Alan Bloor has been recording as Knurl for thirty years now and remains one of the most consistent harsh noise artists in the field. He has released music on pretty much every vital noise label since the 90's, incuding Deadline Recordings, Self Abuse, Spite, Xerxes, Troniks, Alien8, Phage Tapes, New Forces, Oxen, Absurd Exposition, Rural Isolation Project, and many others.

"Obtain By Sacrifice" is another solid entry in his vast discography, presenting seven tracks of amplified junk metal screech and, as Seymour Glass put it, "the saturated clang of pulverized metal grinding jagged holes into your neck like the most sarcastic tracheotomy lesson ever".

"While I was working in welding shops I used to love the sound of the grinders and the radial arm saw as it ripped through metal. [...] I've always been influenced by the environments I've worked in. I've always loved the sounds of banging, scraping, grinding. [...] I used to think it would be great to form a band that could play as loud and fast as a grinder grinding metal.
