"Topology Of A Quantum City" was created using the original DATs from a 1992 session for Paul Schütze's album "New Maps Of Hell". He rebuilt the central piece from that album from its original component parts / rhythm track, sending that "spine" to the various contributing players (Daniel Pennie, Dirk Wachtelaer, Bill Macdonald, and Philip Brophy) and then performed a kind of surgery with the added drums, bass, guitar and trombone.
New tonalities and unexpected harmonic light and shade, with a radical rethinking of the rhythm blew the structure open, inviting multiple levels of dynamic detail. The two additional pieces have a newer origin; one with drum parts as the starting impetus around which was constructed a kind of melodic breath, laying multiple guitar lines into counterpoint; the second by atomising and refracting familiar gestures over a rolling machine rhythm. They feel like a temporal cross pollination to those familiar with their roots and perhaps a lure into a period of unheard riches to those who are yet to have that pleasure.
Digisleeve.
