After six years with the Jennifers, Alessio split amicably in late 2006 and reinvented himself as Mamuthones. On this first disc, the songs layer cosmic and synthetic sounds and go on tracing according to the principle harmony in the music, their acoustic space feeling very expansive. The voices creep crosswise into sounds and effects to lunar spheres and solar places. The five remixes and interpretations of ANTLERS MULM, BAD SECTOR, FIRST LAW and LOVESPELL on the second disc support the complex character of the whole release and expand the into a new style of Ambient songs. More 'song' based than Inade, Fjernlys reminds of fellow Loki act Predominance. Presented in a double jewel case with a very nice slipcase to finish.
Flatlands (with 2 tracks) are seriously heavy in a stripped-down Isis style, with monolithic, catchy riffs crashing into each other and plenty of screaming. Sunshine Republic (with 1 long track) are on a more experimental tip, reminiscent of House Of Low Culture, though there are elements of doom, post-rock and noise in the mix too. The LP is limited to 330 copies and is presented on heavy grey vinyl and comes with acetate inserts. Offensive and difficult in equal measure.

One of quite a few albums from this prolific Russian band, whose compelling funeral doom edges close to dark ambient and black metal at times. Francisco López (Spain) and Richard Francis (New Zealand) have created "in de blaauwe hand" upon invitation from Extrapool for a brief working residency in Nijmegen, to develop a collaboration piece for the Brombron CD series. Working with very small seed source sound samples that were exchanged between them, two intermingling compositional paths unfolded in two parallel small studios. In a short (but very intense) period of time a whole world of very delicate and subtle materials arose. The hour-long track merges without mix a dreamy geography of subtleties and complex organicities that is more the result of aesthetic affinities than pre-structured plan. In that sense, this is a composition born from the sound themselves, following the paths indicated by them. Presented in a card-slip-sleeve.
FRANCISCO LOPEZ - 'Untitled #119' 3" MCD (Lapilli)
This mini-CD by Francisco López is the first on London-based label Lapilli. Untitled #119 is a hellish industrial roar, saturated in overtones, that conceals within it fluctuating elements that change in character as the volume increases. There are intimations of ‘purer’ sounds within the noise and deep bells, throbbing organ tones, two-interval melodies that never quite reveal themselves, and perhaps aren’t actually there at all. The effect is disquieting, but also curiously appealing. Over 17 minutes of music packaged in stylish black jewel case.

FRANS DE WAARD - 'Vijf Profielen' CD (Alluvial Recordings)
In November 2005, Frans de Waard (Beequeen) spent a week recording and composing on location in the small Dutch town of Vlissingen. A Marine shipyard is located in the centre of the town, but has closed due to regeneration of the area. As part of an exhibition '[Mijn] Domein', Frans De Waard was asked to reflect on this transition. He recorded the remaining activities in the building, where so called 'profiles' are made for use in shipbuilding. In this musical piece things move from hectic and busy (in the first profile) to emptiness (in the fifth profile), although it's one piece. Using mainly recordings made on site of elevators, metal cutting and room ambience, this piece is a strong work of field recordings with minor electronic processing.

Alone in the Dark Wood is the fifth full-length release from West Philly-based solo artist TAra Burke aka Fursaxa who boasts a fan base with the likes of Bardo Pond, Acid Mothers Temple and Thurston Moore who released a record by her on his Ecstatic Peace! imprint. A previous member of the band UN, Burke is now one of the epicentres and key collaborators of the North American free-folk movement, along with such luminaries as Jack Rose, Charalambides, Ben Chasny and the Jewelled Antler Collective. With her hypnotic, echo-y churchbell chanting, Burke possesses a power-filled vocal sound that harkens back not only to those other polar queens of disaffected freakout psychedelia Nico and Barbara Manning, but she is also akin to and inspired by Hildegard von Bingen, the 12th-century Benedictine mystical abbess. With the low drone of chord organ and Farfisa, detuned ringing guitar, and endlessly looped, multiply-tracked vocals applied with heaps of delay, Fursaxa sounds like a tripped-out medievalist perched upon a poppy petal. Burke has an alchemical knack for turning folk into lo-fi, and then into sheer psych and back again, but more importantly, her music is pure humming narcosis.
