SsynthesizerrrEverrrrrrrr' LP (Meakusma) - £23

Charlemagne Palestine's full performance on the organ of the Friedenskirche, Eupen for the reihe-M showcase at the Meakusma Festival 2019. Palestine conjures up his dense definition of maximized minimalism, introducing the performance with a minimalist drone and himself singing on top. His voice touches upon melancholy and the absurd and gives the piece context and direction. From there on, anything goes. The piece develops while complex layerings of chords and musical sentiments shift in and out of focus, yet all take center stage all the time. Ending the piece, Palestine excitedly shouts out that the organ is still the best synthesizer ever made. In typical Palestine fashion, his performance made the whole church resonate, an effect that can be repeated easily when listening at home, because this record demands volume and lots of it. Brooklyn-born Charlemagne Palestine has long been hailed as one of the originators of modern minimalist and experimental music. He very firmly describes his music as maximalist. ELECTRIC URANUS & X-NAVI:ET - 'Voices Of Cosmos III' CD (Beast Of Prey / Eter) - £11

A unique music and astronomical project from Poland, which uses original records from outer space, along with electronic instruments, both digital and analogue, and various acoustic objects to create dark ambient soundscapes. This third part of the series by Electric Uranus and X-Navi:Et (Rafal Iwanski of Hati, Kapital, Innercity Ensemble) uses original signals and sounds of extraterrestrial origin (pulsars, planetary magnetospheres, the Sun, aurora borealis), obtained via radio telescopes and other radio devices. Archival recordings from space missions and signals from outer space were also used. Instrumental tracks are blended with the rhythms and tones of the "sounds of the cosmos". The Voices Of The Cosmos project has been recognised and supported by the scientific community (Nicolaus Copernicus University, Polish Astronomical Society) and their audiovisual concerts were extended with lectures in the field of astronomy and sky observations (including Torun Science and Art Festival, Astronomy Center UMK, Piwnice; Centrum Hewelianum, Gdansk; Ambient Festival, Gorlice; Skyway Festival, Center for Contemporary Art, Torun; BWA City Gallery, Bydgoszcz, Planetarium and Astronomical Observatory, Grudziadz). ESCAPE FROM WARSAW - 'Korozje' CD (Zoharum) - £11.50

Hardware strikes of acid electro and guerrilla electronics fuelled by delirious ramblings of a madman concerning Polish reality, politics, counter-culture and beyond. The album consists of tracks that were originally recorded as Street City Nomad (a pre-EFW project) between 2006-2010, plus newer compositions. Samples and references are made to figures like Bukowski, Kerouac, and characters known from Polish punk / counter-culture. The music itself is raw and uncompromising. Among the 14 songs you'll find danceable tracks, and also ones that will make you stand still for a while and question reality and corruption. The cover art by Karol Su/Ka himself features six unsettling graphics which could serve as an idea for LSD blotter. Leave the fear behind and expect the unexpected. A reissue of Cisfinitum & First Human Ferro's 2012 album "Alchemicals", with additional bonus material recorded in 2010-2011, featuring Mykhail A.Shukh, James Thirlwell (FOETUS), Sergei Letov, Thierry Jolif, and Peter Smirnov. A masterpiece of the modern classical style in an existential avant-garde electronic genre, now standing at over 74 minutes. In memory of Mykhail A.Shukh (1952-2018). HIV+ - 'Theatre Of Cruelty' CD (Unknown Pleasures Records) - £12

A tribute to the French poet, novelist, actor and playwright Antonin Artaud (1896-1948), featuring Marc Hurtado (Etant Donnés), Marc Caro (director of cult films such as Delicatessen and The City of Lost Children), guitarist Alice Botté, Phil Von (Von Magnet), Emmanuel Hubaut (Tétines Noires), and Barkosina (Years Of Denial). Antonin Artaud was a critic of conformity, an enemy of convention, and a member of the Surrealists. Trapped by his own madness, he left behind an incandescent literary oeuvre of unparalleled verbal and symbolic power, infusing vibrant emotions, visionary philosophical reflection, indomitable verve and savage discourse into each of his texts. The lucidity with which he described his mental illness and tried to contain his visible delusions through art therapy allowed him to experiment in the asylum, leading to an atheistic form of Ecstatic Passion. Never has a writer documented and witnessed so well the situation of a person suffering from deep depression, depersonalisation and behavioural disorders. Re-reading his complete works during the pandemic, Pedro decided to revive his HIV+ power-noise project and compose a new uncompromising album to pay homage to this immense provocative genius. Recorded while in seclusion and only with old Korg synthesizers, industrial sequences and shredded tapes. Ltd x 300 copies n a digipak.

