MERZBOW - 'Cafe OTO'
2CD £11.50 - OUT 3 NOV

A documentation of prolific Japanese noise master Merzbow's double show at London's Cafe OTO in October 2016.
Rhythm-driven and rammed with highly sculpted frequencies, Akita's sound is entirely remorseless.
Furious squalls and delicate sine-warps post this one on the more psychedelic end of Akita's output. Truly relentless, it is still hard to believe he created "Untitled Knife I" on a casual Saturday afternoon. Be careful with that volume...
"Performed on what looked like a hand-built guitar-like instrument and aided by a table full of electronics, all controlled by the legendary Japanese artist. The concert was very much about the physical impact of the sound. At several points during the set I could feel the fabric of my jeans and jacket vibrating from the extreme frequencies played at excessive volume... an intense and constant sonic attack" (Irregular Notes On Music).
Double CD in a matt-finish gatefold ecopak with photography by Masami Akita. |
BILL LASWELL & PETE NAMLOOK - 'Outland'
6CD Boxset £38 - OUT NOW!

The 'Outland' album series was a collaborative endeavour by the visionary US bassist-producer Bill Laswell and the late German musician Pete Namlook that pushed the boundaries of dark ambient and electronic music.
Spanning five albums released over a thirteen year period from 1994, this new boxset serves as a testament to the creative synergy between the two masterminds.
At the time the duo joined forces, the New York-based Bill Laswell was already a famous producer with a massive client list that included cutting-edge rock, pop, funk, jazz and electronic artists, but he had also founded the Axiom label in 1989 and been responsible for groundbreaking work in genres that included ambient, dub and world music. Pete Namlook was recognised as a pioneering figure in the ambient techno scene, having founded the label FAX +49-69/450464 in his native Frankfurt in 1992.
'Outland' became a fusion of their individual musical sensibilities that resulted in a unique set of releases. At the heart of the series is an exploration of sound as a vehicle for emotion and contemplation, with Laswell's signature basslines and experimental soundscapes interweaving seamlessly with Namlook's ethereal textures and intricate sonic layering. Each album is characterised by a sense of expansiveness, taking listeners on a voyage through rarely charted sonic dimensions. All have the ability to evoke a wide range of emotions and have their own distinctive sonic palette, ranging from ambient tranquility to cosmic intensity.
'Outland' has endured as an influential touchstone, its impact felt not only in its captivating soundscapes but also in its invitation to engage in deep introspection and cosmic contemplation. With each album, the duo beckoned listeners to transcend the mundane and embark on a sonic voyage into the extraordinary, where sound becomes a conduit for spiritual and artistic expression.
The lavish matte-finish boxset opens to the 5 "Outland" albums in separate matte sleeves, with all-new designs, and all audio completely remastered. This box also contains a new addition to the OUTLAND series - an album of dense, bass space drone by Bill Laswell, entitled "Blackland". The boxset also contains an exclusive card with an essay about the project written by BIll Laswell, July 2023. |
BURIAL HEX - 'In Hiding'
CD £11 - OUT NOW!

A carefully curated selection of the crucial compilation tracks from Horror Electronics / Post-Industrial project BURIAL HEX, gathering and remastering them together, striving to create a resonance between disparate sources, forming an extraordinary new experience.
After nearly 20 years of activity from this restless project, many Burial Hex compilation tracks have been released, often of a very unique and high quality as Clay Ruby seemed to enjoy taking compilation submission requests as an opportunity to offer new perspectives on their already bizarre and eclectic work.
Many of the tracks were from cassettes, vinyl, or digital-only releases for labels such as Brave Mysteries, Aurora Borealis, Clan Destine, Small Doses, and Buh, appearing here on CD for the first time - or in the case of 'Pentitential March', never-before released. Clay Ruby has remixed each track, in some cases re-envisioning them specifically to live together coherently in this incarnation, making this collection more like a new studio album rather than another anthology compilation.
Revelling in the intimate, feral surrealism that we have come to know without parallel from this intoxicating project, "In Hiding" is an excellent view into the romantic Promethean theater of Burial Hex, whether for the neophyte or the adept.
FFO: Coil, SPK, Psychic TV, Trepaneringsritualen.
CD in matt-laminate digipak with artwork by Nathaniel Ritter (Kinit Her).

SATØRI - 'The Woods'
CD £11 - OUT NOW!

Formed in the mid-80's, with previous releases on high-calibre labels such as Broken Flag, Cold Spring, Trident, Mindscan, and Tesco Organisation, Industrial / Power Electronics veteran SATØRI returns with a new dark and disturbing journey into the very depths of human horror.
