Abstract free jazz, ancient exotica and hard bop from Sun Ra, featuring Arkestra mainstays like Pat Patrick, John Gilmore and Julian Priester. Recorded in 1956, and originally released in 1957 (the first full-length release on El Saturn Records), this material is some of Sun Ra's earliest, and dates back to the years when the Arkestra was first beginning to make itself heard in Chicago. These prime early tracks (some of which only appear on this album) show that Sun Ra's musical voice and vision were starting to propel him away from the jazz mainstream, utilizing electric piano, Wurlitzer, Space Gong, and exotic percussion.
"Crashing cymbals herald a haunting theme established by Sun Ra, playing an electric piano, which draws the listener into a mysterious soundscape that haunts the imagination. Such exotic use of percussion and instrumental effects was way ahead of its time when the album Super-Sonic Jazz was first released in 1957".
