ERIC LUNDE - 'Ghost By Mouth' CD (E-Klageto / Psych.KG) - £13

A new album of textural and vocal explorations from Eric Lunde (Trait, ex-Boy Dirt Car), an outsider writer who has been involved in mysterious activities since the 1980's. This 20-track CD features a minimal voice that repeats monotonous texts, humming drone, industrial noise and other experimentations. "What does a ghost taste like in your mouth? Like words. Like match heads, or ash. Yes. All words taste like ash. A hollow core, a circle with limbs. Why are ghosts confused with words? They are not. They are the same. NON TOXIQUE LOST Meets OCCUPIED HEAD - 'Totmannschalter' CD (E-Klageto / Psych.KG) - £11.50

"Totmannschalter" (Dead man's switch) contains 10 songs, constructed by Dieter Mauson (Occupied Head) and Sea Wanton. Harsh electronic beats meet Wanton's blunt lyrics, screamed over Industrial sounds. Non Toxique Lost are one of the most important and equally most underrated bands from Berlin's 1980's Industrial scene. Sprung aus den Wolken, Einstürzende Neubauten, Die Tödliche Doris and also Non Toxique Lost were the core of the movement in the divided city. Most of their early albums came out on cassette only, later being collected onto vinyl and CD. After the tragic loss of long-time member Steffen Schütze in 2017, NTL continue with their unique vision of music. Ltd x 300 hand-numbered copies in an A5 8-page booklet.

SSHE RETINA STIMULANTS - 'Ecclesiastic Audition Stories' CD (E-Klageto / Psych.KG) - £11.50

Sshe Retina Stimulants is the solo project of Paolo Bandera (Sigillum S). "The musician saint's gift of internal audition is followed by his text, imagining the parts where voices of women lament the ecclesiastical structures that deny them... the challenge for congregations to tell themselves their full story, while accepting the deepest social symbolic meanings. The implied experience of music in the celebration of liturgy translates into brutal torture and murder, with old and new popular games becoming the playground for the experience of spiritual song from autobiographical accounts... reading the news that they had died, so many memories came flooding back... a stage name became a pseudonym used by performers and entertainers to reach out to their vision of transcendence...". SUDDEN INFANT - 'Lunatic Asylum' CD (Fourth Dimension) - £11.50

Sudden Infant - Joke Lanz, with Christian Weber on bass, and Alexandre Babel on drums - lays on a battery of electronics, loops, field recordings and samples to complement mostly semi-spoken vocals. Short bursts of angular flex are heavily propelled by depth-charge rhythms, wry lyrical musings on modern living, and sensibilities hatched from years of experience in the worlds of sound art, abstract music, and industrialised junk-noise. "Lunatic Asylum" depicts a world in absolute disarray as the seams binding it together slowly fall apart to reveal jesters whose best attempts to glue everything back in place are built on bigger lies more transparent than ever. Meanwhile, citizens of the developed world turn on each other, with their descent into an ignorance nourished by half-baked cultural nuggets pre-packaged and sold as great and awe-inspiring work. Everything has to be recorded, photographed and shared as brain cells are decimated by false ideals, propaganda, exaggerated lifestyles. Such are the snapshots that resonate as "Lunatic Asylum" takes some well-aimed swipes at the human condition of the 21st Century. THE BLIZZARD SOW - 'Foggy Songs For The First Periods' CD (E-Klageto / Psych.KG) - £11.50

The second album from duo The Blizzard Sow: Denis Frajerman & Guillaume Boppe. "A project of songs inspired by the Sehnsucht felt during visits at a psychiatric hospital... Listening to these strange songs , very simple, composed with a dictaphone, I instantly imagined the arrangements surrounded with smog and electric tension, just like the title... Guillaume immediately thought that Solene Illonescu could do the arrangements with the electric lightning strikes of her indomitable guitar. Then I confided the keyboards parts written by Solene to the young and gifted Ivan B., organist of the copte church of St Petersburg. Other musicians completed the roster on drums, sax, clarinet, viola, cornet, flute... Perfect to savour in your bath, music that will delicately pour singing and strange sensual harmonies on your numbed limbs" (Yann Caravan, producer). Z'EV & JULIEN OTTAVI - 'Crash & Cross' CD (4iB Records) - £11.50