JARL - 'Hyperacusis' CD (Zoharum) - £11.50

With "Hyperacusis", Sweden's Eric Jarl (IRM, Skin Area) gravitates towards the drone void as he explores and sonically interprets this rare hearing disorder. The album consists of 2 lengthy (over 21 minutes each), trance-inducing tracks that put you into a sedative state. Drones, high frequency pulsations and oscillations work here as an intronautic vessel in which you descend into the depths of subconscious and as much as we are aware that this is a bold statement the closest comparison that comes to mind is Coil's "Time Machines". At first this appears to be a demanding piece of work but it's utterly rewarding. Turn your mind off. Ltd x 250 copies in a 6-panel digpak.

LITURGIA MALEFICARUM - 'Totus Tuus' CD (A Fine Day To Die Records) - £10.50

Extreme doom metal / black ambient / dungeon synth from Italy's Adam Van Maledict (ex-New Processean Order). This release compiles tracks from the band's rare self-released CDR "Ecclesia Incuborum" (Ltd 66 copies), and the even rarer split 2015 cassette with Fungi From Yuggoth (Ltd 47 copies). A bleak and necrotic journey of sinister putrefying anguish exhaled in the form of demented and doom-laden drone, blackened ambient, dark ritualistic Black Metal and haunting synth lines. NNHMN - 'Deception Island' CD (Zoharum) - £11.50

"Deception Island" is a compilation of tracks taken from vinyl EPs titled Deception Island Part 1 and 2 respectively, released by Spanish label Oráculo Records in 2020. The duo of Lee and Michal Laudarg deliver hell of a ride: Dark Wave, Synth Pop, EBM, New Romantic, Dark Disco. The spirit of '80s nostalgia is strong throughout. From the first synths of 'In Darkness' to the last beats of 'Nachtgang', NNHMN ("non-human") keeps you enslaved on the dancefloor. The track order has been slightly rearranged so the compilation has more of an album feel. The restless dance of the endless night, watching the stars... SAVAGE & SPIES - 'Human Centipede' O.S.T. LP (AMS Records) - £32

The soundtrack of one of the most sinister, disturbing, controversial and original horror films of the last 20 years is finally available on a physical format! Ten electro-acoustic pearls drawing the ear's eye into richly illusive fractal patterns with heavily psychedelic effect, lurking in the low key and peripheral, spectral and metaphysical realms. "The Human Centipede" is a film conceived, produced and directed by Dutch director Tom Six, which tells the story of the wicked Doctor Heiter, a manic German surgeon who kidnaps three people with the aim of surgically sewing them together to form a 'human centipede'. The sinister and spine-chilling electronic soundtrack created by Patrick Savage and Holeg Spies perfectly reflects the morbid atmosphere of a film that "occupies a world where the stars don't shine". SYNTA[XE]RROR - '[ . ] DOT' CD (Zoharum) - £11.50

Synta [XE] rror is a duo of Bartosz "Kostia" Jakubicki and Artur "Blacha" Blaszczyk hailing from Wroclaw in southern Poland. The project came to life in the late '90s, with their first two albums being released on War Office Propaganda (now Rage In Eden) and Ars Benevola Mater. Among the tracks of the album Kostia and Blacha present their skills of sound design and quite intricate arrangements. Artificial sounding and non-obvious rhythms are enriched by very emotional, melodic pads and synths giving a great impression of symbiosis of man and machine. The album recalls the early 2000's IDM sound in a great way, bringing back memories of projects like Gridlock or Somatic Responses of Hymen fame - cold and synthetic on one side, warm and very humane on the other. TROUM - 'DA-PU-RI-TO-JO (The Singles 2004-2016)' CD (Zoharum) - £11.50

