Qorakitobchi is the experimental "Ethnoise" project of Anvar Kalandarov, one of the founders of the new Uzbek experimental scene. Based in the heart of Tashkent, Qorakitobchi started making noise back in the early 2000's, at the time of the birth of the musical underground. Sparking contemplation and inspiration, his music is not just about the sounds; it is a journey through time, transporting listeners to the world of Uzbekistan's occult and spiritual heritage, enriched with innovation.
Kalandarov takes traditional Uzbek folk as the basis for his compositions, often recorded on a dictaphone while travelling around the country. Overheard sighs of dutar and gidzhak interspersed with the hum of dozens of voices at bazaars and festivities create a unique sound ornament to which Anvar gives an emotional noise colouring through frequency overloads, crackle and murmur of electronic devices. However, Qorakitobchi's music is not only about noise, it also features somnambulistic drones and desolate, hissing ambient, referring to the dialectics of the unconscious.
A powerful and unique experience, akin to navigating a monolithic wall of sound amidst the captivating mystique of Central Asia.