A posthumous co-operative recording of the late pioneer of ritual and industrial music following altered states of consciousness. Thanks to the strong input of Julien Ottavi ("The Noiser"), these tracks have a notably harsher industrial noise sound than Z'EV's trademark rhythmajik work. First meeting in 2009, and following a tour in 2011, the duo sowed the seed of this record in 2014, when Z’EV came to live in Nantes and they spent time creating percussive music. "We worked on some recordings, mixed live and studio sessions that had been put together over the year after 2015. We used both percussion recordings and live music that were sometimes processed and other times not. We spent a whole year recording bits and pieces that were assembled together during a few months. The idea was to create a release that will cross the different aspects of our collaboration, together, live, recorded, in the same place, sometimes in different places. The aspects of composition were really strong as we worked on each other's materials through exchanges about the way to mix it and arrangement of the multi-track recordings. Some parts of the live materials were recorded as stereo, and the most interesting parts were cut and assembled. Even today, it is difficult to say which one is live and which one is not. ANTONIO TESTA - 'Radioforest' CD (Tantric Harmonies) - £11

Covering a wide range of sounds from tribal ethno-ambient to ritual and field recordings, "Radioforest" takes the listener on an exotic aural journey to the faraway lands, to unknown gods and bizarre rituals. Italian ethno-drone musician Shifting trance percussion, ocarina, flutes, and synth textures co-mingle with field recordings from Mexico, Africa and Italy. In Antonio's words, the "radio" aspect is the music or the tribal drum transmitting outwards, a calling of the spirits to help the state of our planet. Antonio Testa specialises in organic sound and the creation of musical atmospheres through the use of a vast array of mostly native and shamanic instruments, together with his own creations made from organic and recycled materials. By using state-of-the-art recording tools and processing technology, common ground is found between animal skin drum, the shaman's rattle and the digital domain. "A must-have release" (Steve Roach). BOSSES HANG & GOVERNMENT ALPHA & TORTURING NURSE & ASTRO & VOMIR - 'Once In A Lifetime' 2 x CD (4iB Records) - £16.50

Once In A Lifetime is a fragmented and anachronistic double album featuring Romania's Bosses Hang (aka Raul Starcz) improvising on the original works of noise protagonists: Government Alpha, Astro (Hiroshi Hasegawa & Rohco) (Japan), Torturing Nurse (China), and Vomir (France). Other guests like Marko Neuman, Déhà (Musical Excrements) and Junko (Hijokaidan) are also featured in this free-forming transformation of sound, that ranges from drone to industrial noise to free jazz and doom. The range of sounds transcend into unexpected directions and territories, all serving as the base of this album. There is a rhizomatic meeting between the different artists with different styles and different subjectivities being captured here. Due to its instinctive and improvisational nature, the tracks will never exist in the same form ever again. DAVID JACKMAN - 'Herbstsonne' CD (Die Stadt) - £13.50

This work by David Jackman (Organum), "Herbstsonne" consists of a single 47-minute long track which is the result of recording sessions at RMS Studios, South London in 2018. Using the sounds of tanpura, piano, organ and bells, the music perfectly captures the title of the piece which translates to "Autumn Sun". "Deliberately minimalist in arrangement, but with an unquestionable dedication to the finest detail of sounds, it is another work of fascinating beauty by the legendary artist... some of the most engrossing music I have heard all year" (Brainwashed). DAVID JACKMAN - 'Silence In That Time' CD (Die Stadt) - £13.50

The follow up to 2019's critically acclaimed album "Herbstsonne" album from David Jackman (Organum), "Silence In That Time" is a direct offshoot of the former album, adding more sounds to the overall sound palette. Recorded at RMS Studios South London in 2019, the single 42 minute long track stands as another distinctively beautiful and haunting work in the artist's discography. "The magic lies in becoming absorbed by Jackman's gentle pacing, the cycles of percussive piano, the tamboura (?) drone and reverberant echoes that overlap one another in a slow dance. FOVEA HEX - 'Here Is Where We Used To Sing' CD (Janet Records) - £15

Fovea Hex are one of the most intriguing phenomena in contemporary music. This album comprises eight beautifully crafted songs and three short instrumentals that build on the fusion of formal composition, cutting edge ambient sound art, incomparable song writing skill, with Clodagh Simonds's emotionally rich and evocative vocals. A core ensemble of Simonds, Laura Sheeran, Cora Venus Lunny, Michael Begg (Human Greed) and Colin Potter (Monos, Nurse With Wound) are variously joined, replaced, augmented and superimposed by visitations from Brian Eno, Julia Kent (Antony and the Johnsons), Andrew Liles (Current 93 / Nurse With Wound), John Contreras, Kate Ellis, members of Larsen, and "friends who would prefer to remain nameless". Generously proportioned and sonically mesmerizing soundscapes. Presented in a stunning matt laminate / spot-varnished digipak with 8-page lyric booklet.

