NEW COLD SPRING RELEASES - NOV / DEC 2023 |
OLEG KARPACHEV - 'Sputnik' (Dir: Egor Abramenko) O.S.T.
CD £9 - OUT 1 Dec (pre-order price - £11 after)

Released for the first time on any format, we proudly present the soundtrack to the 2020 sci-fi horror film 'Sputnik' (directed by Egor Abramenko).
The bleak and hauntingly atmospheric film is accompanied by an impressively heavy soundtrack from Oleg Karpachev, who uses bombastic percussion, stirring strings, and otherworldly synths to convey the horror unfolding on screen.
Set during Cold War Soviet Russia, the ominous film starring Oksana Akinshina (Bourne Supremacy), Fedor Bondarchuk, and Pyotr Fyodorov Jr follows the story of a cosmonaut returning from space with a mysterious extraterrestrial organism; essential viewing for those with a penchant for "Alien"-style body horror.
Immense orchestral dissonance with an industrial edge. File next to Steven Price, Hans Zimmer, Ben Frost, In Slaughter Natives...

SONOLOGYST - 'Shortwave Spectrum'
2CD £13.50 - OUT NOW!

The new Sonologyst "sonic documentary" delves into the secretive realm of shortwave transmissions; a chronicle of clandestine shortwave transmissions culled from a span of nearly four decades (1982-2021). These mysterious transmissions - repetitive voices, signals, sound pulses, short pieces of music - were collated and edited to compose the tracks of the main album.
Immersed in an isolating fog of dark ambient, deep drone music and cinematic sound art, it provides an auditory exploration of the ongoing Cold War. Originating from covert radio stations engaged in military and espionage endeavours, the tracks unveil a hidden sonic landscape of strategic communication.
The second disc, in its extensive presentation, provides a deeper immersion into these enigmatic broadcasts. Each recording remains unaltered, accompanied only by a ghostly drone. It offers an unfiltered glimpse into the world of clandestine communication, where words are transmitted beneath the radar and in the shadowy confines of the electromagnetic spectrum.

THE TELESCOPES - 'Experimental Health'
CD £11 - OUT NOW!

The latest chapter in The Telescopes' idiosyncratic exploration of sound combines hallucinatory ballads with transcendent melodies, clanging, and lo-fi buzzes, with a substantial amount of crushing and sound degradation. The result is an album radiating a dark and abrasive, yet ethereal energy.
Created entirely independently by Stephen Lawrie in a remote cottage in West Yorkshire between January to May 2022, the record was made with broken toys and cheap synths - mostly Pocket Operators and miniature synths, with no guitars present. The complexity of sound rests within the simplicity of the composition and musical arrangements.
The bonus remixes are two divergent interpretations by Black Market Karma and Mosaic Runes, both artists deploying their own respective skill sets and aura. The former with unfurling guitars and live drums, spreading a magnetic warmth and charm. The latter returning to the cryptic spectres haunting the record, drawing out the hidden spirit of broken equipment and infusing the tracks with their signature fractured ice.

MERZBOW - 'Cafe OTO'
2CD £13.50 - OUT NOW!

A documentation of prolific Japanese noise master Merzbow's double show at London's Cafe OTO in October 2016.
Rhythm-driven and rammed with highly sculpted frequencies, Akita's sound is entirely remorseless.
Furious squalls and delicate sine-warps post this one on the more psychedelic end of Akita's output. Truly relentless, it is still hard to believe he created "Untitled Knife I" on a casual Saturday afternoon. Be careful with that volume...
"Performed on what looked like a hand-built guitar-like instrument and aided by a table full of electronics, all controlled by the legendary Japanese artist. The concert was very much about the physical impact of the sound. At several points during the set I could feel the fabric of my jeans and jacket vibrating from the extreme frequencies played at excessive volume... an intense and constant sonic attack" (Irregular Notes On Music).

 |
Acollaborative endeavour by the visionary bassist-producer Bill Laswell and the late musician Pete Namlook that pushed the boundaries of dark ambient and electronic music.
Spanning five albums released over a thirteen year period from 1994, this new boxset serves as a testament to the creative synergy between the two masterminds.
Each album is characterised by a sense of expansiveness, taking listeners on a voyage through rarely charted sonic dimensions.
The lavish matte-finish boxset opens to the 5 "Outland" albums in separate matte sleeves, with all-new designs, and all audio completely remastered. This box also contains a new addition to the OUTLAND series - an album of dense, bass space drone by Bill Laswell, entitled "Blackland". The boxset also contains an exclusive card with an essay about the project written by BIll Laswell, July 2023.

