The 'Outland' album series was a collaborative endeavour by the visionary US bassist-producer Bill Laswell and the late German musician Pete Namlook that pushed the boundaries of dark ambient and electronic music.
Spanning five albums released over a thirteen year period from 1994, this new boxset serves as a testament to the creative synergy between the two masterminds.
At the time the duo joined forces, the New York-based Bill Laswell was already a famous producer with a massive client list that included cutting-edge rock, pop, funk, jazz and electronic artists, but he had also founded the Axiom label in 1989 and been responsible for groundbreaking work in genres that included ambient, dub and world music. Pete Namlook was recognised as a pioneering figure in the ambient techno scene, having founded the label FAX +49-69/450464 in his native Frankfurt in 1992.
'Outland' became a fusion of their individual musical sensibilities that resulted in a unique set of releases. At the heart of the series is an exploration of sound as a vehicle for emotion and contemplation, with Laswell's signature basslines and experimental soundscapes interweaving seamlessly with Namlook's ethereal textures and intricate sonic layering. Each album is characterised by a sense of expansiveness, taking listeners on a voyage through rarely charted sonic dimensions. All have the ability to evoke a wide range of emotions and have their own distinctive sonic palette, ranging from ambient tranquility to cosmic intensity.
'Outland' has endured as an influential touchstone, its impact felt not only in its captivating soundscapes but also in its invitation to engage in deep introspection and cosmic contemplation. With each album, the duo beckoned listeners to transcend the mundane and embark on a sonic voyage into the extraordinary, where sound becomes a conduit for spiritual and artistic expression.
The lavish matte-finish boxset opens to the 5 "Outland" albums in separate matte sleeves, with all-new designs, and all audio completely remastered. This box also contains a new addition to the OUTLAND series - an album of dense, bass space drone by Bill Laswell, entitled "Blackland". The boxset also contains an exclusive card with an essay about the project written by BIll Laswell, July 2023. |

A carefully curated selection of the crucial compilation tracks from Horror Electronics / Post-Industrial project BURIAL HEX, gathering and remastering them together, striving to create a resonance between disparate sources, forming an extraordinary new experience.
After nearly 20 years of activity from this restless project, many Burial Hex compilation tracks have been released, often of a very unique and high quality as Clay Ruby seemed to enjoy taking compilation submission requests as an opportunity to offer new perspectives on their already bizarre and eclectic work.
Many of the tracks were from cassettes, vinyl, or digital-only releases for labels such as Brave Mysteries, Aurora Borealis, Clan Destine, Small Doses, and Buh, appearing here on CD for the first time - or in the case of 'Pentitential March', never-before released. Clay Ruby has remixed each track, in some cases re-envisioning them specifically to live together coherently in this incarnation, making this collection more like a new studio album rather than another anthology compilation.
Revelling in the intimate, feral surrealism that we have come to know without parallel from this intoxicating project, "In Hiding" is an excellent view into the romantic Promethean theater of Burial Hex, whether for the neophyte or the adept.

Formed in the mid-80's, with previous releases on high-calibre labels such as Broken Flag, Cold Spring, Trident, Mindscan, and Tesco Organisation, Industrial / Power Electronics veteran SATØRI returns with a new dark and disturbing journey into the very depths of human horror.
"Debris in the corners; steel shavings and teeth..."
Using his love of pure noise, harsh synths and brutal percussion, SATØRI has created a dystopian cinematic soundscape in which it would be entirely possible to lose your very soul.
While the last two releases concentrated on what could be described as "observations on humanity's ability to drag itself down to its lowest common denominator", this new work focuses on a more localised depravity - that of the lone wolf. An individual who, having no moral compass, has no boundaries to cross.

