AARON TURNER - 'Repression's Blossom' LP (Full Contact Records / Ektro Records / SIGE Records) - £20

Aaron Turner's solo debut album explores the realm of avant-garde and reductionist metal. Avoiding the pitfalls of unintentional monotone, the abstract narrative tightropes through viscous noise mayhem and clinical serenity towards the mythical echelons of minimalism with gravity analogous to Kevin Drumm, Caspar Brötzmann and Pauline Oliveros. The drone-supported fragments of exquisitely manipulated audio create a magnificent multi-layered backdrop for Turner's feral guitar mangling, which extends across lyrical abstraction and concrete art. Besides his solo works, Aaron Turner is renowned for his participation in the bands SUMAC, Old Man Gloom and more. He is also the founder of Hydra Head Records. Mastered by James Plotkin. Ltd x 300 copies with sleeve art by Turner.
ATE & NOWA ZIEMIA - 'Substrate' CD (Zoharum) - £11.50

Artur Krychowiak (Nowa Ziemia) and Petar Petkov (ate), both hailing from Tricity in northern Poland, join their forces to showcase mutual passion for guitar drones and harmonies. "Substrate" consists of 2 long, harmonic ambient tracks. Heavily processed guitars are surrounded by field recordings and subtle electronics creating soothing dronescapes. With each listen you'll discover new layers of musicality. This music is like a cushion for your mind. Ltd x 250 copies in a 6-panel digisleeve.
CIRCLE - 'Meronia' 2 x LP (Full Contact Records / Ektro Records / Svart Records) - £26

Unavailable on any format since the 2007 CD edition, the album that started the Finnish proto post-rock / krautrock cult in 1994 is finally reissued on deluxe double LP with a a bonus vinyl-only track. This new version features updated album artwork and has also been digitally remastered. Meronia's 70+ minutes of simultaneously mesmerizing and crushing songs laid the foundations for future Circle albums to come. Although various incarnations of the band have since created over 20 full-length releases, the fundamental elements at the heart of Circle (circling, hypnotic riffs and motorik rhythms) were already present on this first album. Ltd x 300 copies on solid orange vinyl in a gatefold sleeve.
CONJECTURE - 'Hydra' CD (Zoharum) - £11.50

Conjecture is the solo music project of the Greek Avant-Garde visual artist Vasilis Angelopoulos. Using mostly hardware synthesizers, metal sheets, piezo microphones, DIY impulse responses "collected" from abandoned buildings, and tape-manipulation, Conjecture expresses his manifestos upon human existence: religious folklore stereotypes and transcendence through archetypal rituals, body deconstruction, human subtraction and murder. On "Hydra", Angelopoulos pays homage to Greek mythology, with every track (and album itself) titled after a mythic creature telling its own story. The music is dark and sublime... the sound is crunchy and powerful. Tension is built from the very first and is kept high until the last track which eases it off with soothing ambient, field recordings and trumpet, giving this album closure it deserves. Greeks seem to have their own vision of ritual industrial music; Conjecture's take on the subject is mature and original and manifests in ruthless machine rhythms and cinematic storytelling that keeps you captivated from the very beginning to the very end. Ltd x 350 copies in a 6-panel digipak.
ERKKI KURENNIEMI - 'Rules' 2 x LP (Full Contact Records / Ektro Records) - £24

Key recordings and sonic experiments from the pioneer of Finnish electronic and experimental music and one of the great unsung innovators of the electronic age. Erkki Kurenniemi (1941-2017) played a central role in the development of electronic music in Finland. In the early 1960's he founded The University of Helsinki Electronic Music Studio, where his renowned electroacoustic recordings were realised. These tracks, produced 1963-1975, include Kurenniemi's focal works and previously unreleased raw material composed as solo works, plus collaborations with Kari Hakala, Jukka Ruohomäki, Otto Donner and Eino Ruutsalo. Kurenniemi’s impulsive attitude towards his art (including electronic music, films, media art, instrument design) is perfectly captured in his composition rules presented as a guide line of the release: #1 The work has to be completed in a single day #2 Consecutive sounds must be chosen so that they are totally inconsistent or surprising and have no rational relationship with each other. Carefully chosen masterpieces have been newly digitized from the original master tapes with highest possible sample rate and resolution (192 kHz, 24 bit) to preserve a pristine listening experience. Kurenniemi’s works are now heard first time as genuine as possible, with no artificial restoration applied in the remastering process. Second edition in gatefold sleeve.
ÉVA POLGÁR & SÁNDOR VÁLY - 'Gilgamesh' CD (Ektro Records) - £11.50

On this work, literature becomes music. "Gilgamesh" is the second joint project of two Hungarian experimental artists: international pianist Éva Polgár and conceptual multidisciplinary artist Sándor Vály. The music, based on the 5,000 year old Epic of Gilgamesh, is pervaded by extreme expressiveness and melancholic minimalism simultaneously. On the borderline of different time dimensions, the work presents an insoluble tension between realisation, death, and eternity. Every piece on the album contains the two extremes where the female quality answers the male, one builds upon the other, or they complete each other. Polgár and Vály continue the musical dialogue already featured on their first album, "Mondrian Variations". That is, the acoustic and electronic dialogue of piano, percussion instruments, and samplers.
ÉVA POLGÁR & SÁNDOR VÁLY - 'Milky Way And Nervous System' CD (Ektro Records) - £11.50