A carefully curated selection of the crucial compilation tracks from Horror Electronics / Post-Industrial project BURIAL HEX, gathering and remastering them together, striving to create a resonance between disparate sources, forming an extraordinary new experience.
Many of the tracks were from cassettes, vinyl, or digital-only releases for labels such as Brave Mysteries, Aurora Borealis, Clan Destine, Small Doses, and Buh, appearing here on CD for the first time - or in the case of 'Pentitential March', never-before released. Clay Ruby has remixed each track, in some cases re-envisioning them specifically to live together coherently in this incarnation, making this collection more like a new studio album rather than another anthology compilation.

Formed in the mid-80's, with previous releases on high-calibre labels such as Broken Flag, Cold Spring, Trident, Mindscan, and Tesco Organisation, Industrial / Power Electronics veteran SATØRI returns with a new dark and disturbing journey into the very depths of human horror.
Using his love of pure noise, harsh synths and brutal percussion, SATØRI has created a dystopian cinematic soundscape in which to lose your very soul.
While the last two releases concentrated on what could be described as "observations on humanity's ability to drag itself down to its lowest common denominator", this new work focuses on a more localised depravity - that of the lone wolf. An individual who, having no moral compass, has no boundaries to cross.
Welcome to the woods...

A collaborative album by Drew Daniel (Matmos, The Soft Pink Truth) and John Wiese (Sissy Spacek, Smegma, LHD,).
"Continuous Hole" melds improvisation and musique concrète composition into a uniquely sweaty document of labour-intensive rhythm. A finger puzzle of reconciled opposites: lockstep structure, constant flux.
Relentlessly variable source material is relegated to precisely timed gated forms and patterns. Without using any sampling or MIDI sequencing, rhythmic cuts are constructed entirely from volcanic, gnarled abstraction, eschewing typical genre elements.
Raw yet precise, from mayhem to menace, this is a album of strong contrasts from two American artists discovering common ground in the joy of frenzied cutting.

Reissue of seminal early 1980's electronic recordings from the British Electric Foundation (B.E.F.), aka HEAVEN 17 / ex-THE HUMAN LEAGUE's Martyn Ware and Ian Craig Marsh, with Adi Newton (CLOCK DVA / THE FUTURE), and John Wilson (HEAVEN 17), originally a cassette-only release (1981).
• Ltd x 500 copies on 180g Electric Blue LP (Cold Spring only) | LP Black | CD
Following two groundbreaking albums ('Reproduction' and 'Travelogue'), the original line-up of Sheffield-based The Human League split in half in late 1980. The two primary musicians in the group, Martyn Ware and Ian Craig Marsh, formed a new production company - the British Electric Foundation (B.E.F.). The artists they were to produce would include Heaven 17, their own new band formed with vocalist Glenn Gregory.
This music was among the first recorded by Martyn and Ian directly after their departure from The Human League.

