This collaborative album by Drew Daniel (Matmos, The Soft Pink Truth) and John Wiese (Sissy Spacek, Smegma, LHD,) is the fruit of over 10 years of recordings in San Francisco, Los Angeles and Baltimore.
"Continuous Hole" melds improvisation and musique concrète composition into a uniquely sweaty document of labour-intensive rhythm document of labour-intensive rhythm. A finger puzzle of reconciled opposites: lockstep structure and constant flux.
Relentlessly variable source material is relegated to precisely timed gated forms and patterns. Without using any sampling or MIDI sequencing, the rhythmic cuts are constructed entirely from volcanic, gnarled abstraction, and eschew typical genre elements.
Raw yet precise, from mayhem to menace, this is a album of strong contrasts from two American artists discovering common ground in the joy of frenzied cutting. Our personal favourite is 'Abhorred Shears', which reminds of the cut-up works of COIL's LSD yet remains utterly unique.
A prolific recording artist and visual artist with an extensive discography under his own name, and with noise stalwarts Sissy Spacek, John Wiese is currently based in Cleveland. One half of the electronic band Matmos and all of The Soft Pink Truth, Drew Daniel is based in Baltimore.
Mastered by Thomas Dimuzio. Presented in a matt-laminate 6-panel digipak with photography by John Wiese. The cover photograph was shot by John Wiese in Drew Daniel's office on the campus of Johns Hopkins University where Daniel is a Shakespeare professor.

Second - and final - reissue of seminal early 1980's electronic recordings from the British Electric Foundation (B.E.F.), aka HEAVEN 17 / ex-THE HUMAN LEAGUE's Martyn Ware and Ian Craig Marsh, with Adi Newton (CLOCK DVA / THE FUTURE), and John Wilson (HEAVEN 17), originally a cassette-only release (1981).

Following two groundbreaking albums ('Reproduction' and 'Travelogue'), the original line-up of Sheffield-based The Human League split in half in late 1980. The two primary musicians in the group, Martyn Ware and Ian Craig Marsh, formed a new production company - the British Electric Foundation (B.E.F.) - and signed a deal with Virgin Records to write and produce up to six albums a year. The artists they were to produce would include Heaven 17, their own new band formed with vocalist Glenn Gregory.
B.E.F. would also release their own material, commencing with the music on this collection, which was issued in various permutations in 1981-82. Its initial release in March 1981 was a limited edition numbered eight song cassette entitled 'Music for Stowaways', with 'Stowaways' being a reference to the original name for the then-new Sony portable cassette player - later renamed the Walkman - of which B.E.F. were great fans. 'Music for Stowaways' was intended to be listened to on such a device. The cassette was followed by a seven song LP, 'Music For Listening To', which had a slightly different tracklisting, while other B.E.F. music was utilised for B-sides of early singles by Heaven 17.
This music was among the first recorded by Martyn and Ian directly after their departure from The Human League. Some tracks had evolved from other recordings they were working on at the time, such as 'Groove Thang' - an instrumental version of the debut single by Heaven 17 - and 'The Old At Rest', which derived from a version of 'Wichita Lineman' by Jimmy Webb, their very first recording with Glenn that would subsequently appear on B.E.F.'s 'Music of Quality and Distinction, Volume One' covers album in 1982.
Supporting musicians on 'Music For Stowaways' included Adi Newton of Clock DVA (who had been a member of The Future with Martyn and Ian pre-Human League) on the track 'Uptown Apocalyse', with John Wilson (who provided incredible guitar and bass for Heaven 17) appearing on 'Groove Thang'.
The innovative sounds heard on 'Music For Stowaways' were an inspiration to many aspiring electronic artists. In 2015, Uncut magazine included it in a list of the '50 Greatest Lost Albums of All Time'.

Taking inspiration from the beautiful, but often harsh landscapes and environments of his home on Anglesey, North Wales, Llyn Y Cwn has built on the nautical theme of "Du Y Moroedd" (Cold Spring). These tracks are based on field recordings relating to the ocean, and could be seen as a companion piece to the album.