A representation of the macrocosm and microcosm; the duality of chaos and symmetry, using the pathways of the stars / nervous system as notation. "Milky Way" is a large-scale church organ work in which the vibration of sustained notes and the wide range of sound emulate the infinite nature of the universe. Following "Bruegel Variations" technique to determine the notes on the music sheet, this first part alone includes 180 lines; their total playtime would last seven and a half days. Thus, to play the music of all eight parts of the Milky Way would take 56 days without stopping. The sample that the listener hears on this CD is the first half of 1 out of 1350 lines. Whereas the Milky Way can be associated with the collective anthology of humanity that connects generations through past, present, and future, the human nervous system evokes roots, paths, and relations within the individual. The electroacoustic soundscape of "Nervous System" (which also uses the "Bruegel Variations" technique to map the human nervous system as notation), comprises percussive instrumental effects on top of piano lines. The whole album was inspired by the intriguing juxtaposition of a purer and ethereal world (macrocosm) and the noise and pulse of society (microcosm). Digipak with booklet. RECOMMENDED!
ÉVA POLGÁR & SÁNDOR VÁLY - 'Mondrian Variations' CD (Ektro Records) - £13

The second part of Sándor Vály's and Éva Polgár's experimental and audiovisual art project is a synesthetic processing based on Piet Mondrian's paintings. Modrian's paintings (composition, colour, space) have been transposed to sound-time codes, and orchestrated for piano and sampler. The score and music formed from the paintings in this way is a direct translation of the work, and allows the recipient to enjoy Modrian's paintings as music. "Music is the field where the human soul can sense the most of dissolution and union of genuses. This is the eroticism of music... the ancient unity of this harmony of feminine and masculine power". The CD includes the paintings: Composition with Grid 8, Broadway Boogie Woogie, Pier and Ocean, New York City I. The package also contains a 40-page (!) documentation booklet, which introduces the method used to create the Mondrian Variations. Housed in a slipcase.
FINAL MACHINE - 'Remora' CD (Flag Day Recordings) - £11

"The landscape is changing. Liquified sludge drifts through an ocean of oil, casting off the dimming sunlight of another gray day. A lone figure roams the bone-coloured terrain, drifting towards the sound of distant sirens - calling out to the wanderer from the bay of an empty harbour town. As the figure approaches, the mirage mutates before his eyes: the sirens become machines; their distant cry becomes a present scream. This is Remora. This is Final Machine". For the past five years, Roger Owsley has operated as a sort of medium: channeling the ghosts in the machine, and translating their nebulous frequencies into concrete, sonic paintings. "Remora" is his latest canvas, and its shadowy sickness may hold the cure you've been searching for - hidden somewhere in the molten panorama. Ltd x 100 copies (CD proper) in a gatefold digisleeve. Highly recommended!
GAAP KVLT - 'Untitled' CD (Zoharum) - £11.50

A compilation of tracks previously released by Polish BDTA label. If you're new to his work this is a great way to begin your journey. What you'll find here are dark, minimalist and often bass-heavy soundscapes enriched with field recordings, electronica and references to Near East drumming aesthetics. From more isolationist ambient and moods to sink into, through dubbed out pulsations to more rhythmic structures to nod your head to, this compilation presents well-balanced and maturely paced selection of the artist vision of music that is convincing enough that at times you can almost smell the sunburned sand of the desert. Ltd x 350 copies in a 6-panel ecopak.
HANZO HASASHI - 'Ikigai' CD (Flag Day Recordings) - £11

After the intense 2020 tape "Tykoching vs. Gamera", Hanzo Hasashi's brand of cinematic, surgically accurate and twitching cut ups continues with "Ikigai" ("a reason for being"). This Japanese concept refers to having a direction or purpose in life, providing a sense of fulfillment and towards which they the person may take actions, giving them satisfaction and a sense of meaning. Hanzo Hasashi is an artist involved in the areas of cut-up harsh noise mixed with field recordings, ambient, jazz, industrial and modern electronic music. Each of his albums show a different style and approach, bringing something new and surprising to the listener. Digisleeve.
JUSSI LEHTISALO - 'Elämä' LP (Full Contact Records / Ektro Records) - £23

A deep and complex collection of experimental synth-pop sounds exploring the themes of movement, light, and shadow, Jussi Lehtisalo's (CIRCLE, PHARAOH OVERLORD) seventh solo album delivers tones ranging from subtle and spacious modulated environments to complex rhythmic soundbeds, and chaotic glitch-inspired madness. With a genre-defying career that spans nearly 20 years and nearly 100 different recordings, Jussi Lehtisalo is most renowned for Finland's legendary krautrock band CIRCLE. Ltd x 300 copies on yellow / green splatter vinyl.
NATHAN MOODY - 'De/Still' CD (Flag Day Recordings) - £11

