DREW DANIEL (MATMOS) / JOHN WIESE (SISSY SPACEK) - 'Continuous Hole'
CD £9.50 - out 23/06

This collaborative album by Drew Daniel (Matmos, The Soft Pink Truth) and John Wiese (Sissy Spacek, Smegma, LHD,) is the fruit of over 10 years of recordings in San Francisco, Los Angeles and Baltimore.
"Continuous Hole" melds improvisation and musique concrète composition into a uniquely sweaty document of labour-intensive rhythm document of labour-intensive rhythm. A finger puzzle of reconciled opposites: lockstep structure and constant flux.
Relentlessly variable source material is relegated to precisely timed gated forms and patterns. Without using any sampling or MIDI sequencing, the rhythmic cuts are constructed entirely from volcanic, gnarled abstraction, and eschew typical genre elements.
Raw yet precise, from mayhem to menace, this is a album of strong contrasts from two American artists discovering common ground in the joy of frenzied cutting. Our personal favourite is 'Abhorred Shears', which reminds of the cut-up works of COIL's LSD yet remains utterly unique.
A prolific recording artist and visual artist with an extensive discography under his own name, and with noise stalwarts Sissy Spacek, John Wiese is currently based in Cleveland. One half of the electronic band Matmos and all of The Soft Pink Truth, Drew Daniel is based in Baltimore.
Mastered by Thomas Dimuzio. Presented in a matt-laminate 6-panel digipak with photography by John Wiese. The cover photograph was shot by John Wiese in Drew Daniel's office on the campus of Johns Hopkins University where Daniel is a Shakespeare professor.

B.E.F. (post-HUMAN LEAGUE / pre-HEAVEN 17) - 'Music For Stowaways'
LP Electric Blue £23 - out now!

Second - and final - reissue of seminal early 1980's electronic recordings from the British Electric Foundation (B.E.F.), aka HEAVEN 17 / ex-THE HUMAN LEAGUE's Martyn Ware and Ian Craig Marsh, with Adi Newton (CLOCK DVA / THE FUTURE), and John Wilson (HEAVEN 17), originally a cassette-only release (1981).
• Ltd x 500 copies on 180g Electric Blue LP (Cold Spring only)
Also available: LP Black £23 | CD £12
Following two groundbreaking albums ('Reproduction' and 'Travelogue'), the original line-up of Sheffield-based The Human League split in half in late 1980. The two primary musicians in the group, Martyn Ware and Ian Craig Marsh, formed a new production company - the British Electric Foundation (B.E.F.) - and signed a deal with Virgin Records to write and produce up to six albums a year. The artists they were to produce would include Heaven 17, their own new band formed with vocalist Glenn Gregory.
B.E.F. would also release their own material, commencing with the music on this collection, which was issued in various permutations in 1981-82. Its initial release in March 1981 was a limited edition numbered eight song cassette entitled 'Music for Stowaways', with 'Stowaways' being a reference to the original name for the then-new Sony portable cassette player - later renamed the Walkman - of which B.E.F. were great fans. 'Music for Stowaways' was intended to be listened to on such a device. The cassette was followed by a seven song LP, 'Music For Listening To', which had a slightly different tracklisting, while other B.E.F. music was utilised for B-sides of early singles by Heaven 17.
This music was among the first recorded by Martyn and Ian directly after their departure from The Human League. Some tracks had evolved from other recordings they were working on at the time, such as 'Groove Thang' - an instrumental version of the debut single by Heaven 17 - and 'The Old At Rest', which derived from a version of 'Wichita Lineman' by Jimmy Webb, their very first recording with Glenn that would subsequently appear on B.E.F.'s 'Music of Quality and Distinction, Volume One' covers album in 1982.
Supporting musicians on 'Music For Stowaways' included Adi Newton of Clock DVA (who had been a member of The Future with Martyn and Ian pre-Human League) on the track 'Uptown Apocalyse', with John Wilson (who provided incredible guitar and bass for Heaven 17) appearing on 'Groove Thang'.
The innovative sounds heard on 'Music For Stowaways' were an inspiration to many aspiring electronic artists. In 2015, Uncut magazine included it in a list of the '50 Greatest Lost Albums of All Time'.

VA 'Музыкальное Приношение' (Musical Offering) - out now! | CD £11

Available on CD (or any other format) for the first time outside USSR, Soviet composers perform their works on the legendary ANS synthesizer.
Recorded in 1971, "MUSICAL OFFERING" is 6 tracks (42 mins) of experiments on the unique machine by: Eduard Artemiev (2 tracks), Oleg Buloshkin, Sofia Gubaidulina, Edison Denisov, and Alfred Schnittke.
"MUSICAL OFFERING" demonstrates a 'musical' machine unlike any other and has long fascinated cutting edge, modern electronic composers, notably COIL and THE ANTI GROUP COMMUNICATIONS (TAGC) / CLOCK DVA, that have both released recordings utilising the ANS.
Try to imagine a score sounding by itself without a conductor; an orchestra without musical instruments. This magic is possible by using the musical ANS synthesizer. Created by Soviet scientist Evgeny Murzin over the course of 20 years, ANS is an instrument with which a composer can not only create but also draw their music without notes. You can see the twinkling of different lamps, the rotation of grooved glass discs... The drawings on the glass are 'sounding notes'. To listen to the drawn picture, press the button and a wonderful transformation will begin.
Murzin dedicated his photoelectronic apparatus to Alexander Nikolayevich Scriabin (ANS), the creator of the 'Poem of Ecstasy', and a famous explorer of synesthesia.
These tracks have only ever been available on an LP pressed by the state-run Soviet Union label Melodiya over 30 years ago. Soviet music lovers will already know recordings made on ANS from Tarkovsky's films Solaris, The Mirror, and Stalker, Konchalovsky's film Siberiade, and others.
Presented in a digipak with the new artwork by Abby Helasdottir (who also created the compelling promo video), complimenting the ANS process perfectly.

