MZ. 412 - 'Hekatomb' CD (CSR172CD) - £9 |
|
Shipping: 2nd March
Hekatomb is the manifestation of MZ. 412's monumental performance @ Cold Spring's 21st Anniversary at The Garage, London, March 2011. The fortuitous congregation on that curse'd evening bore witness to the band's first EVER complete live line-up: Nordvargr, Drakh, and Ulvtharm. Powerful, pounding Industrial, desolate drones, dense electronics, grim nefarious rituals, reigned over by the malevolent intonations of Nordvargr. This satanic, blackened ritual from the creators of Black Industrial will evolve from memory, to history, and into legend. “Hekatomb” features different versions and interpretations of MZ. 412 material spanning 23 years. Presented in a 6-panel digipak featuring images from the ceremony.

TUNNELS OF AH - 'Thus Avici' CD (CSR206CD) - £8 |
|
Shipping: 2nd March
“Firstly, the punishment is meted out day and night, kalpa after kalpa, without a moment's interruption or relief. Thus Avici”. ‘Thus Avici' is the second album from Tunnels Of Ah (Stephen Ah Burroughs / Head Of David ). The title references ‘the sutra of bodhisattva Ksitigarbha's fundamental vows', a section of which Burroughs reads daily in homage to Ksitigarbha whom Burroughs pledged ‘entreaty and supplication' under solemn tantric oath 20 years ago. Tantric buddhism, christian mysticism and personal magick make up the subject matter for ‘Thus Avici'. Where traces of 2013's ‘Lost Corridors' album can be heard, ‘Thus Avici' is a harder, more focused offering. Shards of distorted noise, ritual drums, caustic drones and haunted vocals make ‘Thus Avici' a dark hallucinatory swoon into the hinterland of the Tunnels Of Ah. The dull blue light of brute-world calls.

SOL - 'Where Suns Come To Die' CD (CSR186CD) - £8 |
|
Shipping: 2nd March
Where Suns Come To Die is an exploration of growing older; the disappointment that follows and the omnipresent dissociation from the world and life as such. In a mixture of sampled classical songs from the beginning of the last century and recorded instruments such as reed organ, horns and strings the music reflects on a nostalgia and a feeling of disconnection to the modern world. Holding on to what last shreds of beauty still lingers Where suns come to die is a reminder that life is with end and we all must offer ourselves to the soil. Where Suns Come To Die consists of four tracks featuring Thomas Bøjden of Die Weisse Rose on vocals.

TREPANERINGSRITUALEN - 'Veil The World' CD (CSR205CD) - £10 |
|
Shipping: Now
"All seals have been broken" proclaims a demonic voice on the titular track of Veil The World, and that is something terrifyingly evident in the music contained therein. On Veil The World, T x R x P veers from crepuscular ritual moods to rabid death chants reveling, even celebrating the imminent end of flesh. Veil the World - originally released in a very limited and ultra-lavish box by Kosci Tapes in 2011 (Ltd 40) - marks the half-way point between the earlier, more atmospheric works of T × R × P, and the more visceral aggression of the later material. Remastered and presented in a 6 panel digipak, T x R x P once again assert themselves as the true masters of Swedish Ritual Industrial. Ltd x 1000 copies only.

A.T.R.O.X. - 'The Night's Remains' LP (Oltrelanebbiailmare / Silentes / Spittle Records) - £13 |
|
Definitely ahead of their time, A.T.R.O.X. were one of the first bands to move beyond typical new wave styles and introduce strong electronic elements - not too far from works of their contemporaries Tuxedomoon and Minimal Compact. "The Night's Remains" was originally released in 1982 on the Italian label Trinciato Forte Records, and is now back in print on LP for the first time since then. "...full of sinister synthesisers, unfaltering yet weirdly human drum machines and the spookiest production since sliced bread. Think Kraftwerk and John Carpenter on a come down in Italy".