"de/Still" is a musical score for photography. Composer / musician Nathan Moody was asked by photographer TJ Norris to aurally interpret his "Urban Juxtapositions" series. The result is an eleven-movement audio work that boldly bridges the worlds of bricolage, musique concréte, electronic music, and acoustic drone into a unified sound-world. Rather than literally interpret each photograph as a visual score, Moody categorized the textures at play and created timbral leitmotifs and instrument classifications to help convey the photographs' patina of wear and cycles of decay and renewal. Synthesizers, fiddles, dulcimer, strings, piano, field recording, digital glitch, and damaged analogue tape swirl in a dreamlike mélange of menace and solace. de/Still is undeniably urban, utterly timeless, and truly unique. Mark Wiedenbaum (Disquiet) provides an interpretive essay alongside Norris' intriguing photographs in the accompanying 8-page booklet. The CD is presented as a massive continuous mix.
OLD CASTLE - 'Welcome To Graceland' CD (Zoharum) - £11.50

Robin Storey (Rapoon, ex-Zoviet France), Robert Pepper (Pas Musique) and Shaun Sandor (Promute) met in 2011 when they performed in Brooklyn. First collaborating as duos, they decided to work as a trio and so Old Castle came to life - an incarnation of synergy drawn from the experience and creativity of each member. The end result is pretty hard to classify; tracks bear echoes of Coil... you can feel a shamanistic approach to sound creation with influences of IDM... the dark tone moves towards more rhythmic, colourful and abstract structures to end with the droning horror of the last track. Everything is veiled in mystery and eeriness; the overall experience reminds of an acid trip with all its lighter and darker aspects. Colours, textures and shapes turn into acid-like yet coherent collages of sounds. Ltd x 400 copies in a 6-panel digipak with cover art by Magdalena Eftimova.
PAKASTEET With CHARLES HAYWARD - 'Molten Salt' LP (Full Contact Records / Ektro Records) - £20

Pakasteet (Jussi Lehtisalo of CIRCLE / PHARAOH OVERLORD and Mika Taanila of SWISSAIR / MUSIIKKIVYÖRY) with Charles Hayward (THIS HEAT, THIS IS NOT THIS HEAT, CAMBERWELL NOW), inspiried by early Tuxedomoon's bittersweet melodies, Negativland's angular collage attacks, the looseness of Mark Z. Danielewski's novel House Of Leaves, and the mind-boggling short films by John Smith. Imagine A.I. amalgamating the last avant-hard sonicists of a future-past for the final anthem: that mad dance of a civilization lost in sunshine ruin. "We’re all busy talking to ourselves", groans Charles Hayward, man of skins... "everybody’s looking in the mirror". A possible tomorrow, cut and drawn out long by the warbling of the cot and the battlefield... the limitless possibilities of electricity. Recorded at Cafe OTO, London, October 2017.
PHARAOH OVERLORD - '5' CD (Ektro Records) - £11.50

The synth wave that's been hammering Ektroland in recent years is now banging at the door of Pharaoh Overlord Synthesizer Club with ear-splitting frequencies soaring down across the Moog Bass lines. A concoction of dystopian anthems - a cauldron of Neue Deutche Welle storm - prepared by Tomi "Florian" Leppänen and Jussi "Ralf" Lehtisalo (both hailing from Finnish krautrock legends Circle). Pharaoh Overlord "5" marks the arrival of the band's brave new duo lineup. Ingredients: Suicide, Nena, La Düsseldorf, Lonnie Holley. Space rock with "sequenced rhythms and gleaming keyboard melodies cribbing from cosmic disco, Italo, synthpop and the more proto-techno sorts of the 1970s German set, then topped off by extreme metal vocals" (The Quietus). Features guest guitars/vocals from Aaron Turner (SUMAC, Old Man Gloom).
PHARAOH OVERLORD - '5' LP (Full Contact Records / Ektro Records) - £20

Vinyl version of the above release. Ltd x 350 copies.
PHARAOH OVERLORD - 'Zero' CD (Ektro Records) - £11.50

Pharaoh Overlord steer an exceedingly singular course on their ninth studio album "Zero" . Augmented by Antti Boman (DEMILICH) and Hans Joachim Irmler (FAUST), the psych-rock / space rock supergroup (consisting of members from CIRCLE) have taken their ouvre to a whole new psychiatric plateau. Libido-driven arithmetics do not apply on these aberrant tracks. "Zero" provides an offbeat rock 'n' roll implosion, with its sonic realm contorting inwards like a sapient voice muffled by the gentle void of cyberspace. What the album has to offer is exposure to genuine ingenuity. Mastered by James Plotkin. Presented in a mini-LP sleeve with printed inner sleeve.
PHARAOH OVERLORD - 'Zero' LP (Full Contact Records / Ektro Records / Hydra Head) - £20

Vinyl version of the above release, with printed inner sleeve.
RAPOON & PACIFIC 231 - 'Palestine' CD (Zoharum) - £11.50