The ultimate deep listening experience from two masters of dark ambient. A slow descent into the blackened watery abyss, where light cannot reach.
The first Sleep Research Facility release since 2012's "Stealth" (Cold Spring). Inspired by the deep sea ocean floor, the Canadian-based composer explores notions of awareness and perception in the sub/unconscious listener. The material was created specifically for this release.
Taking inspiration from the beautiful, but often harsh landscapes and environments of his home on Anglesey, North Wales, Llyn Y Cwn has built on the nautical theme of "Du Y Moroedd" (Cold Spring). These tracks are based on field recordings relating to the ocean, and could be seen as a companion piece to the album.
Ltd LP on audiophile black vinyl. CD in mini-LP sleeve, replicating LP design. Features a separate front cover design with individual art for each side.

The new album from 400 LONELY THINGS, produced by WILLIAM BASINSKI, is a dark ambient, sample-based séance to the Banning Mill - a real-life decaying "mansion" and haven for artists, freaks and misfits in the backwoods of the American Deep South in the 1970s-1990s - and an extraordinary piece of art that lived there.
An archaeological excursion in found sound - wandering through the art and memory of a real place, "Mother Moon" is an origin story for 400 Lonely Things. An imaginary soundtrack to the many years of solitude Richard Scott Hill's Minotauress spent hanging in the musty, secret winding halls of Banning Mill.
Melancholic instrumentals with weathered sampling at its core.
Presented in a 6-panel spot-varnished digipak.

The first new album in 14 years from LULL - the pioneering, isolationist dark ambient project of MICK HARRIS (SCORN, FRET, ex-NAPALM DEATH).
"I finally heard the way of recording, making profound sounds. Lull is purely something I can get lost in, as far as trying to create these imaginary spaces.
LULL is quite natural for me. It's an extension of me. Drifting. Just going to darkness. Into a space. LULL is drifting and droning, discovering more and more what can be done with sound. These soundscapes hugely appeal to me".

A history lesson, recorded in autumn 1989. Unavailable for over 20 years in any format, "Malfeitor" is the classic album from Swedish Black Industrial act Maschinenzimmer 412.
This is evil incarnate, staring into the abyss. With a more lyrical approach than the predecessor "Macht Durch Stimme", "Malfeitor" explores themes of death, with an unequivocal dystopian outlook.
Cavernous heavy industrial, primitive machine rhythms, and cold metallic loops created on old synths with very little post-production. Originally released on LP in 1989 (CMI) this monumental album is now available for the first time since 2001. Also available on digital for the first time ever!
Mastered from the original 4-track tapes.
Matt-laminate digipak with new artwork.

The third album from the Australian post-industrial outfit is a merciless and visceral assault on the senses. An uncompromising force of harsh post-industrial music created with a wide variety of metals, raw materials, metal grates, a rusted hoist, cement cylinders, field recordings, hammering of various decrepit objects, broken amplifiers, various synthesizers, and the infamous metal coil. Much of the creation and lyrical conceptualisation of the record has been stylised and presented using William S. Burroughs' cut-up method.
Mastering: James Plotkin. Art: Nullvoid (T. Ekelund | Trepaneringsritualen).

