DAY BEFORE US & ANTIKATECHON - 'Complaintes Au Bord D'un Autre Monde' CD (Heerwegen Tod Production) - £11

"Complaintes au Bord d'un Autre Monde" is a sorrowing, ascending and enveloping ambient music excursion delivered by two acclaimed contemporary projects in the post industrial music field. The quality of this collaborative work from Antikatechon (Davide Del Col) and Day Before Us (Philippe Blache) lies in the ability to associate soul-crushing melodious textures with haunting and ominous soundscapes. "Complaintes..." is built around electronic loops, detached piano ostinato motifs, guitar infused tones and a vast collection of processed noises. It was created for immediate emotional shivers but also operates on a spiritual level, whilst subverting musical frontiers.

GC / NC - 'Deprecated' CD (Unexplained Sounds) - £12

GC / NC is an electroacoustic duo based in Belgium and the Netherlands, consisting of Sjoerd Leijten and Patrick Bossink. They play instant electronic compositions using self-programmed software and self-made controllers. "Deprecated" is the result of a residency at studio Klangendum inside Worm in Rotterdam, where the duo explored the realm of broken, obsolete and unwanted sounds and experimented with various classic synths (a.o. ARP 2500, Serge), combined with bicycle wheels, guitars, radios and audio programming environment SuperCollider. Through the use of magnets, reed switches and arduinos (microcontrollers) in conjunction with audio coding environment SuperCollider, GC / NC turn bicycles into electroacoustic instruments. The wheels of the bicycle are controlling the sound of their instruments - a guitar and a synthesizer, with the musicians spinning the wheels to produce sound. The wheels function as disruptive elements; a voluntary self-sabotage, since they are not able to play their instruments in the conventional manner. A radio is used to record small fragments of radio channels which are directly used in the performances. Digipak.

H.Ö.H. - 'Superorganism' LP (Freak Animal) - £22

This Finnish obscurity has reached niche cult status with his tape releases. Utterly primitive, totally analogue noise experiments, which have been mostly self-released. There is also a sought after 2017 CD anthology consisting of some the early tapes, now long sold out. This vinyl album is all-new material, exclusive to this LP. Tape loops, broken primitive electronics, tape hiss and crackling distortion, with really tasty noise and a perfect sound for vinyl. H.Ö.H.'s material could be compared with very earliest Consumer Electronics or radio noise recordings of John Duncan, but with further handmade primitivism and utmost broken and unprocessed radio-signals. An assault of truly disturbing and difficult noise rawness! Features a cover with paste-on art, and an insert is included.

MOLOCH CONSPIRACY - 'Incantatios From Ugarit' CD (Eighth Tower Records / Unexplained Sounds) - £12

The new Moloch Conspiracy album sets up atmospheres inspired by different collections of liturgical and religious texts found in the ruins of the city of Ugarit in Syria. The civilization of Ugarit expresses a very strong religious feeling. Through different texts, we perceive their daily practices through magic incantations which call upon a pantheon of various gods. It is about an archaic and singular vision of the divinities and gods which one finds in other civilizations of Mesopotamia or the Eastern Mediterranean. Through archaeology and the discovery of numerous tablets, these texts have reached us through the ages. While some are famous as the "Baal cycle", others show aspects more confined to intimate rituals. "The dark jails of the city of Ugarit are only lit by distant torches that light up the maze of streets, houses and tangled temples. From there too, we hear the awful ritual, incantations and other terrifying spells dedicated to Baal". Ltd x 100 copies in a digipak.

SCUM - 'Life Sentence' CD (Aussaat) - £12

"Life Sentence" is the 3rd full-length album with Japanese Noise unit Scum. Nine intense new tracks, one a collaboration with Unsustainable Social Condition, another with Government Alpha. Active since 2010, Sou Inomoto presents very full-bodied and extraordinarily crafty Cut Up Harsh Noise and sampling that should please both fans of old school Japanese Harsh Noise bliss as well as those who appreciate the technical and progressive aspects of more recent big names. SEALED IN BLOOD - 'Antropophobia' CD (Heerwegen Tod Production) - £11

Anthropophobia (fear of people) is the latest album of dark ambient project Sealed In Blood (aka Funeral from Goat Thron). From the emotional side, the album is "an attempt to escape from civilization, from all harm caused to nature by man, from progressive globalization, digitization, industrialization. There is no place where we could hide from the nightmare of everyday life and from the world ruled by irresponsible politicians and corporations". Stylistically, the album continues Sealed In Blood's dark ambient path - gloomy, dark, hypnotic and cold sounds with keyboards and lots of unusual sounds, concepts and a large dose of dirt and severity. A clear translation of the emotions of existing in a reality of environmental degradation, or the infamous human influence on the beauty of nature. The artwork reflects the places connected with the music: a direct message from mysterious stones found near Polkowice. 74 minutes of cold, misanthropic, dark ambient.