"Palestine" was the first collaboration between two titans of the industrial and underground music scene: Pierre Jolivet (Pacific 231) and Robin Storey (Rapoon, Zoviet France). Originally released as limited CD in 2007 by Old Europa Cafe and "Dedicated to the struggling Palestinian Nation and to the memory of Bryn Jones 1961-1999". Given that "Palestine" is dedicated to Muslimgauze and Israeli-Palestinian conflict it's easy to predict what you'll find here. Each side of the record presents the artists' take on middle eastern rhythms and sound. Side A is raw. For over 20 minutes Jolivet focuses on subtle processing over hypnotic distorted drum loops. On side B Storey takes us on a long, IDM-ish trip following what seems to be Muezzin call. This extended CD contains additional 3 rare tracks that were taken from the limited Old Europa Cafe version of the album and Pacific's "el-Arish" business card CD. This album is as important due to the subject it touches as it's true and uncompromising and is still relevant now as it was in the time of its creation. Remastered by Robin Storey. Ltd x 200 copies in a 6-panel ecopak.
RAPOON / LORDS OF INFINITY - 'Split' CD (Zoharum) - £11.50

A split release between Rapoon and Lords Of Infinity, hailing from England and Russia respectively. "For this split CD I returned to the origins of processes that had been there in their most fundamental form in Zoviet France. A ritualistic and shamanistic approach to the creation of music. Uncensored by intellect. More spiritual in nature than conceptual. Elemental and primordial. Not that these elements do not exist in my contemporary creation process, more that they are stripped bare in these pieces" (Rapoon). Behind Russian ritual ambient and experimental project LOI stand Marina Kryzhanovskaya and Mikhail Kiryukhin: "the woman and the man, two eternal souls. The main idea is that life is an immersion to the mystery. The main and essential mystic experience is love and creation. Spiritual invocation awakes delight and horror... music incarnates pan-unity. But whereof one can't speak, thereof one must be silent. Our split is about the eternal marriage of all that exists, flow of the eternally youthful life energy" (Lords Of Infinity). 70 minutes of beautiful and enchanted music. Ltd x 500 copies in a 6-panel digipak.
SAKSET - 'Salaisuuksien Puutarha' LP (Full Contact Records / Ektro Records) - £20

If you build a pyramid using the combined album discographies of Veli-Matti Äijälä (Terveet Kädet, Aavikon Kone Ja Moottori, The Kolmas), Jussi Lehtisalo (Circle, Pharaoh Overlord) and Tomi Leppänen (Circle, Pharaoh Overlord), you'd end up with a megastructure big enough to be visible from the moon. But where to enter that pyramid? Do you need to cut a hole into the door? The secret passage is the new electronic album by Sakset (Scissors). "Salaisuuksien Puutarha" ("Garden Of Secrets") is musically soft and melodic. Lyrically it dives deep into grief and loss, but also transcends high through the cosmos. Produced under the experimental synthwave / accidental pop umbrella of Lehtisalo and Leppänen, the music on this album makes a perfect bed for Äijälä's cryptic one-liner poetry. Comes in a reverse board sleeve, with A1 poster and printed inner sleeve, with cover art by Benjamin Marra.
SÁNDOR VÁLY - 'Young Dionysos' CD (Ektro Records) - £11.50

The main music of the multidisciplinary artist Sándor Vály here was an extreme experimental ritual of piano destruction with an axe; beautiful, brutal, honest. The mutilated piano plays surprisingly beautifully, yet heartbreakingly, until the end. "We are here not for your entertainment. If you are here for entertainment, go home. We are offering you the cathartic experience of pain, the one needed for every creation, for every piece made by humans". "Young Dionysos" is about authority, madness, breaking the boundaries, unpredictability, scandals, depth, ecstasy, and sexuality. In this concert it comes out as sound, noise and music. This concert is part of a bigger audiovisual production that combines music, painting, sculpture, and actionism. "Young Dionysos" is a growing work that combines sound, form and movement; it is a story of the intensive and cathartic experience of existence without which nothing man-made would exist. "Young Dionysos" is an orgy of vitalism. "Young Dionysos" is a feast. Digipak with booklet.
SÁNDOR VÁLY & ÉVA POLGÁR - 'Die Toteninsel' CD (Ektro Records) - £13

Sándor Vály's fictional reconstruction of the lost opera "Die Toteninsel". Collaborating with pianist and composer Éva Polgár, Vály explores the meanings embedded in the libretto published in the aftermath of World War I in 1919. The original score for Karl Georg Zwerenz's (1874-1933) libretto was composed by Jeno Zádor (1894-1977). The opera was performed just once. After its premiere at the Hungarian Royal Opera House in 1928, Zádor's score disappeared without a trace. In the hands of Vály and Polgár, the multifaceted libretto and the lost music lends itself to Dadaist interpretation. Their minimalist and avant-garde take on the text reflects the misunderstandings, mishearings, accents and language distortions that are characteristic of our day and age. Vály and Polgár's highly original music captures the listener in its mesmerizing grip as profoundly as Steve Reich and Philip Glass. The libretto is based on symbolist artist Arnold Böcklin's (1827-1901) painting The Isle of the Dead. Presented in an impressive 6-panel digipak with a 100-page (!!) booklet.
SÁNDOR VÁLY & JÚLIA HEÉGER - 'Sacred Songs' CD (Ektro Records) - £12