"Debris in the corners; steel shavings and teeth..."
Using his love of pure noise, harsh synths and brutal percussion, SATØRI has created a dystopian cinematic soundscape in which it would be entirely possible to lose your very soul.
While the last two releases concentrated on what could be described as "observations on humanity's ability to drag itself down to its lowest common denominator", this new work focuses on a more localised depravity - that of the lone wolf. An individual who, having no moral compass, has no boundaries to cross.
"...there is something wrong here"
An overcast autumn afternoon in the forest and a light rain crackles the fallen leaves. The camera, low to the ground, follows behind a pair of well-worn work boots as they approach a rundown shack deep in the undergrowth. As we move closer the air seems to thicken. To the side is what appears to be a shed or garage. Wooden double doors rotten at the base but firmly chained and padlocked. The camera moves to the front and rises to eye level. Hands reach out to undo the locks. For some inescapable reason we know that inside we are going to find pure unadulterated evil.
Welcome to The Woods.

A collaborative album by Drew Daniel (Matmos, The Soft Pink Truth) and John Wiese (Sissy Spacek, Smegma, LHD,).
"Continuous Hole" melds improvisation and musique concrète composition into a uniquely sweaty document of labour-intensive rhythm. A finger puzzle of reconciled opposites: lockstep structure, constant flux.
Relentlessly variable source material is relegated to precisely timed gated forms and patterns. Without using any sampling or MIDI sequencing, rhythmic cuts are constructed entirely from volcanic, gnarled abstraction, eschewing typical genre elements.
Raw yet precise, from mayhem to menace, this is a album of strong contrasts from two American artists discovering common ground in the joy of frenzied cutting.
Matt-laminate 6-panel digipak with photography by John Wiese.

Reissue of seminal early 1980's electronic recordings from the British Electric Foundation (B.E.F.), aka HEAVEN 17 / ex-THE HUMAN LEAGUE's Martyn Ware and Ian Craig Marsh, with Adi Newton (CLOCK DVA / THE FUTURE), and John Wilson (HEAVEN 17), originally a cassette-only release (1981).
• Ltd x 500 copies on 180g Electric Blue LP (Cold Spring only) | LP Black | CD
Following two groundbreaking albums ('Reproduction' and 'Travelogue'), the original line-up of Sheffield-based The Human League split in half in late 1980. The two primary musicians in the group, Martyn Ware and Ian Craig Marsh, formed a new production company - the British Electric Foundation (B.E.F.). The artists they were to produce would include Heaven 17, their own new band formed with vocalist Glenn Gregory.
This music was among the first recorded by Martyn and Ian directly after their departure from The Human League.

Available on CD (or any other format) for the first time outside USSR, Soviet composers perform their works on the legendary ANS synthesizer.
Recorded in 1971, "MUSICAL OFFERING" is 6 tracks (42 mins) of experiments on the unique machine by: Eduard Artemiev (2 tracks), Oleg Buloshkin, Sofia Gubaidulina, Edison Denisov, and Alfred Schnittke.
"MUSICAL OFFERING" demonstrates a 'musical' machine unlike any other and has long fascinated cutting edge, modern electronic composers, notably COIL and THE ANTI GROUP COMMUNICATIONS (TAGC) / CLOCK DVA, that have both released recordings utilising the ANS.
A composer can not only create but also draw their music on glass discs, without notes To listen to the picture, press the button and a wonderful transformation will begin.
Digipak with the new artwork by Abby Helasdottir, complimenting the ANS process perfectly.

The ultimate deep listening experience from two masters of dark ambient. A slow descent into the blackened watery abyss, where light cannot reach.
The first Sleep Research Facility release since 2012's "Stealth" (Cold Spring). Inspired by the deep sea ocean floor, the Canadian-based composer explores notions of awareness and perception in the sub/unconscious listener. The material was created specifically for this release.
Taking inspiration from the beautiful, but often harsh landscapes and environments of his home on Anglesey, North Wales, Llyn Y Cwn has built on the nautical theme of "Du Y Moroedd" (Cold Spring). These tracks are based on field recordings relating to the ocean, and could be seen as a companion piece to the album.
Ltd LP on audiophile black vinyl. CD in mini-LP sleeve, replicating LP design. Features a separate front cover design with individual art for each side.