An archaeological excursion in found sound - wandering through the art and memory of a real place, "Mother Moon" is an origin story for 400 Lonely Things. An imaginary soundtrack to the many years of solitude Richard Scott Hill's Minotauress spent hanging in the musty, secret winding halls of Banning Mill.

Cavernous heavy industrial, primitive machine rhythms, and cold metallic loops created on old synths with very little post-production. Originally released on LP in 1989 (CMI) this monumental album is now available for the first time since 2001. Also available on digital for the first time ever!

Advokat Ihrer Hoheit was a short-lived dark fetishist industrial side project of Söldnergeist's Alexis Weimer.This collection features the act's only two albums "Opferbereit" and "Studien Uber Den Zerfall" from 1993 (LP and tape respectively), both released by Art Konkret; compilation tracks on labels such as Slaughter Productions, Tesco Organisation, Blaster Records and Hands Productions, and a few unreleased tracks. Much sought-after solid death industrial and powerful Germanic old school fetish electronics. Re-recorded and remastered in 2019 with artwork by Mauro Berchi (Eibon Records). Fourth album from Finland's Aethyrick. Since their formation in 2016, the duo of Gall and Exile have begun a meteoric ascent in the Black Metal underground, boldly and confidently etching a unique headspace, bountifully brimming with magick and mysticism simultaneously aeons-old and strikingly modern.  ALIÉNOR GOLVET - 'Point, Line, Surface' CD (Ferns Recordings) - £11.50
Debut album from this French artist under her own name; previously releasing as A Lie Or, and Perlesvaus. Her music is an exploration of sterility, mundanity and stillness interpreted through personal feelings and subjective experience. The composition process is intuitive and personal, using recordings of souvenirs of lost moments, natural and urban empty spaces, microphone and object manipulation, deformed voices, non-expertly played instruments, resonances. "Field recordings, object manipulation, and sounds in micro and macro perspectives are all sculpted into stories... Somewhere on the scale of musique concrète (meaning total control over the composed results) and electroacoustic improvisation (which means, well, improvised), this goes both ways" (Vital Weekly).  ASHTRAY NAVIGATIONS - 'One From Then Another' CD (Fourth Dimension) - £11.50
Phil Todd's existence as Ashtray Navigations began in the mid-1990s. Since then, it has been everything from a fully-fledged group to a solo endeavour that's embraced ur-drone-orientated noise, sprawling psychedelia, crude electronics and the more lysergic realms of the avant-garde. Amongst many other things. On "One From Then Another", however, we are presented with two lengthy pieces (the first of which is broken into two sections and clocks up almost 30 minutes in total) that trawl through not only the most troubled and darkest psychedelic waters oozing from a subterranean space, but also the interstellar jazz-fusion of prime Herbie Hancock. To state that both pieces take the listener on a journey would make for a cliche best avoided, but this is precisely what they do. Mastered by Siôn Orgon.  COLIN ANDREW SHEFFIELD - 'Don't Ever Let Me Know' LP (Auf Abwegen) - £18
"Don't Ever Let Me Know" comprises two lengthy pieces of multiple movements and moods. As a kind of ode to his late father, Sheffield has employed samples entirely taken from (or inspired by) El Paso, the city in which both men were born. The two audio assemblages mirror the ways in which loss and memory are processed - with both melancholy and wonder in equal measure: at once beautiful and confounding, nostalgic and emotional. "The first half of the LP consists of loops of dissolving music, open resonate spaces, and bizarrely treated frequencies. Density builds and there is a sense of speed throughout, as he swaps out musical loops for harsher, digital sounds. There is definitely pre-recorded music used as some of the source material, but Sheffield sculpts it into something entirely different. The other side is more polarized in sound, blending lush, melodic layers and buzz saw-like noise passages... There is a distinct combination of quieter, reflective sections and harsher swells, with his careful manipulation of delays and feedback bringing things just to the point of chaos but never crossing that threshold."  DIABLERIE - 'Choreomania' CD (Septenary Arts / The Sinister Flame) - £11.50
Diablerie surfaced out of the shadows in 2020 with a digital-only release called "MMXX", catching the attention of Septenary Arts who now bring this recording onto CD. While waiting for the physical release of "MMXX", the dark mind behind this entity, KG (also a member of Barshasketh), prepared the first official album, "Choreomania", which continues where "MMXX" left off. "Choreomania" is a concept album about the medieval dancing plague of 1518 in which hundreds of citizens of Strasbourg danced uncontrollably and apparently unwillingly for days on end, as many as 400 people were eventually consumed by the dancing compulsion, with a A number of them died from their exertions. Primitive sorcery and spectral communion... you'll find yourself quickly within a beautiful, alluring and transcendental world of ancient demonolatry and magick.

