The classic, genre-defining 1993 album from LULL - the pioneering, isolationist dark ambient project of MICK HARRIS of SCORN, FRET, ex-NAPALM DEATH - is a dark journey through the Stygian netherworlds of Hell. The listener is left with the impression of a final escape into reality; a return upon waking, with only wispy trace memories and the heavy rush of blood-pumping fear as a keepsake.

With this album, we are plunged back into a dark pit of noise - all escape barred, all hope dashed. The nightmare continues, the journey through underworlds descends deeper. These are soundtracks for Nightmares. Despite there being just three tracks on the album, it lasts just shy of 75 minutes.

Originally released on Sentrax (the label of the late John Everall / Tactile), the CD suffered the 'disc rot' fate of many PDO pressings from 1988-1993, rendering most of that initial run unplayable.

Mixed by Justin K Broadrick (GODFLESH). Remastered by Martin Bowes (The Cage Studios) from the original recordings supplied by Mick Harris.

Matt digipak with majestic artwork by Abby Helasdottir (Gydja).

MICK HARRIS ON LULL:

"I finally heard the way of recording, making profound sounds. Lull is purely something I can get lost in, as far as trying to create these imaginary spaces. And that’s what I always tried to do – to create. I'm a lover of sounds. I love collecting sounds. Playing with those sounds using various software until I created something new from that sound. Which for me end being what I call "a droner" or "a drift", I’d use those to create a piece of music, or a sound-scape. That's what I’m doing with Lull. Just trying to create soundscapes. And to this day, still, absolutely love doing that".

Track listing:

1. Downwards (16:39)
2. Journey Through Underworlds (11:58)
3. In The Distance (45:43)

REVIEWS:

"Lull doesn't go stretching and pitching down on us but delivers something constantly changing and drifting around. Oddly enough, here, too, there is something in the samples that a layman would describe as rhythm; I do. In many ways, this album from Lull is a much more experimental album than much of his later work, and because of its noisier character, it is also less dark ambient. Now, isolationist music [it] certainly is; it's atmospheric, experimental and not a commercial proposition because of its musical nature. I missed out on this in the early 1990s, so it's great to hear it, finally" (Vital Weekly).

"Lull's masterful, unparalleled, pioneering, dark and deeply immersive ambient/drone dreamworlds from 1993 produced by the legend Mick Harris (Fret, Scorn, Monrella, Quoit, Napalm Death)... Turn out the lights, close your eyes and Journey Through Underworlds" (Norman Records)
