THE TELESCOPES - 'Experimental Health'

The latest chapter in The Telescopes' idiosyncratic exploration of sound combines hallucinatory ballads with transcendent melodies, clanging, and lo-fi buzzes, with a substantial amount of crushing and sound degradation. The result is an album radiating a dark and abrasive, yet ethereal energy.
Created entirely independently by Stephen Lawrie in a remote cottage in West Yorkshire between January to May 2022, the record was made with broken toys and cheap synths - mostly Pocket Operators and miniature synths, with no guitars present. The complexity of sound rests within the simplicity of the composition and musical arrangements.
The bonus remixes are two divergent interpretations by Black Market Karma and Mosaic Runes, both artists deploying their own respective skill sets and aura. The former with unfurling guitars and live drums, spreading a magnetic warmth and charm. The latter returning to the cryptic spectres haunting the record, drawing out the hidden spirit of broken equipment and infusing the tracks with their signature fractured ice.

A documentation of prolific Japanese noise master Merzbow's double show at London's Cafe OTO in October 2016. Rhythm-driven and rammed with highly sculpted frequencies, Akita's sound is entirely remorseless.
Furious squalls and delicate sine-warps post this one on the more psychedelic end of Akita's output. Truly relentless, it is still hard to believe he created "Untitled Knife I" on a casual Saturday afternoon. Be careful with that volume...
"Performed on what looked like a hand-built guitar-like instrument and aided by a table full of electronics, all controlled by the legendary Japanese artist. The concert was very much about the physical impact of the sound. At several points during the set I could feel the fabric of my jeans and jacket vibrating from the extreme frequencies played at excessive volume... an intense and constant sonic attack" (Irregular Notes On Music).

BILL LASWELL & PETE NAMLOOK - 'Outland'

The 'Outland' album series was a collaborative endeavour by the visionary US bassist-producer Bill Laswell and the late German musician Pete Namlook that pushed the boundaries of dark ambient and electronic music. Spanning five albums released over a thirteen year period from 1994, this new boxset serves as a testament to the creative synergy between the two masterminds.
At the time the duo joined forces, the New York-based Bill Laswell was already a famous producer with a massive client list that included cutting-edge rock, pop, funk, jazz and electronic artists, but he had also founded the Axiom label in 1989 and been responsible for groundbreaking work in genres that included ambient, dub and world music. Pete Namlook was recognised as a pioneering figure in the ambient techno scene, having founded the label FAX +49-69/450464 in his native Frankfurt in 1992.
'Outland' became a fusion of their individual musical sensibilities that resulted in a unique set of releases. At the heart of the series is an exploration of sound as a vehicle for emotion and contemplation, with Laswell's signature basslines and experimental soundscapes interweaving seamlessly with Namlook's ethereal textures and intricate sonic layering. Each album is characterised by a sense of expansiveness, taking listeners on a voyage through rarely charted sonic dimensions. All have the ability to evoke a wide range of emotions and have their own distinctive sonic palette, ranging from ambient tranquility to cosmic intensity.
'Outland' has endured as an influential touchstone, its impact felt not only in its captivating soundscapes but also in its invitation to engage in deep introspection and cosmic contemplation. With each album, the duo beckoned listeners to transcend the mundane and embark on a sonic voyage into the extraordinary, where sound becomes a conduit for spiritual and artistic expression.
The lavish matte-finish boxset opens to the 5 "Outland" albums in separate matte sleeves, with all-new designs, and all audio completely remastered. This box also contains a new addition to the OUTLAND series - an album of dense, bass space drone by Bill Laswell, entitled "Blackland". The boxset also contains an exclusive card with an essay about the project written by BIll Laswell, July 2023. |

A carefully curated selection of the crucial compilation tracks from Horror Electronics / Post-Industrial project BURIAL HEX, gathering and remastering them together, striving to create a resonance between disparate sources, forming an extraordinary new experience.
After nearly 20 years of activity from this restless project, many Burial Hex compilation tracks have been released, often of a very unique and high quality as Clay Ruby seemed to enjoy taking compilation submission requests as an opportunity to offer new perspectives on their already bizarre and eclectic work.
Many of the tracks were from cassettes, vinyl, or digital-only releases for labels such as Brave Mysteries, Aurora Borealis, Clan Destine, Small Doses, and Buh, appearing here on CD for the first time - or in the case of 'Pentitential March', never-before released. Clay Ruby has remixed each track, in some cases re-envisioning them specifically to live together coherently in this incarnation, making this collection more like a new studio album rather than another anthology compilation.
Revelling in the intimate, feral surrealism that we have come to know without parallel from this intoxicating project, "In Hiding" is an excellent view into the romantic Promethean theater of Burial Hex, whether for the neophyte or the adept.

