DISSECTING TABLE / SEKTOR 304 - 'Utopia / Decay' LP
(Malignant Records) - £16 |
 |
Dissecting Table is one of the most iconic names in the history of industrial music, and has been pushing the envelope in extreme music as far back as 1986. Newer material has moved into a more psychedelic, fully chromatic and glitched out area, but the tracks here bridge the gap between the two eras, mixing a veritable mine field of percussion and metal bashing with spastic electronic mis-wirings and crazed oscillations. The flip side gives us perhaps the most perfect collection of Sektor 304 material to date… pummeling sheets of tribalised junk metal percussion, to desolate decay and pure apocalyptic dystopia, radioactive transmissions, low slung bass, and the infected vocals of guest Martin Bladh (IRM / Skin Area). Ltd x 200 copies, this is a must for all appreciators of the true old school sound.

GERMAN ARMY - 'Jivaro Witnesses' LP
(Burka For Everybody) - £13 |
 |
German Army incorporates the memories of the vintage recordings of Cabaret Voltaire, Dark Day, Hafler Trio, and Kaa Antílope, albeit with a stylised, unique European manner of understanding the genre. The band render a kind of sound that veers from noise in order to synthesize a synaptic symphony, gushy and cold, full of barbed-wire fences and vanishing borders. Their sound, akin to Cabaret Voltaire, does not constitute a mere copy of these, but treats paranoia as a primordial sonic expression, and sound as a virus that spreads across the spoken word setting mechanisms that have remained hidden in the listener. Though not an ambient band, they have shaped the volt anatomy against a sky full of threatingly watching drones. Ltd x 300 copies with insert.

ISOLATOR - 'Culture & Principal Of Anti-Human Exaltation' CD
(Black Plagve /
Malignant Records) - £11 |
 |
There’s dark, and then there’s what Isolator create - an abyssal black hole fashioned from pure negativity and concentrated misanthropy, the sounds unravelling like a time lapse film of slow decay and rot, where cascading, shapeless drones meet charred orchestral swells, disembodied voices, ritual undertones, and crushing, blown out disharmonics, all slathered and smeared into a mass of roiling darkness. This is harrowing and bleak to an endless degree and takes desolation and hopelessness to new levels. Featuring members of Father Befouled / Encoffination and Set, the 5 extended black noise tracks fits comfortably amidst its Black Plague brethren Deathstench, T.O.M.B., and Hypsiphrone. Ltd x 500 copies in an 8-panel digipak.

ROBERT TURMAN - 'Way Down' LP
(Burka For Everybody) - £13 |
 |
Turman´s contribution to the industrial and synth wave underground in the late 1970s and 80s was unique and substantial. He first rose to prominence as part of NON, collaborating with Boyd Rice on the classic 1977 single "Mode of Infection / Knife Ladder", before leaving to pursue his own more expansive solo vision. Turman released a number of cassettes over the course of the 80s, drawing on a wide range of experimental techniques. On "Way Down", first released by Actual Tapes in 1987, he combined the psych noisy industrial drone aesthetic he was best known for with a spry, danceable minimal synth sound, albeit one fleshed out with guitars, pianos, tape loops and samples. Cold, but not too dark, with a reliance on melody not expected from this area of music. Its a great record, murky as hell but also engaging and accessible. Robert Turman is one of the most underrated figures to come out of industrial musics earliest days. "Way Down" is a cold 80's freak-out. Ltd x 400 copies on clear vinyl.

TEETH ENGRAVED WITH THE NAMES OF THE DEAD - 'Starving The Fires (Part I)' CD
(Malignant Records) - £11 |
 |
The formal debut of this Portland, Oregon duo signifies a vital entry into the death industrial field. Using a broad array of hand-made or modified instrumentation and layered processing, Teeth Engraved have crafted one of the more despondent and grime encrusted releases to populate the roster; Frayed, noxious frequencies, crumbling static, and corrosive drones that teeter on the edge of abrasiveness mixed with a rotting underbelly of cluttered, industrial churn, falling somewhere between the smoldering scourge of Gruntsplatter and the dread filled, post-mortem atmospherics of Anenzephalia. The corresponding result is 7 lengthy tracks that thrive on abandonment, hopelessness, and negativity in a desolate, post-apocalyptic environment. Ltd x 500 copies in a DVD case.