 DIABLERIE - 'MMXX' CD (Septenary Arts / The Sinister Flame) - £11.50
This was the first release from the mysterious Diablerie, which garnered them worldwide attention. Surfacing in 2020 with this self-explanatory release, "MMXX" was originally only released digitally via Diablerie's own Bandcamp. However, the recording immediately caught the attention of Septenary Arts and it was agreed that SA would bring out the recording in physical formats. Diablerie's audial art has been described as primitive sorcery and spectral communion - and, indeed, you'll find yourself quickly within an alluring and transcendental world of ancient demonolatry and magick.The dark mind behind this entity, KG, originally hailed from New Zealand and now resides in Serbia. He is also a founding member of Black Metal act Barshasketh.

 HAR SHATAN - 'Manum Inicere Alicui' LP (The Sinister Flame) - £18
Formed in 2002, Germany's Har Shatan are truly a black metal band from a different time. The sole work of Zepar, Har Shatan hail from an era where extremely limited tapes and vinyl were keys to grim worlds beyond, not prizes to boast about on social media. A time when Germania held a closed-yet-potent scene, fostered by the likes of Sombre and Solistitium. Rawness and passion were king. Following a long silence since their debut album, "His Legacy" (2009), a fell wind has blown through the cobwebs and brings forth "Manum Inicere Alicui". Draped in a monochromatic fog of velvety darkness, many moods appear across this new opus, making for a totality of arcane black metal magick rarely seen with this authentically nowadays. The blistering rawness, poignant songwriting mystical synths and attendant textures result in sorrow, hatred, nostalgia, triumph, or anywhere else your soul wants to go. Comes with full-size lyric insert and presented with matte finish throughout.

 KONRAD KRAFT - 'Nifbin Circle' LP (Auf Abwegen) - £18
"Nifbin Circle" is the fourth release by Detlef Funder, aka Konrad Kraft, on the Cologne label. Sounds generated with two apps on the iPad provided the basic structures and the sound space. The strangely enraptured textures created in this way, with a subtle percussive touch, were partly combined with supporting beats in the course of further processing. Thus, after more than 30 years, tracks with rudimentary melodies and rhythms were created again. "There is a great interplay of percussive moments and slightly melancholic melodies... crackling and melodic pads create a slightly dark-melancholic atmosphere... Kraft creates a very unique and idiosyncratic form of abstract electro-pop, whose "rudimentary melodies" are convincing." (African Paper). Ltd x 212 copies with download card.

