• HORNORKESTERET - 'Jehovas Vinter' LP

Norway's Hornorkesteret reinvent the songs of their forefathers with the compositions on "Jehovas Vinter", their first studio album despite being formed by Jonas Qvale in 1999.

The group presents a dark, foggy and mystical folk music landscape with a collection of original tunes written by them. Elements of folk rock, Scandinavian traditional music and sinister "popular" music are heard through the interweaving string horn melodies (reindeer antlers and moose skull) and ritualistic drums (timpani, rototoms, bells, wood), with mandolin on the title track.

"The melancholia and dissonance of Hornorkesteret makes me think of some kind of undead New Orleans marching band at a funeral ('Jehovas vinter'), while songs like 'Den sorgfulle sjaman' conjures images of a bunch of psychotic laplanders… In other words, very strange, very disturbing, and very cool" (Mortiis).

Black vinyl with cover paintings by Jonas Qvale.