"Continuous Hole" melds improvisation and musique concrète composition into a uniquely sweaty document of labour-intensive rhythm. A finger puzzle of reconciled opposites: lockstep structure, constant flux.
Relentlessly variable source material is relegated to precisely timed gated forms and patterns. Without using any sampling or MIDI sequencing, rhythmic cuts are constructed entirely from volcanic, gnarled abstraction, eschewing typical genre elements.
Raw yet precise, from mayhem to menace, this is a album of strong contrasts from two American artists discovering common ground in the joy of frenzied cutting.

Following two groundbreaking albums ('Reproduction' and 'Travelogue'), the original line-up of Sheffield-based The Human League split in half in late 1980. The two primary musicians in the group, Martyn Ware and Ian Craig Marsh, formed a new production company - the British Electric Foundation (B.E.F.). The artists they were to produce would include Heaven 17, their own new band formed with vocalist Glenn Gregory.
This music was among the first recorded by Martyn and Ian directly after their departure from The Human League.

"MUSICAL OFFERING" demonstrates a 'musical' machine unlike any other and has long fascinated cutting edge, modern electronic composers, notably COIL and THE ANTI GROUP COMMUNICATIONS (TAGC) / CLOCK DVA, that have both released recordings utilising the ANS.

The first Sleep Research Facility release since 2012's "Stealth" (Cold Spring). Inspired by the deep sea ocean floor, the Canadian-based composer explores notions of awareness and perception in the sub/unconscious listener. The material was created specifically for this release.
Taking inspiration from the beautiful, but often harsh landscapes and environments of his home on Anglesey, North Wales, Llyn Y Cwn has built on the nautical theme of "Du Y Moroedd" (Cold Spring). These tracks are based on field recordings relating to the ocean, and could be seen as a companion piece to the album.

French Ritual Dark Ambient entity Dapalis Sepolcri brings you 30 meters under the Parisian soils, into the forbidden catacombs. Smell of soil, millennium rocks, black water, long corridors and ossuaries. A long walk into absolute darkness and deafening silence... "The second age of Dapalis begins in 2019. On the personal front, I'm back in the surroundings of Paris and get introduced to its catacombs by a friend - I mean the actual catacombs, the forbidden ones; not that touristic attraction dressed up as a museum that many exploit in the process of malicious self-promotion. This topic makes me unreasonably loquacious; I'll get straight to the point: absolute darkness, a deafening silence, furnished rooms and of course piles of actual human bones. I'll leave up to your imagination the details of what a 24-hour excursion across this peculiar universe might turn out to be. This all had a tremendous impact on me as a person, and furthermore on Dapalis. This is the context that gave birth to "Kisiga", an album entirely devoted to one ossuary that I ornamented myself: La Licorne". Digipak. |

