• JOHN CAGE • CHRISTIAN WOLFF - 'John Cage • Christian Wolff' LP

A reissue of John Cage and Christian Wolff's self-titled album, originally released in 1963 on Times Records. This album was an early showcase of both 20th century composers' experiments, and is highly regarded as some of their finest work. Cage's piece, which spans the whole of the first side, was originally composed in 1960, and like many of his pieces, would never be performed the same way twice. "...an unstable tract of fractious small sounds gathered from recordings of various objects pushed, scraped and jabbed on a turntable’s cartridge... Cartridge Music was a bold attempt at opening the story of live electronic music performance, and while it’s maybe fair to say that it seems totally primitive by today’s standards, there's still a haphazard klang and magick to the work which still resonates today." (Boomkat). Wolff's side, while less extreme, is equally innovative, and a window into his particular pointillist vision of music. In all, it is a truly groundbreaking piece of 20th century music.
