Purba is a musical and theatre project formed in Moscow in 1996, with an impressive roster of current / ex-members including Alexey Tegin (Phurpa). Their music is based upon the ancient sacral ceremonies of the Bon tradition (the pre-Buddhist religion of Tibet), playing authentic Tibetan traditional instruments, using overtone singing as well as musique concrete, noise, electronic, drone, industrial and ritual performance.
"The age of the worldwide pandemic generates a corresponding response in humanity. Culture, art and ritual practices become susceptible to a widespread virus. It is not only a disease of the body, but also the impact on consciousness and the emergence of a certain pandemic ideology - pandemism.
The practices of the PURBA projects refute with their methods the subordination of this ideology. A sound tunnel with arising and disappearing noise objects and elements of pitch intervals a psychedelic barrage of pure industrial sound stream at a very high volume leading to a cleansing of the body of mental filth and vanity of existence a sonic nightmare and the inevitability of Bardo".