BÉ'HLMXHUR - 'Leichenpathologie' CD (Zazen Sounds) - £12
Bé'hlmxhur offer a new work of grotesque experimental dark ambient, lo-fi analogue ritual industrial works, and glossolalical acts. Acrid tracks veiled by the rottenness and fetidity of the suggestion of primordial coitus, inspired animically in a vigorous way by abstract and experimental music. Mixed organically between the perplexed dimensions of the sick sounds, and suggestive music through sexual activities, recorded in a nihilistic state of ecstasy. Its grotesque elements are presented in different "altered" psychological states under the distortion of the flesh and granular saturation towards the claustrophobic. All this is presented through the veil of archaic 80's praxis. This album solemnly nods to pioneers such as: Maurizio Bianchi, Doppelwirkung, Con-Dom, Genocide Organ, Fumio Kosakai, and Controlled Death. Digipak. Already sold out from the label! |
DARJA KAZIMIRA & ZURA MAKHARADZE - 'Songs From An Obscure Matriarchal Tribe' CD (Unexplained Sounds) - £12
A tribal / ethno-ritual heaviness permeates this release, thanks to a wide variety of percussion including gongs, bones, metal and wood, along with eerie vocals. This is an improvisational cycle recorded by musicians Darja Kazimira and Zura Makharadze during the filming of the experimental, analogue film "Rue de la Lune" by the Irish director Juana Robles, dedicated to the comprehension of one matriarchal generation, embraced by the tendency of painful transformation and self-absorption, striving throughout the performance to get out of these boundaries, to heal and be reborn. All the music written for the film was created during the live performance documented by the director in Tbilisi, in the studio house where the authors of this cycle live and work. The musicians were also characters, performing a bodily performance that unfolded on the ruins of the Karmir monastery. The six artists represent in Rue de la Lune - the Healer, the Widow, the Lover, the Jester and the Artist in a female household out of space and time going through dreamlike healing processes in desperate attempts to liberate themselves from subconscious dynamics that span multiple generations. "By mixing together creative vocalism, electroacoustic improvisation, and Eastern ethnic music influences, they have created an album that sounds genuinely unique and is jaw-droppingly good. This is an album that will transport you to another time and place, as it soothes and disturbs in equal measure. Incredible" (This Is Darkness). Ltd x 100 copies (CD-proper) in a digipak. |
DEV-I-ANT - 'Progression Of The Wolf' CD (Reverse Alignment) - £12
Canadian duo Devin Sabatini and Anthony Prugo are the artistic minds behind the Dark Ambient project Dev-I-Ant. Their creations take inspiration from a mutual love for horror films and soundtracks, as well as from the industrial and dark ambient music of past decades. Taking the listener on a nightmarish journey through the mind of a man slowly transforming into a werewolf, the album was fittingly recorded in the Canadian north in a cabin in the woods. "An album of deliciously dark music combining elements of drone ambient and post-industrial. This is seriously unsettling stuff, and not for the faint-hearted - with haunting soundscapes and eerie field recordings working together to produce an unforgettable audio experience that will have you reaching to switch the lights on. Wonderful" (This Is Darkness). Mastered by Simon Heath (Atrium Carceri). Digipak with free pin badge and artcard. |
FRANCISCO LÓPEZ - 'Dynamo' CD (Unexplained Sounds) - £12
Dynamo is a large-scale suspended artwork specifically developed for the atrium of the Spanish Pavilion at Expo Dubai 2020. Created by Daniel Canogar in collaboration with composer / audio-artist Francisco López, the artwork is composed of sculptural screens that form three interlaced loops. A large-scale, multi-channel sound system arranged in a ring of 16 concealed speakers is built into the walls that project sound into the space, in ever-changing sonic combinations triggered by the visual patterns from the screens. Surrounding the artwork is a spiralling ramp with interactive sensors under the handrail, translating touch into animated sparks on the screens. The more the public activates the sensors, the more vibrant Dynamo's visual and sonic content becomes. Mimicking the workings of an electromagnetic dynamo, the artwork eventually collects enough energy to generate a thundering experience that resonates through the atrium. The ecstatic discharge is followed by a quieter mode, which gives way to a new cycle of gradual build-up. Dynamo is a meditation on the circulatory nature of energy and the synchronization of biological and technological systems. It is also an invitation for us to imagine and participate in the dynamos that will energize our future. "There is a slightly industrial feeling here, like walking along a conveyer belt in a big industrial building. Machines buzz and hum, and there is a strong, energetic flow to the sounds. Sometimes the sound of water sets events in motion, like a good old waterwheel but with a more electric feeling... There is some mighty intense music here, even without the tactile feeling of the installation" (Vital Weekly). Ltd x 200 copies in a 6-panel digisleeve. |
JETON HOXHA - 'Vowel' CD (ZeroK / Unexplained Sounds) - £12
This longform drone / dark ambient work is mainly based on looped electroacoustic sounds created by sources like field recordings, computer and synthesizer being processed through various filters, plug-ins and hardware signal processing. Through his pure drone music, worthy heir of Thomas Köner's early drone art, Jeton Hoxha considers the relationships between time, memory and context through the construction of an immersive sonic space. "Vowel" meditates on the inevitable progression of time and our distortion of the past through the imperfections of memory. "Vowel" was recorded live by Jeton Hoxha at Braka Miladinov culture centre of Struga, Macedonia, in June 2018. Previously published as a digital-only release, remastered and now available on CD for the first time. Ltd x 100 copies (CD-proper) in a digipak. |
