NEW COLD SPRING RELEASES - MAY 2023 |
B.E.F. (post-HUMAN LEAGUE / pre-HEAVEN 17) - 'Music For Stowaways'
LP Electric Blue £23 - out now!

Second - and final - reissue of seminal early 1980's electronic recordings from the British Electric Foundation (B.E.F.), aka HEAVEN 17 / ex-THE HUMAN LEAGUE's Martyn Ware and Ian Craig Marsh, with Adi Newton (CLOCK DVA / THE FUTURE), and John Wilson (HEAVEN 17), originally a cassette-only release (1981).
• Ltd x 500 copies on 180g Electric Blue LP (Cold Spring only)
Also available: LP Black £23 | CD £12
Following two groundbreaking albums ('Reproduction' and 'Travelogue'), the original line-up of Sheffield-based The Human League split in half in late 1980. The two primary musicians in the group, Martyn Ware and Ian Craig Marsh, formed a new production company - the British Electric Foundation (B.E.F.) - and signed a deal with Virgin Records to write and produce up to six albums a year. The artists they were to produce would include Heaven 17, their own new band formed with vocalist Glenn Gregory.
B.E.F. would also release their own material, commencing with the music on this collection, which was issued in various permutations in 1981-82. Its initial release in March 1981 was a limited edition numbered eight song cassette entitled 'Music for Stowaways', with 'Stowaways' being a reference to the original name for the then-new Sony portable cassette player - later renamed the Walkman - of which B.E.F. were great fans. 'Music for Stowaways' was intended to be listened to on such a device. The cassette was followed by a seven song LP, 'Music For Listening To', which had a slightly different tracklisting, while other B.E.F. music was utilised for B-sides of early singles by Heaven 17.
This music was among the first recorded by Martyn and Ian directly after their departure from The Human League. Some tracks had evolved from other recordings they were working on at the time, such as 'Groove Thang' - an instrumental version of the debut single by Heaven 17 - and 'The Old At Rest', which derived from a version of 'Wichita Lineman' by Jimmy Webb, their very first recording with Glenn that would subsequently appear on B.E.F.'s 'Music of Quality and Distinction, Volume One' covers album in 1982.
Supporting musicians on 'Music For Stowaways' included Adi Newton of Clock DVA (who had been a member of The Future with Martyn and Ian pre-Human League) on the track 'Uptown Apocalyse', with John Wilson (who provided incredible guitar and bass for Heaven 17) appearing on 'Groove Thang'.
The innovative sounds heard on 'Music For Stowaways' were an inspiration to many aspiring electronic artists. In 2015, Uncut magazine included it in a list of the '50 Greatest Lost Albums of All Time'.

VA 'Музыкальное Приношение' (Musical Offering) - out 26th May | CD £9

Available on CD for the first time, Soviet composers perform their works on the legendary ANS synthesizer.
Recorded in 1971, "MUSICAL OFFERING" is 6 tracks (42 mins) of experiments on the unique machine by: Eduard Artemiev (2 tracks), Oleg Buloshkin, Sofia Gubaidulina, Edison Denisov, and Alfred Schnittke.
"MUSICAL OFFERING" demonstrates a 'musical' machine unlike any other and has long fascinated cutting edge, modern electronic composers, notably COIL and THE ANTI GROUP COMMUNICATIONS (TAGC) / CLOCK DVA, that have both released recordings utilising the ANS.
Try to imagine a score sounding by itself without a conductor; an orchestra without musical instruments. This magic is possible by using the musical ANS synthesizer. Created by Soviet scientist Evgeny Murzin over the course of 20 years, ANS is an instrument with which a composer can not only create but also draw their music without notes. You can see the twinkling of different lamps, the rotation of grooved glass discs... The drawings on the glass are 'sounding notes'. To listen to the drawn picture, press the button and a wonderful transformation will begin.
Murzin dedicated his photoelectronic apparatus to Alexander Nikolayevich Scriabin (ANS), the creator of the 'Poem of Ecstasy', and a famous explorer of synesthesia.
These tracks have only ever been available on an LP pressed by the state-run Soviet Union label Melodiya over 30 years ago. Soviet music lovers will already know recordings made on ANS from Tarkovsky's films Solaris, The Mirror, and Stalker, Konchalovsky's film Siberiade, and others.
Presented in a digipak with the new artwork by Abby Helasdottir (who also created the compelling promo video), complimenting the ANS process perfectly.