THEME - 'No Emotions Catered For' LP
(Idioblast) - £13 |
 |
Theme is Richard Johnson (Splintered, Husk) and Stuart Carter (Splintered, The Fields Of Hay), with a revolving membership. On "No Emotions Catered For", Theme’s fifth album, the improv rock of the collaborative work and the rich atmospherics of before give way to something that, whilst still drawing from these realms, is more disposed to organic electronics, cut-ups, live instruments, loops and, once again, often equally cut-up vocals that play with words as much as concepts and vague ideas. Comprising six cuts that have been worked on for over two years, this album sees Theme devoting themselves to movement and change, or the overt idea of never wishing to stay in one place. Uneasy and restless, yet still remaining hypnotic and charged with a hint of psychedelic terror, it can draw you in to a world that is Theme’s most fully realised yet. Features guests: Zsolt Sores, Hayden Berry, Olga Drenad, Lukasz Kozak, Ian Darlinson. Artwork by Karen Constance (Blood Stereo). Ltd x 250 copies with digital download code.

THEOLOGIAN & STROM.EC - 'Hubrizine' CD
(Malignant Records) - £11 |
 |
Re-issue of a limited edition (x12!!) cassette on Annihilvs, released back in 2012. "Hubrizine" features source material by Finland's mighty Strom.ec, reinterpreted and re-engineered by Theologian, in celebration of a shared appreciation for the works of Philip K. Dick. This probably isn't what you thought it was going to be, given the history of both acts. Sure, there are a good deal of passages of volatility and focused intensity as you might expect, but they are complimented by an equal amount of passages of hallucinatory ambience and cold, serene atmospherics. Celestial drift and horizon filling textures collide with sudden eruptions of militantly hostile vocals, machine clatter, blistering frequency pulsations and writhing distortion. "Hubrizine" takes heavy electronics in a direction where few have dared go, and few will ever match. Gatefold A5 digisleeve.

ADERLATING - 'Gospel Of The Burning Idols' CD (Black Plagve /
Malignant Records) - £11
4th full length disc from this offshoot of Gnaw Their Tongues, finds Mories and Eric Eijspaart exploring further realms of the depraved and sinister; a 7 track descent into a world of wretched decay, nefarious manifestations, and atmospheric decrepitude, where charred frequencies meet slithering, roiling darkness, industrial clutter, demonic vocal incantations, and blurred, abstract layers of nightmarish horror, all periodically propelled forward by an invasion of live, free-form percussion and crashing cymbal resonance. Few artists can deliver a full spectrum of hellish ambience like Mories and Eric, and with Gospel of the Burning Idols, Aderlating comes forth with one of their most focused and complete recordings, capturing the sound closest to a live experience, with little sampling and using only “machines”, synths, vocals, and percussion. Digisleeve. |
 |
BIZARRE UPROAR - 'Perverse Bizarre Humiliation' CD (Freak Animal) - £11
Brand new album from Bizarre Uproar! This is the most musical and disturbing BU album so far. Minimalistic elements of reverb drenched drums, pulverizing bass and painful repetition of sleazy noises. Sludgy and dark soundscapes from the limits of harsh noise and power electronics, but "Perverse Bizarre Humiliation" continues the same suffocating and violent aura of Bizarre Uproar. Comes in a square plastic snapcase. |
 |
CAITHNESS - 'Crossing The Land Of Bereavement' CD
(Mono-Emotional Records) - £11
Debut album from Caithness, a side-project of Dark Sanctuary. This dark ambient and atmospheric project, close to the style of Raison d'Etre, Arcana or early Delerium, combines dark layers of ethereal synths, Gregorian voices, bells, acoustic guitar and percussion. Sumptuous, beautiful and ethereal atmospheres, highly recommended for those who love these ambiences. |