CHRIS DREIER (DIE TÖDLICHE DORIS) & TIM LÖHDE - 'MK - CT' LP (Fang Bomb) - £18
MK/CT is the duo of Chris Dreier (Die Tödliche Doris) and Tim Löhde. Spree is the main river that flows through Berlin. It's not often that it gets cold enough for the river to freeze over but a few years ago, the ice lay solid. Chris Dreier recorded the sounds of the ice, the cracking and popping as the temperature changed. He sent the recordings to Tim Löhde, beginning the musical correspondence that defines MK/CT. Dreier and Löhde have continued to send sounds to each other - field recordings, voices, recordings of synthesizers and pianos - with the intent of composing incrementally. Adding, removing and transforming the composition with each receipt and return... one element and one layer at the time... back and forth, until the finished piece emerges. Comes with sheet of stickers and download card. |
ELECTRONICDEATHBLACKDOGS - 'Hinterland' CD (Winter-Light) - £11.50
ElectronicDeathBlackDogs present the stark and desolate album 'Hinterland' - an audio air-brushed soundscape depicting a bleak, craggy landscape, sparsely inhabited, wind-swept and boulder strewn. Ancient fingers of granite scrabble from out of the bowels of the Earth, pointing accusingly at the blackened skies above. Dark ambient dreams from out of The Borderlands of Scotland, created by Roddy Graham. His project has previously had releases in both digital and physical formats on the Lake, Noctivagant and Kalpamantra labels. Mastered by Robin Storey (Rapoon).
Ltd x 200 copies in a gatefold digisleeve with graphic design by Abby Helasdottir (Gydja). |
ERIKM & HANATSUMIROIR - 'Échoplasme' CD + Book (Bisou) - £18
Échoplasme... or bringing out the invisible, summoning ghosts, is a new multidisciplinary work by the duo of eRikm and hanatsuMIROIR, who
have been collaborating since 2010.
"The antechamber where we had met was a cramped, windowless space. The room swelled with funereal waves under a neon sky. In this tormented atmosphere, the strange feeling of not being three, but four entities, was the trigger for Échoplasme. Flautist Ayako Okubo seemed to share the same feeling: she cautiously confided to me that it was certainly a yokai. Yokai can be a spirit, an object or an animal. They often manifest themselves first, by noises in the dark" (eRikm).
"This release deals with the Japanese supernatural creatures of the Yokai. Ayako Okubu plays the contrabass flute, which has many twists and turns to get to the contrabass octaves. Low whispers, flattering, clicking of the keys, and talking into the mouthpiece, makes for an eerie sound. Add to that the percussion played by Olivier Maurel, sometimes electromagnetically enhanced or transformed; you get an uncomfortable and brooding sound environment. Finally, there is the layer added by eRikm, electronic soundscapes. And the cherry on the cake are the narrators who tell stories, or just words or phrases concerning the Yokai, or perhaps mimic a Yokai. There's a detached quality about the music, in a good way. Ghost music pur sang. Or, in English full blooded ghost music, is most fitting given the subject. I recommend listening to this in a dark room... Outstanding work" (Vital Weekly).
CD in card sleeve, in an 80-page perfect-bound book with visuals created by eRikm - "This series of inks and scans is a non-exhaustive selection made during the 2020 syndemy. With the dryness of my inks, these necromantic blandices have dissolved". Watch Échoplasme. |
GENESIS P-ORRIDGE - 'Lucifer' Cassette (Kieh! Kieh!) - £12
Second edition of this limited cassette from last year. Taken from the archive of The Process Church of the Final Judgment, "Gods on War" is an essay about war from the perspective of Lucifer. Robert Moore and Mary Ann Maclean met through Scientology, married and took the name de Grimston. They founded The Process in the mid-60's, later separating themselves from the group and giving themselves the name "The Omega"; within the Process Robert is referred to as "the Teacher" and Mary Ann as "the Oracle". Written in the 60's by The Omega it reveals how the Gods Jehovah, Lucifer and Satan have vowed apocalyptic vengeance against man. Read by Genesis P-Orridge (Psychic TV, Throbbing Gristle) in 2011. Black or yellow cassette shell. Very few in stock - act fast! |
GHÉDALIA TAZARTÈS - 'Gospel Et Le Râteau' CD (Bisou) - £12
Ghédalia Tazartès left us in February 2021 just as Bisou were finalized the editing and the cover art of his new album with him. Unfortunately he will never see the finished object. This record is therefore particularly important. He opened his archives to select unpublished pieces, organising them in two long suites. This work took almost two years (finding the pieces among dozens of sometimes very old CDRs, checking that these pieces had not already been published, processing the sound to obtain an aesthetic unity and a coherent order, etc). This record is therefore a melting pot of unreleased tracks which cover a large part of his career. The lyrics include Ghédalia's own personal poetry and music he wrote for two texts by Antonin Artaud and Émile Verhaeren, that he performs in an avant-garde / intense way. Ghédalia really loved a series of photographs by Isabelle Magnon at a 2018 exhibition and immediately asked to use them for the cover of a future album. It is therefore these photos which illustrate Ghédalia Tazartès' final album.

JEAN-MARC FOUSSAT & CLAUDE PARLE & QUENTIN ROLLET & MAKOTO SATO - 'Espace En L'Espèce' CD (ReQords) - £11.50
Four seasoned musicians improvised for an hour-long over four lengthy pieces (the shortest is 8 minutes, the longest is 20 minutes). A riveting sound world is created using accordion, modular synth, percussion, saxophone and occasional voices. The title translates as "space in this case" and is very apt. Makato Sato has played with Alan Silva, Linda Sharrock, and Joe McPhee. Claude Perle has played with Don Cherry, among many others. Jean-Marc Foussat has worked with Evan Parker. Quentin Rollet is known for a wealth of collaborations with the likes of Edward Ka-Spel, Steven Stapleton, Romain Perrot, Thierry Müller, and many more... and is also Bisou boss. "Listening to this release, I lost track of time. Even when things get a bit more dense and wild, there's still a sense of space and openness. Halfway through the first track, there's a meditative passage with a nice drone-like ostinato in the accordion with slow-changing chords. I can't find the right words to describe this music. It's eerie at times, slow, fast-moving with lightning-fast runs in accordion and sax, melodic at times, and extra-ordinary percussion work by Sato. If there's one release you want to hear this week where impro meets modern classical music, this is it" (Vital Weekly).