Troum is the brilliant drone duo of Glit[S]ch and Baraka[H] (ex-Maeror Tri). This is a collection of tracks taken from 7" singles (and one digital-only EP) that were released through the years 2004-2016. The drone masters offer 12 dreamscapes that range from soothing, ethereal and meditative through emotional and mysterious to dark, industrialesque and nightmarish. Troum takes us on a journey to the farthest corners of human psyche, from heaven to hell and back. If you’re a fan of Troum it's a great opportunity to have these lesser known tracks in one place. If you're about to become one, it's a great way to start your journey into the depths of subconscious. VEDAN KOLOD - 'The Dance Of The Wood Spirits' CD (FireStorm Production) - £11.50

The second album from the powerful Slavic shamanic act, originally released in 2007. Vedan Kolod shows the musical culture of ancient and medieval Russia, when instrumental music was closely intertwined with vocal tradition with modern acoustic arrangement. The name of the group in Old-Slav means "the prophetic tree". The repertoire of Vedan Kolod includes original songs based on Old Russian language, authentic and folklore songs of the Siberian people, myths and legends of Western Russia, discovered by the ensemble members in numerous ethnographic expeditions throughout deep Russian regions, namely Central Siberia and Altai. Based on thorough research, musicians recreate authentic sound of old Pre-Christian Slav culture to great details, which include now extinct Old-Slavonic dialect of the region, genuine vocal technique and authentic musical instruments, found in archaeological excavations and recreated by Valerii Naryshkin; Slavic instruments such as the war horn, hornpipe, bagpipes, drums, gusli, hurdy-gurdy and others. Vedan Kolod perform not only the actual folklore songs, but also compose their own instrumental compositions and songs on old folklore texts. VOICES OF THE COSMOS - 'Interstellar Space' LP (Gusstaff) - £23

A unique music and astronomical project from Poland, which uses original records from outer space, along with electronic instruments, both digital and analogue, and various acoustic objects to create dark ambient soundscapes. For "Interstellar Space" VOTC used genuine radio telescope maser sonifications (Institute of Astronomy, Torun), aurora sounds (The University Of Iowa) and 47 Tucanae Pulsars sounds (Jodrell Bank, Cheshire). Voices Of The Cosmos (Electric Uranus and X-Navi:Et) would not have been be possible without the achievements of modern astronomy. Outer space with the necessary technological support to convert radio waves into acoustic waves is full of the source of sound phenomena: noises, vibrations, pulsations, shreds of melody, grunts, as well as chaotic and mysterious sounds, often difficult to determine. VOTC uses original signals and sounds of extraterrestrial origin (pulsars, planetary magnetospheres, the Sun, aurora borealis), obtained via radio telescopes and other radio devices. X-NAVI:ET - 'Machina Nova' CD (Beast Of Prey) - £11

X-Navi:Et is Rafal Iwanski (Hati, Kapital, Innercity Ensemble, Voices Of The Cosmos). "Machina Nova" contains 12 pieces: 6 premiere compositions making up the new mini-album "Machina Nova", plus 6 additional bonus tracks which made up the "Vox Paradox" tape, originally released in 2015 (Wounded Knife). Both of these mini-albums have combine electronic sounds with acoustic instruments, with more or less processed ethnic instruments: Chinese flute hulusi, Russian balalaika, melodica, various rattles, drums and objects. Guests on the tracks include Anna Zielinska (violin), Wojciech Jachna (trumpet), Radek Dziubek (electronics), and Marcin Zyglarewicz (bass guitar). X-NAVI:ET - 'Technosis' CD (Instant Classic) - £11

