But I'm Not (Pawel Grabowski) uses field recordings, found sounds, objects, and processed live instruments to create nightmarish, meditative, and immersive dark ambient / electroacoustic soundscapes. "This album is about trauma and PTSD. The music portrays the emotional loop... the continuous reminiscing about the traumatic event, the never-ending anxiety and paralyzing panic attacks... from which a traumatized person simply cannot escape. I call this state the daemon trance (and, unfortunately, I know it far too well...)". Pawel Grabowski has released music on such labels as Drone Records, Mystery Sea, and Cronica. CLUSTER LIZARD - 'Prophecy' CD (Prostir) - £11.50

Second album from Berlin-based Cluster Lizard - Dmytro Fedorenko (Kotra) & Kateryna Zavoloka - with track titles taken from poetry by William Blake, Lesya Ukrainka, Lex Gigeroff, Arthur Rimbaud, and Lord Byron. "Modern music redefined by the fusion of electronica, classical and the continued industrial noise breakdown. In this mix there is this reckoning of how to reshape minimal techno. There are erasures, blurs and elongations of a would-be funky core, distorted so you may witness the detritus in its wake. They offer an odd blend of brute tribalism and retro effects. It is a sound that divides any typical perspective of rational outcomes. When you think things will get smooth, they uptick into a short-lived frenzy, when you count on quiet the duo diverts to an intoxicating overtone of rhythm" (Toneshift). CLUSTER LIZARD - 'Star Corsair' CD (Prostir) - £11.50

An imaginary soundtrack to the book "Star Corsair" by Ukrainian science fiction writer, philosopher, and dissident Oles' Berdnyk, with artwork inspired by the cover art of the 1971 edition. The reading of "Star Corsair" turned into an in-depth study of a unique phenomenon in Ukrainian spiritual, art, and political space. An incredible concentration of powerful ideas, subtly set on multi-level spirals of a modelled future, intersected with the myth-created past, in projections of bright explosions and degradations of societies and civilizations; in the unconditional possibility of impossible revolutions and eternal deep struggle with systems; in the fire and explosions of liberation ignited by the freethinkers. "Deep and dark electronica. One could imagine the production of Star Corsair evolving in a room full of huge modular synths, lights pulsing while two dark figures loom over the machines, pressings keys and turning dials. DEISON / TONIZZO - 'Una Notte Che Non Finisce Mai' CD + Book (1970 / Silentes) - £19

Dark drones and heavy atmospheres, shimmering with tension. "Una Notte Che Non Finisce Mai" (A Night That Never Ends) is made up of eight short stories written by Sandra Tonizzo, and eight sound episodes created by Deison, telling the incredible story of the "Monster of Florence" through suggestions, chronicles, impressions and memories. "It often happens that crime stories are able to influence the larger history that surrounds them, but very few are those that managed to change aspects of society and pass through more than five decades unharmed, at least in terms of fascination. The story of the Monster of Florence is one of them. It is impossible not to get entangled or at least to be captured by it, if one delves into its pages of far-fetched features and too many unanswered questions. For us, as for many, the case of the Monster of Florence has become an obsession. We periodically dusted it off, racking our brains in vain over details or the possible culprit. This time, 40 years after the crimes that started the psychosis of the infamous couple killer, we told ourselves that we had to somehow get rid of it and we did it our way". FABIO ORSI - 'Memory Of A Safe Place - Ultra Collector's Edition' LP (13 / Silentes) - £35

ONE PER CUSTOMER ONLY!

Ultra limited collector's edition of this long sold out 2013 album. Fabio Orsi sits among the most interesting names of the European electronic scene, balancing experimentation and melody, sounding intimate and abstract at the same time, using drones of a concrete and electronic nature, acoustic instruments, field recordings, synthesizers and computer treatments for his compositions. "Memory Of A Safe Place" consists of two long drone-based pieces that slowly build from a distant low frequency humming. "Part 1" has a dream-like quality and is one of those numbers suspended in eternity that could easily last forever, a truly healing experience; with its rhythmic elements fading in along the road. "Part 2" is more down-to-earth, so to speak, though if it reminds the listener of the German Cosmic Couriers of the Seventies. A work for Ambient Music fans, Post-Kraut lovers, Hypnagogic dreamers and the Eternal Drone explorers.