The new album from 400 LONELY THINGS, produced by WILLIAM BASINSKI, is a dark ambient, sample-based séance to the Banning Mill - a real-life decaying "mansion" and haven for artists, freaks and misfits in the backwoods of the American Deep South in the 1970s-1990s - and an extraordinary piece of art that lived there.
An archaeological excursion in found sound - wandering through the art and memory of a real place, "Mother Moon" is an origin story for 400 Lonely Things. An imaginary soundtrack to the many years of solitude Richard Scott Hill's Minotauress spent hanging in the musty, secret winding halls of Banning Mill.
Melancholic instrumentals with weathered sampling at its core.
Presented in a 6-panel spot-varnished digipak.
Order via Bandcamp to receive a bonus 44-page supplemental digital book.

AJNA - 'Inevitable Mortality' 2 x CD (Zoharum) - £15
"Inevitable Mortality" was originally released in a microprint of just 50 x CDR copies thanks to Reverse Alignment.
This double CD-proper edition contains the same material, and is extended by another 6 hitherto unpublished compositions, created in the same period. Thanks to this, the album sounds coherent and is a great complement to the discography with a position that has been difficult to obtain until now. An absolute must have for listeners who like to lose themselves listening to dark ambient music of the highest quality. "Inevitable Mortality" was created in a rather interesting period of the U.S. musician, just ahead of the release "Black Monolith" - a collaboration with Dronny Darko, which established the position of both artists on this scene. AJNA has since cooperated with renowned Dark Ambient labels Winter-Light, Cryo Chamber, and Cyclic Law. Mastered by Chris Sigdell (B°TONG). Ltd x 300 copies in a 6-panel ecopak. |
ATRAX MORGUE - 'Disconnected' CD (Death In Venice Productions) - £12.50
First released by Sin Organisation as a CDR in 1998 (Ltd x 226), "Disconnected" was subsequently reissued by DIVP on tape in 2021 (Ltd x 50) and now finally gets a CD-proper release in 2023. Not so much in-your-face Power Electronics, "Disconnected" was heavy Death Industrial / deviant rhythmic electronics, embodying Corbelli's psychotic thoughts into a living nightmare. "Marco Corbelli, a.k.a. Atrax Morgue, has something magical. So far, I haven't been able to put my finger on it, but it is the minimalist approach to the sounds and the incredible spookiness of those haunted vocals. The sounds in his compositions - not all, but definitely on this release - are pure synthesized melodic sequences. No rhythms, yet rhythmic, no distortion, yet distorted, and the purity is like they're straight from a machine. You hear the sound waves as they should be. The vocal procession is different: Distorted yet audible, chorus, delay and probably an overdrive. Lyrics that Brainbombs and Brighter Death Now would be proud of... this is one for the books. This is Atrax Morgue the way I like him the best. Direct, extreme and still alive" (Vital Weekly). Comes in an outsized 6-panel folded 15cm x 15cm cover. |
CHORE IA - 'Postscriptum / Neogolizmowa' 2 x CD (Zoharum / Antenna Non Grata) - £15
This new album by Jacek Wanat - aka CHORE IA - brings five long compositions, which are an extension of the style that was outlined on two tapes for OBUH Records (1995). It is a resultant of drone and ambient, with elements of experimental electronics. Although it sounds very fresh, the album keeps a similar spirit of those early publications; with compositions of a slightly poetic character. A contemplative atmosphere has been carefully built with bass, cello, voice, and electronics, sometimes taking on a slightly somnabulistic, even ethereal form. This edition has been enriched with a second disc, "Neogolizmowa", containing material from both OBUH cassettes and a few bonuses from the same period. Ltd x 300 copies in a 6-panel ecopak with artwork based on Jacek Wanat's graphics and paintings. |
CONTROLLED BLEEDING - 'Blistered Bags Of Fodder Swaying' 10 x CD Set (Artoffact Records) - £46
A hugely-impressive 10-CD set presented in a vinyl-sized, 24-pp bound book, including artwork reproductions and an essay by Paul Lemos. The period between 1985 and 1988 was the most productive in the long history of Controlled Bleeding. No fewer than 13 albums and three split works were released in this short time frame. Founder Paul Lemos, along with long-time members Joe Papa and Chris Moriarty produced material relentlessly over this period, experimenting with noise, industrial, tribal sounds, goth, ethereal, and ambient music. In hindsight, this furious output set the stage for Controlled Bleeding's more famous Wax Trax works, but the material itself found its way to every corner of the experimental world, and it influenced everyone.