"Sacred Songs" brings eerie minimalism to meditative drone. Sándor Vály and Júlia Heéger's monochrome masterpiece of Medieval overtones is augmented with brutal feedback noise, while Heéger's bewitching vocal springs from monophonic sacred music. With superb tension-building, these musical recordings and releases pay tribute to Europe's first female composer Hildegard Von Bingen - the diverse and ramifying German mystic, the naturalist abbess, whose work spread into the fields of natural science, of medicine, of poetry and of music. This work gives rise to dance; to sacred dance and to provocation; to one of the oldest and purest forms of communication, as old as mankind. It is a question on the absence of dance in churches, when every other artform is present - the separation of body and soul; the elevation of the spiritual world and the rejection of the body. Digipak with booklet. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
SCHRÖTTERSBURG - 'Dalet' CD (Zoharum) - £11.50

"Dalet" is the fourth full-length Schröttersburg album. It presents the persistence of vision in the trio's style - new wave and post-punk aesthetics with krautrock propulsion enriched by echoes of psychedelia and industrial rawness. Add yearning vocals on top and you get a balanced mixture that keeps you hypnotized to the very end. The album is very cohesive as a whole, but each song also lives its own life as an autonomous entity. The lyrics are as deeply emotional as they are expressive and they complete the music perfectly. Ltd x 300 copies in a digipak with 16-page booklet.
SCHRÖTTERSBURG - 'Dalet' LP (Zoharum) - £19

LP version of the above release. Ltd x 300 copies on 180g vinyl with full-size insert and download card.
TEHÔM - 'Phobos' CD (Zoharum) - £11.50

TeHÔM is the first ever Croatian dark ambient audio-visual project and one of Europe's mainstays within the genre, previously released on labels such as Twilight Command, Cyclic Law, and Zazen Sounds. "Phobos" is an audio documentation of a live performance held at the extraordinary location of Sophienkirche in Wuppertal, Germany during Phobos Festival in 2019. It was recorded directly at the mixing desk and over a microphone capturing the church's acoustics, which can be heard on the recording itself. The music is atmospheric and ritual; grim and narrative electronics enriched by TeHÔM's chanting and processed acoustics of a percussive nature are at the same time pleasant for the ear and unsettling for the mind. Phobos is a dark, dark place to be. Ltd x 350 copies in a 6-panel digipak.
THE KOLMAS - 'Kolmas Testi' LP (Full Contact Records / Ektro Records) - £18

The Kolmas is Veli-Matti Äijälä (Terveet Kädet, Aavikon Kone Ja Moottori, Sakset) and Markku Leinonen (Death Trip, Terveet Kädet). Compiled from the few known The Kolmas live performances and recordings especially for this LP, "Kolmas Testi" presents experimental / minimal / analogue noise  moments with timeless music from over the years. 'Intro' was recorded live in front of a small crowd in a hot garage in Tornio, Finland, in the early 1980's. The remixed versions of The Kolmas-Logo as well as 'Puolet Paavia' parts 1 and 2 were recorded in IKBAL Studios in Tornio. The 'Viisi Osaa' tracks were recorded in IKBAL Studios in Helsinki in the 1990's. The latest nine compositions, which are set in the city of Oulu, give a finishing touch to the coherent whole of this album. An inspiringly mechanical production using the Wasp synthesizer, Alesis SR-16 drum machine, Korg Monotribe analogue ribbon station and more.
THETA - 'Total Division' CD (Zoharum) - £11.50

Behind Theta stands Greek artist Themistoklis Altintzoglou, currently residing in Tromso, northern Norway. He is also half of the duos Metatag and Isolation. Theta has been collaborating with Mitsumidai on Brazilian horror film soundtracks (Uptake Fear and The Hand), background music for podcasts and has contributed with soundscapes and atmospherics for Tau Cross and WAR//PLAGUE albums. "Total Division" presents 9 mysterious, and doom-driven tracks that are drowned in distortion and reverb. Bringing to mind Maeror Tri, Theta unleashes powerful, dense and textural music that you can almost touch, with guitar at the center of his inspirations and sources. Ltd x 300 copies in a 6-panel ecopak.
TOURETTE - 'Échancré' CD (Flag Day Recordings) - £11

A new work by French raging harsh noise act, Tourette. This is Tourette's first new material since 2017's "Proximité Du Murmure" (Triangle Records). An absolute masterclass of dynamic, crushing and emotive harsh noise presented within 4 untitled tracks (over 40 mins of music). Digisleeve.
VIDNA OBMANA - 'Revealed By Composed Nature' CD (Zoharum) - £11.50

A reissue of Vidna Obmana's (Dirk Serries) 1990 album "Revealed By Composed Nature", originally released on Belgian label The Decade Collection. Serries turns to magic whatever he touches. Whenever it’s dark ambient, drone or more experimental sounds you can always expect highest quality of musical expression. This album consists of magnificent and gentle sounds with a slight new age feel. Beautiful harmonics seep through speakers and induce a sedative state. Perfectly constructed tape loops peacefully float into infinity carrying us with them. Tender electronics and acoustic treatments enrich ambience giving us a blurry yet amazingly soothing soundscape. This album as a whole serves its purpose as the aural therapy our disturbed minds in these crazy times. Features PBK. Remastered by Dirk Serries. Photography by Martina Verhoeven. Ltd x 400 copies in a 6-panel digipak.
VLADIMIR HIRSCH - 'Katagenesis' CD (Zoharum) - £11.50

Vladimir Hirsch (Aghiatrias, Skrol) is a composer and a veteran of the Czech industrial scene. "Katagenesis" showcases Hirsch's consistency in style of creation. Melodic, powerful, sublime and absolutely terrifying. The album is presented in the form of a triptych of symphonies: "Axonal Transit", "Metaspheres" and "Hymn". Across 11 tracks we are taking a true tour de fear as we're experiencing a sonic representation of horror. Orchestral instruments mixed with electronics hold us in suspense from the very beginning to the very end giving us only a few short breaks to catch a breath. An amazing take on modern classical and experimental music. Ltd x 300 copies in a digipak.