"Technosis" expands a clear vision of electro-acoustic music using some African and Eurasian traditional instruments. "Technosis" is a term describing an overblown attachment to, or dependency to technology... the loss of empathy and personality due to overuse of new technologies. This term can also relate to other destructive phenomena that we can observe for example in our environment all over the planet. Technological growth is currently overwhelming and so are its effects. "If we are discussing electro-acoustic music, we need to stress that its roots are also stuck in technology but I prefer analogue devices, at least in terms of generating sounds or modulating those recorded via microphones. I don't use laptops and I don't intend to do so. Otherwise I would be forced to refrain from calling my live performances 'concerts'. I really enjoy those small mistakes that are always connected to playing real instruments... Imperfection is what makes us human". Composed on acoustic instruments and electronic devices: bodhran (Irish frame drum), bendir (Moroccan frame drum), mbira (South African lamellophone), zummara (Egyptian double clarinet), hulusi (Chinese flute), shanti chimes, bells, metal objects, bows, spring drums, rattles, horns, voice, tone generator, effects, condenser microphone, contact microphones and more. No field recordings, samples, synths or drum machines were used. 6-panel digipak.

YASNAÏA - 'Oniro' 2 x CD (Zoharum) - £15

An extended 2CD reissue of the classic album of dark rites, rhythmic tribalism and ethereal psychedelia, previously released by World Serpent in 1996. Yasnaïa (aka Leen Smets) was also vocalist of Hybryds until her departure in 2000. She takes us on a great journey through many states of consciousness and dimensions. Her haunting and hypnotising voice guides us through 10 tracks of chants and incantations, keeping us captivated to the very end. A sexual energy channelled in rhythm, driven magical tribalism. Exclusive to this release is a second CD containing a live performance recorded at Wolfsmond, Munich in August 1997 giving you a pretty good impression of how the whole ritual conducted by Yasnaïa might sound and look like. The CD ends with 3 tracks, two of which were previously released on 7" vinyl courtesy of Ant-Zen and Spectre (Nexus) and a third which was previously unreleased. ALFARMANIA - 'At Ulleråker' CD (Old Captain) - £11

Reissue of an early tapework by Alfarmania - a classic in the field of death industrial / power electronics. Post-mortem depravity from northern Sweden's Kristian Olsson (Blood Ov Thee Christ / Survival Unit). A concept release dealing with the personal and collective hell inside Swedish mental asylum Ulleråker. Over 68 minutes of music brimming with insanity, negative emotional charge and filthy technocratic dizziness, crafted with primitive tools. Ulleråker drags you down into the black waters of its abysmal vortex. The title track was originally released on a cassette by Styggelse (2005). The second track, "Spännbädden", is a previously unreleased tape, recorded in 2006. Recorded on a Tascam 244 in Sundsvall and Uppsala. Artwork and layout by Olsson. Ltd x 200 copies in a digipak.

ALFARMANIA - 'From Fix To Fix' CD (Old Captain) - £11

To satisfy our ever-present addiction to raw, honest and in-yer-face music, Old Captain reissues the remastered debut from Alfarmania: "From Fix To Fix", finally available on CD. Originally produced by Proiekt Hat's Hatband label as a limited (x45) and now sought-after cassette. Kristian Olsson's initiation delivers a fix of high-caliber post industrial art into modern knock-kneed digital limbo. Leave reality behind and enter the narcosis before the overdose. CELER & DIRK SERRIES - 'Background Curtain' CD (Zoharum) - £11.50

Four years in the making, "Background Curtain" is a collaboration between the legend of the ambient underground Dirk Serries (Fear Falls Burning, Vidna Obmana) and Will Long of Celer, dynamically developing his style for over 10 years. This album was developed over 4 years of sending each other recordings. Long sent Dirk a long track of collaged, stretched tape pieces... Dirk sent Long some tracks that he had made while listening to the piece. Using that original track that Long sent Dirk at the very beginning as a sound source, he shaped it exactly like Dirk's responding source file; the musical colour and frequencies were the same, but the effects and enveloping was triggered by the waves of Dirk's track. Where does one thing begin and another end? Ltd x 300 copies in a 6-panel ecopak designed by Rutger Zuydervelt (Machinefabriek) based on a photograph by Will Long (Celer).

CLOAMA - 'Embargoed' CD (Freak Animal) - £11

Latest album from industrial / ambient artists active for 20 years. "Embargoed" is a good continuation from "Municipality Of Marionettes" or "At The Mountains Of Paranoia", but still expands the atmosphere and gloomy industrial soundscapes wider. Impressive gloomy post-industrial soundscapes from a wide variation of sound sources. Eventually tracks move closer to those two past albums, including eerie guitar-drone and synth oscillations as well as subtle synthesizer pulsations combined with ethereal female chants. A highly atmospheric and experimental full length which certainly belongs with the very best of Cloama!

