A unique compilation of Electronic, Minimal, Synth, Wave and Avantgarde music from former Yugoslavia.
The galloping technical progress in the second half of the last century dominated all spheres of daily life, art and culture. In the music industry machines took over the role of classical instruments, influenced by the global electronic phenomenon, producing bands like Depeche Mode, New Order, Soft Cell, Section 25, Silver Apples, Pierre Henry etc. What was going on in the music industry of former Yugoslavia, and at Jugoton, the biggest YU music label at that time? The answer is here.
Filling two double albums (Vol II, due in 2023, will go further back to pre-electronic music from 1964), "Electronic Jugoton - Synthetic music from Yugoslavia" was first released by Croatia Records (ex-Jugoton) in 2014 on a 2CD set with two and a half hours of material (47 songs, 35 performers). The brave and insightful creators of "Electronic Jugoton", veteran crate diggers Vixeslav Labox and Zeljko Luketic, have excelled at reconstructing the musical past of electronic music in Yugoslavia - provocative, exciting and progressive moments of pop, disco music, early rap, new wave, RnR, post-punk and industrial, but also pioneers of avant-garde electronic music.
Vol I. features: Laboratorija, D'Boys, Beograd, Data, Brazil, The Master Scratch band, DU DU A, Denis & Denis, U Skrupcu, Parlament, Dorian gray, Mato Dosen, H.C. Andersen, Hrvoje Hegedusic, Oliver Mandic, Sladana & Neutral Design, Amila, Tuzne Usi, Zana, Dubravka, Milka Lenac, Nicky, and Mladn Magdalenic & Mladn Kusec.
All tracks have been restored from the original master tapes by Labos and Luketic, who have also provided the insightful liner notes on each act. Gatefold sleeve.