JOHN DUNCAN - 'Da sich die Machtgier...' CD (Die Stadt) - £12

Asmus Tietchens sent processed recordings of himself reading excerpts from two texts by E. M. Cioran. John Duncan worked on and manipulated them, creating three pieces. There is little of Tietchens remaining in these abstract creations. Speed-altered voice tracks are stacked, swirling electronic sounds in the background providing proof of deeper processing. 'Freih zein hoem macht...' ranks among Duncan''s harshest pieces to date, while 'Aber...' is more "typical" Duncan: a drone derived from the sound source but from which the sound source has been obliterated, and yet makes its ghostly presence palpable. Ltd x 1000 copies in a digipak with spot varnish, with cover art by Tietchens.

KONTAKT DER JÜNGLINGE - 'Makrophonie 1' CD (Die Stadt) - £13.50

The very first studio album from Kontakt Der Jünglinge: Asmus Tietchens and Thomas Köner. This is the result of various scores which were developed before and during miscellaneous live performances. These worked out structures were then taken to the studio, where they were concentrated and received their final finish. "Makrophonie 1" can be described as KDJ music in highly-concentrated form. "Ghostly sweeps of dark, haunting tones mix with crackling, phased static early on, with both trading off to create a dramatic, swirling build of intense music that sounds richer and more fully realized than what was captured on their live collaborations" (Brainwashed). Ltd x 500 copies in a digipak.

ONTAYSO - 'Elochim' CD (Tantric Harmonies) - £11

Second full-length release by this Belgian-based act. Ontayso have created a special release of manipulated electroacoustic music in a dark and sensitive way, inspired by the artwork of strip artist Moebius ("Elochim" is a planet in one of his famous strips). The music is soft and tranquil, but with experimental compositions and a lot of building tension underneath, created with field recordings, electronics, piano, saxophone guitar, and subtle percussion. Ltd x 750 copies in a gatefold card sleeve.

ORCHESTRA TERRESTRIAL - 'Here And Elsewhere' CD (Die Stadt) - £16

"Here And Elsewhere" is a foray by the late Richard H Kirk (CABARET VOLTAIRE) into deep ambient and orchestral motifs. We recognise Kirk's sound immediately in the opening sections; a gradual drift into a calm and tranquil atmosphere, with a noticeable fringe of darkness around its edges. Calm, sweet and sad melodies carry these pieces through ambient territories, keeping things on a highly suggestive level. The rhythms are more implied than they are explicit, whatever beats appear are muted and softened, which makes this music all the more interesting for what it withholds from the listener. The pieces build slowly and move steadily. Dark drones blend with loops of submerged sounds and sampled / synthetic strings, exploring the realms of the deep in a manner that can be both fluid and repetitive with the presence of rhythmic, melodic and abstract loops. Music for quiet times, the soundtrack for a day of dreaming. Ltd x 1000 numbered copies in a 6-panel digisleeve with 6 artcards with an image courtesy of Naked Art or The Designers Republic, each entitled after one of the tracks.

ORGANUM - 'Omega' CD (Die Stadt) - £13.50

The third and final part of the Organum trilogy that started with 'Sanctus' (Robot Records) and 'Amen' (Die Stadt). 'Omega' is a further continuation of those first two parts and "...comes to form in the use of a church organ like sound, some highly processed chime like sound and a deep drone of rusty metal in the background. Just as on 'Sanctus' and 'Amen' - and much true to the form of Organum mystery, there are three pieces here, which all sound quite similar - or perhaps they are similar? ... just enjoy that crazy genius Organum. I am long converted to his belief" (Vital Weekly). Ltd x 600 copies in a digipak.