This 10-CD collection, much of which has been out of print for decades, starts with the tape-only "Death In The Cameroon", and includes seven more Controlled Bleeding albums, including "Headcrack", which has never been released on CD. Also included are two Controlled Bleeding off-shoots: the industrial one-off project The Art Barbeque (1985), and the Lemos / Papa collaboration "Music For Stolen Icon" (1986). The lavish set includes large-size reproductions of the front and back covers of each release, as well as a longform essay by Paul Lemos. All material has been remastered and restored. Please note this ships in a vinyl mailer!
CD1 Controlled Bleeding "Death In The Cameroon", CD2 The Art Barbeque "Feet Hacked Rails", CD3 Controlled Bleeding "Headcrack", CD4 Controlled Bleeding "Between Tides", CD5 Controlled Bleeding "Curd", CD6 Controlled Bleeding "Core", CD7 Paul Lemos & Joe Papa "Music for Stolen Icon", CD8 Controlled Bleeding "Music For The Scourging Ground", CD9 Controlled Bleeding "Music For Gilded Chambers", CD10 Controlled Bleeding "Songs From the Drain". |
DAISUKE SUZUKI & ANDREW CHALK - 'Drifting' CD (Siren Records) - £14.50
This 1996 private recording was the very first collaboration between Andrew Chalk (Mirror, Ora, Ferial Confine) and Daisuke Suzuki, and has
remained unsurfaced until now. In early 1996 Daisuke sent Andrew
a DAT tape which included some unedited pieces that he recorded with found objects in his garden. Those fragments of recordings inspired Andrew to make a spontaneous recording and he made a live mix directly to cassette recorder with his instinct and archaic vision. "Drifting" is a kind of archaic low-fi recording, but it has great atmosphere and perfect unison in texture. "Drifting" was also a prelude to their long-term collaborations and the beginning of the change of direction in Andrew's approach to music. Mastered by engineering maestro Denis Blackham in 2023 to give the production a new lease of life. Ltd x 300 copies in a glossy card sleeve. |
DIRK SERRIES & STEFANO GENTILE - 'The Disintegration Of Silence' CD + Art Book (13 / Silentes) - £18
Stefano Gentile (Maribor, Under The Snow) and Dirk Serries (Vidna Obmana, Fear Falls Burning, Continuum) met almost 30 years ago when Stefano's Amplexus label released Vidna Obmana's seminal classic "The Transcending Quest". Fast forward 20 years later, after the ending of Dirk Serries’ critically acclaimed Vidna Obmana project, Stefano and Dirk, returning to his trademark ambient under his own name, released "The Devastation Chant" (2019), a limited 8" lathe cut and a 10" vinyl on Gentile's new label Silentes/13. Dirk's new album, "The Disintegration Of Silence", partially inspired by the melancholic collage artwork of Stefano Gentile, plays with the sounds with which he has been recognized and appreciated worldwide for almost four decades, while (so typical for Dirk's ongoing knack for adventure) expanding the comfort of his ambience with alienating analogue and real-time treatments. An album that has been performed solely on electric guitar in conjunction with plenty of pedal effects and absolutely no computers. A breathtaking work of melancholy and introspection. Ltd x 250 copies containing the CD in its own printed card sleeve, a 6" mini art booklet, housed in a 28-page 8" book, and finished with a printed/torn and hand-numbered vellum wrap. |
FRANCESCO GIANNICO - 'L'Immagine Di Me Lontano' CD (13 / Silentes) - £12
Timeless sounds merge into a singular experience, giving birth to "L'Immagine di Me, Lontano", where timeless samples, devoid of memory, reimagined through the constant employment of granular synthesis, blend with echoes of distorted strings and distant pianos. Sounds excerpted from the sonic fabric of the world metamorphose into fragments of emotions, suspended between reality and imagination. The rich recordings unveil their deepest essence, revealing a hidden language that transcends human comprehension. This is an album made by drawing on multiple sound materials that were reworked and layered with extreme care over the course of a year and a half. A rich sound was achieved by composing multiple layers that maintain the dynamics and uniqueness of the timbre of the various instruments and sounds, using reverb to create a fourth dimension, linking all the elements into a more organic production. Ltd x 200 copies in a 6-panel digisleeve with photography by Stefano Gentile. |
GIANLUCA BECUZZI - 'Black Mantra' 2 x CD (St.An.Da / Silentes) - £15.50