KLEISTWAHR - 'For The Lives Once Lived' CD (Fourth Dimension) - £11.50
The 15th album from UK industrial-noise legend Kleistwahr has retained the molten intensity it has always been propelled by since Gary Mundy (Ramleh / Broken Flag boss) founded the project in the early 1980s. While the work occasionally seems as though it draws from the same dusty religious setting as some of Messiaen's wonderful organ compositions, there's still an all-encompassing blanket of ravaged psychedelia firmly laced with blood-flecked barbs to help counter this. When Kleistwahr's music seems poised to elevate the atmospheric gestures towards the sublime and elegiac, there's always a gaping maw lined with razor-edged teeth lurking nearby to help keep all those lofty hopes and expectations from getting above themselves. Like Rameh, Kleistwahr explores vast and often searing swathes of sound, sometimes tempered to a more atmospheric approach and at other times cranked to the kind of levels bleeding ears make for a perfectly natural response. Mastered by Sion Orgon. Ltd x 300 copies in a gatefold mini-LP style sleeve, based on the Broken Flag design featuring photos by Chris Low. |
MARIO LINO STANCATI - 'Revision' CD (Unexplained Sounds) - £12
"Revision" weaves a mesmerizing tapestry of improvisations and compositions, where beauty and harmony can arise only from the depths of artistic intuition. The absence of formal constraints places Stancati's music in proximity to the pioneering experiments of electronic music visionaries, all the while remaining seamlessly integrated into the chaotic tapestry of modernity that surrounds us. "Revision" unveils a captivating series of recordings spanning the years 2017-2021, all presented on CD for the first time. This extensive body of work illuminates the electronic and concrete music facets of Stancati's artistic journey, complemented by daring explorations into field recordings, vocal anomalies and electronic innovations. Ltd x 200 copies in a 6-panel matt digipak. |
NIHIL IMPVLSE - 'Anabasis' CD (Unexplained Sounds) - £12
"Anabasis" is the drone industrial soundtrack to the constant strife for the pursuit of progress. An ascent chased through conflict and war, mankind's path is oblivious of the past and unaware of the future. Yet, we march on. Amidst haunting clouds of ignorance, across shifting wastelands of history's debris. Our hands are dirty, our legacy is tainted. Yet, we fight on. Unheroic guerrillas in a constantly evolving struggle against space, time, each other, ourselves, the unknown. Zealot inquisitors unraveling the threads of secret plots and conspiracies, and martyrs of lost causes burned on the stake of obscurantism. Hindered and beguiled by the shadows of tradition, inspired and motivated by deceptive truths, we raise our banners, we waive our flags... and so, in an accelerating spiral of creation and destruction, new worlds are conquered, new days are seized. Until the omega point of our species will be reached, maybe in an exploding flash of post human intelligence, or maybe in a silent disintegration of human idiocy. "This is an album that grabs you by the throat, pulls you into the shadows, and then shows you the universal darkness everyone tries to pretend doesn't exist. With glitches, distorted machine sounds, and eerie industrial drones, this isn't easy listening - but that's the point. Outstanding." (This Is Darkness). Ltd x 200 copies in a matt digipak. |
PHOANØGRAMMA - 'The Void On A Distant Sun' CD (Reverse Alignment) - £12
"The Void On A Distant Sun" is an isolationist Dark Ambient journey through a closed but infinite space, where a beam of light traverses a cosmos made of dark corridors and empty rooms vast light years away. The longform tracks explore a universe where the boundaries between reality and imagination blurs, and music becomes a bridge between forgotten worlds made of synaesthesia and perceptual illusions. The opening track is a "literary" introduction to the infinite chambers that form the basis of the visual suggestion that gave rise to the concept of the album. Echoing the patient passage through the labyrinth of structures, time twists as it lingers on the threshold of each room, absorbing the stories and memories etched into the walls. The track 'In Absentia', emerges from these echoes of memories as a haunting lament that hides in the silence of emptiness. The sensory deprivation brought on by absence eventually leads to the final track, 'Apophenia'. In this realm of chaos, the beam of light bears witness to the convergence between perception and matter, in a long final suite that concludes the album until it dissolves. Ltd x 200 copies in a 6-panel digisleeve. |
THOMAS BEY WILLIAM BAILEY - 'Metaphysics Of Autonomous Shadows' CD (Fifteen Minutes Of Anonymity) - £12
The brand new album from the electronic composer aims for an almost unsettling intimacy with which to accompany a noir-drenched journey into songs of unstable identity and uncertain final destinations. Guided by a sense of being "perpetually in-transit", TBWB's signature chaotic / musique concrete-style edits melt into passages of dislocated, ethereal ambience. While "Metaphysics..." features many familiar elements, there are some wholly new sonic colours in the palette: emphatic choral voices, ringing metallic percussion, various Moog growls and murmurs. In many places you'll encounter an atypical "old school" musique concrete feel, in terms of the rapid instrumental interchanges, and this is meant to provide a sense of contrast and continuity with other segments of strange, spectral, post-industrial ambience. Influenced / guided by composers who have accomplished a similar altered state with their sonic tools: Giacinto Scelsi, Francis Dhomont, Iannis Xenakis, Sonic Arts Union, Robert Ashley, Coil, Nurse With Wound. Glossy digipak. |