Still 30 metres under the Parisian soil, this time it's from the sky that we follow the corridors of the forbidden catacombs; from one room to another, through stale water, until we reach our final destination: La Licorne. There only candle lights split the darkness, the smell of ossuaries has never been so present. "Now close your eyes and look: you're 30 metres underground, you've been walking for 15 straight hours in full blindness and deafness, crawling inside fissures or into water, without eating nor sleeping, you've absorbed nothing but alcohol, you're dirty and in an altered state - all this only to reach a two-century old ossuary where people who came before you made constructions out of bones, some of which are hanging over your head. You turn off your flash-light and your music. You light up candles to illuminate the room. And you eventually sit down within the sacred silence. This is what Dapalis Sepolcri is describing". The reissue of a 1997 cassette released on Richard Ramirez's Deadline Recordings label. What was originally intended as a split release between Richard Ramirez (Black Leather Jesus, Werewolf Jerusalem) and Marco Corbelli (Atrax Morgue, Mörder Machine) evolved into a collaboration. The long out of print tape was released in a limited quantity of just 35 copies. In 2020 (23 years after his first release), at the suggestion of Richard making this two-decade old noisy masterpiece available again, four tracks were fully remastered and given a new life on a limited LP edition by 4iB Records. Now in 2023, OEC reissues this Power Electronics / Old School Industrial-Noise masterpiece onto CD for the first time, with the addition of some extra rare tracks. New album from UK Power Electronics unit S.T.A.B. Electronics. "Funerals" was recorded Sporadically between 2020 and 2023... Sometimes in fugue states of illness at various locations in the UK. Dedicated to the memory of J. Starkey and to the dead and dying everywhere. VOS OMNES MORITURI! WHAT WE ARE NOW, YOU WILL BECOME! Originally started as a tribute to Marco Corbelli after this death, the themes are based solely on paranoia, deep depression, sexual anxiety, male and female perversion, dealing with problems of inner self, and suicide.  SHOCKCITY / THE GREY WOLVES - 'Blood & Sand (Relaunched)' CD (Old Europa Cafe) - £12
Presented for the first time here is a completely re-mixed stereo version of the original 1990 tape release from two UK Industrial units - Shockcity and The Grey Wolves - curated by "Mel H / Head in a Haunted Hat". Two long tracks bringing back memories of what the then-raging Gulf War was like: burning oil wells, helicopters, long lines of burning vehicles, masks to protect from smoke and sand, air bombings, operation desert storm. Do not expect simple noise - this album contains extreme electronics, mixed with dark ambient rumblings, the sound of armoured helicopters and military transmissions. Digipak with new artwork. |
 STRATVM TERROR - 'Love Me Tender Or I Will Cause Pain' CD (Old Europa Cafe) - £13
Rumour said there would be no more albums and that the Stratvm Terror project was dead.. but no, they had just gone underground. Returning after 15 years with their new assault, the album is filled with seven oppressive and depressive weird obscurities to ease or cause you pain, depending on your inclinations. Massive layers of corrosive death industrial darkness with occasional injections of ominous noise sounds and claustrophobic vocals makes this an utterly end-of-life experience. The Swedish duo consisting of doom metal guru Tobias Larsson (Ocean Chief) and dark ambient master Peter Andersson (Raison D'être) began in 1993 and released a great number of albums in the late 90's / early 00's, taking a long break around 2008. With "Love Me Tender Or I Will Cause Pain", the project celebrates their 30-year anniversary with no happiness, only sweet pain. Mastering and layout by Peter Andersson.  THE GREY WOLVES / WERTHAM / SURVIVAL INSTINCT - 'Ramraiding Thee Abyss' CD (Old Europa Cafe) - £13
Reissue of the 2013 LP (Old Europa Cafe), including the 4 tracks of the very limited cassette which was part of a special edition. "Ramraiding Thee Abyss" features both collaborations between the three units as well as standalone tracks. The result of a 15-year long alliance turned into aural assault, blending the three projects' different styles into a celebration of the chaos, the confusion and the uncertainty, we witness on a daily basis in this ever-changing world. Prime movers of the UK Industrial scene, THE GREY WOLVES bring their own unique style, made of strongly-crafted noise patterns united with fierce vocal oriented power electronics. Italo-hardcore electronics act WERTHAM (Marco Deplano, also of Caligula031) goes back to the violent streets of its debut CD, alternating mid/low-end pulsing analogue waves to multi-layered harsher sounds, with heavy use of samples and tortured vocals. US deathrock pioneers Mephisto Walz were formed in 1986 by Barry Galvin (Bari-Bari) and John Schuman (Johann), following their departure from CHRISTIAN DEATH, which Bari-Bari had joined as bass guitarist while Rozz Williams was still vocalist. In 1988 Bari-Bari started working on new tracks with Steven Grey. David Hermon (bass), Mondo (vox) and Nariki Shimooka (guitar) completed the line-up. "Rarities 1989" is a selection of songs from their first EP, some of Bari-Bari's Christian Death material, plus some unreleased songs / versions, recorded live in the studio between 1988-1989 and remastered in 2018. "Pulse Demon" is probably the most iconic, most representative and best known album in the Japanoise scene and MERZBOW's discography. This is the edge of music and sound, here you enter a new dimension made of powerful noise, using the EMS synthesizer. Recorded in 1995 and first released in 1996 on the US label Relapse, and further reissued on different formats. However, this is first time in which album has been completely remastered by Masami Akita for the CD format, all from the original DAT tapes. An important addition here is an exclusive, *previously-unreleased* bonus track taken from the Pulse Demon recording session DATs.  ROZZ WILLIAMS & GITANE DEMONE - 'Dream Home Heartache' CD (Dark Vinyl) - £12
Limited repress of this classic album from 1995. Deleted for more than 10 years, now re-released in the re-mastered version of 2002, with one bonus track "Manic Depression II"), previously available on vinyl only. Considered to be one of the founding forefathers of the Gothic Movement Rozz Williams had in fact made a wide variety of stylistic musical moves throughout his impressive career until he died in 1998. Emerging from the wreckage of Christian Death, he went on to form industrial pioneers Premature Ejaculation and and the more conventionally gothic Shadow Project. Gitane Demone joined Christian Death from 1983-1989. "Dream Home Heartache" is by far the most impressive work by Gitane Demone and Rozz Williams. Feeling that their past work bound them in a gothic straight-jacket, the duo felt the need to expand. The result was "Dream Home Heartache", a breathtaking album with melancholic ballads, piano and a very smooth, jazzy atmosphere. Ltd x 500 copies. |