Definitely ahead of their time, A.T.R.O.X. were one of the first bands to move beyond typical new wave styles and introduce strong electronic elements - not too far from works of their contemporaries Tuxedomoon, Minimal Compact, or Pink Industry. ASMUS TIETCHENS - 'Humoresken Und Vektoren' CD
(Auf Abwegen) - £11 |
|
16 pieces of all-new music. "Humoresken und Vekotren" takes up a work that was started upon the invitation of Francisco Lopez for the Spanish Störung label. The task was to deliver 13 x 2-minute original compositions for a compilation. “Humoresken und Vektoren” recycles these miniatures from 2010 and unfolds it into 8 new works having no resemblance with the original sourcings whatsoever. These 8 tracks are bound together by 8 short pieces entitled “Tristia” that function as bridges between the longer pieces. “Humoresken und Vektoren” is a combination of very dynamic and detailed sounds and a range of delicate layers and abstract textures. Ltd x 500 copies in a digipak.

AURA SHINING GREEN - 'East Of Sun & West Of The Moon' 2 x CD
(Anima Arctica) - £15 |
|
The massive retrospective compilation DCD of Joonatan Elokuu's wandering psychedelic folk group Aura Shining Green sees the light of day and the bright moonlit night. The first part "East of the Sun" carries the soft fragrance of flowers and the sunlit forests, reminding us perhaps of the works of B'ee (In Gowan Ring & Birch Book), Nick Drake and even early tunes Leonard Cohen. The second part "West of the Moon" takes us through the mysterious moonlit nights filled with wonder & magic. Bearing the ever present strong psychedelic folk aura and possibly some hints the artists mentioned earlier, these stories are murkier and full of feeling and intimacy. One might even hear some reminiscences of works of Timothy Renner (Stone Breath, Crown Tongue) or even Coil or Tangerine Dream in more ambient parts and synth works. The beauty and depth of detail of his magnum opus is underlined by masterful guitarwork and his utterly soft and tender vocals. Ltd x 500 copies in a 6-panel digipak.

AURAL RAGE - 'A Nature Of Nonsense' LP (Hallow Ground) - £18 |
|
Aural Rage is the work of Danny Hyde - producer and remixer of Coil, Nine Inch Nails, Psychic TV, Depeche Mode and many others. The project features following guest musicians: Jhonn Balance and Peter Christopherson aka Coil, and Joanna de Seyne. Danny Hyde contributed many unique sounds to Coil’s legacy and produced their legendary albums Horse Rotovator and Love’s Secret Domain. On "A Nature Of Nonsense", synthetic strings, programmed rhythms, shuddering mdma-filtered beats, acid gurgles and insect buzzes are all over the album. Industrial tinged electronica with a touch of darkness. Originally self-released as CD in 2005, now remastered for vinyl. Ltd x 250 copies.

DDAA - 'Hazy World' CD
(Nefryt) - £10.50 |
|
They get older, but not less unique. Lovely new studio album by French "true avant-garde" band DDAA (Deficit Des Annees Anterieurs), confusing listeners since 1977. On "Hazy World" they sound maybe more restrained and elaborate, but still reveal weird beauty in these 6 obscure (a)tonal songs and noises. 51+ minutes of soundpieces, with guest vocals from Christian Coënon (France Culture Radio). Ltd x 444 copies in a gatefold A5 sleeve.

EMME YA - 'Ophidian Fetish Mandala' CD
(Noctivagant) - £10.50 |
|
Emme Ya's brand new studio album consists of 5 tracks, totalling over 45 minutes. It is accompanied by 5 sigil cards, one representing each track. Emme Ya goes beyond the formal composition of music. It is through a deep process of spiritual transcendence, ritual and meditation that the music is created. "Ophidian Fetish Mandala" is a work that reflects a great dedication to that process leading the music to the forefront of the darker genres of music. These works of Emme Ya are once again extremely deep and captivating to the listener. Ltd x 493 copies in an outsized sleeve with 5 postcards.