FABIO ORSI - 'Reverse Diverse' CD (13 / Silentes) - £12

An album of sublime workmanship, developed by one of the finest Italian experimental artists in the broadest sense. Over the years Fabio Orsi has explored in every direction, with the uncommon ability to always go "beyond", renewing himself, seeking new sounds and new forms of expression, without ever completely abandoning the main path from which he began his long journey many years ago. On "Reverse Diverse", he combines sounds and musical openings that are at times almost symphonic with programmed rhythmic structures of great impact and effectiveness, with moments of strong impact and drama alternating with moments of more reflective stillness and introspection. Ambient Electronic music which draws its greatest inspiration from the Berlin School; but this is only a general indication, because Fabio Orsi has been able to catch every bud of that experience, to then expand and develop it in a very personal way, integrating it with all the other influences that until today have contaminated his appreciated artistic / musical past. GIANLUCA BECUZZI - 'Mana' 2 x CD (St.An.Da. / Silentes) - £15.50

"Becuzzi erects some severe guitar wall of noise here. Coupled with the slow, pounding rhythms, this is a form of noise rock or ambient metal. This music can only be played very loud, and only then it makes sense... Becuzzi has the aggression of a one-man orchestra, thunderous and silent - another duality. Think Penderecki and Feldman, but set for guitar, amplifiers and distortion pedals" (Vital Weekly). "In anthropology, the concept of mana identifies a supernatural impersonal power. It manifests itself through men as power or superiority, bestowed upon them by spirits... In this work, the search for a maximalist and minimalist form at the same time allowed me to make experience of two coexisting conditions of art: presence and absence. Affirmation and denial. Power and lightness. The ostentation and the subtraction... an ethical and aesthetic rebellion that draws on an inscrutable and sacred strength. Music is my mana. Art is our hope" (Gianluca Becuzzi). GIGI MASIN - 'Plays Venezia' CD (St.An.Da. / Silentes) - £12

Reissue of the CD which accompanied the "Venezia 2016" photographic book / CD over five years ago. Renowned musician Gigi Masin composed a 30-minute epic ambient track entitled "Venezia 2016" which was the perfect soundtrack to the images included in the book. Unavailable since that original publication, Gigi Masin has now returned to that great piece of music and to its timeless sounds. "Plays Venezia" contains a re-edited version of that pearl, accompanied by an unreleased tracks composed and recorded in the same period - with a further 32-minute track on this CD edition. Once again inspired by the city of Venice at night, Masin created an enduring and wonderful ambient masterpiece, a sort of return to the origins, to his home. Adding to the intrinsic quality of the originals, the tracks were beautifully mastered by Brandenburg Mastering in Amsterdam. An unmissable release and one of Masin's greatest accomplishments in a long carrier that never ceases to amaze. Mini-LP style sleeve, with printed inner sleeve featuring a reimagining of the original art by Stefano Gentile.

LHAM - 'Leaving Hardly A Mark' CD (13 / Silentes) - £12

"Leaving Hardly A Mark" is the debut album of the LHAM project, behind which lies the Italians Giuseppe Verticchio (Nimh, Hall of Mirrors, Twist of Fate) and Bruno De Angelis (Mana Erg). Cinematic and strongly evocative atmospheres are painted with the use of electronic instrumentation, guitars, bass and effects, following stylistic paths on the borderline between ambient music, moderate experimentation and subliminal World / ethno-ambient veins. Delicate sound watercolours, moments of stasis, pulsations, suggestive and more driving melodic inserts alternate in drawing an eclectic and varied musical universe, which draws from influences of a very different nature, here collected and synthesised in a highly personal and original form. This cross-continental collaboration was created in the early months of 2021. The recordings took place in Voronezh, Russia and Fairport Harbor, USA. Two expansive dark ambient rituals (26+ mins apiece) featuring ORD ERR on Flute, Singing Bowls, Voice, Cymbals, Bells, Tambourines, Percussion and Metal Spring; and Stephen Petrus on Bone Horn, Field Recordings, Bowed Strings, Kalimba, Voice, Piano, Steel Barrel and Synth. VARIÁT - 'I Can See Everything From Here' LP (Prostir) - £23

Variát is the new Noise / Industrial Metal project of Dmytro Fedorenko (Kotra, Cluster Lizard). "Sonic overload... That is brutal beats and synthesizers. That brutality is also present here, but now he's using instruments... Loops of guitar noise and drums (and bass, no doubt) battle against a solitary non-looped organ. The information recalls the use of "blown amps, toms played with a

hammer, and drilled cymbals", all of which I can easily see within the context of this record. One of the things this record is not is a dance record... The fact that Fedorenko makes a radical break with his past music, and yet, for all the brutal approach, at the same time, he stays completely in line with his past. I find that quite an achievement. The wall of noise rock approach with real instruments, treated with electronic devices, sampled and giving them more strength via sound effects, makes these eight pieces strong music statements. Music that needs to be played loud... There is no escape, and total surrender is required, but something beautiful will be yours" (Vital Weekly). VÄXTFOLKET - 'Refactorització Cognitiva' CD (Auditive Abstraction) - £11.50