DESIDERII MARGINIS - 'Thaw' CD (Zoharum) - £11.50

Of the Swedish wave of Dark Ambient acts from the 1990s, Desiderii Marginis is one of the few still active and definitely one of the finest. Desiderii Marginis has created and developed its own unique sonic palette merging digital and analogue: melancholic electronica with electroacoustic elements and intravenous rhythms. Over the course of 20 years, Johan Levin released 7 full-length albums (Cold Meat Industry, Cyclic Law, Kaosthetik Konspiration). His latest offering entitled "Thaw" compiles the compilation appearances and adds 3 tracks from the "Lost Signals From Unknown Horizons" split (Beast Of Prey, 2004). On the one hand, it is simply a collection of rare tracks, but, on the other, it may serve a purpose of a "best of" album. With the chronology unaltered, it gives you the full picture of the project and its progress. It is a history lesson of the last 20 years in sonic melancholia of Desiderii Marginis. HAARE - 'Destroy Facism, Love Forever' 6 x CD Boxset (Industrial Recollections / Freak Animal) - £46

Destroy Fascism, Love Forever! Celebrating 20 years of psychedelic noise. Since 1999, Finnish artist Haare has been released a multitude of now-collectable works - from lo-fi harsh noise beginnings via death industrial, primitive horror ambient, organic drones and occult metal junk rituals. Haare have built their own style of psychedelic noise. Unique and ever-changing psychedelic noise from Ilkka Vekka. "Psychedelic funeral drones" spread over two huge tracks. Hallucinogenic streaks of flighty harsh noise boil over brimstone. The opener is a longform ambient / minimal piece, but the title track is a noisier affair, focusing on power electronics, drones and distortion.

KRISTIAN OLSSON - 'Att Vara Där Jag Var Innan Jag Var Jag' CD (Old Captain) - £11

The much acclaimed debut LP of Kristian Olsson (Alfarmania / Blood Ov Thee Christ / Survival Unit) is now available on CD. Originally released in 2010 on the Swedish label Nattmaran, "Att Vara Där Jag..." contains 10 tracks making for a neck-breaking journey down a rabbit hole paved with rusty metal, the only light coming from cobwebbed, broken lead glass windows... a never-ending fall into a bottomless pit of despair. The acoustics are a bit clearer than Olsson's trademark style, but expect nothing less than a relentless 43-minute gut-punch with an iron-clad skeleton fist. Recordings were made with the expert operation of the usual electronic nightmare arsenal of the Styggelse satanic whore-lord, in addition to thighbone flutes, bowed cymbals, metal barrels, chains, whips, and just about every other abominable material or implement this filth-pig heathen could assemble from the recesses of his anti-human haunts. Olson crushes expectations and excels through outright excellence. Ltd x 250 copies in a digipak with two limited edition postcards put into random packs.

KSNK - 'KSNK' CD (Freak Animal) - £11

KSNK is one of those names from Finland some people may have heard, but very few are lucky to own the tapes - especially the latter tape, which is the main part of this CD. It was basically sold face to face in a couple Finnish noise shows to those who knew to ask the artist who may have them in his pocket. KSNK's approach is in some ways traditional to Finnish noise - yet also purely unique. On the surface it may appear as as yet another metal junk and feedback abuser, yet the way KSNK uses these elements is unlike anyone else in Finland. Vocals, obscure musical structures, minimal unprocessed sounds, field and site recordings create eerie and disturbing atmospheres. One has to go through painful moments to be blown up by heavy bolts of more constructed noise works. With a nod to the original handmade tapes, the artwork has slices torn off it.