An overcast autumn afternoon in the forest and a light rain crackles the fallen leaves. The camera, low to the ground, follows behind a pair of well-worn work boots as they approach a rundown shack deep in the undergrowth. As we move closer the air seems to thicken. To the side is what appears to be a shed or garage. Wooden double doors rotten at the base but firmly chained and padlocked. The camera moves to the front and rises to eye level. Hands reach out to undo the locks. For some inescapable reason we know that inside we are going to find pure unadulterated evil.

A collaborative album by Drew Daniel (Matmos, The Soft Pink Truth) and John Wiese (Sissy Spacek, Smegma, LHD,).
"Continuous Hole" melds improvisation and musique concrète composition into a uniquely sweaty document of labour-intensive rhythm. A finger puzzle of reconciled opposites: lockstep structure, constant flux.
Relentlessly variable source material is relegated to precisely timed gated forms and patterns. Without using any sampling or MIDI sequencing, rhythmic cuts are constructed entirely from volcanic, gnarled abstraction, eschewing typical genre elements.
Raw yet precise, from mayhem to menace, this is a album of strong contrasts from two American artists discovering common ground in the joy of frenzied cutting.

Following two groundbreaking albums ('Reproduction' and 'Travelogue'), the original line-up of Sheffield-based The Human League split in half in late 1980. The two primary musicians in the group, Martyn Ware and Ian Craig Marsh, formed a new production company - the British Electric Foundation (B.E.F.). The artists they were to produce would include Heaven 17, their own new band formed with vocalist Glenn Gregory.
This music was among the first recorded by Martyn and Ian directly after their departure from The Human League.

"MUSICAL OFFERING" demonstrates a 'musical' machine unlike any other and has long fascinated cutting edge, modern electronic composers, notably COIL and THE ANTI GROUP COMMUNICATIONS (TAGC) / CLOCK DVA, that have both released recordings utilising the ANS.

The first Sleep Research Facility release since 2012's "Stealth" (Cold Spring). Inspired by the deep sea ocean floor, the Canadian-based composer explores notions of awareness and perception in the sub/unconscious listener. The material was created specifically for this release.
Taking inspiration from the beautiful, but often harsh landscapes and environments of his home on Anglesey, North Wales, Llyn Y Cwn has built on the nautical theme of "Du Y Moroedd" (Cold Spring). These tracks are based on field recordings relating to the ocean, and could be seen as a companion piece to the album.

The new album from 400 LONELY THINGS, produced by WILLIAM BASINSKI, is a dark ambient, sample-based séance to the Banning Mill - a real-life decaying "mansion" and haven for artists, freaks and misfits in the backwoods of the American Deep South in the 1970s-1990s - and an extraordinary piece of art that lived there.
An archaeological excursion in found sound - wandering through the art and memory of a real place, "Mother Moon" is an origin story for 400 Lonely Things. An imaginary soundtrack to the many years of solitude Richard Scott Hill's Minotauress spent hanging in the musty, secret winding halls of Banning Mill.
Melancholic instrumentals with weathered sampling at its core.

Aetherium Nebula is the new dark ambient / drone project of Dan Barrett, also known as Worms Of The Earth. The aim of this project is to write deep, non-intrusive music for exploring dream and astral realms. The main focus is manifesting atmospheres inspired by the intersection of sadness, spirituality, and far future, cyberpunk science fiction.
"Glacialis Mundi" is a musical journey to a frozen world of eternal snowstorms, icy oceans, desolate plains, and ancient temples half-buried in snow. Beneath the surface of the planet lie frost-bitten tunnels containing the long-abandoned mechanical remnants of a forgotten civilisation.
"I have come upon the planet. Its only designation is an ambiguous code which identifies its coordinates in the vast, multi-layered matrix of space. Cursory scans show a dead world; there are no signs of living beings, sentient or otherwise. Perhaps some form of life dwelt here once but is now buried under an eternity of frost.
Immediately upon landing, my vessel is engulfed by the maw of the great white wall of snow. The roiling winds clatter viciously against the outer hull masking the deathlike silence of the abandoned world...".