The ultimate deep listening experience from two masters of dark ambient. A slow descent into the blackened watery abyss, where light cannot reach.
The first Sleep Research Facility release since 2012's "Stealth" (Cold Spring). Inspired by the deep sea ocean floor, the Canadian-based composer explores notions of awareness and perception in the sub/unconscious listener. The material was created specifically for this release.
Taking inspiration from the beautiful, but often harsh landscapes and environments of his home on Anglesey, North Wales, Llyn Y Cwn has built on the nautical theme of "Du Y Moroedd" (Cold Spring). These tracks are based on field recordings relating to the ocean, and could be seen as a companion piece to the album.
Ltd LP on audiophile black vinyl. CD in mini-LP sleeve, replicating LP design. Features a separate front cover design with individual art for each side.

The new album from 400 LONELY THINGS, produced by WILLIAM BASINSKI, is a dark ambient, sample-based séance to the Banning Mill - a real-life decaying "mansion" and haven for artists, freaks and misfits in the backwoods of the American Deep South in the 1970s-1990s - and an extraordinary piece of art that lived there.
An archaeological excursion in found sound - wandering through the art and memory of a real place, "Mother Moon" is an origin story for 400 Lonely Things. An imaginary soundtrack to the many years of solitude Richard Scott Hill's Minotauress spent hanging in the musty, secret winding halls of Banning Mill.
Melancholic instrumentals with weathered sampling at its core.
Presented in a 6-panel spot-varnished digipak.

The first new album in 14 years from LULL - the pioneering, isolationist dark ambient project of MICK HARRIS (SCORN, FRET, ex-NAPALM DEATH).
"I finally heard the way of recording, making profound sounds. Lull is purely something I can get lost in, as far as trying to create these imaginary spaces.
LULL is quite natural for me. It's an extension of me. Drifting. Just going to darkness. Into a space. LULL is drifting and droning, discovering more and more what can be done with sound. These soundscapes hugely appeal to me".

A history lesson, recorded in autumn 1989. Unavailable for over 20 years in any format, "Malfeitor" is the classic album from Swedish Black Industrial act Maschinenzimmer 412.
This is evil incarnate, staring into the abyss. With a more lyrical approach than the predecessor "Macht Durch Stimme", "Malfeitor" explores themes of death, with an unequivocal dystopian outlook.
Cavernous heavy industrial, primitive machine rhythms, and cold metallic loops created on old synths with very little post-production. Originally released on LP in 1989 (CMI) this monumental album is now available for the first time since 2001. Also available on digital for the first time ever!
Mastered from the original 4-track tapes.
Matt-laminate digipak with new artwork.

The third album from the Australian post-industrial outfit is a merciless and visceral assault on the senses. An uncompromising force of harsh post-industrial music created with a wide variety of metals, raw materials, metal grates, a rusted hoist, cement cylinders, field recordings, hammering of various decrepit objects, broken amplifiers, various synthesizers, and the infamous metal coil. Much of the creation and lyrical conceptualisation of the record has been stylised and presented using William S. Burroughs' cut-up method.
Mastering: James Plotkin. Art: Nullvoid (T. Ekelund | Trepaneringsritualen).

