We found a small pile of these clearing out our archive! They were produced to promote the exhibition opening in 2006, so most were destroyed after the event. A very rare artefact!
An A3 poster created for the opening event of LAIBACH KUNST inhibition "Instrumentality of the State Machine" - Laibach Concerto for Magnetophone, Gramophone, Radiophone and Megaphone.
"This large-scale sound and visual installation recreates the industrial ambience of Trbovlje, the Slovene city which gave birth to Laibach 26 years ago".
In September 2006, Cold Spring (in association with I.C.R.N. and Capsule) presented the live premiere Return Of The Repressive at The Custard Factory, Birmingham. With Laibach in attendance to open the event, the evening also featured performances from: Surgeon (a specially commissioned audio-visual set), Industrial pioneer Schloss Tegal, PCM, and Sh*t And Shine.

LULL - 'Journey Through Underworlds'

The classic, genre-defining 1993 album from LULL - the pioneering, isolationist dark ambient project of MICK HARRIS of SCORN, FRET, ex-NAPALM DEATH - is a dark journey through the Stygian netherworlds of Hell.
The listener is left with the impression of a final escape into reality; a return upon waking, with only wispy trace memories and the heavy rush of blood-pumping fear as a keepsake.
With this album, we are plunged back into a dark pit of noise - all escape barred, all hope dashed. The nightmare continues, the journey through underworlds descends deeper. These are soundtracks for Nightmares. Despite there being just three tracks on the album, it lasts just shy of 75 minutes.
Originally released on Sentrax (the label of the late John Everall / Tactile), the CD suffered the 'disc rot' fate of many PDO pressings from 1988-1993, rendering most of that initial run unplayable.
Mixed by Justin K Broadrick (GODFLESH). Remastered by Martin Bowes (The Cage Studios) from the original recordings supplied by Mick Harris.

Released for the first time on any format, we proudly present the soundtrack to the 2020 sci-fi horror film 'Sputnik' (directed by Egor Abramenko).
The bleak and hauntingly atmospheric film is accompanied by an impressively heavy soundtrack from Oleg Karpachev, who uses bombastic percussion, stirring strings, and otherworldly synths to convey the horror unfolding on screen.
Set during Cold War Soviet Russia, the ominous film starring Oksana Akinshina (Bourne Supremacy), Fedor Bondarchuk, and Pyotr Fyodorov Jr follows the story of a cosmonaut returning from space with a mysterious extraterrestrial organism; essential viewing for those with a penchant for "Alien"-style body horror.

SONOLOGYST - 'Shortwave Spectrum'

The new Sonologyst "sonic documentary" delves into the secretive realm of shortwave transmissions; a chronicle of clandestine shortwave transmissions culled from a span of nearly four decades (1982-2021). These mysterious transmissions - repetitive voices, signals, sound pulses, short pieces of music - were collated and edited to compose the tracks of the main album.
Immersed in an isolating fog of dark ambient, deep drone music and cinematic sound art, it provides an auditory exploration of the ongoing Cold War. Originating from covert radio stations engaged in military and espionage endeavours, the tracks unveil a hidden sonic landscape of strategic communication.
The second disc, in its extensive presentation, provides a deeper immersion into these enigmatic broadcasts. Each recording remains unaltered, accompanied only by a ghostly drone. It offers an unfiltered glimpse into the world of clandestine communication, where words are transmitted beneath the radar and in the shadowy confines of the electromagnetic spectrum.

THE TELESCOPES - 'Experimental Health'

The latest chapter in The Telescopes' idiosyncratic exploration of sound combines hallucinatory ballads with transcendent melodies, clanging, and lo-fi buzzes, with a substantial amount of crushing and sound degradation. The result is an album radiating a dark and abrasive, yet ethereal energy.
Created entirely independently by Stephen Lawrie in a remote cottage in West Yorkshire between January to May 2022, the record was made with broken toys and cheap synths - mostly Pocket Operators and miniature synths, with no guitars present. The complexity of sound rests within the simplicity of the composition and musical arrangements.
The bonus remixes are two divergent interpretations by Black Market Karma and Mosaic Runes, both artists deploying their own respective skill sets and aura. The former with unfurling guitars and live drums, spreading a magnetic warmth and charm. The latter returning to the cryptic spectres haunting the record, drawing out the hidden spirit of broken equipment and infusing the tracks with their signature fractured ice.