 COLIN POTTER - 'Ago' LP (B.F.E. Records) - £18
Six hypnotic tracks from the archive of rarites of Colin Potter (Monos, Nurse With Wound, Fovea Hex), here on vinyl for the first time, perfect to play really loud.
An original and particular approach to rhythmic electronics, reminiscent of contemporaneous industrial dance / new beat / EBM / proto-techno. These six pieces were recorded between the late 80s & mid-90s at IC Studio, which was then located in Tollerton, North Yorkshire. "I wanted to make some tracks which were much more rhythmic. By then the studio was a 16-track and I had acquired more equipment for making sounds and changing sounds. There was an Akai S950 sampler, an Emulator II, Roland TR727 and Yamaha RX11 digital drum machines, a Roland Juno 60, and some new effects processors. I even, briefly, used an Atari for MIDI sequencing, but using a computer in the studio felt a bit weird in those days. Ironic really, given the situation now. There were a lot of new methods to learn and the tracks on this album were the result of some of these experiments, during which I also found ways of integrating the old analogue synths with the newer machines. Mixing was still done hands-on, in real-time, with alternative and often radically different takes being made of the same multi-track. Very different to the way things are done now". A deserved reissue of this 1985 masterpiece from Norway's Erik Wøllo, remastered and presented with renewed artwork. Berlin School synth sequences, American minimalism vibes, new age and oriental influences, guitar-synthesizers, genius arrangements... A masterpiece exploring the emerging MIDI technology of the time. A transportive selection of calming ambient soundscapes punctuated by glassy synth work and meditative drum patterns.
Acclaimed by many, including Steve Roach who said: "I heard Traces on vinyl back in the early 80s. It is still one of my top 10 albums. There is just an elegant, efficient, and emotional quality about it that just holds up like it was created today. A truly timeless piece of beauty".  GX JUPITTER-LARSEN - 'Ross Distracted' LP (Love Earth Music) - £22
New vinyl outing from GX Jupitter-Larsen, founder of The Haters - one of the earliest and most well-known acts in the modern noise scene, founded in 1979. "Much of what GX does is hidden in part a concept and a joke. However, you never know which is what, and that is its beauty, I suppose. "Ross Distracted" is no different in that respect... This is a noise record, with one piece per side, and it is the usual minimalism we have come come to expect and love from The Haters / GX. A mass of loops of a highly obscured nature, spinning together, phasing in and out of shape, and along the way, small sounds fly in and out of the mix... I love this record" (Vital Weekly).  JUAN BELDA - 'Juan Belda' LP (Abstrakce / B.F.E. Records) - £18
Reissue of the debut album from Juan Belda (also of New Wave acts Arte Moderno / África Gráfica), first released in 1986 by Grabaciones Accientales. Originally part of a multimedia concert called "Móviles", the record is a complex world of sounds blending rhythmic experimental electronics, industrial sounds, samplers, ambient-downtempo passages, loops, jazz, musique concrete... and everything from a punk-fluxus-existentialist approach. In the vein of other Spanish bands of the era like Randomize, Mecánica Popular, or international artists such as Cabaret Voltaire, Chris & Cosey, Thomas Leer, or Nurse With Wound. The record was produced by the Spanish composer Luis Carlos Esteban at his studio, with one of the largest Synth collections in Europe. Belda squeezed precious synths such as Yamaha cs80, Emulator 2, Linn 9000, Mini moog, DX7, PPG Wave, VCS 3, etc. with the help of Esteban to round his compositions. Canary Islander Belda is a composer, arranger, and multi-instrumentalist, recording since the early 80's with his new wave projects as well as solo works. Remastered by Damián Schwartz.  