KONSTANTIN RAUDIVE - 'Breakthrough' Cassette (Kieh! Kieh!) - £12
An amazing experiment in electronic communication with the dead. Konstantin Raudive (1909-1974) was a Latvian writer and intellectual. Throughout his life, he held a strong interest in the field of parapsychology and was particularly intrigued by the possibility of an afterlife. Raudive devoted much of his research to investigating Electronic Voice Phenomena (EVP) and in 1971 published a book on the subject entitled "Breakthrough". EVP refers to instances of audible voices on electronic recordings, which are often interpreted as originating from a paranormal source, such as spirits. This tape features early recordings of EVP, which provide listeners with an opportunity to hear ghosts. Dr. Raduive's commentary translated and spoken by Nadia Fowler. Orange or white cassette shell with insert. Very few in stock - act fast! |
NAM-KHAR & VORTEX - 'Nag-Hammadi' 2 x LP (Winter-Light) - £28
Deluxe vinyl edition of last year's CD by German ritual ambient bands Nam-Khar (Winter-Light / Zazen Sounds) and Vortex (Cyclic Law / Tesco Organisation), joining forces to draw inspiration from the Nag Hammadi scriptures and their spiritual and cultural context. They fused their distinctive sounds to create a careful interpretation of the source texts from a pan-religious and spiritual perspective, resulting in hypnotic soundscapes and rhythmic patterns. The idea of this album concept is to maintain the spirit of ancient and mostly forgotten paths of wisdom to a contemporary audience. It is dedicated to the spiritual seeker. The Nag Hammadi scriptures (also known as the Nag Hammadi library) are a collection of early Christian texts that are mainly attributable to the Gnosis and were never integrated in official versions of the bible. They were found by local farmers near the small Egyptian town of Nag Hammadi in December of 1945 and probably date from 1st-4th centuries. These codices may have belonged to a nearby Pachomian monastery and were buried after Saint Athanasius condemned the use of non-canonical books in his Festal Letter of 367 A.D. The discovery of these texts significantly influenced knowledge of early Christianity and Gnosticism. Mastered for vinyl by Robin Storey (Rapoon). Ltd x 200 copies in a matt-laminate gatefold sleeve, with download card. |
NATALIA BEYLIS & EIMEAR REIDY - 'She Came Through the Window to Stand by the Door' CD (Nyahh Records) - £12
Brand new CD edition of the limited vinyl released earlier this year. Following on from their critically acclaimed first release "Whose Woods These Are", the second album by cellist Eimear Reidy and keys player Natalia Beylis was recorded at St Georges Church, Carrick On Shannon, Leitrim on a cold early January with a William Telford Organ. Built in 1846, it is reputed to be the second oldest organ in Ireland. 'Pour Upon The Sky' is a story told by the two voices of cello and organ. Influenced by the rhetorical style of 18th century vocal music, the cello and organ are both intertwined and interdependent, playing the bass line and harmonies together and providing a foundation for the rest of the ensemble while soloists come in and out. 'The Whistling Dust' is a slow steady study of the microscopic flutters of the organs and the organ. The heart of the Telford rattles and breathes as the cello dances in and out. When Natalia and Eimear began working on these pieces in the cold January, the Telford, which seemed like it had been sitting quietly for quite some time, shook and trembled as its insides were awoken. 'The Whistling Dust' speaks to the moment when the instrument moved alive, every opened stop knob of the pipes bringing the feel of the microsounds of the machine closer and closer as the cello offers utterances of encouragement. Their incredibly beautiful interactions - eerie, droning, archaic - bring locations into being, pulling blustery, craggy, landscapes out of your subconscious. Features the bonus CD-only track "Encircled In Moss". Gatefold digisleeve. |
PATIENT OMEGA - 'Broken Mind In A Rotting Body' CD (Misantropia Records) - £12
Patient Omega takes you on a twisted journey into mental disorder and brooding darkness, filled with the stench of death. Dark ambient delivered in three long acts (over 76 minutes). "[The album] echoes dereliction, desolation and emptiness: drawn-out metallic drones, clangs in the distance, hollow echoes through steel tubes, mystic voices from the distance. These might be the sounds of an abandoned, decayed mental asylum. Pretty classic dark ambient, full of vaguely disconcerting, haunting atmospheres and mysterious, eerie moods... Layers of calm, even harmonious and soothing astral synths full of the endless expanses of space; of traversing spheres and planes of existence, witnessing unfathomable sights... Going from eerie desolation to the wonder of endless darkness, the album's long, winding tracks are like journeys through vast vistas of mental landscapes; from haunted ruins to the eerie emptiness of eternity." (Only Death Is Real). Digipak. |
PAUL BARAN - 'Pan Global Riot' 2 x CD (Fang Bomb) - £13.50
Paul Baran is the hidden master of Scottish experimental and electroacoustic music, an ignorer of boundaries and a fuser of genres. In this age of constant engagement, Baran's "Pan Global Riot" takes on the necessary task of assessing the now. A ton of collaborators appear on the album, utilising an array of classical instrumentation, synthesizers (modular and other), organ, piano and electronics, recorded between Glasgow and Stockholm. This might be the only album you'll hear this year where a pure acousmatic ambition mingles with politics and p-funk. Paul Barran is also one half of The Cray Twins (with Gordon Kennedy, who also co-produced this album). Double CD in bespoke foldout packaging: black only print on high quality, coloured card. |
PYREFICATIVM - 'Sól' Anægphomœh' CD (Zazen Sounds) - £12