A carefully curated selection of the crucial compilation tracks from Horror Electronics / Post-Industrial project BURIAL HEX, gathering and remastering them together, striving to create a resonance between disparate sources, forming an extraordinary new experience.
Many of the tracks were from cassettes, vinyl, or digital-only releases for labels such as Brave Mysteries, Aurora Borealis, Clan Destine, Small Doses, and Buh, appearing here on CD for the first time - or in the case of 'Pentitential March', never-before released. Clay Ruby has remixed each track, in some cases re-envisioning them specifically to live together coherently in this incarnation, making this collection more like a new studio album rather than another anthology compilation.

 CIRCLE - 'Serpent' CD (Ektro Records) - £12
This titillating live spectacle of Finnish proto post-rock / krautrock act Circle was multitracked at the brilliant venue The Croft, Bristol, during their UK tour in autumn 2011. Here Circle gives us a one-hour rumble of old and new song - including a taste of songs from their album "Manner" (Hydra Head) which followed shortly after. A brisk illustration of the adult-oriented avant-garde music that they had been involved in. Apart from some heavy high-speed psych-rock / metal passages, little remains of the merciless hardcore riffs of early Circle. Instead, they reply here on extroverted vocal acrobatics, original to strange arrangements, intricate songs, various dissonances and theatrics. Reissue of the highly-regarded 2012 release. |
 GENETIC TRANSMISSION - 'Offals Of Emotions' CD (Zoharum) - £11.50
"Offals Of Emotions" is the eleventh chapter of the GT Archive Series. This time we have material recorded and originally released on CDR in 2004, between the recording sessions for "Scumerzbruit" and "Music For Vienna Aktionist". This is one of the more radical albums in the late Tomek Twardawa's discography. The total length of nearly 70 minutes consists of 5 longer musical forms, maintained in the style of noise. We are still dealing here with electroacoustic phrases, enhanced with noise, grating and high-frequency tones. Numerous feedback, field recordings, natural glitches created during recording (here used deliberately) create the building blocks from which the album "Offals Of Emotions" was forged.  HARMONY OF STRUGGLE - 'Brutal Aesthetics' CD (Zoharum) - £11.50
"Brutal Aesthetics", the second album of this Power Electronics project of Michal 'Neithan' Kielbasa (Whalesong, Nothing Has Changed, Lugola), develops the threads contained in the debut, "Tearing Your Mind To Pieces". Touching upon the phenomena and techniques of manipulation, sometimes affecting entire social groups, in order to awaken their wildest instincts... determining them to acts of an unprecedented scale of cruelty, which became the obligatory norm for some unexplained reason and the cause of murders or mass suicides. We find here topics related to the history of Jonestown, references to the merciless and cruel practices of a thousand cuts, carried out in the majesty of the law, and there are also threads related to war stories, which in a broader perspective would be the main subject of the debut. The music of Harmony Of Struggle is still raw, noisy, sleazy and uncompromising Power Electronics - but thanks to the new production, has gained a lot in sound.  KUUSUMUN PROFEETTA - 'Kukin Kaappiaan Selässään Kantaa' CD (Ektro Records) - £12
The long awaited reissue of this beautiful 2001 album of intimate fragile folk, chamber jazz, delicate prog/psych, and rich orchestral arrangements. Finnish band Kuusumin Profeetta grew out of (and initially partially co-existed with) the band Moon Fog Prophet (a direct translation of the new Finnish name). At the more minimalistic end of the spectrum, and beginning with Finnish language texts, the album deals with the sense of alienation among other topics, in a distinctively poetic but touching and identifiable manner. The group created songs that were much smaller in scale than before and combined hues of folk, jazz and other flavours into a unique blend. The new soundscape of the band was on the one hand intimate and fragile, on the other hand imaginative and rich. The record got an overwhelmingly ecstatic response especially in the Finnish alternative music circuit, and many now consider the first album under Kuusumun Profeetta name a timeless classic.  LUGOLA - 'The Truth Penetrates Your Mouth' CD (Zoharum) - £11.50
"The Truth Penetrates Your Mouth" is the second full-length album of the Polish project headed by Michal 'Neithan' Kielbasa (Whalesong, Nothing Has Changed, Harmony Of Struggle), whose debut - "You Are Nothing Special" (Steinklang) - caused quite a sensation in the Power Electronics scene. On the strength of that debut album, the project quickly made its way to performances at festivals and events in Poland and abroad, often sharing the stage with the important representatives of this genre. Their second album, "The Truth Penetrates Your Mouth", brings nine new songs with an even stronger emotional charge, finding their outlet in the massive, pulsating and noisy structures, composing the background to manifestos shouted suggestively and uncompromisingly, leaving no prisoners behind.  MAHTI - 'Musiikki 1' CD (Ektro Records) - £12
Mahti are a Finnish four-piece group presenting a unique mixture of ambient-rock, electronic music and traditional Finnish-Karelian music. Lengthy semi-improvisational pieces are built on top of complex, hypnotic synths which are layered with opaque guitars and strangely soothing noise elements. In the heart of it all there's kantele, an ancient Finnish string instrument played by Hannu Saha, who has studied Finnish folk music in theory and practice for nearly five decades. The other players are Jussi Lehtisalo and Tomi Leppänen, who also form the rhythmic core of avant-rock group CIRCLE, and psychiatrist Teemu Elo. These ancient musicians played their 'mahti'... and the sound they produced was called 'musiikki'. "A tripped out, ambient-hypnotic ride" (Riot Season). Strange dreams guaranteed! Digipak. |