VARIOUS ARTISTS - 'Anthology Of Contemporary Post Industrial Music' CD (Unexplained Sounds) - £12
The 20th century was marked by a turning point in the way human beings relate to technology. Since the Industrial Revolution until the advent of personal computers and the internet, we have watched almost one hundred years of technological revolutions. We also saw the rise of a new music genre that was actually translating this industrial, chaotic, in-between wars and highly technological scenario of the 1970s: it was the birth of "Industrial Music", a term coined by Monte Cazazza in 1977. Artists such as Throbbing Gristle, Cabaret Voltaire, Clock DVA, The Leather Nun, Monte Cazazza, SPK, and Einstürzende Neubauten shared defining characteristics of industrial music, (mis)using technology, moving away from the traditional guitar, bass and drums set-up. A focus on non-Western sound structures, utilising found sounds, tape recordings, harsh noise and rhythm over melody, with a focus on the 'other', self-production, and a complete disregard for the music industry. The heritage of industrial music continues, often under the umbrella of the term "post-industrial" music. This compilation showcases music from Europe, USA, Japan, China, Jordan, Nepal and Tunisia, from: Ying Shui Di Jiang, Inner Paradise, Virus2020, Yousef Kawar, HLER, Kazuya Ishigami, Alone In The Hollow Garden, Mario Lino Stancati, VÄäristymä, Adonai Atrophia, The Tara Experiment, and Cities Last Broadcast. So many things changed in our societies since the 70's, and the musicians focus is on new topics, challenges, questions, but the original spirit of that underground revolution still pulses behind the contemporary post industrial music frequencies. Ltd x 200 copies in a matt digipak. |
VARIOUS ARTISTS - 'Anthology Of Electroacoustic Music From Finland' CD (Unexplained Sounds) - £12
There is a long tradition of Electroacoustic music in Finland beginning in the 1950's with the experimentation of tape music, but stretching back to Finland's first electronic musical instrument, the Sähkövalopiano (Electric Light Piano), built in 1894 in the Polytechnic Institute (now Aalto University) in Helsinki. Finland also has a tradition of blending archaic traditional music in the contemporary music scene; the Kalevala tradition for example dates back centuries before today and the instruments associated with it were used to accompany shepherds on their lonely watches, or village dance parties bringing joy and sense of belonging to communities. These musical traditions have been revitalised by being used in a modern context, not only in its original form, but also being integrated into electroacoustic realm by the musicians willing to experiment. This compilation is proof that the Finnish musical tradition and its instruments are still alive and taking steps to new sound territories. Features: Pekko Käppi, Kohellus, Heikki Lindgren + Rauno Nieminen, Aarniseppä (2 tracks), Teemu Korpipää, Heikki Lindgren + Mika Rintala, Hulva, and [ówt krì]. Ltd x 200 copies in a matt digipak. |
VARIOUS ARTISTS - 'Mysterium, Incubus Et Terror (Music Inspired By Edgar Allan Poe Stories)' CD (Eighth Tower Records / Unexplained Sounds) - £12
Edgar Allan Poe's power to inspire artists has been a significant factor of his enduring popularity, as has the mysterious man himself. Horror stories of plague, madness and murderer, haunting phantasms of guilt, grief and loss... the supernatural drifting in with a disconcerting subtlety, even when wreathed in Gothic robes. His tales are relatable, timeless and ultimately haunting and therefore they and Poe endure. His influence and inspiration remains a persistent vitality like the echo of a beating heart or a strange mewling behind the walls. Dark Ambient / Drone / Experimental musicians from various countries give their musical interpretation of 10 classic stories from the superlative productions of the American literary master: Rapoon, Michael Bonaventure, Kloob, Henrik Meierkord (Black Tape For A Blue Girl), Mario Lino Stancati, Kloob & Onasander, Morgen Wurde feat. David Strother, Lars Bröndum, Mombi Yuleman, and [ówt krì]. Ltd x 200 copies in a 6-panel matt digipak. |
VARIOUS ARTISTS - 'The Necronomicon Pages' CD (Eighth Tower Records / Unexplained Sounds) - £12
Does Abdul Alhazred's cursed Necronomicon, the best known of the "forbidden books", really exist? Is it really part of the so-called "pseudobiblia" (books that do not exist) or did H.P. Lovecraft base the Mythos of Cthulhu and all the vast, incredible Pantheon that pervades his fascinating and disturbing literary adventures on it? In 1937 Lovecraft wrote, "The term Necronomicon came to my mind during a dream, including the etymology". Despite this, the belief that the Necronomicon - an occult text containing knowledge from beyond the Earth - is a real book persists. Legend has it that Lovecraft's grandfather was an occultist who had a vast library of occult books (including the Necronomicon) that young Howard used to engulf himself in, reading all of them with fervour and becoming a black magician. In this collection of music pieces and soundscapes, eleven dark ambient / drone / esoteric musicians give homage to the Necronomicon and expand the enigmatic mythology with the same passion for the subject as all the other "Mythos" creator: Nam-Khar, Mario Lino Stancati, Infinexhuma, Nubiferous, The Khronos Deathcult, Iron Chthulhu Apocalypse, Mombi Yuleman, Adonai Atrophia,Cal Glover-Wessel,Occult Odyssey, and Plamen Vecnosti. Ltd x 200 copies in a 6-panel matt digipak artwork is beautifully designed by Mr Zarono. |