"Hunger For Life" is mainly made up of a great rusty sounding recording of Linekraft One-Man Live "Hunger For Life Vol. 1" event, which happened in January of this year in Tokyo. It is also supplemented with three new bonus compositions. 50 mins of Japanese industrial harsh noise / Power Electronics from Linekraft (aka Masahykou Masaki Okubo of MOTHRA / metal percussionist with GRIM / Threeplugs Records boss). "Pure Holistic Evil" is a solo album by Elektronik from YUTANI (whose debut appeared on Zoharum in 2022). While the trio's music is the result of ideas from three different personalities, PAARABOLA is the culmination of the ideas of one member. Contrary to all assumptions, on the debut album we find 100% electronic music, circulating within the framework of dark electro / glitchy electronics.  RALF WEHOWSKY & RICHARD FRANCIS - 'R' CD (Auf Abwegen) - £12
A collaboration between Germany's Ralf Wehowsky and New Zealand's Richard Francis. On a trip from Auckland over Worpswede to Eggenstein, Richard Francis visited Ralf Wehowsky in September 2013. For the recording sessions Richard used his analogue synth and electronics, while Ralf had a desktop and a laptop for producing digital electronic sounds. For bridging the antagonistic sound worlds the input of one sound system was fed with the output of the other and vice versa. "On the opener the music becomes almost like a cosmic synthesizer scape or something working with sine waves... the spaciousness of this piece works very well as an introduction to what's coming... It has that complexity that we know from RLW, the aspect of multi-layered sound, the collage approach we know from musique concrète... Francis' modular electronics move around like snowflakes, like corroded spaceships, or simply recall what we call 'early electronics'... The rusty spaceship and explosions of dark matter cause massive disruption, as noise isn't kept out of the equation... a bumpy ride, neatly going all over the place, from strict noise to sheer silence, from densely orchestrated nightmares to single lines floating about...  RUDOLF EB.ER - 'Heimoror - Hexes I-VI' 2 x CD (Om Kult) - £17
"Heimoror" is the übertitle of Rudolf Eb.er's (Runzelstirn & Gurgelstòck, Schimpfluch-Gruppe) audio-working period 2021/22. Most of the source material, documents of obscure and psychomagick acts, were recorded at the attic of the old, but newly inhabited, Om Kult farmhouse near Osaka, Japan. Combined with Rudolf's organ and violin playing and often edited by the use of monaural cassette recorders and analogue filters, the recordings reflect these grim, animistic-shintōid events and deranged lo-fi rituals committed. The "Heimoror" works were initiated with the "Death Ceremonies" recordings (split album with Controlled Death, Cold Spring 2020) and gave base to the albums titled "Necro Orgia", "Goat Blood Communion" and "Malediktiom". The "Heimoror Hexes I-VI" are 6 chapters (2 hours) of selected and composed or decomposed, partial gross and archaic, partial developed, aural Om Kult rites, presented here for the first time.  THANOS CHRYSAKIS - 'Manifold Vista' CD (Auf Abwegen) - £12
Six new floating and dense pieces by Greek composer, producer, and sound artist Thanos Chrysakis. Rarely can something so meticulously assembled together sound so fluid. A distinct, disciplined sense for composition emerges from each of these drone-ambient / experimental works, displaying formal integrity while at the same time, they are also effervescent, forceful, fiercely idiosyncratic and beautifully shaped and transformed. "Manifold Vista" discloses an expanded and detailed vista of sound's interiority forming a strangely pleasurable, not to mention engaging, experience. Ltd x 150 copies in a digipak.

 TUNNELS OF AH - 'The Smeared Cloth (2012-2018 Unearthed)' 2 x CD (Zoharum) - £16
"The Smeared Cloth" is a double CD compilation containing TUNNELS OF AH recordings from 2012-2018, which have not yet been published on any medium. The first disc is filled with compositions from the period before the debut album "Lost Corridors" on Cold Spring and outtakes from the sessions for "Thus Avici", the next album for the British label. The second disc contains tracks recorded during and between the sessions for "Surgical Fires" and "Charnel Transmissions". Although they were created as loose compositions, out of the concepts clearly outlined on each of the aforementioned albums, they sound incredibly coherent, giving impression of being part of a concept release. This makes them a pleasure to listen to; especially when we get carried away in the world created by Stephen Ah Burroughs (Head Of David) with the sounds characteristic of his work. Sometimes they evoke associations with ancient rituals, intensifying the impression of Egyptian darkness, the feeling of coldness and emptiness coming as if from a deep dungeon, and with them an echo. All this is a superstructure for the 21 tracks filling both discs, outlined and maintained, in a convention that allows them to be stylistically located somewhere between isolating dark ambient and death industrial, where the gloom aura and dense, mechanical structures coexist as if in symbiosis, thanks to which the balance between building the atmosphere and reflecting the true nature of the industrial collision. This release is undoubtedly a must-have for TOAH fans, but it can also delight those who appreciate death industrial at a high level. Ltd x 300 copies in a 6-panel digisleeve. |
 WHITE STAINS - 'Singleminded Dualisms' CD (Zoharum) - £11.50
Sweden's White Stains will come to mind of many thanks to the debut album, recorded together with Psychic TV "Live At Stockholm". However, the history of this band and its metamorphoses goes back much further. Founded by Carl Abrahamsson, from the beginning it served as a tool for proclaiming manifestos inspired by the works of, among others, Aleister Crowley (White Stains is the title of one of the most important texts of the British magician) and other proponents of free thought. While the issues they raised were invariably focused around the subject of occultism and secret knowledge, in the musical layer the band underwent many metamorphoses: from occult / Goth rock through ambient to experimental electronics. As their style crystallized, Carl and Thomas Tibert renamed White Stains to Cotton Ferox. This disc is a collection of all the short publications that preceded their debut, recorded in the years 1987-1989 and released at the same time on 7" and 12" EP only (mostly through TOPY Scandinavia), and subsequently unavailable on any other format since. Ltd x 300 copies in a 6-panel digipak, with sleeve notes by Carl Abrahamsson - a great introduction to listening to the material, pointing to the context in which the compositions were created. |

