A touchstone release from Merzbow's digital era! Originally released on CD in 2003 (Alien8, JP), "Animal Magnetism" now receives a long-overdue vinyl reissue (with bonus track). This is a work that remains firmly rooted in Merzbow's signature approach - dense layers of distortion, intense feedback, and electronic debris... but it also stands out for its sense of structure and variation, and the fact it's not impenetrable.
A complex of textures, subtle melodic patterns and rhythmic shifts sit beneath the surface of majestic Japanoise. Experimentism and heaviness, speed and inertia, chaos and control - this is not chaos for chaos's sake, but a carefully controlled burn.
The deluxe double LP edition has been meticulously remastered by Lasse Marhaug and includes a previously unreleased bonus track, 'Quiet Comfort #2', which serves as both a continuation and a reflection, extending the album's themes. "Animal Magnetism" is a reminder that noise can be complex, emotional, and even, beautiful.
Ltd x 299 copies, housed in a gatefold sleeve, the reissue replicates the original artwork, including Masami Akita's own photographs.