Växtfolket is the debut album of Catalan artist Oriol Paré. The process of exploring memories through art. The act of externalisation. A sonic attempt at reorganisation or refactoring personal memories, life experiences, and changes by fragmenting and erasing the partial teachings considered unnecessary or redundant. "...a cool combination of drones, noises, micro and macro sounds, orchestral clusters, sometimes of industrial / lo-fi flavor... Three long tracks, 22:30 minutes long, each creating an impressive atmosphere of changing moods and densities - from dark and even scary, especially in the current surreal situation of the biological and humanitarian absurdity around us, to rather bright and optimistic... At the same time, these compositions, conceptually based on so-called 'mental information' or brain data, produced by human functions and individual activities, could make you more concentrated on the sound itself, with a wide variety of textures, dynamics and sonic spaces" (Data Wave). ZAVOLOKA - 'Ornament' LP RED (Prostir) - £20

Seventh solo album from Kateryna Zavoloka (Cluster Lizard). Ornament: an information carrier and a coding element for a unique and complex algorithm that modulates the state, space, intention, and path. Embroidery technique: a conscious coding ritual, where the intention is modelled by both external forms and internal structures of ornament symbols. An embroidered structure - geometrical and sonic - is a set of energies, generating and conducting a harmonious path and destiny, where both holding the same harmony principles of the sacred process of the cryptography of the heart. Feel the high frequencies, while perceiving the low pulsations. It is the contrast between slow and fast energies, where balance is the key. It is the conscious ritual of awareness with pure thoughts to create the unique. "A great production of minimal electronic treatments and poignant atmospheres driven by slow rhythms. I like the Industrial sound treatments injecting an extra dark and unpolished touch to the work. The title song is a great exposure of this visionary artist, but I also have to mention "Obriad" and "Tanok" both moving towards a transcendental apotheosis. VARIOUS ARTISTS - 'Anthology Of Electronic Music From Scandinavia' CD (Unexplained Sounds) - £12

The electronic music emanating from the Scandinavian region encompasses a vast universe and has a long tradition behind it. In 1964 the electronic music studio EMS in Stockholm opened as a conventional analogue studio, its primary intention being to build the world's most advanced hybrid studio and to conduct an international research program into sound and sound perception. Since then the Scandinavian electronic music scene has continued to flourish decade upon decade, culminating in the most recent ambient and minimalistic sound shapes. USG started researching Scandinavian electronic and experimental music in 2015 with the "Scandinavian Experimental Underground 015 Survey". A second anthology was released 2016, its remit being much wider than the first, entitled "Northern Lights - The Scandinavian Experimental 016 Survey". Both were published in digital format only, but finally a CD edition containing a selection of 12 tracks from those compilations now emerges into the light. A fantastic tribute to an experimental electronic music scene that is still evolving and growing, the Unexplained Sounds network continuing to chart its ever-expanding boundaries as the future unfolds. VARIOUS ARTISTS - 'Anthology Of Persian Experimental Music (2nd Edition)' CD (Unexplained Sounds) - £12

2nd Edition of the CD version of the previously only digital "Persian experimental underground survey", one of the most recognised anthologies focusing on experimental and alternative music from Iran (1st Ed, 2019). Music is imprinted into Persian culture pre-dating Islam by more than 1400 years. By the time of its arrival in Iran in the 7th century, Persians had already developed the core of the theoretical framework of music of Middle Eastern origin still valid to this day. The 12th Century represented a point of departure as Sufism penetrated Persian culture and poetry became intertwined with music. For many centuries Indonesia, from the Malay Peninsula throughout the vast archipelago, has been subjected to successive foreign cultural invasions (Mongolian, Indian, the Western 'Civilization'), which have left their deep imprint on the indigenous way of life. The cultural diversity is naturally reflected in the music. In the current globalized and digital communications-dominated era, influences from the Western world become more and more evident, in everyday life, as well in popular art and music from Indonesia. But listening to the tracks included in this compilation, you'll discover how traditional Indonesian music, even in its more 'primitive' forms, as well in the very elaborate and developed ones from Javanese and Balinese tradition, are still very much recognizable.