L'ECLIPSE NUE - 'Degradation Bliss' LP (Love Earth Music) - £20
New studio album - and first vinyl release - from the American industrial noise unit with its origins in Tokyo. "The sound from beginning to end has the massiveness you're looking for in noise, especially when it's on vinyl... It's harsh; it's noisy as hell, and there are constant changes everywhere. But for example, the use of vocal / samples in "Temple of Deformed Deities" and the rhythmic inclination through the use of percussive sounds creates maybe a bit of a ritual atmosphere while not being tribal or ritual at all. And it's a complete contrast to the 3m30 noise wall "Night Drive", which is still on the same side.
And the reverse side shows even more dynamics; "Exile in Ghetto Estatic" starts as an ultra-heavy noise drone and suddenly breaks down completely. The spaciousness that Daniel creates through this proves that extreme noise can be silence too. And to top it off, well, I won't use the word 'commercial', but if ever a noise track deserved to become a hit single, "Sister Went Dancing" comes as close as it gets. No, you can't dance to it, but we all know how the right track on the right volume triggers an inner rhythm that makes us move to things others can't hear" (Vital Weekly). Another recent studio album from the American industrial noise unit L'Eclipse Nue, which has its origins in Tokyo. Eight tracks (42 mins) of dark and depressive Industrial-Noise, ear-shattering feedback, and punch-in-the-chest harsh noise. "There are faces from the past for whom we yearn to see once more, and there are faces of those whose specters tower menacingly over the psyche long after they are gone: faces that visit us when we are alone and at our most vulnerable". Recorded by Daniel Sine during the long, isolating autumn of 2020. Ltd x 200 copies. |
 MASKHEAD - 'Force Of Submission' CD (Hiisi Productions) - £11.50
The second installment of Maskhead's S&M trilogy is finally unleashed! "Force Of Submission" is one raw 35-minute piece of slowly progressing noise sadism. Maskhead s an anonymous Finnish harsh noise project formed in 2015. The project uses self-made oscillators, effects and junk metal to get filthiest possible soundscapes to support the content of every release. Maskhead gets most of its inspiration from sleazy grindhouse movies, extreme behaviour and sexual fetishes.  MUSTA TOTEEMI - 'Pulssi' 2 x CD (Hiisi Productions) - £13.50
Musta Toteemi is Läjä Äijälä (Death Trip, The Kolmas, Sakset, Aavikon Kone Ja Moottori) and Toni Kandelin (Rope, SSRI, Kolmas Ilmestys!). The duo from Turku, Finland, continues its atmospheric dark journey on "Pulssi". The double album is full of hypnotic electronics, WASP rhythms and slowly growing electric whispers. One half leans towards deep rhythm, while the other sinks more into the spheres of crackles and hisses. Noise ambient / Industrial which is calmer and less urgent than many of the duo's other releases... but that doesn't mean less power, charge or energy. Gatefold digisleeve. |