Kali, "The Black-One", is the Hindu goddess of death, time, supreme power, destruction and change. She is dark and heartless, the anti-mother with a bloodied face. She is "The One Who Dances", leading the world towards dissolution, end and rebirth. The origins of the Thug clan, stranglers known for their ritual murders, are linked to this karmic cycle. Since the last century, her mysterious charm has inspired literature and cinema, making her a popular figure also in the Western world. Just as, more generally, Indian mysticism and its traditional music, based on the sound continuum, is origin and source of inspiration for all Drone Music and for musical avant-gardes linked to it. This double album of tribal drone / doom features Gianluca Becuzzi (Kinetix, Limbo) on electric baritone guitar, aluminium neck guitar, aluminium neck bass VI, sampling, and programming, with Antonio Tonietti on Indian harmonium, modified acoustic guitar, and bouzitar. Ltd x 200 copies in a 6-panel digisleeve with photography by Stefano Gentile. |
GIGI MASIN & ROD MODELL - 'Red Hair Girl At The Lighthouse Beach' CD (13 / Silentes) - £13
Making music is trying to start over again every time. It's a matter of questioning and approaching. It's never settling for the sound that fills the world around. It's looking for a door in the sky. And maybe find it, open it, go beyond it. Rod Modell and Gigi Masin, this time together, are offering each other vibrations and insights. The former lives between two lakes, the latter between the Venetian lagoon and the sea. Everyone on their own shore, building electronic bridges in semi-darkness to allow us to cross too. This work is the meeting of two people, an exchange of different points of view. A way to meet and then break up. Rod has reworked a piece by Gigi making it his own... and so Gigi did with a piece by Rod. A magnificent intersection of sounds and thoughts... remaining suspended to watch the passing of time, to listen to the noises and silences of life that passes inexorably around us. Ltd x 300 copies in a 6-panel digisleeve with printed vellum wrap. |
JARL - 'Isolation Colours' CD (Zoharum) - £11.50
The new Jarl album, "Isolation Colours", consists of seven tracks, named as Circle 1-7, each of represents a colour... and what sense and mood that colour can bring: Grey-Scale one, Blue Grey (Livid), Blue, Black, White, Grey Scale - Two, and also Blindness in between with no colours. Focusing on isolation, the album is painted by the sounds from analogue synthesizers. As often with his work, Swedish musician Eric Jarl (IRM, ex-SKIN AREA) has created a sort of a psychedelic sound which is hypnotic, cosmic, melodic, intense but also restrained and withdrawn with different colour cords. Isolation, sadness, anger, fear, gloom, misery, separation but also innocence, inspiration and calmness are topics the colours can represent, but it's also up to the listener to decide. Six colour scales separated from each other yet somehow connected with previous albums like "Turbulence", "Amygdala", "Hypnosis", and "Misophonia". Ltd x 300 copies in a 6-panel digipak. |
NURSE WITH WOUND - 'Alas The Madonna Does Not Function' Picture Disc LP (United Dirter) - £27
1988 saw the release of several timeless and remarkable EPs from Nurse With Wound. One of those classics is "Alas The Madonna Does Not Function". In some respects this was a turning point for NWW - it's a record that whilst unmistakably retaining their ineffable character brought rhythmic and almost 'musical' elements into play. "Madonna" could be seen along with the "Soresucker" and "Cooloorta Moon" EPs as the bridge between the old and the new; the natural precursors to "Thunder Perfect Mind" and "Rock 'n Roll Station". Some 34 years later "Madonna" still sounds fresh and unique; a true one off, proving NWW to be one of the few genuinely enduring and uncompromising artists of their time. Added to this re-issue is the fan favourite 'I Am The Poison'. With its plodding cyclical bass, minimalist sound and distorted vocal lines, it could be argued that 'I Am The Poison' is a forgotten, yet divergent, post punk classic. Beautifully remastered by Andrew Liles, this arrives in a stunning die-cut sleeve with Babs Santini artwork. |
NURSE WITH WOUND - 'Brained By Falling Masonry / Cooloorta Moon' Picture Disc LP (United Dirter) - £27
It could be argued that "Brained By Falling Masonry" and "Cooloorta Moon" are the definitive NWW E.Ps. Both classic and timeless fan favourites, the EPs marked a distinctive change in the NWW sound. "Brained..." from 1984 showcases NWW at their mid 80's finest; the relentless churning and uncompromising music is complimented by the eccentric mania of JG Thirlwell's (FOETUS) vocals. 'A Short Dip In The Glory Hole' takes us into the murky depths of a David Lynch-influenced nightmare; a lysergic unhinged movie for the ears, which greatly influenced the Peter Strickland film Berberian Sound Studio. "Cooloorta Moon" from 1989 takes us in a whimsical direction and further highlights the boundless originality and evolution of NWW, utilising more traditional instrumentation and bordering on the verge of song structures coming to the fore. Both EPs appear here for the first time together on one single album, along with the 2010 track, 'Sarah's Beloved Aunt', perfectly closing this collection. Lovingly remastered by Andrew Liles. Again, this arrives in a beautiful die-cut sleeve with Babs Santini artwork. |