ORGANUM / Z'EV - 'Temporal' CD (Die Stadt) - £13.50

"Temporal" is the third collaborative work from Organum and Z'EV, following "Tinnitus VU" on Touch and "Tocsin" on Die Stadt. Z'EV began reworking basic sound material from the Organum archive back in 2006, which resulted in a collaborative mixing of the material until early 2008. The finishing touches were then left to David Jackman between March and June 2008. The overall tone on "Temporal" is comparable to the 'classic' Organum sound; a multi-layered and intense listening experience. Ltd x 600 copies in a digisleeve.

ORGANUM / Z'EV - 'Tocsin -6 Thru +2' CD (Die Stadt) - £13.50

Following "Tinnitus Vu" (Touch, 2004), "Tocsin" is the first full length album by these two renowned sound artists. Whereas Z'EV simply reworked already existing work by David Jackman for "Tinnitus Vu", this time the artists agreed to both meet in the studio for "Tocsin". They created and recorded sounds from a piano and a stainless steel piece built by Z'EV circa 1989, over the course of several hours, took the recordings home, and after a period of each one mixing these sounds by themselves came up with what can be heard on this CD. Two distinctively different works by both artists which form a multilayered and fascinating album. Design by Jonathan Coleclough. Ltd x 600 copies a digisleeve.

PHURPA & QUEEN ELEPHANTINE - 'Ita Zor' CD (4iB Records) - £11.50

This inner space journey is a collaboration between PHURPA, renowned Russian ritualists who perform the ancient Bon music of Tibet, and QUEEN ELEPHANTINE, the avant-garde rock group formed in Hong Kong and now based in Philadelphia, USA. Together they weave history with the future into an offering that reflects the present moment, slowly teasing the tension of a dense electric buzzing chaos while seeking anchor and abandon in ancient knowledge. This chant and drone work goes incredibly deep, astronomically far out, and is the sound of death as much as of healing. Phurpa provide the backbone with their transcendent thunderous throat chanting while Queen Elephantine create an otherworldly cloud around them, using gyaling horns, conch shells, gongs, flutes, ceremonial bells and bowls, drums, guitar, and electronics. The artwork features a striking sculpture by Transylvanian skull-carver Victor Seiche; a fitting image for the sound of a dead wisdom tradition adored, adorned, and defiled with sincere devotion. SUTCLIFFE JUGEND - 'Slaves No More' 2 x CD (4iB Records) - £16.50

This double album connects the dots between Sutcliffe Jugend and their new incarnation as Slaves No More (SNM). The decision to end Sutcliffe Jugend was officially announced at the end of 2019 and Slaves No More formed in early 2020. This release bridges the two acts and showcases the somewhat different music styles between them, especially from the former's earlier power electronics sound. Consisting of material recorded right after the "S L A V E S" 6CD set was released back in 2016, this is the sequel to that release. Remnants of the earlier SJ style can be identified on Disc 1 with more vocal parts and noisy elements (especially in "Noise Factory"), and the slightly more ambient and complex soundscapes of "Slaves No More" (SNM) on Disc 2. Both discs contain unreleased material, and they continue to feature layers of noise and sound elements unique to the Sutcliffe Jugend style. The recordings have been particularly curated to showcase the best tracks Kevin and Paul want to present as the final Sutcliffe Jugend release showcasing the connective lead up from "S L A V E S" to an era of new sounds and creative direction, Slaves No More (SNM). SUTCLIFFE NO MORE - 'Domestic' 2 x CD (4iB Records) - £18

Sutcliffe No More, a continuation of Sutcliffe Jugend, release the harrowing double CD "Domestic" recorded during Lockdown 2020-21, which explores themes of isolation and domestic abuse. This double album is the result of the current Pandemic, taking into account loss, frustration and fear that have rained down on the world this past year. Sutcliffe No More has seen the mask cast aside and the cauldron of horror that exists in all of us is now fully exposed to our eyes. The recurring themes of entrapment, abandonment, loneliness and abuse highlight the huge rise in cases of domestic violence during the lockdown. This is the first release by Paul Taylor and Kevin Tomkins as Sutcliffe No More. After the one off album as Slaves No More, the band reverted to the same lyrical themes and musical intensity of Sutcliffe Jugend, through using spoken word and singing combined with classical, choirs, analogue synths, and electronica. This superbly produced album is a one of a kind release that is unique and as always, a difficult listen and definitely not for the faint-hearted. It takes you to a place outside of your comfort zone and is essential listening for those with a taste for extreme art. 6-panel digisleeve with 16-page booklet and double-sided A4 poster.