The second album from Finnish experimental four-piece Mahti, featuring members of the legendary band CIRCLE. A unique mixture of ambient-rock, electronic music and traditional Finnish-Karelian music. "This is really mellow stuff, experimental for sure, a bit ambient, a bit electronic, a bit traditional Finnish... maybe even a bit psychedelic. It's beautiful I know that much...  MERZBOW - 'Live at Knitting Factory NY' 2 x CD (Ektro Records) - £16
This live recording from New York's Knitting Factory, September 2005, captures Japanoise guru Merzbow in transcendent form, serving the audience with subtle hypnotic pulses to go with rich textures of raw to low frequencies. The immersive baths of sonic clusters, sine wave swoops, rumbling low mids and glissandos jumping off of rooftops diving down to dervish dance of bit fragments offer the listener a rare glimpse of what it means to find soothing charm and calm in the chaos. Sharing the bill and the stage with Merzbow were the Finnish avant rock mavericks Circle. The serenity of their joint venture, attesting the genuine artistry of both acts, is cut out in mid-flight at approximately 22-minute mark due to recording device running out of tape, and makes up the second disc of this double-digipak. |
 RAPOON - 'Time Frost' CD (Zoharum) - £11.50
"Time Frost" is an ambient record by Rapoon (aka Robin Storey, also of Reformed Faction, Old Castle, ex-Zoviet France), imagining the mutation process of sound locked in ice and transformed over millennia. Like ghosts of music trapped in the ever-changing permafrost. "I imagined that tiny pieces of former cultures survived locked in the ice and waiting for future archaeologists to discover and interpret them. I used vinyl lock grooves of [Johann Strauss's] Blue Danube (from the 1968 MGM recording for the film soundtrack 2001) to form the starting points for the five compositions in Time Frost which were then manipulated and added to and re-arranged into new compositions" (Robin Storey). The album was originally released in a series of publications from Glacial Movements. Virtually unavailable in any form for many years, over time it has become a hard-to-find rarity, sought after by fans of the British project. This reissue changes that state of affairs. For this publication, the graphic design was changed, this time based on photographs by Robin Storey, who also remastered the material within. Ltd x 350 copies in a 6-panel digipak. |
 SECT7 - 'Obsessiveness' CD (Zoharum) - £11.50
"Obsessiveness" is SECT7's debut album, written in the spirit of industrial music. Heavy, motor electronics with a raw, even rough and metallic sound, on which numerous looped phrases are based, constituting the background for many synthesizer melodies, sampled vocalizations, unexpected twists and tempos. A coherent whole emerges from these seven tracks; a well-thought-out concept of the artist, corresponding perfectly with the graphic aspect of the publication, also authored by her. Although the whole thing fits perfectly into the convention of techno scene with a touch of electro energy, driven by the mechanical rhythms of EBM, it serves not only club entertainment, but also serves as a medium where various tropes, woven quotes and their context subconsciously force further reinterpretation.  THE STARGAZER'S ASSISTANT - 'Fire Worshipper' CD (Zoharum) - £11.50
A vinyl-only release in early 2023 by House Of Mythology, "Fire Worshipper" is the group's fourth full-length album, presented here on CD for the first time. The core of The Stargazer's Assistant consists of three musicians: David J. Smith (Guapo, The Amal Gamal Ensemble), Michael J. York (COIL, The Utopia Strong, Urthona), and David J. Knight (UnicaZürn, Shock Headed Peters), who were accompanied during the recording session for this album by Antti Uusimaki, a long-time friend, producer, musician and recording engineer. "Fire Worshipper" is the result of the band's natural development in the direction chosen by its members a long time ago. The music seems to arise from the similar sensitivity of these three personalities. What undoubtedly influenced numerous projects within their parent groups, is here realised in the form of a dialogue, based on their specific harmonies, sounds and an atmosphere resembling something like a sound meditation, enriched with acoustic decorations. This musical phenomenon can be simply defined as esoteric ambient, stylistically fitting somewhere between the albums of Cyclobe, UnicaZurn, Coil from the last period of activity and all kinds of lunar publications.  