"Best of" compilation from the master of acoustic junk metal abuse, also known for his work as Pollutive Static. A relentless metal storm avalanche bulldozer filled with endless details and textures. The CD collects HH's tracks from "Taste Of Iron" tape (Freak Animal), V/A "Stein" LP (Verlautbarung), and his split tape with Mania (Der Bunker Records). MØHR / MAEROR TRI - 'Hafenstadt' CD
(Auf Abwegen) - £11 |
|
This music was originally planned to form a part of the third tape box in the MØHR interpretation series of ZNS TAPES. For this release the basic material of MØHR was placed on side A and the interpretation on side B, enabling the listener to compare the basic and the final sound. Three tapes were compiled as one tape box linked by a loose theme. The third one, which was to contain Hafenstadt by Maeror Tri (as well as material of PBK and The Haters), has never been released due to the sudden end of ZNS TAPES. We’re convinced that this combination of basic stuff plus musical reworking is still an interesting and exciting experience for the audience, maybe especially after more than 20 years in the archives. Ltd x 500 copies in a digipak.

MONARCH / GREY DATURAS - 'Dawn Of The Catalyst' LP
(Throne Records) - £12 |
|
Two respected underground heavyweights pair up on "Dawn Of The Catalyst". Australia’s Grey Daturas have built a solid following over the last few years through constant touring worldwide with artists like Neurosis, Wolf Eyes and Yellow Swans (having also released splits with the latter two). Their combination of Sonic Youth style guitar-improv freakouts with more detuned doomed ambience and all out noise has attracted fans from all dank corners of underground music. France’s female-fronted Monarch is that country's entry into the slo-mo nihilistic utterly oppressive doom genre where they’ve distinguished themselves from their peers in both sound and aesthetics. On "Dawn Of The Catalyst" each band contributes one extended track, both veering to the more experimental, droning, lurching side of their collective personas. A split to be felt more than simply heard, it requires full volume and full bass frequencies for maximum effect. Ltd x 800 copies on black vinyl.

His live performances, both solo and with his band, are highly acclaimed, and much sought after on the European circuit. "Western Songs" marks the very first time Nathan is releasing music under his own name. This record features two side-long late night instrumental guitar jams evoking the vast arid landscape surrounding his home state of Colorado. Recommended if you like: deserts, drone, experimental, minimalist, mountains, slowcore. Ltd x 200 copies on black vinyl.

OBSCENE NOISE KORPORATION - 'Primitive Terror Action / The Rape Of The Blue Planet' 2 x CD
(Malignant Records) - £15 |
|
If Negru Voda is the bastard step child of Megaptera, then O.N.K. is the brutish, backwoods cousin with an insatiable thirst for schadenfreude. Pure industrial sounds and cold mechanized rhythms from the blackened heart of the legendary Peter Nystrom, this sprawling 2CD collects every recording ever done under the O.N.K. moniker. Disc 1: Primitive Action LP, comp tracks, demo tracks and otherwise unreleased material). Disc 2 are all new recordings from 2013-2014. Expect the rawest and most primitive of factory sounds and analogue terror - saturated frequencies and pulsating chunks of distortion drenched monstrosities. Guest vocals (and layout) from J. Stillings of Steel Hook Prostheses. 8-panel digipak.

SETH NEHIL - 'Bounds' LP
(Auf Abwegen) - £14 |
|
Bounds is a new, more synthetic direction for Seth Nehil. Originally composed for a festival of music in complete darkness, these pieces treat recorded sound as infinitely malleable and transformable. Starting with acoustic percussive sources (drums, gongs, cymbals, vibraphones, etc.), recordings were warped beyond recognition, exploring the juncture between rhythm and pitch. Sonic impulses were subjected to micro-editing techniques to produce new, alien forms which were then fragmented into grains, pulses and tones or built up into rhythms, loops and cycles. Convolution reverb was used extensively to colour timbres and place sounds into unusual spaces. These eleven short tracks are full of expanses, interruptions and repetitions. These are dynamic compositions that sound like nothing else. Ltd x 300 copies with insert. Artwork by Harrison Higgs.