SONOLOGYST - 'Dust Of Human Race' CD (Eighth Tower Records / Unexplained Sounds) - £12

"Wherever you look, there is nothing but the image of death" (Publio Ovidio Nasone). "Sonologyst has taken inspiration from an assortment of philosophies and outlooks on death, hoping that the created music can in some way capture or explain the essence of this universal, but also deeply personal, experience. As a consequence, the tracks roam from the work of horror writer Thomas Ligotti to Buddhism, and even to Sardinian funeral rituals... Dust Of Human Race is an eclectic dark ambient album, one that contains a variety of soundscapes and moods. Some of the tracks feel a little gothic, others fizz with radio tones, and yet others treat the listener to dark chants or strange pulsing energies. It's quite fitting really. Death, as with so many topics, has so many ways of being looked at, it's little wonder that something that takes our various outlooks as inspiration, will have such a range of expression" (Casey Douglass). VIGILANTISM - 'Nox Ultra' CD (Freak Animal) - £11.50

This is the follow up Vigilantism's 2019 debut "Incessant Authority" (also on Freak Animal). Another sign of creative Finnish industrial-noise / power electronics of the current age. Relying on simple, but effective elements - always raw, always the bare-bones approach, but sounding unlike other groups from Finland. "Nox Ultra" has the rawness of a harsh noise background, with some similarity to the masterminds' noise works under the moniker of Edge Of Decay, yet more composed, more concept-oriented, and altogether darker. The approach of Vigilantism sets this project apart as an entirely different entity. Presented in a 6-panel digipak.

[13:73+0:11MLD] - 'Fields Of Jupiter' CD (Black Death Production) - £11

Polish Space/Dark Ambient project. "Fields of Jupiter" is [13:75+0:11MLD]'s second full-length album, though first time on professional CD. This time the album focuses on Jupiter, the biggest planet of our Solar System. Some of the sounds are from Voyager's space probes. Three lengthy 3 tracks (almost 45 minutes) of cold and deep music. Ltd x 500 copies.

BAD SECTOR - 'Kosmodrom' 2 x CD Boxset (Power & Steel / Loki Foundation) - £17.50

Originally released in 2005, this 2CD box includes the original album and the MCD with five extra tracks, turning the 2nd disc into an additional full length release. Dedicated to Konstantin Tsiolkovsky, the Russian pioneer of astronautic theory, the key element in Bad Sector's music was brought into the foreground with this release. Original Soviet sound devices like the Aelita synthesizer and the electro-optical ANS (which Coil also worked with) were mixed with heavily processed sources from space missions, adding an unearthly human dialogue to the electronics. The sounds on "Kosmodrom" are deep and droning, pulsating and constantly flowing with processed rhythmic sequences, supported by a bed of radio signal recordings. A timeless masterpiece of deep ambient electronica! Comes in a clam-box with 12-page booklet.

CIRCULAR - 'Radiating Perpetual Light' CD (Loki Foundation) - £11.50

The evolving, dense nature of Circular's sound world is unfolding again with this new work - the first since 2009. Pulsating and deep, reverberant drones, slowly moving guitar lines and rhythms, combined with ambient layers of rich tonal colours were created with an extensive set of analogue and acoustic devices. With his third album Johannes Riedel has entered a region of higher density that produces deeper echoes of sombre oscillation. Radiating Perpetual Light emerges from the desire to sculpt an organic, meditative and deeply ambient environment of mysterious and shapeshifting soundscapes. This is the perfect soundtrack for a dark and glowing sunset. Comes in a 6-panel outsize digisleeve.

GRUNT - 'Spiritual Eugenics' 2 x LP (Freak Animal) - £26

Born in 1993, Grunt remains one of the most active and restless forces in the Finnish - or even global - power electronics / industrial noise network. Since the first tapes were published 25 years ago, project has been active without any breaks, with a list of releases reaching close to 100, yet most of them represents an approach other than creation of a regular "album". Spiritual Eugenics continues the path established by "Castrate The Illusionist" (2018), "Myth Of Blood" (2015), "World Draped In A Camouflage" (2012), "Petturien Rooli" (2009) and "Seer of Decay" (2006). It expands the sounds, themes and visuals to unheard levels, but keeps a firm touch of the recognisable Grunt sound. A monolithic double vinyl packaged in a gatefold sleeve with 2 inserts (explicit artwork!).