TUNNELS OF AH - 'The Smeared Cloth (2012-2018 Unearthed)' 2 x Cassette (Cruel Nature Records) - £15
"The Smeared Cloth" is a double tape compilation containing TUNNELS OF AH recordings from 2012-2018, which have not yet been published on any medium. The first tape is filled with compositions from the period before the debut album "Lost Corridors" on Cold Spring and outtakes from the sessions for "Thus Avici", the next album for the British label. The second tape contains tracks recorded during and between the sessions for "Surgical Fires" and "Charnel Transmissions". Although they were created as loose compositions, out of the concepts clearly outlined on each of the aforementioned albums, they sound incredibly coherent, giving impression of being part of a concept release. This makes them a pleasure to listen to; especially when we get carried away in the world created by Stephen Ah Burroughs (Head Of David) with the sounds characteristic of his work. Sometimes they evoke associations with ancient rituals, intensifying the impression of Egyptian darkness, the feeling of coldness and emptiness coming as if from a deep dungeon, and with them an echo. All this is a superstructure for the 21 tracks filling both tapes, outlined and maintained, in a convention that allows them to be stylistically located somewhere between isolating dark ambient and death industrial, where the gloom aura and dense, mechanical structures coexist as if in symbiosis, thanks to which the balance between building the atmosphere and reflecting the true nature of the industrial collision. This release is undoubtedly a must-have for TOAH fans, but it can also delight those who appreciate death industrial at a high level.  UHUSHUHU - 'Zvirat' CD (Zoharum) - £11.50
For their latest album, UHUSHUHU (aka Pavel Dombrowski) invited Lilia Akivenson (Petrograd Drone Gathering) to cooperate; who, in addition to her synthesizer parts, was also author of the photos and the graphic design. The album contains five long compositions in the convention that this project has become accustomed to, which fit perfectly into the drone / ambient style. The material was recorded in Kazakhstan and in this form is something like a diary from a long journey into the unknown; like a record of emotions, experiences and thoughts illustrated using sound, which is the most universal language that musicians use to convey their narrative to listeners. A deep, reflective and meditative album, not only for fans of ambient music, but also for people sensitive to the subtle, ethereal and ascetic in its form, music flowing from the depths of the soul...  VIDNA OBMANA - 'Crossing The Trail' CD (Zoharum) - £11.50
Originally released in 1998 by Projekt, "Crossing The Trail" was recorded 1996-1997 by Vidna Obmana (aka Dirk Series, also of Fear Falls Burning), with guest appearances from: ethno-ambient heavyweight Steve Roach, guitar loop maestro Jeff Pearce, and ethereal chants from Martina Verhoeven. The album contains seven compositions, characteristic of Vidna Obmana's work from this period. It could also be considered the perfect link between "The River Of Appearance" (1996) and "The Surreal Sanctuary" (2000). For this reissue, the material was remastered by Dirk Serries in the summer of 2023. It has also been enriched with refreshed graphics, based on Martina Verhoeven's photographs from the same period as the first edition. Ltd x 350 copies in a 6-panel digipak. |