This album from Chilean dystopian and philosophical muziek act Pyreficativm is intended to be one of the last ritualistic pieces within the chronological amalgam of abstract sounds in Dark Ritual Ambient. The last aberrant orchestration with a much greater vent challenge raised by the use of funeral instruments and ritual artifacts, it has made it a funeral ekstasis that has been deployed towards various edges of the ch'thonic hysterical spheres. "Sól Anægphomœh" forms a funeral night procession that links diluted articulations in the abstraction of binural sounds, the cranking characters of the twilight with archaic uninherited spirits of Agni... This piece manages to cause a solemn impact of hysterical acts in the vivid halls of Aries and the ancient Drakonian oceans. Encapsulating this magnanimous orchestration in the various parameters of physical ritualization, mudralical aspects of the ancient traditions and primitive sorcery. Gatefold digisleeve. Already sold out from the label! |
QUENTIN ROLLET & JAMES WORSE - 'A Fothermass Abominesque' CD (ReQords) - £12
This is the first collaboration by the two Nurse With Wound collaborators - Paris-based Quentin Rollet and Melbourne-based James Worse. Quentin has played with many musicians including the Red Krayola, the Legendary Pink Dots, and Nurse With Wound. He plays the alto sax and the sopranino, the smallest saxophone in the original saxophone family. James Worse has also worked with Nurse With Wound, Andrew Liles, Expose Your Eyes, and more. He plays percussion and spoken word on some of the tracks here, with both using electronics. "Processed percussion, cut up and dosed in smaller pieces to the listener, sometimes creating a groove at some point and getting slightly distorted over time, as in A Toxic Whimsleybottom. Worse's voice gets distorted (in parallel) as well, creating a sound world that is familiar and simultaneously very alien. Hints of melodies form, get repeated a few times and fade away to be followed by expertly controlled chaos. The words or lyrics James Worse has written are made-up stories with made-up words in the best Fluxus tradition. Non-sensical but loaded with meaning, which is a paradox, of course. The music ranges from atonal tone sequences to tonal melodies. 'Smollows', for example, is almost like a ballad. It's a lovely experience residing in this sound world conjured up by these experienced musicians. Excellent release!"
(Vital Weekly). Digisleeve with cover by Babs Santini (Steven Stapleton). |
ROMAIN PERROT (VOMIR) & QUENTIN ROLLET - 'Le Vieux Fusible / The Singles' 2 x CD (ReQords) - £15.50
Romain Perrot (of HNW project Vomir) teams up with Quentin Rollet (Bisou boss) for this double CD presenting their second collaborative album "Le Vieux Fusible", plus a second bonus CD, "The Singles", which collects material from two 8" lathe cut records, a 3" CD and a 23-minute live recording with Richard Frances on synthesizer. "Perrot and Rollet provide a spine-tingling approach towards total musical freedom, going from gnarly, yet surprisingly harmonic analogue Noize to retro-futurist bleeps and washed out, intrinsically psychedelia-infused melodies to sequences of Jazz romanticisms paired with electronic interventions, bring out crackly Cold War Ambient in "Revendeur A La Soviet" before going all out Dark Synth in the spatial atmospheric Electronica minimalisms of "Le Souper Des Litieres" whilst bits like "Lightning Pylone Dislocation" hark back to ultra lo-fi Rhythm Industrial, "Brain" reveals unspoken of psychotic horrors and might not be played to infants, children and the emotionally unstable whereas "Anrchie" amalgamates subdued, yearning sax tones, freeform metallic rhythms and an ever thickening maelstrom of crackly atmospheric Noize just to name a few. This is intense". (Nite Style). Comes in a 6-panel digisleeve with artwork by Clara Villechaise. |
SOPH EON - 'Mystherion Kedesh' CD (Zazen Sounds) - £12
Soph Eon symbolises a separation from Zoroastrian and many other arts under the halo of Chilean Ritual Dark Ambient act Pyreficativm. This new entity commands the primordial forces of the dark side of Eden together with a strong Antinomical symbolism, both emissaries are colonised by various transcendental forces that reintegrate into the compositional core of Soph Eon, making an incision within various magical and practical empiricisms towards primitive sorcery, ancient tradition, hypnagogical schemes of the dragon and hidden forces of Ch'thonical circumference. The use of organic funerary artifacts such as kanglings, bronzes, cymbals and various rattles made from ancient seeds and Tibetan instruments that provide a cascade of holographic sounds together with the instrumentation of binaural droning synths. Gatefold digisleeve. Already sold out from the label! |
THE SUSPENDED APPARITION - 'It's Sealed Inside The Church' CD (Misantropia Records) - £12
The ultra haunting dark ambient debut from M.W. Daniels explores his long-time fascination with the paranormal. Ice cold drones, strange voices and an overwhelming atmosphere of horror. The Suspended Apparition began in the winter of 2022; the idea had long been something that its creator and composer Daniels had wanted to bring to fruition. His huge fascination with master composers Krzysztof Penderecki, György Ligeti and Edgard Varése next to outlandish English underground classics such as Current 93's "Nature Unveiled" and Nurse with Wound's "Homotopy To Marie", coupled with his long interest in the supernatural, led to him to set about composing the music that became The Suspended Apparition. The electronic compositions themselves all work with space, choir, strings and many other uncharted sounds to create a beyond eerie sound world that harks back to the aforementioned elders of composition while moving into another area entirely, a more alien area you could say. Includes a bonus CD-only homage to Borley Rectory, the "most haunted house in England". Ltd x 200 copies. |
WAELTAJA - 'Heremite' CD (Misantropia Records) - £12
Cold northern dungeon synth / dark ambient in the vein of Mortiis or Burzum. "The soundscapes are lush, warm, harmonious and soothing. Sampled wind sounds and birdsong only serve to heighten this sense of peace and serenity. Whilst the compositions are standard fare in the [dungeon synth] genre, with slowly evolving layers of synths more than actual melodies, and with a definite penchant for the understated and the minimalist, Waeltaja makes things interesting with skilled use of small details... This is the music of majestic, still forests, mighty mountains, gurgling forest streams and vast, windswept plains" (Only Death Is Real). Digipak. |

