Penitent's debut album "Melancholia" (originally released by Cold Meat Industry, 1996), is released in a new incarnation for this 30th anniversary edition. The music and instrumentation have been re-recorded, the lyrics have been rewritten (now in English), and there is fresh new artwork and mastering album.
An album of sad and sombre, but majestic Neoclassical synth music, which together with the spoken poetry awaken the most dark and depressive feelings. This album is dedicated to the memory of Marquis De Sade.
"What kind of emotions guides us when we feel the loss of hope and the whole life seems to be nothing but a mournful bridge over a river of tears? One has to live one's life, and bear all the pain and sorrows, sadness and depression. Fatal for the majority, these dark emotions may become the pleasure for the others and give them power to survive. The punishment will come and everybody will be punished one way or another. To await or to undergo this punishment is to be a Penitent".
For this album, Norway's Penitent was main man Karsten Hamre (aka Beastus Rex, who also records as Arcane Art, Dense Vision Shrine, Veiled Allusions etc) and Asbjørn B. Log (aka Azgoth).