 NURSE WITH WOUND - 'Brained By Falling Masonry / Cooloorta Moon' Picture Disc LP (United Dirter) - £27
It could be argued that "Brained By Falling Masonry" and "Cooloorta Moon" are the definitive NWW E.Ps. Both classic and timeless fan favourites, the EPs marked a distinctive change in the NWW sound. "Brained..." from 1984 showcases NWW at their mid 80's finest; the relentless churning and uncompromising music is complimented by the eccentric mania of JG Thirlwell's (FOETUS) vocals. 'A Short Dip In The Glory Hole' takes us into the murky depths of a David Lynch-influenced nightmare; a lysergic unhinged movie for the ears, which greatly influenced the Peter Strickland film Berberian Sound Studio. "Cooloorta Moon" from 1989 takes us in a whimsical direction and further highlights the boundless originality and evolution of NWW, utilising more traditional instrumentation and bordering on the verge of song structures coming to the fore. Both EPs appear here for the first time together on one single album, along with the 2010 track, 'Sarah's Beloved Aunt', perfectly closing this collection. Lovingly remastered by Andrew Liles. Again, this arrives in a beautiful die-cut sleeve with Babs Santini artwork. |
 CONTROLLED BLEEDING - 'Blistered Bags Of Fodder Swaying' 10 x CD Set (Artoffact Records) - £46
A hugely-impressive 10-CD set presented in a vinyl-sized, 24-pp bound book, including artwork reproductions and an essay by Paul Lemos. The period between 1985 and 1988 was the most productive in the long history of Controlled Bleeding. No fewer than 13 albums and three split works were released in this short time frame. Founder Paul Lemos, along with long-time members Joe Papa and Chris Moriarty produced material relentlessly over this period, experimenting with noise, industrial, tribal sounds, goth, ethereal, and ambient music. In hindsight, this furious output set the stage for Controlled Bleeding's more famous Wax Trax works, but the material itself found its way to every corner of the experimental world, and it influenced everyone.
This 10-CD collection, much of which has been out of print for decades, starts with the tape-only "Death In The Cameroon", and includes seven more Controlled Bleeding albums, including "Headcrack", which has never been released on CD. Also included are two Controlled Bleeding off-shoots: the industrial one-off project The Art Barbeque (1985), and the Lemos / Papa collaboration "Music For Stolen Icon" (1986). The lavish set includes large-size reproductions of the front and back covers of each release, as well as a longform essay by Paul Lemos. All material has been remastered and restored.  DIRK SERRIES & STEFANO GENTILE - 'The Disintegration Of Silence' CD + Art Book (13 / Silentes) - £18
Stefano Gentile (Maribor, Under The Snow) and Dirk Serries (Vidna Obmana, Fear Falls Burning, Continuum) met almost 30 years ago when Stefano's Amplexus label released Vidna Obmana's seminal classic "The Transcending Quest". Fast forward 20 years later, after the ending of Dirk Serries’ critically acclaimed Vidna Obmana project, Stefano and Dirk, returning to his trademark ambient under his own name, released "The Devastation Chant" (2019), a limited 8" lathe cut and a 10" vinyl on Gentile's new label Silentes/13. Dirk's new album, "The Disintegration Of Silence", partially inspired by the melancholic collage artwork of Stefano Gentile, plays with the sounds with which he has been recognized and appreciated worldwide for almost four decades, while (so typical for Dirk's ongoing knack for adventure) expanding the comfort of his ambience with alienating analogue and real-time treatments. An album that has been performed solely on electric guitar in conjunction with plenty of pedal effects and absolutely no computers. A breathtaking work of melancholy and introspection.  COLIN POTTER - 'Ago' LP (B.F.E. Records) - £18
Six hypnotic tracks from the archive of rarites of Colin Potter (Monos, Nurse With Wound, Fovea Hex), here on vinyl for the first time, perfect to play really loud.