INADE - 'Audio Mythology One' CD (Loki Foundation) - £11.50

There's more to the history of the incomparable Dark Ambient sound sculptors, Inade, than meets the ear. "Audio Mythology One" gathers unreleased material and compilation tracks, the shards and splintered remnants that litter the cosmic wasteland that is their sonic home. These are essential pieces of the vast network of sound manipulation that fills the blackened soul of night, the heart of primal urgency, haunting and dramatic, abounding with the ethereal mist of unease and dense ruminations that breathe and exhale awe with every resonant pulse. Masterful audio musings. "Audio Mythology One" is an introduction to the archive of INADE's sound work. The soul of Eternity has a voice. It has a smile that radiates dreams of ancient origin. Its yawn is vast and perilous: to view it is to sacrifice sanity. Infinite eons have passed through its throat, sometimes latticed with tectonic cosmic rumbles, sometimes threaded with dissonant whispers of devious design. It is a place where Desolation strangles Hope with withered fingers. The soul of Eternity has a voice. It is pure sound convulsion; it is harsh sound vibration. It speaks through Inade. Though its playground is beyond conception, where space and beyond space merge, the foundation for translation is cultivated here, on Earth, by the Masters of Dark Ambient, Inade. "Audio Mythology Two" collects more loose strands and bleak, back-alley diversions, and gives them life. The saga of Sonic Pioneers continues with the second part of the collection from the archive of Inade's sound work. This release focuses on restructured session material (1997-2011), compilation tracks (2006-2009, partly re-worked) and finalised studio recordings of live backing tracks (2012-2013).

IONOSPHERE - 'Nightscape' CD (Power & Steel / Loki Foundation) - £11.50

Eight years since their last release in 2007, Ionosphere has now returned with its third full length album. It follows the path of previous works focusing on deep, shivering, cosmic sound waves and moves further with the inclusion of an emotional core. Expansive drones, drifting melodic soundscapes, ominous sonic undertones and vocal transmissions intersect with densely concentrated rhythmic pulsations that emphasize the sculptural nature and deep atmospheric scope of the 11 tracks. Originally released as a limited CDR (Avatar Records), this new edition is expanded with two additional tracks. The predecessors to 'Human Stasis Habit' (two of which were released on Malignant Records) opened the gates to a transcendent journey with huge sound walls of cosmic doom and ritualistic percussion; the new album moves deeper to the core from which the monolithic audio sculptures of Phelios rise. 'Human Stasis Habitat' is a constant maelstrom of sound waves utilising majestic and ominous dronescaping, underlaid by intense bass tones and loaded with echoes. These add a vast emptiness to the textural darkness, enlarging its stoically cosmic aura in the most splendid way. Perfect for the long nights, this is a deep ambient space soundtrack of nothing less than eight hours on eight CDs. 'S.E.I.T.' (Sleep Environments for Interplanetary Travel) by Andrew Lagowski / SETI takes you on a journey to other worlds, using wormhole navigation and cosmic guidance. You'll go through parallel universes, maybe needing to sleep in order to maintain your sanity. There will be echoes of your past lives, encounters and tangential moments. Darkness, beauty and noise will be your companions... mangled bursts of communication... a smattering of spy transmissions... broken broadcasts and ethereal interludes from an Earth long since abandoned by a stupid and brutal race. A race only occasionally capable of connecting to the cosmic wheel that gives our souls energy. First released in 1996, 'The Geometry of Night' is the second album of Andrew Lagowski's deep space sound project, which marked a reference point to his works under the name Lagowski. A classic album with laid back percussion, finely-tuned electronics, dark atmospheric synth waves and soundscapes. The album perfectly describes themes of night sky surveys, surveillance operations and radio telescope disinformation with the advice to keep a wary eye on the dark side of human nature. This is a remedy for the lonely nights staring at your social interface, the melancholy for lost opportunities and a hope for what lies beyond the nearest nebula. This newly re-mastered edition includes the sister album 'Companion', with more than 60 minutes of new material. The concept involves companions, bound together by molecular chains, enveloped in dark matter and history, swirling endlessly within infinite illuminating spirals. UMPIO - 'Acquired Tastes - Lost Tapes 2008-2011' 2 x CD (Freak Animal) - £14.50

Tracks from rare and nearly impossible to get tapes, with several tracks previously unreleased. Despite promised releases for this material over the last decade, these recordings remained unreleased. This double album now fills those gaps with the missing parts in the lineage of Umpio's discography. Since recording this material, Umpio has moved onto new ways of noise making, yet "Acquired Tastes" will be a testament to the Finnish junk noise era he is most known for.

Since the 1978 Brian Eno album "Music For Airports", subsequent attempts to produce music to create sonorous ambient textures and/or to describe environments through sound have been numerous. With this compilation, curated by Raffaele Pezzella (Sonologyst), ZeroK provide sound descriptions of abandoned Cold War places, as part of a wider project focused on abandoned, decommissioned, or even vanishing places. As the decades pass these places will become icons of past ages, existing somewhere between history and modern myth. They currently occupy a Ballardian mental space where reality cannot be distinguished from ghostly parallel dimensions.