CAPRICORNI PNEUMATICI - 'Nibbas' CD (Eighth Tower Records / Unexplained Sounds) - £12
The rediscovery of the cult 1989 tape cassette "Nibbas" by Capricorni Pneumatici, originally released by Minus Habens, and now presented on CD for the first time. The band took their name from the Aleister Crowley "Liber A' ASH vel Capricorni Pneumatici SUB FIGURA CCCVII", and between 1987-1991 were one of the most active projects of the esoteric / industrial Italian underground. "The music is tempered and gritty with a great deal of variety on the micro level... The underlying sources include field recordings of natural and human-made sounds, as well as synth and vocal elements, post-industrial clangs, heavily processed voices, sweeping textures, waves, oscillations, drones, and walls of sound... an experimental gem [which] uncannily predicted the future directions of a genre that did not exist at the time." (Avant Music News). Ltd x 200 copies in a digipak.

JFK - 'Avalanche Zone' CD (Fourth Dimension) - £11.50
Originally released on LP in spring 2021 by U.S. label L.I.E.S., this is a timely and well-deserved CD reissue from the Industrial Noise project of Anthony Di Franco (Ramleh, Ethnic Acid, Novatron). Featuring three additional tracks to the original six, "Avalanche Zone" is a weighty and abrasive follow-up to 2018's "Weapon Design" that is propelled by cranium-crunching bass, icy and portentous textures, battlefield rhythms and just the faintest nod to Anthony's love of both old school noise and more contemporary electronic music which refuses to compromise. If you have been paying attention to JFK, especially during more recent years. you won't be disappointed. Two of the bonus tracks are remixes by none other than Kevin Laska (Transitional, Novatron). Ltd x 300 copies in a digipak. |
NOX - 'Opus Unending' CD (Winter-Light) - £11.50
Nox is Croatian artist Jurica Santek (also recording as Aegri Somnia for Cryo Chamber and Efil for Kalpamantra respectively). Here he presents traditional, pitch-black dark ambient, focused on low, sub tones with touches of industrial and horror recordings. Downtune and lo-fi, the feel shifts more towards that of the original dark ambient and death industrial artists from the early period of these genres. Experimental and field recordings were carefully collected and have been used for the construction of an entire album. The main focus is on dark, isolationist soundscapes but also as music without distraction, that can be used as a background meditative for various purposes. The aim is to reach a fluid dark atmosphere that is pleasant and meditational to listen to, but that also has dark and unnerving moments. Ltd x 200 copies in a digipak. |