Ancient tribes and civilisations such as The Dogon, The Egyptians and the Sumerians to name a few, claim to have had contact with extraterrestrials from the Sirius star system (Sirius A, B & C) anywhere from 5,000-10,000 years ago. These ancient civilisations obtained advanced and extensive knowledge on the occult, physics, astronomy. mathematics etc without any modern technology, this knowledge was mostly likely given to them by extraterrestrials. The Dogon claim that they have a secret portal that directly connects them to the Sirius star system where they also describe that it is the place where many departed souls dwell. These 10 deep tracks from New York's Ajna evoke the mystery of how humans have contacted and/or have been contacted by otherworldly entities since the dawn of time. "Quintessential electroacoustic and cinematic ambient music... heavy on synth-based drones, with rattling elements and processed random noise spectra ...long-held notes ultimately dominate, exhibiting many textures and tones, all dark and haunting... cosmic in nature, but with a lingering sense of danger" (Avant Music News). Ltd x 300 copies in a gatefold digisleeve. |
KLOOB & ONASANDER - 'Tempestarii' CD (Winter-Light) - £11.50
Following on from their excellent "Mundus Patet" collaboration, Kloob and Onasander offer a new album of deep and turbulent dark ambient. In medieval lore, Tempestarii were weather magicians, who claimed the power of controlling the winds by means of incantations. Dwelling amongst the common people these sorcerers possessed the power to raise or prevent storms and were capable of summoning up a storm to blight crops. Agobard, the archbishop of Lyons, wrote in 820 that in his diocese, people believed in the possibility of tempest-making by witches. Anyone reputed to be a weather-maker was the subject of respect, fear and hatred, dependent on the storm's outcome. Agobard also made reference to the belief among some of his parishioners, that Tempestarii were in league with a mythical race of cloud-dwellers from the land known as Magonia. These mythical sailors of the clouds would supposedly pay Tempestarii to summon up storms, during which the Magicians would swoop down and steal harvests of corn and grain. Ltd x 200 copies in a matt-laminate gatefold digisleeve. |
ONASANDER & ASHTORETH - 'Devotio' CD (Winter-Light) - £11.50
Ashtoreth and Onasander combine forces to bring an album of ritualistic dark ambient. Devotio was a sacrifice, promise or gift to a deity in return for a request, in which the Roman commander promised to devote his life to chthonic gods in battle with the enemy in return for the victory of their own troops. The most famous devotio in Roman history is probably that of the consul Publius Decius Mus, who was fighting a battle against a coalition of Samnites and Gauls at Sentinum in 295 BCE. According to the Roman historian Livy, he dedicated himself to the gods of the Underworld and rode, on horseback, to his enemies, who killed him. Ltd x 300 copies in a gatefold digisleeve with graphic design by Abby Helasdottir (Gydja). |