 AJNA - 'Inevitable Mortality' 2 x CD (Zoharum) - £15
"Inevitable Mortality" was originally released in a microprint of just 50 x CDR copies thanks to Reverse Alignment.
This double CD-proper edition contains the same material, and is extended by another 6 hitherto unpublished compositions, created in the same period. Thanks to this, the album sounds coherent and is a great complement to the discography with a position that has been difficult to obtain until now. An absolute must have for listeners who like to lose themselves listening to dark ambient music of the highest quality. "Inevitable Mortality" was created in a rather interesting period of the U.S. musician, just ahead of the release "Black Monolith" - a collaboration with Dronny Darko, which established the position of both artists on this scene.  VIDNA OBMANA - 'Dante Trilogy: Tremor . Spore . Legacy' 3 x CD (Zoharum) - £18
Working for almost 25 years as Vidna Obmana, Dirk Serries has never shied away from challenges. When he was offered a record deal with the renowned metal label Relapse Records / Release Entertainment, Vidna Obmana took his boldest step ever. With his 'Dante' trilogy he created his most ambitious, daring and unique set of albums which made him one of the most unique voices in the ambient and experimental scene at his creative peak. Not only did this bring Vidna Obmana to a definite conclusion but executed that perfect fusion of everything his project stood for since the first release in 1984. His industrialism, the minimal ambience, the fourth world explorations and his electronic processing experiments went into blender.  KLEISTWAHR - 'For The Lives Once Lived' CD (Fourth Dimension) - £11.50
The 15th album from UK industrial-noise legend Kleistwahr has retained the molten intensity it has always been propelled by since Gary Mundy (Ramleh / Broken Flag boss) founded the project in the early 1980s. While the work occasionally seems as though it draws from the same dusty religious setting as some of Messiaen's wonderful organ compositions, there's still an all-encompassing blanket of ravaged psychedelia firmly laced with blood-flecked barbs to help counter this. When Kleistwahr's music seems poised to elevate the atmospheric gestures towards the sublime and elegiac, there's always a gaping maw lined with razor-edged teeth lurking nearby to help keep all those lofty hopes and expectations from getting above themselves. Like Rameh, Kleistwahr explores vast and often searing swathes of sound, sometimes tempered to a more atmospheric approach and at other times cranked to the kind of levels bleeding ears make for a perfectly natural response.  ENTEN HITTI - 'Via Lattea' LP (ADN) - £18
This new work from ensemble Enten Hitti takes inspiration from research on the "feminine" and from the matrilineal transmission of life. "Via Lattea" is the result of various research trips to the places where the culture of the "sacred female" took shape over 4000 years ago: Cyprus, Crete, Turkey, Ireland, South Africa, and Indonesia. The historical and geographical suggestions have been freely reinterpreted and transformed into musical pieces which, while citing specific musical worlds in some cases, go in the direction of grasping the spirit of the feminine in its universality. "Via Lattea" is a tribute to the feminine quality and to the cults of the Mother Goddess updated with contemporary tools, including overtone singing and two tracks "freely inspired by African initiatory and ritual music". At the same time it is a tribute to the galaxy of which we are part and embodies the ensemble's spiritual quest, suspended between earth and sky. The brand new album from the electronic composer aims for an almost unsettling intimacy with which to accompany a noir-drenched journey into songs of unstable identity and uncertain final destinations. Guided by a sense of being "perpetually in-transit", TBWB's signature chaotic / musique concrete-style edits melt into passages of dislocated, ethereal ambience. While "Metaphysics..." features many familiar elements, there are some wholly new sonic colours in the palette: emphatic choral voices, ringing metallic percussion, various Moog growls and murmurs. In many places you'll encounter an atypical "old school" musique concrete feel, in terms of the rapid instrumental interchanges, and this is meant to provide a sense of contrast and continuity with other segments of strange, spectral, post-industrial ambience.