Since its inception in 1994, Mystical Fullmoon is an entity that has undergone manyfold incarnations, slumbering in isolation for long cycles of time and unexpectedly surfacing again, each time spawning a different breed of darkness. Their sonic signature is a coagulation of black metal, classical influences and a permeating experimental tension, all cloaked in a grand vision of esoteric and occult research. This album from Chilean dystopian and philosophical muziek act Pyreficativm is a blackened magnificence. A sublime Dark RItual Ambient opus, anointed with the mercurial bleeding verb of the Daimonos, veiled by sinister cacophonies represented by magnolia petals. Beyond From the mountains of Ithaqua to the obscure hands of Shiva, the Bhavadaresh of the Gods illuminates the painful scourges to the primeval mass-gardens and poisoned phlegm. Rotten odyssey is embodied with the fundamental parameters of reverberations and oracular mysteries and dense alignment. Returning to dramatic musical schemes and dystopian curses, funeral mantras and minimalistic sonority orchestrated by coiled spirits. "Fallen Gods" was the third studio album by Rapoon aka Robin Storey, formerly of :zoviet*france:. Originally released in 1994, "Fallen Gods" builds on the haunting industrial ethers of the debut "Dream Circle" and the esoteric, rhythmic drone of the second album "Raising Earthly Spirits". It consolidates many of the sounds and disciplines that had shaped Storey's work up to this point, while indicating a newfound, concerted focus on classical Indian instrumentation; a synthesis of myriad ideas, rooted in the duality between modernity and mysticism.
These compositions form a deeply arresting body of work that is arguably considered one of Storey's finest works.
Across nine tracks Storey weaves together indeterminate, sonorous currents of ambient and experimental electronics with magnetic, sprawling passages of acoustic instrumentation, creating a profound work of entrancing, ritualistic minimalism. Comparisons could be drawn with the panoramic soundscapes of Lustmord, the fourth world ambitions of Jon Hassell, the heavy outernational psychedelia of Psychick Warriors ov Gaia but "Fallen Gods" illustrates an artist establishing their own trajectory, a distinct indication that Storey had moved way beyond :zoviet*france:. into the flourishing territories and intricate sound environments of the Rapoon project.  RUDOLF EB.ER / AWKWARD GEISHA - 'Maledicti' LP (Love Earth Music) - £22
"Awkward Geisha's 'Opera Of Death' is a side-long piece of power electronics. To that end, he uses bass voices and noise. The lengthy, crashing onslaught of distortion, wielding away as if there is no end, but with a few variations to the theme. These alternations are actually quite enjoyable. Like an engine revving up, amplified and distorted, there is beauty in decay... Eb.er's noise music is of an entirely different world. He uses field recordings and voice material, along with working with the frequencies, to emphasize or reduce particular parts. He places his material next to each other to create eerie sound collages. I hear these as a soundtrack to horror movies, dystopia or anything such as black. More than some of his other recent work, this one seems to work with more obvious looped material. That adds a more mechanical feeling to the music. Noise, as in loud, distorted work, this is not. On their first collaborative album, influential outsider artists Merzbow and Smegma traded source material through the mail to craft a mesmerizing mix of surreal-concrète electronics, handmade instrumentation, unconventional sound art, and hypnotic blast and clatter. Released during a staggering time of Merzbow's legendary output - the same year as "Pulse Demon", "Oersted", "Spiral Honey", and "Rainbow Electronics 2" - "Plays" stands alone as a stunning and idiosyncratic entry in both artists' discographies. Remastered and re-authored by John Wiese, the material is now presented for the first time as the artists envisioned: the material is carefully separated into a multitude of distinct tracks with the disc intended to be played on shuffle to create unique compositions and juxtapositions with every listen. Whalesong is an experimental collective and the main band of Michal Kielbasa (Grave of Love, Lugola, Harmony of Struggle, Nothing Has Changed etc). In their work one can find references to industrial, noise rock, no wave, drone, jazz and post rock. Their compositions attack with weight, dynamics and hypnotic phrases, crushing with the powerful, sometimes even overwhelming sound of guitars, accompanied by a tribal, mechanically hammered rhythms. The musicians use both classic "rock" and more unconventional instruments, from various types of percussion, such as: gong, cymbals, tubular bells, mellotron, and even everyday objects, elements from scrap metal, some pieces of sheet metal or circular saw. Featuring three additional tracks to the original six, "Avalanche Zone" is a weighty and abrasive follow-up to 2018's "Weapon Design" that is propelled by cranium-crunching bass, icy and portentous textures, battlefield rhythms and just the faintest nod to Anthony's love of both old school noise and more contemporary electronic music which refuses to compromise. A collection of rare recordings of St. Petersburg project Lunar Abyss Deus Organum, which traces its history back to 1998. For almost a quarter of a century its author Evgeniy Savenko has been weaving bizarre patterns of acoustic harmonies, shamanic incantations and electronic oscillations, creating multi-layered visions of dreams from parallel worlds. The first compilation of miscellaneous tracks, named "Uzor", was self-released in 2011 and contained compositions from 2002-04, while this new edition includes tracks from the later period of 2003-13. Some tracks were released on cult compilations, and others on very limited edition cassettes, but the rest are previously unreleased compositions, remixes and live recordings.