 HIMUKALT - 'Dreaming Of A Dead Girl' CD (Tesco Organisation) - £12.50
CD reissue of the 2021 vinyl-only album (Tesco). Himukalt was born from the obsession, addiction, and the impure thoughts of American noise artist Ester Kärkkäinen. Her impulse for self-destruction, co-mingles with self-discovery, as she confesses broken tales about sex work, manic-depression, social anxiety, dysphoria and psychic parasites. She swaddles those appropriations from her life and those around her in the aestheticized violence of power electronics and a death industrial negativity, similar to that of Lille Roger, or Atrax Morgue. If facets from Kärkkäinen's earlier albums gave you a glimpse of seeing the world of sex workers, "Dreaming Of A Dead Girl" lets you inside to feel their world. Clandestine, this is a door you close behind you. Through torment and despair, in darkness, a finality dissolves through hope. Metallic fluttering and empty thuds of disregarded heartbeats transmute sounds at times more substantive than the soiled words you are hearing. Yet, in the end, through all the purring, scrambled anxiety, I feel like the defiled have assumed control. Even if just by mentally disconnecting from the physical acts and escaping back, all alone, to a fractured inner psyche "an agony that tore her in two". 6-panel digipak with additional artwork. |
 CHRIS DREIER (DIE TÖDLICHE DORIS) & TIM LÖHDE - 'MK - CT' LP (Fang Bomb) - £18
MK/CT is the duo of Chris Dreier (Die Tödliche Doris) and Tim Löhde. Spree is the main river that flows through Berlin. It's not often that it gets cold enough for the river to freeze over but a few years ago, the ice lay solid. Chris Dreier recorded the sounds of the ice, the cracking and popping as the temperature changed. He sent the recordings to Tim Löhde, beginning the musical correspondence that defines MK/CT. Dreier and Löhde have continued to send sounds to each other - field recordings, voices, recordings of synthesizers and pianos - with the intent of composing incrementally. Adding, removing and transforming the composition with each receipt and return... one element and one layer at the time... back and forth, until the finished piece emerges. Ghédalia Tazartès left us in February 2021 just as Bisou were finalized the editing and the cover art of his new album with him. Unfortunately he will never see the finished object. This record is therefore particularly important. He opened his archives to select unpublished pieces, organising them in two long suites. This work took almost two years (finding the pieces among dozens of sometimes very old CDRs, checking that these pieces had not already been published, processing the sound to obtain an aesthetic unity and a coherent order, etc). This record is therefore a melting pot of unreleased tracks which cover a large part of his career. The lyrics include Ghédalia's own personal poetry and music he wrote for two texts by Antonin Artaud and Émile Verhaeren, that he performs in an avant-garde / intense way. Ghédalia really loved a series of photographs by Isabelle Magnon at a 2018 exhibition and immediately asked to use them for the cover of a future album. It is therefore these photos which illustrate Ghédalia Tazartès' final album.

