With a cinematically dreary dreamscape of doom-inspired darkness, Aelter has fully embraced a shadow-cast landscape of gothic Western folk music and hypnotic darkwave country. Aelter is Blake Green (Wolvserpent, Pussygut). "Aelter continue their curious and darkly glorious odyssey with an album brimming with desert drones, ghost-town Morricone, gothic tumbleweeds, blackened Badalamenti, sepulchral lounge music, campfire ballads from the grave, galactic shimmers, ominous swamp waltz and what feels like the black lodge version of John Lurie". ALLERSEELEN - 'Chairete Daimones' CD (Aorta) - £12.50

The brand new album by Allerseelen is another catchy and driving chapter in the discography of this adventurous and ambitious project. "Chairete Daimones" is Ancient Greek for Be Greeted, Demons. These daimons or demons are not 'evil spirits' but benevolent and closer to guardian angels. Chairete Daimones were also the words in an ancient Greek ritual in which wine was spilled into the air, on the earth or also on tombs as a libation, an offer for these demons. This ritual was again celebrated in autumn 1871 when Friedrich Nietzsche with some fellow poets and philosophers drank dark wine late at night. ALLERSEELEN - 'Dunkelgraue Lieder' CD (Aorta) - £12.50

"Dunkelgraue Lieder" is a deeply reworked version of the 1996 Allerseelen album "Sturmlieder". Now, 21 years later, Gerhard Hallstatt has returned to his classic masterpiece and offer a new look on this great work. Digitally remastered, this album also features 7 tracks which didn't appear on the 1996 release. The original tracks with their "sturm und drang" attitude have been placed in the middle of the new album wrapped in the new ones which are more philosophical, melancholic and permeated with sad beauty. Sonically they are also more into krautpop / neofolk sounding of today's Allerseelen making a contrast to harsh and abrasive tunes from mid 90's. As a result we have a very interesting reminiscence of the past with a kind of a comment from the present, some wise and soft look back on one's young spiritual Nietzschean extremities. ALTERNATIVE TV - 'Primitive Emotions' CD (Winter Hill Recordings / Fourth Dimension) - £12

A collection of single, EP and compilation tracks released by ATV 2016-2019. Includes 'This Little Girl', 'Negative Primitive', 'The System', and 'Like A Tomb' (with Vic Godard on guitar), amongst others. 'Chinese Burn' is a different version to the one which appears on the "Low Expectations" 10" on Fourth Dimension. This is a neat way of listening to these tracks as they map out an arc in the group's more recent development. As Mark Perry himself said, this release actually sounds more like an album in its own right. Another great entry in the band's illustrious career. "This LP is intoxicating and at times suffocating brilliance. Few write any better about the less attractive traits of the human condition and the world we all help perpetuate than Mark Perry. ALTERNATIVE TV - 'Scars On Sunday' CD (Winter Hill Recordings / Fourth Dimension) - £12

Remastered reissue of this rare live album originally released on cassette in 1979. Starts of with their notoriously messy gig recorded live at Greenwich Theatre in spring 1979, plus the very first Good Missionaries concert at the Lyceum Ballroom May 1979. The other two tracks are largely improvised and were recorded on the 'Pop Group' tour in summer 1979. "A classic of the early UK tape scene... This is most definitely lo-fi and not easy listening - a positive boon for ATV heads and anyone deep into DIY / Independent / Tape Scene stuff... a true artistic statement from the heart of the struggle... By moving bravely into areas that Pop/Rock simply wasn't allowed to probe it is very refreshing, as you can hear barriers being broken, the difference between performer and fan cut down to a mere whisker." BRIGHTER DEATH NOW - 'Breaking Down Nihil' 2 x LP (:retortae:) - £33

The long overdue vinyl version of the recording from the legendary Brighter Death Now Russian mini-tour in September 2009 (initially released by Der Angriff / Indiestate as 2CD in 2011). Karmanik was joined by Russian artists for the tour: Anthesteria and LamiaVox in Moscow, and Bardoseneticube and 414 in St. Petersburg. Both shows were recorded on multi-channel devices, then carefully mixed and mastered, so the final quality is close to the studio one without losing any bit of the raw energy of live performance. The result is a very fresh and unexpected look on the well-known BDN compositions. This double vinyl set comes in a plain black cover with metal plate attached. Inside there are two black vinyl in black polylined generic inner sleeves and full-sized insert. Strictly limited to 100 copies.

COH - 'COH DOMA' CD (:retortae:) - £15

The brand new album from Ivan Pavlov aka CoH is a recording session in memory of his old friend Mika Vainio (Pan Sonic). The concert based upon this material took place place at DOM in Moscow in 2017. Unfortunately, the original live recording was lost due to a hard disk crash. The material presented here is a live-in-a-studio version of the show, carefully engineered and mastered for the CD release. Musically it is deep electronic ambient with some throbbing rhythm pulsations and occasional glitches. Active since the late 90's, CoH has numerous releases on labels such as Eskaton, Raster-Noton, and Editions Mego. Ivan was also part of a post-utopian act Soisong with Peter Christopherson (Throbbing Gristle / Coil). The CD comes packed in a special octagonal-shaped thick black silkscreened carton package with a die-cut window. Strictly limited to 200 copies only.

