"There I Saw The Grey Wolf Gaping" marks a return to the shorter compostions which comprised Mike Page's (Fire In The Head) first few releases as Sky Burial. These tracks reflect the width and breadth of sounds which inspire Sky Burial’s brand of sonic eclecticism, from kosmische / krautrock, music concrete, and early industrial to shoegaze, ambient/drone, and avant-garde composers. Although inspired by diverse genres, Sky Burial has created a cohesive sound of its own, often citing esoteric and mythological subject matter as a muse.
This album features guest artists Danny Hyde (Coil), Jarboe, Anni Hogan (Marc and The Mambas / Willing Sinners), Jóhann Eiriksson (Gjöll, Reptilicus), Bridget Wishart (Hawkwind), Troum, Xiphoid Dementia, and piper Craig McFarlane. This is the first Sky Burial album to make use of vocals and vocal intonations on several tracks.