Shinkiro (aka Manabu Hiramoto, also known as Kotodama), has released previous works on labels such as Ant-Zen and Athanor. "Cycle Of Rebirth" is a conceptual album inspired by the desire realm in the philosophy of Buddhism. The 5 cycles are based on dark ambient soundscapes, blended with hypnotic rhythms, with an industrial edge and haunting melodies. The elaborately composed pieces create a magical and mystic world through amazing atmospheres. Comes in a gatefold digisleeve.

SICK SEED - 'Technological Singularity' MCD (Untergeschoss / Filth And Violence) - £8 |
|
Industrial music that looks both to past and future. MCD of 20 minutes / three new original tracks and a cover version (or rather maybe adaptation) of a 70s prog classic. The first track is is unexpected - simple bass line and rhythmic pulsation, with spoken word, almost reminiscent of Sleep Chamber. The 3 other tracks deliver the more classic Sick Seed sound; primitive electronics, loops, junk metal, bass dirge, spoken vocals. Sick Seed is Pekka PT (Gelsomina, Peenemünde).

SIGTRYGGUR BERG SIGMARSSON - 'So Long' CD
(Helen Scarsdale Agency) - £14 |
|
A journey through time, perhaps, for a daydreamer floating in a small boat amidst the radiant hues of a midnight sun. That daydreamer in this instance is the Icelandic artist Sigtryggur Berg Sigmarsson, best known for his electro-surrealism in Stilluppsteypa. "So Long" aligns itself firmly within the aesthetic of crypto-minimalism, which began to germinate some 20 years ago. Sigmarsson would find himself in his own studio, crafting sympathetic works to Stilluppsteypa; but these were directed inward as wounded, naked, and vulnerable concoctions reflective of Sigmarsson getting lost in his own little world. "So Long" quietly simmered in his head over the years; and with the completion of this album, we now have a sublime gesture of polar impressionism flecked with hallucinatory ambience, Vaseline-smeared crackle, and hauntological displacement. A dronescaping threnody in its full radiance and blur.

THE HATERS / HAL HUTCHINSON - 'Xylowave 2010 / Amplifaction II' LP
(Auf Abwegen) - £14 |
|
First meeting of this noisy deuce! The Haters are a noise and conceptual art troupe from the US, headed by GX Jupitter-Larsen. Founded in 1979, they are one of the earliest and best-known acts in the modern noise scene. Hal Hutchinson (Pollutive Static) has previously released several of his scrap metal sound recordings on labels such as Freak Animal Records, Unrest Productions, and in the last couple of years, he has moved to incorporate analogue synthesizers, field recordings and other elements into his work. Here, Hal presents a recording made entirely of scrap metal and concrete wreckage, with a primitive sounding end result. These recordings were originally issued as a limited edition cassette on Der Bünker Records (2010). Ltd x 300 copies on blue vinyl.

THEODOR BASTARD - 'Music For The Empty Spaces' CD
(FullDozer) - £10.50 |
|
A new CD by the outstanding Russian ethno-electronics band Theodor Bastard. “Music For The Empty Spaces” unites compositions written for documentaries by Brazilian filmmaker Gustavo Santos; for “Secrets Of Ourselves” - a film by Viktor Fokeev and for a fashion show by the avant-garde Japanese designer Yushi Kuroda. Other tracks can be characterized as “unissued soundtracks to movies that never existed”. The music balances between ethno-electronics, ambient and dub; it shows some of the more experimental edges of contemporary Theodor Bastard’s art. The Collector’s edition of the album includes 3 extra tracks that have never been issued before. The 12-page booklet that is also included in this release features a fairy tale that Fedor Svolotch wrote for this specific edition. Ltd x 500 copies in a digipak with deluxe slipcase, using conceptual works by French artist Nathalie Nowak.