CONTRASTATE - 'An Exercise In Defascination' 7" (Black Rose Recordings) - £7.50

This EP features alternative mixes from Contrastate's ongoing studio recordings for their next album. The concept is inspired by the Italian giallo films of 1970s. "Why are Flavia’s hands and feet missing? What is she doing in the Nessuno Aslyum? And how did she know about the death of Judge Carnevale? Inspector Qualcuno fights his way through the elite of society and the cabal of capitalism to the corrupt underbelly of a decadent and decaying nation. Until finally confronting a closed-shop cartel hell bent on anti-democratic sabotage for its own personal gain". Dark ritual ambience of the electronic avant-garde shot through with a vein of experimental noise and stentorian vocals that are strewn amongst touches of industrial surrealism and sonic soundtracks. CREATION VI & UGASANIE - 'Birds Of Naukan' CD (Zhelezobeton) - £11.50

Reissue of a work first published in 2015 in a small edition of 80 copies. This is a collaboration album recorded by the projects Creation VI and Ugasanie and dedicated to several sacred places of Chukotka, such as the Whale Bone Alley on Yttigran island and a collection of ancient rock engravings on the Pegtymel river. The album was inspired by the documentary "Chukotka: The Coast of Memory" directed by Andris Slapins, and poems of the Yupik poetess Zoya Nenlyumkina, who was born in the now deserted village of Naukan, which at that time was the easternmost settlement of Eurasia. Petroglyphs carved on stones along rivers, bird colonies and herds of walruses, whale skulls dug in the coast hundreds of years ago - many images were captured in the sounds of this album. Mouth harps and ocarins, throat singing, field recordings and transparent iridescence of cold creeping ambient, saturated with echoes of shamanistic rituals, cries of bird flocks and songs that the ocean sings to heavens, while playing on coastal pebbles. Ltd x 300 copies in a 6-panel digipak.

DARKWOOD - 'Herbstgewölk' LP (Fronte Nordico) - £22

Deluxe vinyl reissue of Darkwood's 2004 album, originally released on CD by Heidenvolk. This album gathers 10 of the darkest and most threatening tracks... on the final hope and the final curse, on 'miracle' weapons and a race that could only be lost. Not a straightforward Neofolk release like previous albums, the music here is a fusion of acoustic instruments, haunting soundscapes, stirring vocals, and historical samples. "The clouds of autumn were drawing near and the world shivered in the storms of the sun". OLE PETTER SØRUM - 'Morgenrøde (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)' CD (Avantgarde Music) - £11

This is the soundtrack to the Norwegian post-apocalyptic movie "Morgenrøde". Musicwise, the isolationist / apocalyptic dark ambient soundtrack was composed and recorded by Ole Petter Sørum. Minimalist and extremely cold in the choice of sounds, this is not even imaginable as the perfect sound of a nightmare, but what comes after that. "Morgenrøde" ("Dawn") is a Norwegian post-apocalyptic film which takes place at the beginning of a new aeon, in a water polluted world years after a global fall. Surrounded by an endless hazy and drab, bleak desert we follow two survivors who eye each other with the same mutual depraved suspicion as they contemplate their inhospitable surroundings. PROFETUS - 'The Sadness Of Time Passing' CD (Avantgarde Music) - £12

Profetus hail from Finland, the cradle of funeral doom metal. "The Sadness Of Time Passing" is their third full-length studio album and took five long years to create. It deals with the concept about time and mortality; a collection of bleak compositions to raise the awareness that everything is transient, all is impermanent. To express such an idea, it can be linked to the Japanese concept "mono no aware", sealed by its cover art. The painting by talented contemporary Japanese painter Yuka Yoshihara,was made using 19th century colours and old Japanese painting techniques to resemble a Finnish romantic, XVII century painting. Recorded during amperiod of great personal loss, Profetus locked the door of their own studio, a wooden lodge in the middle of the Finnish woods, and created the album during one week. The studio, said to be haunted by the spirits of the woods, gave a natural sound to the recordings. Digipak with 12-page booklet.