GENOCIDE ORGAN - 'MaunduNi-Mau' LP (Tesco Organisation) - £28
Much sought-after album from the Power Electronics / Death Industrial legends, repressed after quickly selling out earlier this year. After "KwaZulu-NaTal" and "UmKhonto-We-Siz We", Genocide Organ closes the Afri-KaN-Triangle with "MaunduNi-Mau". It took about 10 years for G.O. to come back from the heart of darkness. In the elapsed time, body parts and remains were counted. There were too many corpses. Unfortunately, not everyone came back. Nothing is forgotten, no-one lives in secret, some sounds reverberate only in the brain. "This document tells of the time as we experienced it, we don't give a sh*t about what is said about it today. The memory lives in us as and we don't allow it to be rewritten afterward". Ltd x 250 copies with hand-numbered insert. |
DERNIÈRE VOLONTÉ - 'Cristal' LP BLACK (Silences Et Gresillements) - £26
DERNIÈRE VOLONTÉ - 'Cristal' LP SWAMP GREEN (Silences Et Gresillements) - £26
Dernière Volonté's ninth album comes three years after the highly acclaimed "Frontière". Ten new tracks of bright and gloomy electronics at its best. "Ceremonial synthwave with humble and powerful melodies... seemingly more austere martial rhythms, "Cristal" is another personal album for the band. The themes touch on loneliness, the passage of time, the emotional roller-coaster of personal relationships. The mighty synth melodies hit all the right chords and the (by now) signature minimal rhythms make sure we are eased into each song... there are areas of great emotional tension in the lyrics, which are sonically illuminated by the lightness of the synth melodies... From an industrial sensuality to a synthwave one, the darkwave, cinematic, industrial staccato of "Frontière" has now taken the form of synth-based melancholic melodies... There can be no comparison between the generosity, almost unconscious kindness, of the feelings that melody awakens and those that the 'colder' industrial rhythms resurface" (Blaue Rosen). Dedicated to Albin Julius (1967 - 2022). Black vinyl with download card / 'Swamp Green' coloured vinyl version of the above release. Ltd x 250 copies with download card. |
SONOLOGYST - 'Electrons' CD (Unexplained Sounds) - £12
Sonologyst celebrates ten years of working under this banner with the expanded reissue of a digital-only release from 2016. The music was recorded using analogue synthesizers, finding inspiration in the world of electrons. "His music is very much in the realm of experimental electronics, in which we find traces of pure drone music, early electronics and on "Electrons" also a bit of noise. The latter he keeps to a minimum, and it works more in the background, adding weight to some of the more upfront delicacies. Even if I take a more romantic notion of electrons, I see this as a work of buzzing and whirring electronics cobbled together and forming a web of its own... You see a general pattern, but there are smaller threads, making new connections that only become apparent later on. There might be a retro feeling here; I am thinking of an old science fiction movie in black and white and Sonologyst providing the rusty soundtrack of it. Dark and reflective, but no doubt, space music. A man shrunk to an invisible size and walked down machines where everything cable and knob was alive. More than the previous works from Sonologyst, field recording seem to play no role, and it is all pure electronics... a damn fine album" (Vital Weekly). Remastered and featuring a new track, "LHC" recorded specificially for this reissue. Ltd x 200 copies in a digipak. |
VIDNA OBMANA - 'Dante Trilogy: Tremor . Spore . Legacy' 3 x CD (Zoharum) - £18
Working for almost 25 years as Vidna Obmana, Dirk Serries has never shied away from challenges. When he was offered a record deal with the renowned metal label Relapse Records / Release Entertainment, Vidna Obmana took his boldest step ever. With his 'Dante' trilogy he created his most ambitious, daring and unique set of albums which made him one of the most unique voices in the ambient and experimental scene at his creative peak. Not only did this bring Vidna Obmana to a definite conclusion but executed that perfect fusion of everything his project stood for since the first release in 1984. His industrialism, the minimal ambience, the fourth world explorations and his electronic processing experiments went into blender. Utterly surreal, intense and expansive, the three albums "Tremor", "Spore" and "Legacy" conceptually express Dirk Serries' frustration, disappointment and creative turmoil as his role as Vidna Obmana in the ambient scene. This trilogy became that end of the road for probably his most critically-acclaimed and worldwide appreciated project but a change was necessary. These albums solidified his connection to the metal and heavier guitar scene and the next chapter in Serries' obsessive quest for that sublime in sound and mood was born: Fear Falls Burning. Now fully remastered, making every complex detail stand out even more, the music (according to Vidna Obmana), was especially recorded to experience on a qualitive set of headphones. Ltd x 400 copies in an 8-panel triple digipak with breathtaking photography by Martina Verhoeven. |
AM NOT - 'Cold + Disloyal' 2 x CD (Unrest Productions) - £17.50
UK Power Electronics / Industrial act AM NOT present ten new songs about dispossession, disembodiment and dissolution for another ice age. The prudent and sovereign unchain themselves from the social zombie and head for the exit. They liquidate anachronisms and reshape matter into objects of pure fluid desire extending the human project beyond the limits of death and flesh. For The losers and left-behinds, nothing remains of what they were once forced to share as they face a future among the ruins. They tear it all down in their impotent fury, the heat from a dying sun making them ever more sick. No exit, no voice, no loyalty. So dissipate and grow cold as Antarctica, the Seabed and the asteroid belt. Fortune favours those who calculate. Cold by nature and cold by destination. Guests: Abscheu, Alice Deptiva, Ever Orchid, and Hermann Kopp. Comes in a glossy 6-panel double digipak with 8-page booklet. |