THEOLOGIAN - 'Pain Of The Saints' 2 x CD
(Malignant Records) - £16 |
|
Theologian's "Pain Of The Saints" lays forth a dizzying 2 ½ + hours of music. Once again, Bartow (ex-Navicon Torture Technologies) has sculpted an impeccable and highly detailed excursion into tortured yet brilliant realms, where contrails of burning frequencies and blackened atmospheres intersect with densely concentrated rhythmic pulsations, ethereal, blissed-out shimmer, and the majestic monoliths of smouldering, post-apocalyptic desolation. This album represents Bartow's rallying cry against Christianity and specifically Catholicism: an "Anti-Theist manifesto" and a sonic diatribe exposing hypocrisy within the church. Includes contributions from David Castillo (Primitive Weapons), Joan Hacker (Factoria), Christiana Key (Delphic Oracle), Matthew Melnick (Darkside NYC), Eric Morgan (A Pale Horse Named Death), Jessica Way (Worm Ouboros / Barren Harvest) and more. Luxurious 8-panel DVD digipak with stunning artwork.

ANEMONE TUBE - 'Existence' CD
(Auf Abwegen) - £10.50
This CD contains material recorded between 1996-1999 and it represents the more harsh side of Anemone Tube. Of the six tracks, more than half are probably the noisiest material ever heard from this band, but instead of plain harsh 'noise, they often bear clear structures and occasionally even rhythms that keep them from becoming too static. Layers of distorted electronics and dense, detailed and diverse sounds are combined with extreme flushes or white noise and some low frequency electronics, with slowly evolving layers of massive sound. Ltd x 500 copies. |

ASMUS TIETCHENS - 'Stupor Mundi' CD
(Auf Abwegen / Die Stadt) - £11
14th part in the ongoing re-release series of all early Asmus Tietchens vinyl albums between 1980-1991. 'Stupor Mundi' (discos esplendor geometrico egd 018) was originally released in 1990. Heavily steeped in rhythmic loops and metallic reverb, this album clearly shows the mark of his industrial period, but also of the abstract direction to come. This re-release comes with another poster booklet and features 4 bonus tracks of unreleased material from the same period. Ltd x 600 copies. |

BAD SECTOR & ASTRO - 'Idioblast' CD (Power & Steel / Loki Foundation) - £11
In 2005, Russian label, Insofar Vapour Bulk asked Massimo Magrini to work on a recording made by Hiroshi Hasegawa (Astro, CCCC, South Saturn Delta) - a "drone-like" sound lasting a few minutes. Despite the difficult nature of the assignment, Massimo loved the very static and cryptic structure of the original. So, starting from this basic recording (without using additional sounds) he developed a 45 minutes long suite: it was like using a magic audio lens which revealed a myriad of hidden details in a microscopic world. The original Astro sound can still be heard at the beginning and at the end of the suite. Presented in a beautiful cardboard package with silver-foil print. |

BRANDKOMMANDO - 'Three Strikes And You Are Out' CD (Sickcore) - £8
This work by the restless Polish musician deals with European capitals burning in fires. "City anarchy, street wars, violence and terror. The musician most likely stands at the same side of the barricade with rebelling society, in front of which like soldiers of the Evil Empire stand up legions of dogs of system". Crushing analogue outrage of sonic violence, raging vocals, cultural and street terrorism. This release can be compared to such sonic hooligans as Grey Wolves, Barrikad, Survival Unit, etc.
Ltd x 300 hand-numbered copies in an outsize 6-panel sleeve. Russian import.