RED PAINTED RED - 'That Was The Reason Why' CD (Zoharum) - £11.50
The fourth album from British duo Red Painted Red performs well-drawn songs; melodic, catchy, with a sense of humour. At the same time, there is no shortage of experimental motifs, glitchy inserts, and unusual phrases that give their music an unusual character. The easiest way would be to label them avant-pop, with all the wealth of terms defining this genre. In the case of British music, it is only a starting point, or one of many components, because in their songs you can also hear echoes of synthwave, trip-hop, dark wave, and neofolk. Although it is an explosive mix, full of sound effects, experiments with different styles, playing with conventions, it sounds coherent and is a pleasurable listen, functioning completely naturally in our consciousness. Ltd x 300 copies in a 6-panel ecopak. |
TEZ - 'Black Bamboo II' CD (St.An.Da / Silentes) - £12
A series of electroacoustic / acousmatic performances by TeZ (known for his collaborations with Clock DVA, Scanner, and Fabio Orsi), based on live processing of acoustic sounds and field recordings. The improvisation with hybrid DIY and traditional folk / ethnic instruments, environmental recordings and archive audio clips is expanded through a series of generative filters, delays, pitch shifters and harmonisers, orchestrated in ever-changing feedback loops. The result is an unpredictable and evocative mix of ancestral cosmic tones with an industrial and experimental strain. Ltd x 200 copies in a 6-panel digisleeve. |

EXIT ELECTRONICS (JUSTIN K. BROADRICK) - 'Learn The Hard Way' CD (Zoharum) - £11.50
The debut album of EXIT ELECTRONICS, a project founded by Justin K. Broadrick (Godflesh, JK Flesh, Jesu, Final). "Learn The Hard Way" is rhythmic industrial music, characterized by a raw sound, based on heavy beats and grinding electronics. The musician defines it as RAW / PRIMAL / F*CKED / INDUSTRIAL / FILTHSTEP / OVERLOAD and puts it in opposition to industrial techno, with which it identifies, among others, the work of JK. Flesh, also characterized by a similar sound and atmosphere, but evolving towards functional music over time. Originally released in August 2022 as a digital-only release, this CD edition is now extended to a total of 11 tracks containing 2 bonus tracks. Ltd x 400 copies in a 6-panel digipak. |

ORGANUM ELECTRONICS - 'Wildness' CD (Siren Records) - £14.50
The 5th and final volume of Organum Electronics, the ultra heavy Drone Noise project of British artist David Jackman. The difference from his main project, Organum, is that it literally uses electronics as a material for creating sounds. Lighting flashes through the ether and rain whips the earth violently from the innermost depths, the pale light of candles a constancy. A midnight torrent overflows and marks time in solitude... Order flows through chaos. Every step of the spiral is forever surging and altered yet everlasting... The sounds draw out to an inner sea turning to dark fundamental notes and overtones... The voice of wildness resonating in an impenetrable world that continues to churn and swirl Between cathode and anode - iron filings pattern around a magnet... The water rises, returning as rain changed to smoke and reappearing as vapour. The mass of the earth compressing the rocks. Fire changes everything, rising and falling, opening and closing... "With Organum Electronics, the minimal approach lies in the single long-form piece of electronic sounds. David Jackman, the man behind Organum/Electronics, is never too forthcoming when sharing techniques, instruments and other such trivia... My best guess is that Jackman somehow had access to a modular electronics set-up for a while and worked out a way to be quite extreme. A monolithic sound approach" (Vital Weekly). Ltd x 500 copies in a digisleeve. |
RAPOON - 'Skulls On The Plains Of Turkey' CD (Zoharum) - £11.50
On his latest album, Robin Storey (Rapoon, ex-Zoviet France) once again invites us on a musical journey to the exotic world of the Orient, sparkling with many delicately woven miniatures, based on fragments of melodies, heard as if in the deep sleep phase, when sounds and images reaching us from a distance gently fill the space, giving the impression of an integral part of it. The tracks are filled with tribal rhythms, vocals and a wide palette of colours; an extremely coherent, slightly pulsating ambient emerges in the spirit of the best Rapoon albums. "Skulls On The Plains Of Turkey" is also a kind of musical story, inspired by one of those moments when the surrounding space and seemingly ordinary events make us reflect deeper. "Sitting at a table in front of a bar by the sea in Chania, watching the crashing waves and enjoying the beauty of this place, I watched a ball of white light moving from behind the eastern headland and disappearing behind the west. It was moving at speeds impossible for a boat or plane.