OUT NOW!

 Soundcloud  Soundcloud  YouTube
Cold Spring presents two Swedish titans - NORDVARGR (MZ.412) and ᚦᛟᚦ ᚷᛁᚷ (TREPANERINGSRITUALEN) - teaming up for a bludgeoning dose of Death Industrial majesty.

Det Kätterska Förbund, consisting of the two giants dominating the Death Industrial world - Thomas Ekelund (Trepaneringsritualen, Dead Letters Spell Out Dead Words) + Henrik Nordvargr Björkk (MZ.412, Pouppée Fabrikk, Folkstorm etc) - has been slowly and methodically working for almost 5 years to finish the first album of this double-headed abomination. Patience richly rewarded.

You can instantly feel the presence of lurking unease as the album slowly opens up a distorted world of familiar sounds and voices, but there is something special about these recordings; the menacing aura that has been created adds new elements to the otherwise rigid tropes of the genre. Punishingly heavy rhythmic tracks, with savage incantations from both Thomas and Nordvargr, gratifyingly familiar to fans of the artists' main projects, are flanked by these death-scarred lamentations.

NEIL CHANEY - 'Aura' CD (CSR296CD) £10.50

OUT NOW!

 Soundcloud  Soundcloud  YouTube
We are very proud to release the original soundtrack by Neil Chaney to the British supernatural horror film "Aura" (aka The Exorcism Of Karen Walker). From the first notes, the incredibly evocative compositions feature huge swathes of cavernous Dark Ambient, with unsettling dark synths in the vein of the legendary '70's Italian Giallo horror. Quieter, and indeed sinister moments, are evoked by emotive strings, synths and piano, adding pathos and a melancholy atmosphere to the disturbing score.

Aura: A couple discover Kirlian Photography apparatus in their new house. Intrigued by the concept of photographing peoples' Auras they unwittingly release an ancient evil. Only the local psychic can help and she knows far more than she reveals. Aura stars: Rula Lenska (a darling of British TV), Shane Taylor (Band Of Brothers), Jeanine Nerissa Sothcott (Nemesis).

Composing film soundtracks since 2009, Neil Chaney was also the creative mind behind the cinematic dark ambient / fortean electronics act Satori (2007-2008 with Justin Mitchell), releasing their acclaimed album 'Kanashibari', and the EP 'Contemptus Mundi' (feat Magus Peter H Gilmore, High Priest of the Church Of Satan). He was also the creator of early 90's Industrial act Pessary. Presented in a matt digipak.

LP + Shirt Combo Deal
We are proud to announce a special vinyl edition of the Black Ambient masterpiece from Nordvargr (MZ.412). "Pyrrhula", is one of our most requested albums, and was originally released on CD by Cold Spring in 2008. This 2021 edition has been restored from the original masters, and further refined for the vinyl format.

Partly based on an old Swedish folktale, Pyrrhula ("doomlord") is a pitch black journey into utter darkness. This is a tale of foreboding doom... a portent of dark times to come... a blight on the face of this earth. These eight Black Ambient / Doom / Droneworks were brought forth from the abyss of Villa Bohult exclusively for Cold Spring and contain the malevolent vocals of Lord Nordvargr himself!.

"Beware the small creatures of light, they only bring misery and death upon the enlightened ones. For they will paint their breast with blood and reap your unborn angels".

Ltd x 500 copies on pale amber vinyl.
Black Fruit Of The Loom Heavy Cotton t-shirt with front and back print.

Comes with exclusive artcard when bought directly from us.

"If 'Pyrrhula' was colour it would be vantablack... It's an album that feels like it sucks the air out of the room. It makes you sit still and take notice, but most importantly, it still sounds as epic and devastating as it did 13 years ago" (Vital Weekly)

CONTROLLED DEATH (MASONNA) / MAYUKO HINO - 'Split' Picture Disc LP (CSR291P) £20

OUT NOW!

 Soundcloud  Soundcloud  YouTube
Two giants of the Japanese Noise scene present exclusive material on a special limited vinyl release.

Controlled Death is the nom de plume of Maso Yamazaki (MASONNA), who unleashed his claustrophobic Death Industrial / Blackened Electronics debut for Cold Spring last autumn (the sold out split LP with Rudolf Eb.er). "Devil's Sacrifice" (in 6 parts) continues Maso's obsession with heavy, Korg MS-20 drones. Deranged vocals choked under impenetrable, blood-soaked atmospheres of doom, death and decay, saturated with washes of anxiety, paranoia and alienation.