PHURPA - 'Chöd' 2 x CD (Zoharum) - £15

Moscow shamans Phurpa return with completely new material. It perfectly shows the strength of their music based on "rgyud-skad" singing, meditation and the use of traditional instruments, often made of human bones. Chöd (Tibetan: "being cut off") is the practice of sacrificing the body. To actively participate in meditation we invite not only enlightened beings, but also the residents of the six realms of existence, including the essence of hell and all the spiritual "filth" there is, all possible demons. They just have to be the main beneficiaries of the sacrifice made, and the body of the meditator becomes their food. Traditionally, this practice was carried out in desolate and lonely places, and often even frightening - in the fields of cremation and burial grounds near the dismembered corpses and wild animals preying on them. The practitioners of chöd were called crazy yogis. The musical trance introduces listeners into the state of meditation. A 90-minute monolith in two scenes. Ltd x 400 copies in a 6-panel ecopak.

RAPOON - 'The Fires Of The Borderlands' 2 x CD (Zoharum) - £15

Rapoon's masterpiece "The Fires Of The Borderlands" is arguably his best known work. Long out-of-print and much sought after, this classic has now received a well-deserved expanded reissue treatment. Evocative ambient sonic textures, generating images of desert lands somewhere in uncharted countries in Africa or Middle East suspended in time. It is a chronicle of those lands which was found buried in the scorching sands. You can almost feel the texture of it in every second of this album which conjures up ghosts of people from those lands with writhing snakes at their feet. Disc 1 is the main album which is mastered from the original tapes, therefore, it sounds significantly better to the 1998 version (Release Entertainment). The bonus disc is a 40-minute live recording for the San Francisco-based radio KFJC which again proves that Robin Storey (Zoviet France) has mastered the ability to creating haunting sonic atmospheres. RAPOON - 'The Kirghiz Light' 3 x CD (Zoharum) - £17.50

'The Kirghiz Light' was originally released in 1995 on Staalplaat. Long sold out and ultra collectable, it is also one of the most interesting Robin Storey (Zoviet France) albums from the beginnings of his activities as Rapoon, where strong ethnic motifs are combined with atmospheric passages. Originally a double album, this reissue has been extended with an additional album entitled 'Our Calling Light'. The source material used here was original demo recordings for 'The Kirghiz Light', which have been reinterpreted giving it a whole new sonic space. The cover was designed by Maciej Mehring based on Robin Storey's paintings. Ltd x 500 copies in a lovely triple fold-out digipak.

ROTAT - 'Grease District' CD (Freak Animal) - £11

Rotat started off doing obscure hand assembled tapes, mixing utmost vile perversion with demented humor. His early works were influenced by names like Taint and Smell & Quim. After the debut full-length CD "Carnal Beauty" on FA, the project gained attention outside Finland. On "Grease District" Rotat's sound is developed further. Razor sharp distortions, painful feedback and industrial-noise, very crispy sounding, offering good variation from seemingly live takes of noise blasts to multi-layered and more complex structures. It offers something that could be filed also under the most savage power electronics, yet it would be safe to say what we have here is a good, traditional harsh noise album!

SPLINTERED - 'Turned Inside Out' 2 x CD (Totuuden Sarvi Levyt / Freak Animal) - £15

Splintered was a band around Richo Johnson (Theme, Headbutt), but with a floating membership that included Colin Bradley (Dual), Paul Dudeney, James Machin (Slugbait, Husk), Steve Pittis (Slugbait, Band Of Pain), Paul Wright and Stefx (Headbutt), and as such they toured around, released some LPs, and CDs and more 7"s, the preferred format for an experimental noise rock group. This double CD compilation of 'demos, singles, bsides and unreleased material' is an excellent reminder of how great the band were. "A typical Splintered is twice the length of a normal pop song, six, seven minutes and has loud drums, banging about, a wall of guitar sounds, a strong bass and vocals being shouted about, reminding the listener of the good ol Ramleh. Then there are ornamental bits, such as samples thrown in, or radio sounds. It's quite noise based, but also a great psychedelic feel to it. There is a great driving motorik between this music, the power electronics vocal-style and the strong riffs. Totally energizing music, lifting the spirits up; high up in the sky and one is totally exhausted when the music is over. What a blast from the past!" (Vital Weekly).

Reissue of the album "Have Faith" by legendary UK power electronics / industrial act Con-Dom (Mike Dando). Originally released on cassette by Broken Flag. Ltd x 300 copies (released in 2000).