"In Sadness, Silence And Solitude", first released in 1997, was the fourth full length album of Raison D'être and remains an astonishing dark ambient industrial masterpiece. Mammoth stone walls stretching high into the unknown, dank cellars strewn with bones and ashes. A chill in the lonely night wind disturbed by the utterance of arcane phrases. This defines the term hauntingly beautiful. RAISON D'ETRE - 'The Empty Hollow Unfolds (Expanded Edition)' CD (:retortae:) - £12.50

The ambience of grim desolation: with "The Empty Hollow Unfolds", originally released in 2000 on Cold Meat Industry, the ubiquitous Peter Andersson continues his exploration of internal desolation, be it of a spiritual base or purely of self. "The Empty Hollow" in question seems to be the soul; a soul that has unfolded into a vast, blasted industrial landscape, littered with warehouse debris that solemnly clatters like wind chimes born of refuge. Bones clang over chain-link fences, metal creaks unsteadily. Bleak is an understatement, as the vast scope of emotions presented here is a sonic lament that lashes the soul. "The Empty Hollow Unfolds" is a grim travelogue from the land where the sun never rises; grievous keyboard passages overlaid by factory noises and the trademark chanting monks turns this into some of the most unsettling listening since the days of Lustmord's "Paradise Disowned". The double CD version of Ramleh's fantastic new album, first issued as a double LP by Egyptian label Nashazphone in 2019. Taking in all from art rock-saturated post-punk to the kind of blistering and tormented psychedelic noise the group has long forged a reputation for, "The Great Unlearning" proves itself to be the boldest and most definitive statement by the group thus far. REUTOFF FEAT. DEUTSCH NEPAL - 'Eating The Dust' LP (:retortae:) - £26

A new collaboration work of two legendary industrial acts - Reutoff, one of the oldest internationally acclaimed Russian projects, and Swedish heavyweight Deutsch Nepal. This album took around a decade to finish and the result is more than perfect. Lina's voice added to the distorted rhythmic atterns dwelling in dark ambient structures. Reutoff bring us the atmosphere of loss, dystopia and despair with some yearning for escape. Not pure industrial noise, in parts it's actually very musical and melodic. This vinyl edition contains two tracks unavailable on CD. Ltd x 100 copies on white vinyl in a matt-laminated sleeve.

SAOR - 'Forgotten Paths' CD (Avantgarde Music) - £12

The fourth album from Scottish atmospheric black metal / folk outfit SAOR, with grandiose melodies and lush instrumentation evoking the stark beauty, and cold bleakness of the Highlands. SIVYJ YAR - 'Grief' CD (Avantgarde Music) - £12

A new album by Russian atmospheric Black Metal lone-star Sivyj Yar. Another grievous and melancholic passage to the rural past of Russia, the poor people, the invisible ones. Sivyj Yar's 6th album has every line sung and written in Russian, but a western translation is also provided. Conceptually it continues from where the previous EP "The Unmourned Past" left off, dealing with "...the grief and aspirations of the Russian peasantry, their endless and sacred tragedy... I consider Russian peasantry to be the main and natural carrier of the old culture, which absorbed the spirit of true (non artificial) paganism". The band further develops their personal approach to blackgaze and post-black metal, with songs lasting more than 10 minutes each and built upon dreamy guitars, longing and melancholic melodies, as well as penetrating shrieks, all combined together to achieve the most organic result.

TROUM - 'Ryna' 2 x LP (:retortae:) - £29

This is a remastered vinyl version of Troum's long sold out first album from 1998, after the end of Maeror Tri, making this the darkest and most industrial album of the project. The general feel of the sounds here is reminiscent of the earth moving, tectonic plates in constant shuffle, the tracks building and then either shifting or worn away via attrition. Its as if Maeror Tri learned to fly through ingenuity, smoke and mirrors, while Troum has taken the ingenuity, smoke and mirrors and, somehow, grown wings. In addition to the original album unreleased / rare three bonus tracks have been added, all recorded 1997-98. Mastered by Sergey Uak-Kib (Kshatriy). Artwork by Oleg Musin. MAEROR TRI - 'Language Of Flames And Sound' CD (Old Europa Cafe) - £11

2nd Edition of this album, originally issued by OEC in 1996. Power for the right side of the brain! Our world is dominated by the left brain hemisphere. M.T. supports the theory that it is necessary to stimulate and challenge the right hemisphere in order to get back to an equal activity of the two sides of the brain. This is some of the best Shamanic Meditation music of the industrial era! Maybe the best and most intense Maeror Tri album? Maeror Tri disbanded in 1996, with 2 members going on to form Troum. NOTUM - 'Nihil Est In Intellectu' CD (Zhelezobeton) - £11

Despite releasing material steadily since 2015, this is the debut full-length album of the Berlin-based project Notum and features a collaborative track with Kryptogen Rundfunk. Although the author himself describes his music as "experimental / free-form", the unwillingness to follow any particular style creates an interesting multiverse in which the listener moves from room to room, sometimes without even noticing how this happens. Noise and shrill frequencies move into relaxing soft piano, totally sinking into a floral drone... jumping into unexpected samples, and rhythms. It all sounds like a psychedelic labyrinth built by a sonic architect with a brisk imagination and a peculiar sense of humour... or a bright morning dream in which scenes are changing in an unpredictable way, completely absorbing the dreamer. The oneiric theme is also emphasized by the incredible artwork created by the Californian artist and musician Matthew Waldron (irr. app. (ext.)). Ltd x 100 copies (pro-CD) in a glossy digisleeve.