Mayuko Hino, 'Queen Of Japanese Noise', delivers two lengthy tracks. While the first track is filled with feverish, dense noise and swathes of savage electronics, the second, mind-melting electronic piece (reminiscent of her debut album 'Lunisolar' for Cold Spring) descends into a diseased, suffocating maelstrom, finishing on the verge of psychosis. In addition to self-made instruments, Mayuko plays noise with her six-theremin oscillators (in bright pink) - the one and only in the world, specially made by Ryo Araishi (a.k.a. ichion). Mayuko is most well-known for forming C.C.C.C. (Cosmic Coincidence Control Center) in 1990, together with Hiroshi Hasegawa, Fumio Kosakai and Ryuichi Nagakubo.

Picture disc LP. Ltd x 400 copies in a heavy PVC archive sleeve.

HIMUKALT - 'Knife Through The Spine' CD (CSR289CD) £11

OUT NOW!

 Soundcloud  Soundcloud  YouTube
Primitive, old school industrial, with an obsessive, post-mortem feel. This is the first CD edition of Himukalt's cult 2018 LP (originally released on Malignant Records), remastered and including bonus material from the same recording sessions.

"There's something uniquely old school and primitive at work here, capturing the claustrophobic, unsettled and fragmented sound of early Illusion of Safety or mid-late '80s industrial on a whole, conteINJMBOO9 Hmporising it, and filling it in with an obsessive, post-mortem feel. Knife Through The Spine delivers a steady cascade of abstract sounds, festering with grinding pneumatic throb, coarse frequency blasts and sputtering electronic oscillations, with spliced snippets of processed, flanged vocals and a general sense of social anxiety and disaffection. A unique and challenging take on heavy electronics for fans of Puce Mary, She Spread Sorrow, Atrax Morgue".

Himukalt is the Nevada-based project of the enigmatic Ester Kärkkäinen. Presented in a 6-panel digipak.

FM EINHEIT (Einstürzende Neubauten) - 'Exhibition Of A Dream' 2 x CD (CSR292CD) £15

 Soundcloud  Soundcloud
Twelve dreams of musicians, artists, and filmmakers, interpreted by FM Einheit (ex-EINSTÜRZENDE NEUBAUTEN), with voices by: Lee Ranaldo (SONIC YOUTH), Genesis Breyer P-Orridge (PSYCHIC TV / THROBBING GRISTLE), Susan Stenger (BAND OF SUSANS), Émilie Pitoiset, Erika Stucky, and the Gulbenkian Choir; with guest musicians: Volker Kamp, Saskia von Klitzing, Robert Poss, and Susan Stenger.

Exhibition Of A Dream (L'exposition D'un Rêve) is formed of twelve dreams interpreted as songs. Exploded in time, these are played as temporary and evolving patterns of shapes and forms in an otherwise empty gallery following the drawings of mandalas. Exhibition Of A Dream highlights the complex beauty of how to generate a dream in the mind of the spectator. A shared experience to be lived within our own personal inner space, these remastered dreams are an invitation to listen to a sensitive architecture of words and music.

Created 2017, recorded both in public and in private in the amphitheatres and the garden of the Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian in Lisbon, and in Einheit's own studio Steinschlag. The dreamers were: Apichatpong Weerasethakul, Lee Ranaldo, Émilie Pitoiset, Susan Stenger, Susie Green, David Link, Pierre Paulin, Alexandre Estrela, Tim Etchells, Gabriel Abrantes, FM Einheit, and Genesis Breyer P-Orridge.

Originaslly released as a 3LP set, and only ever available at the 2018 exhibition at the Foundation. Presented in a 6-panel matt-laminate double digipak.

NYTT LAND - 'Fimbulvinter' CD (CSR234CD) £11

OUT NOW!

 Soundcloud  Soundcloud
Second edition of Nytt Land's 2017 album, which quickly sold out on first pressing.

Notably outstanding on the Russian scene and largely compared with the legendary Wardruna, NYTT LAND are unique in their devotion to ritual Northern music and tradition. Their approach, using genuine native hand-crafted instruments, and true Old Norse, help them to grasp the true spirit of ancient Northern music like no one in Eastern Europe has done before. Their music is mostly based on the sources from Poetic Eddfa, performed in original Old Islandic.

"Fimbulvinter" is enriched with instruments like bagpipes and trembita (Alpine horn), and throat singing skillfully used to illustrate the occurrence of the forces of chaos; chthonic monsters in the world of men and gods. Fear and powerlessness alongside belief in the coming revival, renewal. All Scandinavian mythology is permeated with fatalism, humbleness to fate. The same mood saturates "Fimbulvinter". The first part is dedicated to the creation of the world and people, embodying the warm seasons. The second half to winter, the death of all living things. 6-panel digipak featuring all lyrics.

JAGATH - 'Devalaya' CD (CSR290CD) £11

Jagath is a ritual/industrial ambient act from Perm, Russia.

We create our music at abandoned industrial locations - the bottom of a moist underground sewer shaft and inside huge hollow oil tanks - without using digital synthesis. We use simple, mostly hand-crafted instruments, found objects and our voices. We do this to share our vision of decaying post-industrial age, to unleash the spirit of deep beyond-world and unveil life in the abyss.