I looked around to see if anyone else noticed... but everyone was just staring at the glass screens of their phones". All this can be read somewhere in the small phrases and compositional structures on which this meditative, slightly reflective concept was based. Ltd x 400 copies in a gold and black print digipak. |
REFORMED FACTION (ZOVIET FRANCE) - 'Vota' CD (Zoharum) - £12.50
"Vota" marked the debut of Reformed Faction, a group formed by ex-members of Zoviet France: Mark Spybey (Download, Death Voices On Air, Beehatch), Robin Storey (Rapoon, Old Castle), and (subsequent ex-member) Andy Eardley (Delayer). Initially issued under the name of The Reformed Faction Of Soviet France, the name (and thus packaging) was immediately changed because the band members were discontent with the original name. The musicians feel drawn to create music that honours the process of spontaneous composition. Using live improvisations, they then cut and paste, in the grand tradition of pioneers such as Can to create collage like compositions. Instead of the analogue four track tape machines of old, all of the music is recorded onto computers but the object brut like way of assembling pieces remains essentially as it was when Zoviet France first started to record in 1981. Recorded in 2005 and originally released by Klanggalerie in 2006, this album has been out of print ever since and has become a collectors' rarity. The material has been fully re-mastered. Ltd x 300 copies in a 6-panel "velvet" digipak, with spot-varnish elements and with a lightly refreshed graphic redesign. |

SMEGMA / MERZBOW - 'XCIII' CD (Helicopter) - £12
More than 25 years after their first partnership "Plays", international collaborators Smegma and Merzbow reunite for an all-new album that pushes the conceptual springboard of random composition generation even further. Consisting of two movements spread over 93 tracks, "XCIII" presents a collage of abstract electronics, unconventional instruments, reel to reel tape manipulation, loops and effects, best experienced in unique combinations on shuffled play. The first movement, "Climactic Gruesome Costumes" (whose title is an anagram of Play's "Electro Smegmacoustic Music"), was composed using source sounds provided by Smegma and Merzbow, while the second movement, "Reanimated", was composed at Smegma's Studio using Merzbow tracks, Smegma tracks, and more. 6-panel digipak with cover art by Ju Suk Reet Meate, Oblivia, and John Wiese. |
ESOTERIC - 'Esoteric Emotions: The Death Of Ignorance' 2 x LP (Aesthetic Death) - £30
30 years after UK Funeral Doom legends Esoteric put together tracks for their "Esoteric Emotions: The Death of Ignorance" demo in 1993, those recordings are now reissued for the first time on vinyl in this deluxe double LP edition. You will hear Esoteric tracks from their very formative months as a band, yet instantly hearing the unique sound that has defined Esoteric and which has been nurtured and developed in the years since. For its age, the doom extremity of this demo was pioneering - it has a decent sound even with the recording limitations of the time. Remastered by Greg Chandler for this edition, with beautiful new artwork by Meriel Longmore. Ltd x 200 numbered copies on 180gm vinyl in a gatefold sleeve with inner sheet. |
RAPOON - 'Fallen Gods' 2 x LP (Abstrakce / B.F.E. Records) - £25
"Fallen Gods" was the third studio album by Rapoon aka Robin Storey, formerly of :zoviet*france:. Originally released in 1994, "Fallen Gods" builds on the haunting industrial ethers of the debut "Dream Circle" and the esoteric, rhythmic drone of the second album "Raising Earthly Spirits". It consolidates many of the sounds and disciplines that had shaped Storey’s work up to this point, while indicating a newfound, concerted focus on classical Indian instrumentation; a synthesis of myriad ideas, rooted in the duality between modernity and mysticism.
These compositions form a deeply arresting body of work that is arguably considered one of Storey's finest works.