JOE COLLEY - 'Acting As If' 10" (Substantia Innominata / Drone Records) - £16
Joe Colley (Crawl Unit) is a master of using mechanical object sounds and electronic static, but also strange lo-fi found sources and field recordings, creating alienating, surrealistic effects, similar to the likes of Small Cruel Party, Jim Haynes, Das Synthetische Mischgewebe, or even the more experimental side of Zoviet France. His newer compositions are filled with electro-magnetic hummings, strange hissing and the pourings of metallic objects as a basis, but you never find the use real instruments, synths, or masses of effect procession. Thus a very own scent of mystery appears, as all of these radiations are not really from this planet, without any "cosmic" connotations. For the creator, these sounds are connected with unreal emotions of "Being Lost", a mistrust in what may be called reality, and a general feeling of alienation. You can only wonder how this can result in such beautiful droning expanses. Through these strange 30 minutes of drones, the mind is thrown inside an unrecognizable and confusing realm of broken electricity and something like audible-made atmospheric pressure. "His swarming masses, throttled rumbling, and smoldering tension are all encircling and folding in on themselves. Rhizomes of sound that speak poison. Drink up, if it doesn't kill you, it will only make you stronger" (Jim Haynes). Ltd x 300 copies with artwork by MEEUW, featuring special silver print on reverse board sleeve. |
VARIOUS ARTISTS - 'Deep Red: A Tribute To The Cinema Of Dario Argento' CD (Eighth Tower Records / Unexplained Sounds) - £12
Ever since his heart-stopping directorial debut "The Bird With The Crystal Plumage" (1970), cult Italian director Dario Argento has been redrawing the boundaries of cinematic horror with flamboyant violence, feverish plotting, and deliriously stylized compositions. Argento was initially associated with giallo, the pulpy Italian subgenre he helped formalize and later take to unprecedented heights with his international breakthrough, "Deep Red" (1975), and subsequent hit "Suspiria". He embraces a gamut of fantastical influences - from sublime Gothic art and penny dreadfuls to Murnau, Hitchcock, and Disney with his distinctively baroque style of disorientating cinematography, stained-glass colourwork, a seductive deep dive into our dark psychologies, and elaborate musical scores (often composed by his own rotating house group, Goblin). As far as horror film directors go, few are more influential and prolific than Dario Argento. To celebrate the cinema of Argento, worldwide artists give musical interpretations of his movies and his "dark giallo" universe: Previously unreleased music by: Michael Bonaventure, Grey Frequency, Rapoon, Joel Gilardini, 400 Lonely Things, David Strother & Carl Royce, Gianluca Becuzzi, Kloob, Mario Lino Stancati, Arrighi-Bocci-Fontana-Lepore, and Pluhm. Ltd x 200 copies in a 6-panel digipak. |
BOB BELLERUE - 'Radioactive Desire' 2 x CD (Elevator Bath) - £14.50
Recorded on the hottest days in the longest year, "Radioactive Desire" is a work for free chamber music in feedback environments. Simple improvisational structures gave focus to the exquisite playing of the musicians, and the performers were physically located within speakers of varying sizes to create multidimensional feedback systems.
It is a project borne of feedback between speakers and instruments, but the context in which it came to fruition demonstrated the deep interconnections between people and systems of collaboration. The project was a visceral way to activate musical signals with the push and pull of chthonic energy. Working with these sounds, processes, and ideas provided substance and process for me to work through these difficult times. A group of deep shredders in the avant-garde improvised extended cosmic free music worlds, the musicians began with the handwritten notes by New York's Bob Bellerue that provided the scant written music, creating new forms of music in real time. "The music is intense on every level, and there is a great underlying tension in these pieces, a mysterious force if you will" (Vital Weekly). Ltd x 300 copies in a stunning 8-panel double-digipak, with multifold insert including photos and liner notes. |
HATTIFNATTAR - 'Watcher Of The Skies' CD (Satatuhatta) - £11.50
The new album from French noise artist Hattifnattar (aka Rémi Dazet, of Violent Shogun, Mold etc) created from field recordings, Serge modular synths, tape loops, and a broken mixer. A post-harsh noise work that uses field recordings from Bordeaux, France and deserted places all over Iceland as base material, resulting in a strangely harsh work. "Imagine yourself in a distant cabin, surrounded by cold wilderness. Power lines are splitting the landscapes like electronic highways, loudly buzzing and crackling in the air. Soon a blizzard is roaming outside, freezing winds hammering the window shields and clattering the loose roofing. Cold trying to push its way through narrow openings of the wall into the warmth of the cabin. A snow storm is blocking the view from the window, starting to slowly resemble static noise from the analogue TV. The kettle is whistling for boiling water but the sound begins shifting to unusual frequencies. Without open sky and fixed stars to locate, it feels like the universe is collapsing inside a cabin. Isolation. Slowly everything natural is beginning to seem unnatural. Organic sounds are twisting, voices mangling out of shape, textures frying, nothing seems to be what it is. Electromagnetic interference hum from the radio transmitter is the only grounding factor to reality. Everything is hidden in details". 6-panel digipak. |
NATALIA BEYLIS & EIMEAR REIDY - 'She Came Through the Window to Stand by the Door' LP Coloured (Nyahh Records) - £26
Pressed onto recycled vinyl chips, meaning all records are a different colour. |