"Devalaya" ("Temple") was recorded in vast oil tanks from 2015 to 2018. 6-panel glossy digipak with photography by Gregory Skvortsov and Dmitriy Frolov.

'I REMEMBER YOU' (ÓSKAR THÓR AXELSSON) Original Motion Picture Soundtrack CD (CSR287CD) £10.50

 Soundcloud  Soundcloud  YouTube
We are extremely proud to release the official soundtrack to the cult Icelandic horror film 'I REMEMBER YOU' (Is: "Ég man þig"). Heavy dark ambient / industrial / orchestral soundscapes composed by Frank Hall, with a beautiful, solemn, folkloristic finale featuring Icelandic choirs. A must for fans of Graeme Revell, Steven Price, Lustmord, MZ.412. Digipak.

The soundtrack was created at the old industrial area of Grandi in Reykjavík, at a studio due to be 'gentrified' and forcefully emptied of the artists. "I was alone in this large building in this deserted area, working late hours, making music for a horror movie. It was during winter... wind blowing, darkness. There were some tense moments...".

"As soon as I read the script I heard low brass in my head and that kind of stuck. We used a lot of brass instruments, filtered and processed throughout. I also ended up using a lot of bowed guitar, sometimes doubling the brass, sometimes more like a sound effect". Hall also used analogue synths on the special climactic track "Montage".

'I Remember You' is based on the internationally acclaimed novel by Yrsa Sigurðardóttir, the "Queen of Icelandic Crime".

WESTERN, CREED, SPYBEY
'W ands' CD (CSR280CD) £11

OUT NOW!

 Soundcloud  Soundcloud
A posthumous collaboration between the late Phil Western (DOWNLOAD, BEEHATCH), Jesse Creed (THE PASSENGER) and Mark Spybey (DOWNLOAD, DEAD VOICES ON AIR, REFORMED FACTION, BEEHATCH). Both Phil and Jesse shared a love for vintage analogue synthesizers such as the VCS3, and the music for "W ands" was largely created using this equipment. In the spirit of how it was created, Spybey added improvised passages using his collection of homemade and ethnic instruments and then edited the pieces.

Phil would often talk about being 'taken away' by music. Both Jesse and Mark have laboured to do this through their own music too, not as a means of escape but to transcend. This music strives to explore the desire to go beyond the ordinary everyday experience and to reach a place where the egos and the individual contributions of the players are largely inconsequential. A place where time doesn't really matter. A place of healing and invention.

An album of expansive drones and analogue electronics, which will undofubtedly appeal to fans of Coil, Nurse With Wound, Zoviet France. Digipak.

LLYN Y CWN 'Dinorwic' CD (CSR286CD) £11

OUT NOW!

 Soundcloud  Soundcloud YouTube
Llyn Y Cwn conveys atmosphere and environment through deep ambient sounds. The sound of nature re-establishing itself in the post-industrial wilderness of a former quarry. A phantasm of echoes reflecting the bleak majesty and poetic melancholy of the hinterland of North Wales. A hole within a void, a place defined by absence in a world of negative space.

The backdrop for this cavernous soundtrack is Dinorwic slate quarry. The field recordings were taken in this vast subterranean environment where an exposed scar of rock is carved out of the mountainside on the western slope of Elidir Fawr in Snowdonia, North Wales.

Standing alone in the quarry, which covers 700 acres up to a height of 600m, it isn't difficult to imagine work going on around you with the abandoned industrial landscape juxtaposed against the backdrop of the majestic Snowdonia skyline.

Each track is named after an area of the quarry, descending ever deeper through each rock gallery, with their acoustically unique echoes and sounds. The landscape is in a state of constant flux with small avalanches of rock and spoil slate tumbling over itself - it was such a landslide that led to the eventual demise of the quarry. The hydroelectric power station, built deep underground inside the mountain, can be heard rumbling away through the various air shafts dotted around the quarry, adding to the overall ominous feel of the pieces.

File next to fellow Welshman Lustmord.

Presented in a 6-panel digipak with breathtaking photography by the artist.

LA BREICHE ("the witch") features YAN AREXIS (Stille Volk / Sus Scrofa / Common Eider, King Eider / Coume Ouarnède), and PATRICK LAFFORGUE (Stille Volk / Sus Scrofa / Hantaoma). The two musicians are also the creators of the cult festival L'Homme Sauvage, held in Midi-Pyrenees each year.

After their 2017 debut "Le Mal des Ardents" (Cold Spring), "Le Rite" opens a new door, with post-folk sounds close to post-rock, influenced by ancient music, with folk used in a modernist way. Dark, ambient and yet mystical... deep with grandiose landscapes.

The sound of La Breiche is situated at the crossroads of early music and dark ambient; ambient music, industrial music with a strong ritual dimension. Their electro-acoustic is music based on old instruments such as the hurdy-gurdy, mixed with analogue synths, field recordings, and ritual objects, taking a mystified look at nature, archaic societies, rites, beliefs and lores, animism.

Presented in a stunning 6-panel digipak with artwork by Dehn Sora.