HIMUKALT - 'Come October' 2 x LP (Tesco Organisation) - £37
"Come October" is the sixth album from Himukalt, the solo project of Nevada-based Ester Kärkkäinen. Originally released as a tape in 2018 (Found Remains), this is the first time on vinyl for the album, and comes with additional 3 tracks based upon source material from the Come October sessions, making up the entire second platter. Remastered for vinyl by Grant Richardson.
"With a sound that is rough and decidedly gritty, the analogue derived tones are soot and rust infused, while the vocals feature as emotional and bile drenched (aka echo distorted / treated). Minimal structure is employed throughout, based around crude abstracted rhythmic programming , choppy static, shuddering distortion and occasional tonal blasts, but the end result is an industrial noise 'post-mortem' style than anything typically of a harsh noise variety. The minimalist approach to sound and composition gives a clear nod to the likes of the psychological and death obsessed sounds of Atrax Morgue, while the sonic treatment of vocals renders them for tonal impact rather than decipherable intent... a liberating release" (Noise Receptor). Ltd x 300 copies in a sumptuous gatefold sleeve, with download card. |
VARIOUS ARTISTS - 'Under The Island (A Compilation Of Experimental Music In Ireland 1960 - 1994)' CD (Nyahh Records) - £12
After two years of digging, hunting, unearthing archives, digitising and a lot of correspondence, Nyahh Records releases a compilation of artists from the deep Irish underground. Experiments with tapes and handmade instruments... sounds that had been left in boxes on tape or cassette have now been cleaned up and presented together in a collection spanning over four decades. "An outstanding compilation that shines a light on Ireland's unsung avant-garde/experimental music underground... A few names may be familiar... FRANS DE WAARD - 'Vital - The Complete Collection 1987-1995' Book (Korm Plastics) - £29
Frans de Waard published Vital, a fanzine for electronic and electroacoustic music, from 1987 to 1995. It was a low-budget, Xeroxed publication, bearing the revolutionary instruction: "No Copyright Publication. Reprint Now!". It featured interviews with Asmus Tietchens, O Yuki Conjugate, Merzbow, P16.D4, Pierre Henry, Jim O'Rourke, Brume, Döc Wor Mirran and many others, hosted discussions on copyright, plagiarism and plunderphonics, house music, ambient music, cassette culture and noise, and included contributions from musicians such as Leigh Landy, Godfried Willem Raes, John Duncan, and GX Jupitter-Larsen. Every issue included reviews of cassette releases, LPs, CDs and books. A total of 44 issues were published. Vital moved online in 1995, where it appeared every week since as Vital Weekly. This book is a reprint of all 44 issues and is a lively record of the heyday of cassette culture and industrial music, but also of developments in the wider field of electronic music. A heavyweight gem with Hard Cover designed by Alfred Boland. 580 pages, 18x25cm. Comes with a free bookmark. Essential!!