 |
CONTAGIOUS ORGASM / BABYLONE CHAOS - 'Altered Beats' CD
(Steelwork Maschine) - £11
Collaboration between these well known Japanese and French projects. An apocalyptic blend of mechanical beats, shrieking noises, old-school synths, creating a great industrial record! "Both sound architects joined forces to achieve a pure experimental work featuring 8 tracks. The cinematographic aspect of the album is quite noticeable while some dark orchestral arrangements inject a kind of dramatic expression. That’s precisely what “Altered Beats” tends to reveal; a kind of apocalyptic sensation made of noises, sound manipulations and other sonic chemistry to torture the listener’s poor souls. This is the kind of release that gets you in its grip and causes symptoms of fright, confusion, stupor and torment" (Side-Line). Limited to just 100 numbered copies (!) in a digipak with booklet. |
 |
MELEK-THA - 'Perfect World Eradication' CD (Kubernoise) - £10
Utterly disturbing and disconcerting, whipping up a fury of hallucinatory dark noise that can be spoken in the same breath as bands such as Lustmord, Brighter Death Now and Kerovnian. A supreme Apocalyptic Dark Ritual! A perfect mixture of obscure orchestrations mixed together with nihilistic industrialised sonorities... more abrasive than ever! Destructive death musick! |
 |
PAIN NAIL - 'Magneettinen Kohtalo' CD (Freak Animal) - £11
The new, long awaited full-length album of Pain Nail is finally available! 40 minutes album consisting of a large variety of material... from gloomy brooding heavy electronics to rusty and dark rhythmic metal percussion industrial, and epic atmospheric tracks. Comes in an outsized 12-page booklet. |
 |
SEKTOR 304 - 'Subliminal Actions' CD (Malignant Records) - £11
The follow-up to the highly acclaimed "Soul Cleansing" CD finds Portugal's Sektor 304 expanding on all aspects of their debut, once again channeling the essence of the old school guardians (Test Dept, SPK, Crash Worship), while simultaneously exploring new, uncharted territory. "Subliminal Actions" unleashes a cacophonous whirlwind of buzz saw grind, loops, power tools, and scraping, junk metal debris, clashing head on with assertive tribal percussion, clanging oil barrel rhythms, and industrial clamor resonating over a sprawling, post-apocalyptic wasteland. "Subliminal Actions" not only compliments "Soul Cleansing", but takes the Sektor 304 sound to new heights. A delivering yet striking record sure to solidify their standing as one of premier, truly industrial acts in operation today. 6 panel digipak, mastered by James Plotkin. |
 |

SHIFT - 'Sleep Paralysis' CD (Freak Animal) - £11
Re-issue of the tape edition, also by Freak Animal (2006). Simply a landmark in Shift's discography. Heaviness, slowness, heavily processed vocals, deep throbbing synths. STRIBORG - 'Black Desolate Winter / Depressive Hibernation' 2 x LP
(Aphelion Productions) - £17
Reissue of two old albums from Tasmanian necro BM legend Sin Nanna, brought together on vinyl for the first time. "Black Desolate Winter" was recorded during May 2005 and "Depressive Hibernation" was recorded during February 2005. This album is full of the undulating trademark buzzing guitars that Striborg employs, but the structure of the songs feel something like Burzum. 1 hour & 20 minutes of suffocating, depressive grimness. Packaged in a gatefold sleeve with one white vinyl, one black vinyl and an A2 poster. Ltd x 600 copies. |
 |
TREPANERINGSRITUALEN - 'The Totality Of Death' CD (Silken Tofu) - £11
With an impressive discography populated by small runs of cassette and vinyl releases, Sweden’s Trepaneringsritualen (aka Thomas Martin Ekelund) has quickly cultivated a cult following not normally seen within industrial music in 2013. With an uncanny ability to tap into the primitive nature of old school ritual ambient and death industrial, Trepaneringsritualen creates a strikingly authentic sound… shadowy and endlessly bleak, replete with clanking metal, slow, ceremonial percussion, and brooding textural depth, all infused with vocal incantations and murky, post-mortem atmospheres. "The Totality Of Death" is technically a 2CD set, released separately yet simultaneously between US label Malignant and Belgium’s Silken Tofu. The material is a 2 hour collection of rare and out of print recordings in addition to never before released tracks. The artwork and layout is nearly identical, and both are released in editions of 500 copies. Digipak. |