Across nine tracks Storey weaves together indeterminate, sonorous currents of ambient and experimental electronics with magnetic, sprawling passages of acoustic instrumentation, creating a profound work of entrancing, ritualistic minimalism. Comparisons could be drawn with the panoramic soundscapes of Lustmord, the fourth world ambitions of Jon Hassell, the heavy outernational psychedelia of Psychick Warriors ov Gaia but "Fallen Gods" illustrates an artist establishing their own trajectory, a distinct indication that Storey had moved way beyond :zoviet*france:. into the flourishing territories and intricate sound environments of the Rapoon project. Ltd x 200 copies with white cover art. |
RUDOLF EB.ER / AWKWARD GEISHA - 'Maledicti' LP (Love Earth Music) - £22
"Awkward Geisha's 'Opera Of Death' is a side-long piece of power electronics. To that end, he uses bass voices and noise. The lengthy, crashing onslaught of distortion, wielding away as if there is no end, but with a few variations to the theme. These alternations are actually quite enjoyable. Like an engine revving up, amplified and distorted, there is beauty in decay... Eb.er's noise music is of an entirely different world. He uses field recordings and voice material, along with working with the frequencies, to emphasize or reduce particular parts. He places his material next to each other to create eerie sound collages. I hear these as a soundtrack to horror movies, dystopia or anything such as black. More than some of his other recent work, this one seems to work with more obvious looped material. That adds a more mechanical feeling to the music. Noise, as in loud, distorted work, this is not. Rudolf Eb.er's music is way more subtle" (Vital Weekly). Rudolf Eb.er (aka Runzelstirn & Gurgelstøck, Conscious Dying) founded the Schimpfluch extreme-artists-collective in Zürich in 1987. Awkward Geisha is a musical project created in 2016 by British musician, artist and writer Ade Rowe. Cursed grooves on heavy black vinyl. |
UMPIO - 'Kulotus' 2 x CD (Hiisi Productions / Narcolepsia) - £13.50
Double CD of fire elektronix overload from Umpio - aka multi-instrumentalist Pentti Dassum who hails from Pori, Finland. No junk, no-input mixers. Oscillator complexity, feedback loops, and almost 10 years of tape recordings arranged into two comprehensive discs.
"Kulotus" is the Finnish word for when farmers burn the old weeds and leftovers away, so that the earth can be reworked. Absolute erasing, preparation for the new. Umpio's work focuses on junk metal percussion, self-built nonstruments, junkstruments and electronic noise. Ltd x 200 copies in a 6-panel digisleeve with bonus artcard. |
PYREFICATIVM - 'Oneiron' CD (Zazen Sounds) - £12
This album from Chilean dystopian and philosophical muziek act Pyreficativm is a blackened magnificence. A sublime Dark RItual Ambient opus, anointed with the mercurial bleeding verb of the Daimonos, veiled by sinister cacophonies represented by magnolia petals. Beyond From the mountains of Ithaqua to the obscure hands of Shiva, the Bhavadaresh of the Gods illuminates the painful scourges to the primeval mass-gardens and poisoned phlegm. Rotten odyssey is embodied with the fundamental parameters of reverberations and oracular mysteries and dense alignment. Returning to dramatic musical schemes and dystopian curses, funeral mantras and minimalistic sonority orchestrated by coiled spirits. Incorporating complex topics and cryptic empiricism between the primordial mantralic crystallization of abstraction... Oneiron oscillates into the mirrors of Giossolalic acts and devilish black Sorcery. Gatefold digisleeve. Sold out from the label! |
AETHERIUM NEBULA - 'Glacialis Mundi' CD (Winter-Light) - £11.50
Aetherium Nebula is the new dark ambient / drone project of Dan Barrett, also known as Worms Of The Earth. The aim of this project is to write deep, non-intrusive music for exploring dream and astral realms. The main focus is manifesting atmospheres inspired by the intersection of sadness, spirituality, and far future, cyberpunk science fiction.
"Glacialis Mundi" is a musical journey to a frozen world of eternal snowstorms, icy oceans, desolate plains, and ancient temples half-buried in snow. Beneath the surface of the planet lie frost-bitten tunnels containing the long-abandoned mechanical remnants of a forgotten civilisation.
"I have come upon the planet. Its only designation is an ambiguous code which identifies its coordinates in the vast, multi-layered matrix of space. Cursory scans show a dead world; there are no signs of living beings, sentient or otherwise. Perhaps some form of life dwelt here once but is now buried under an eternity of frost.
Immediately upon landing, my vessel is engulfed by the maw of the great white wall of snow. The roiling winds clatter viciously against the outer hull masking the deathlike silence of the abandoned world…".
Starting as experimentation solely using modular synths, the project incorporates a range of synths, sound sources, and found sounds. Ltd x 300 copies in a 6-panel digisleeve. |