An original and particular approach to rhythmic electronics, reminiscent of contemporaneous industrial dance / new beat / EBM / proto-techno. These six pieces were recorded between the late 80s & mid-90s at IC Studio, which was then located in Tollerton, North Yorkshire. "I wanted to make some tracks which were much more rhythmic. By then the studio was a 16-track and I had acquired more equipment for making sounds and changing sounds. There was an Akai S950 sampler, an Emulator II, Roland TR727 and Yamaha RX11 digital drum machines, a Roland Juno 60, and some new effects processors. I even, briefly, used an Atari for MIDI sequencing, but using a computer in the studio felt a bit weird in those days. Ironic really, given the situation now. There were a lot of new methods to learn and the tracks on this album were the result of some of these experiments, during which I also found ways of integrating the old analogue synths with the newer machines. Mixing was still done hands-on, in real-time, with alternative and often radically different takes being made of the same multi-track. Very different to the way things are done now".  ATRAX MORGUE - 'Disconnected' CD (Death In Venice Productions) - £12.50
First released by Sin Organisation as a CDR in 1998 (Ltd x 226), "Disconnected" was subsequently reissued by DIVP on tape in 2021 (Ltd x 50) and now finally gets a CD-proper release in 2023. Not so much in-your-face Power Electronics, "Disconnected" was heavy Death Industrial / deviant rhythmic electronics, embodying Corbelli's psychotic thoughts into a living nightmare. "Marco Corbelli, a.k.a. Atrax Morgue, has something magical. So far, I haven't been able to put my finger on it, but it is the minimalist approach to the sounds and the incredible spookiness of those haunted vocals. The sounds in his compositions - not all, but definitely on this release - are pure synthesized melodic sequences. No rhythms, yet rhythmic, no distortion, yet distorted, and the purity is like they're straight from a machine. You hear the sound waves as they should be. The vocal procession is different: Distorted yet audible, chorus, delay and probably an overdrive. Lyrics that Brainbombs and Brighter Death Now would be proud of... this is one for the books.  DAISUKE SUZUKI & ANDREW CHALK - 'Drifting' CD (Siren Records) - £14.50
This 1996 private recording was the very first collaboration between Andrew Chalk (Mirror, Ora, Ferial Confine) and Daisuke Suzuki, and has
remained unsurfaced until now. In early 1996 Daisuke sent Andrew
a DAT tape which included some unedited pieces that he recorded with found objects in his garden. Those fragments of recordings inspired Andrew to make a spontaneous recording and he made a live mix directly to cassette recorder with his instinct and archaic vision. "Drifting" is a kind of archaic low-fi recording, but it has great atmosphere and perfect unison in texture. "Drifting" was also a prelude to their long-term collaborations and the beginning of the change of direction in Andrew's approach to music. Mastered by engineering maestro Denis Blackham in 2023 to give the production a new lease of life. Ltd x 300 copies in a glossy card sleeve. |
 JARL - 'Isolation Colours' CD (Zoharum) - £11.50
The new Jarl album, "Isolation Colours", consists of seven tracks, named as Circle 1-7, each of represents a colour... and what sense and mood that colour can bring: Grey-Scale one, Blue Grey (Livid), Blue, Black, White, Grey Scale - Two, and also Blindness in between with no colours. Focusing on isolation, the album is painted by the sounds from analogue synthesizers. As often with his work, Swedish musician Eric Jarl (IRM, ex-SKIN AREA) has created a sort of a psychedelic sound which is hypnotic, cosmic, melodic, intense but also restrained and withdrawn with different colour cords. Isolation, sadness, anger, fear, gloom, misery, separation but also innocence, inspiration and calmness are topics the colours can represent, but it's also up to the listener to decide. Six colour scales separated from each other yet somehow connected with previous albums like "Turbulence", "Amygdala", "Hypnosis", and "Misophonia". Ltd x 300 copies in a 6-panel digipak. |