G*PARK - 'Sub' 2 x CD (23five) - £13
The most enigmatic of the Schimpfluch-Gruppe, Marc Zeier is the man behind G*Park. "Sub" is a sprawling masterpiece of modern day musique concrete, reflecting the early pioneers' use of razor cut tape with a grandiose revelation of an existential horror. Zeier describes this album as the manifestation of amorphous conditions that lead to (or interfere with) representational forms or states of being. For every malignant drone and turgid thrumming, Zeier punctures his fluttering, frozen methane surfaces with jagged incisions, pneumatic hammerings, and decompressed gasps. This fragmented punctuation is a signature to the G*Park aesthetic, used highly effectively in mapping his clinical situations turned septic. Ltd x 500 copies with slipcase. |

GUILTY CONNECTOR / NYCTALOPS - 'Audible Plague Menace' CD (Sickcore) - £8
"Audible Plague Menace" is an ultra violent harsh noise attack from Guilty Connector (Japan) and Nyctalops (Russia). Nauseating, punishing noise walls from GxCx, giving Merzbow a run for his money. A tad more restrained, brooding noise / drone / power electronics from Nyctalops, with mangled vocals, but no less menacing. Just under an hour of insane electronics, drone and feedback, with 5 tracks apiece. Ltd x 300 copies. |

KK NULL / JOHN WIESE - 'Mondo Paradoxa' CD
(Auf Abwegen) - £10.50
Constructed over the period of two years via mail collaboration, thiss is a great and forceful collaboration between two artists that each have made a name for themselves with their unique approach to making sound. KK Null is a master of feedback studies, working with looped scenarios to create dense and vital sound units. He is also the leading force behind proto-metal group Zeni Geva and the dark industrial project Absolut Null Punkt. John Wiese creates fragile but very erruptive lo-fi noise rumblings with an almost poetic touch. He has a musical past in the group Bastard Noise. Needless to say both artists combine the best of both worlds in this crunching release! Comes in a beautiful full cover digipak, designed by Government Alpha, with typesetting by John Wiese. |
|
NORTHAUNT & SVARTSINN - 'The Borrowed World' CD (Loki Foundation) - £11
Inspired by Cormac McCarthy´s novel, "The Road", the two Norwegian masterminds Haerleif Langas and Jan Roger Petterson joined forces to create this stunning split album of new recordings. "The Borrowed World" is the soundtrack for a world in decay, directed by the emotive and grandly melancholic signature of both projects. This is isolationist ambient music that unfolds its meditative atmosphere with majestic and melodic waves of droning sounds, environmental field recordings from the icy landscapes of the deepest North and magnificent cello recordings of Amund Ulvestad. The ashes of the late world carried on the bleak and temporal winds to and fro in the void. Carried forth and scattered and carried forth again. Everything uncoupled from it’s shoring. Unsupported in the ashen air. Sustained by a breath, trembling and brief. If only my heart were stone. 6-panel digipak. |

VARIOUS ARTISTS - 'Outside The Great Circle, Where Purgatory Ends' LP & DVD
(Edition Gris) - £18
"Outside The Great Circle, Where Purgatory Ends" is a spectacular multimedia approach on both spiritual and artistic levels. The film itself is from Romanian artist Costin Chioreanu. The project features musicians David Tibet (Current 93), Attila Csihar (Sunn O))), Mayhem) alongside others. Merging music, illustration and film, this movie invites the viewer to ignore traditional structures and genre restrictions and submit to the experience of the moment completely. A work of visual art of this magnitude required equally massive music. For the soundtrack, which was composed by Chioreanu on guitar, he enlisted the help of some formidable musicians: Attila Csihar and David Tibet on vocals, Mirai Kawashima (Sigh) on keyboards and synths, and Kimmo Helen (Hexvessel) on violin and effects. Side B of the LP features the original soundtrack of Chioreanu's first exhibition "Where Purgatory Ends". The music was composed by Chioreanu together with Rune "Blasphemer" Erikson (Aura Noir, ex-Mayhem). The package contains: the original soundtrack of "Outside The Great Circle" and the soundtrack of Chioreanu’s exhibition "Where Purgatory Ends" on LP, DVD with the animation movie "Outside The Great Circle", as well as a beautifully designed artwork by Costin Chioreanu himself, including insert. ESSENTIAL! |