Robert Moore and Mary Ann Maclean met through Scientology, married and took the name de Grimston. They founded The Process in the mid-60's, later separating themselves from the group and giving themselves the name "The Omega"; within the Process Robert is referred to as "the Teacher" and Mary Ann as "the Oracle". Written in the 60's by The Omega it reveals how the Gods Jehovah, Lucifer and Satan have vowed apocalyptic vengeance against man. Read by Genesis P-Orridge (Psychic TV, Throbbing Gristle) in 2011.  QUENTIN ROLLET & JAMES WORSE - 'A Fothermass Abominesque' CD (ReQords) - £12
This is the first collaboration by the two Nurse With Wound collaborators - Paris-based Quentin Rollet and Melbourne-based James Worse. Quentin has played with many musicians including the Red Krayola, the Legendary Pink Dots, and Nurse With Wound. He plays the alto sax and the sopranino, the smallest saxophone in the original saxophone family. James Worse has also worked with Nurse With Wound, Andrew Liles, Expose Your Eyes, and more. He plays percussion and spoken word on some of the tracks here, with both using electronics. "Processed percussion, cut up and dosed in smaller pieces to the listener, sometimes creating a groove at some point and getting slightly distorted over time, as in A Toxic Whimsleybottom. Worse's voice gets distorted (in parallel) as well, creating a sound world that is familiar and simultaneously very alien. Hints of melodies form, get repeated a few times and fade away to be followed by expertly controlled chaos. The words or lyrics James Worse has written are made-up stories with made-up words in the best Fluxus tradition. Non-sensical but loaded with meaning, which is a paradox, of course. The music ranges from atonal tone sequences to tonal melodies. 'Smollows', for example, is almost like a ballad. It's a lovely experience residing in this sound world conjured up by these experienced musicians. Excellent release!"

Deluxe vinyl edition of last year's CD by German ritual ambient bands Nam-Khar (Winter-Light / Zazen Sounds) and Vortex (Cyclic Law / Tesco Organisation), joining forces to draw inspiration from the Nag Hammadi scriptures and their spiritual and cultural context. They fused their distinctive sounds to create a careful interpretation of the source texts from a pan-religious and spiritual perspective, resulting in hypnotic soundscapes and rhythmic patterns. The idea of this album concept is to maintain the spirit of ancient and mostly forgotten paths of wisdom to a contemporary audience. It is dedicated to the spiritual seeker. The Nag Hammadi scriptures (also known as the Nag Hammadi library) are a collection of early Christian texts that are mainly attributable to the Gnosis and were never integrated in official versions of the bible. They were found by local farmers near the small Egyptian town of Nag Hammadi in December of 1945 and probably date from 1st-4th centuries. These codices may have belonged to a nearby Pachomian monastery and were buried after Saint Athanasius condemned the use of non-canonical books in his Festal Letter of 367 A.D. The discovery of these texts significantly influenced knowledge of early Christianity and Gnosticism. Mastered for vinyl by Robin Storey (Rapoon).  THE SUSPENDED APPARITION - 'It's Sealed Inside The Church' CD (Misantropia Records) - £12
The ultra haunting dark ambient debut from M.W. Daniels explores his long-time fascination with the paranormal. Ice cold drones, strange voices and an overwhelming atmosphere of horror. The Suspended Apparition began in the winter of 2022; the idea had long been something that its creator and composer Daniels had wanted to bring to fruition. His huge fascination with master composers Krzysztof Penderecki, György Ligeti and Edgard Varése next to outlandish English underground classics such as Current 93's "Nature Unveiled" and Nurse with Wound's "Homotopy To Marie", coupled with his long interest in the supernatural, led to him to set about composing the music that became The Suspended Apparition. The electronic compositions themselves all work with space, choir, strings and many other uncharted sounds to create a beyond eerie sound world that harks back to the aforementioned elders of composition while moving into another area entirely, a more alien area you could say.