RICHARD RAMIREZ / GRUNT - 'Modern Beliefs' CD (Freak Animal) - £11.50
Originally issued on limited LP by Freak Animal (just 100 copies), this rare 1997 vinyl release is reissued onto CD for the first time. The extended edition release contains an additional 10 minutes of unheard material from U.S. Harsh Noise artist Richard Ramirez (Black Leather Jesus, Werewolf Jerusalem), which did not fit onto the original LP, plus the collaborative tracks with Finnish Noise tital Grunt are also slightly longer. The artwork, sound and spirit remains faithful to the original LP, even if the CD format allowed for the additional material / length for a new 52-minute duration! Digipak. |
GRIM - 'White Mountain Face' CD (Old Europa Cafe) - £13
GRIM is the solo project by Jun Konagaya, active in the Japanese and international Industrial scene since the early 80's, as part of the duo White Hospital. GRIM is a very versatile and chameleonic project that can change style and sounds very suddenly, from Industrial to Japanoise, from ambient to power electronics... With GRIM there always are big surprises and new discoveries - such as the new sound and artwork here. "White Mountain Face" will be your ultimate sonic experience, a mix of ritual, broken, doped, childish, and traditional sounds... Enter the T.R.A.N.C.E. experience of White Mountain Face! Gatefold digisleeve with 16-page booklet. |
CAPRICORNI PNEUMATICI - 'Dissections' 2 x CD (ADN) - £14.50
Composed over a period of 4 years, the new work of Industrial / Esoteric / Dark Ambient act Capricorni Pneumatici (whose name is taken from an Aleister Crowley book), is a double CD featuring 8 minimal sound dissections (ranging 5 to 31 minutes) recorded in Sweden, UK and southern Italy. Dissection 1 is a frizzling track based on Tibetan bowl, maracas and "music machine". Dissection 2 is the longest suite, introducing low, calm waves of a forgotten sea that you should listen in a dark room. Dissection introduces percussive echoed noises, while Dissection 4 has a harsher sound produced by synth, electric guitar, tubular bells and soprano saxophone. Dissection 5 is a subtle track based on field recordings treated with skill by CP. Dissection 6 is an airy, echoing track with a lot of movement and different instruments struggling in a crescendo that keeps a dense tension throughout the piece. Dissection 7 is like an electric saw cutting a misty morning. The final track, Dissection 8, ends the album with an ominous ritual ambient piece created using electric guitar and metal percussion. 2CD in double digipak. |
GARETH DAVIS & MACHINEFABRIEK - 'Lucier: Memory Space' LP (God Records) - £18
Inspired by Sonic Arts Union legend Alvin Lucier (one of the American founding fathers of electroacoustic music, concrete experiments and pioneering advances in field of sound-art/installation), Gareth Davis (bass clarinet) and Machinefabriek (field recordings / processing) have delivered a remarkable album here that is firmly rooted in the organic, eccentric and unfathomable world of electronically manipulated avant-garde, rumbling noise and other fascinating sonic debris. The central concept behind Alvin Lucier's "Memory Space" is the representation of another time and place through the use of a new set of sounds. In his instructions, Lucier asks the performer/s to go to an environment and record by any means (notes on paper, graphics, audio recording or by memory) the sound situations that are present, then, at any later time, in a different space, attempt to recreate that situation. |
WORTH - 'Hamper' CD (Aussaat) - £12
An excellent new release from USA Harsh Noise act Worth. "Here, the recorded sounds seem to be played live but the shape of the thing reaches a very concrete or physical dimension of what I like in abstract noise. The excellent dynamic of the pieces here proposed as tracks seem to be extracted from some long practice and genuine use of devices. Perhaps you could say that it's not an easy release or that the listening process is difficult... Worth is a very pleasant thing of living sound and noise which just proves its existence and freshness by itself" (Ruelgo Thedwarf, Le Syndicat). "Crashing electronics, combined with feedback, distortion, bangs on sheets of metal, you know the drill (maybe there is a drill in here, too?). Loud music, sure, but not all the time, as Worth has moments of quietness, if you can believe that. Paranoid sounds that linger on for a while and which may crudely cut out by an explosion of noise terror... there is some of that layer-upon-layer approach, adding noise on noise until it collapses... this is the real stuff" (Vital Weekly). |

SPECIAL INTERESTS 14 & 15 Magazine bundle (Freak Animal) - £16.50
Buy both editions of the double issue above for a special combined price! Regular price £9 each.
The first of a double issue of this essential magazine focusing on the international industrial-noise scene. Not "two-in-one style", but two magazines published at once. When the time came for a new issue, there was enough material to fill two issues, so to honour the 'zine format, and in favour of good design and readability, we are presented with two perfectly-formed issues. All zines.
Issue 14 features interviews with: Decondition, Arvo Zylo, Desgranges / Rectal Nylon, Moozzhead, MIA / Neons, Sodomy From Beyond / Depravar, and Narcolepsia label, plus a "Personality and noise" essay by Mikko A. An essential deep read, and an antithesis to the flash-in-the-pan of social media: something to be "remembered, re-found and cultivated" years down the line. A4, 48 pages.
Issue 15 features interviews with: The Vomit Arsonist, Hive Mind, Vincent Dallas, YANA, Legion Of Andromeda, and Japanese Noise bands / visual artists Erehwon & Neck Of Chaos, plus a survey of New Finnish Noise in 2022, and an essay on cult movie Zardoz by Mikko A. This issue also features a large reviews section. A4, 48 pages. |