AIMA LICHTBLAU - 'Carmina In Spiritum A • Ω' CD (Slaughter In Art) - £12
A deep and powerful voice from invisible and ancient worlds, destined to cross the elements, the depth of the most abysmal and ethereal things. AimA is founder of the neoclassical band Les Jumeaux Discordants and member of Caverna delle Rose, Allerseelen and iNsCissorS. Her instrument is overtone harp, which allows her to build melodies, harmonizing polyphonic and a cappella chants. "Carmina in Spiritum A • Ω is the result of a period particularly inspired by precise and profound astral conjunctions that determined the compositions in a praxis that I would dare to define mystical. The cosmic and absolute dimension of the texts, which goes to the limit of invocation to self-annihilation, consists of a series of carmina (chants, hymns) dedicated to the elements or spirits that hold the main inner forces, holding the spirit and preserving it in its strength and integritas". Composed in Italian, it has been translated into Latin, in order to complete the work through music and singing. Guests: Evor Ameisie (Camerata Mediolanense), and Marco Milanesio (Blind Cave Salamander). Ltd x 300 copies in a digipak with booklet. |
ANDREW ANDERSON - 'Vagrancies' CD (Elevator Bath) - £11.50
On "Vagrancies" mangled tapes, unidentifiable instruments, electronic wizardry, and wide-ranging found sounds / field recordings join forces to create a kind of audio journal of paranormal phenomena.
The various components utilized for "Vagrancies" may seem somewhat familiar to the phonographically inclined, but of course the devil is in the detail, and the ghost is in the machine. Andrew Anderson's deft attention to the finer points of the audio spectrum ensure that his voice is uniquely potent. His precisely articulated renderings of nature give way to abstracted, blown-out howls of roaming phantoms, their distant calls lingering well beyond the strictly audial. Grounded, recognizable sounds blend, clash, and blend again with unearthly fragments, suggesting the liminal spaces between movements. This album offers a sonic depiction of those barely perceptible footprints left by unseen spectres. They may shuffle about amid restless leaves and wind-chimes before moving on to the next haunting, but the places where those feet tread retain the memories of their presence, forever marked by their vicissitudes and vagrancies.
Ltd x 150 copies in a 6-panel spot-varnished digipak featuring Anderson's beautiful photography. |
BOB BELLERUE - 'Radioactive Desire' 2 x CD (Elevator Bath) - £14.50
Recorded on the hottest days in the longest year, "Radioactive Desire" is a work for free chamber music in feedback environments. Simple improvisational structures gave focus to the exquisite playing of the musicians, and the performers were physically located within speakers of varying sizes to create multidimensional feedback systems.
It is a project borne of feedback between speakers and instruments, but the context in which it came to fruition demonstrated the deep interconnections between people and systems of collaboration. The project was a visceral way to activate musical signals with the push and pull of chthonic energy. Working with these sounds, processes, and ideas provided substance and process for me to work through these difficult times. A group of deep shredders in the avant-garde improvised extended cosmic free music worlds, the musicians began with the handwritten notes by New York's Bob Bellerue that provided the scant written music, creating new forms of music in real time. "The music is intense on every level, and there is a great underlying tension in these pieces, a mysterious force if you will" (Vital Weekly). Ltd x 300 copies in a stunning 8-panel double-digipak, with multifold insert including photos and liner notes. |
HATTIFNATTAR - 'Watcher Of The Skies' CD (Satatuhatta) - £11.50
The new album from French noise artist Hattifnattar (aka Rémi Dazet, of Violent Shogun, Mold etc) created from field recordings, Serge modular synths, tape loops, and a broken mixer. A post-harsh noise work that uses field recordings from Bordeaux, France and deserted places all over Iceland as base material, resulting in a strangely harsh work. "Imagine yourself in a distant cabin, surrounded by cold wilderness. Power lines are splitting the landscapes like electronic highways, loudly buzzing and crackling in the air. Soon a blizzard is roaming outside, freezing winds hammering the window shields and clattering the loose roofing. Cold trying to push its way through narrow openings of the wall into the warmth of the cabin. A snow storm is blocking the view from the window, starting to slowly resemble static noise from the analogue TV. The kettle is whistling for boiling water but the sound begins shifting to unusual frequencies. Without open sky and fixed stars to locate, it feels like the universe is collapsing inside a cabin. Isolation. Slowly everything natural is beginning to seem unnatural. Organic sounds are twisting, voices mangling out of shape, textures frying, nothing seems to be what it is. Electromagnetic interference hum from the radio transmitter is the only grounding factor to reality. Everything is hidden in details". 6-panel digipak. |
MATT SHOEMAKER - 'Brengenging Sala' CD (Elevator Bath) - £11.50
Previously unreleased in any form, the 7 tracks and 73 minutes comprising "Brengenging Sala" offer a true overview of the late Matt Shoemaker's genius as a master sculptor of potent and affecting sound art. His trademark haptic tones and scraping feedback build tension; his elegant electronics provide guidance; and his scrupulously curated field recordings articulate the sense of place requisite for full immersion in this sound world. Created for use in an unreleased film about his beloved Solo (Surakarta in Central Java, Indonesia), "Brengenging Sala" stands on its own as a fully realised work. These recordings were expertly sequenced, mixed, and mastered by Shoemaker himself in 2015, well before his untimely passing in 2017, but have remained unpublished until now. Powerful and sophisticated, yet melodic and profoundly sentimental, it is a complex and moving tribute to his favourite city; one as multifaceted as the place itself.
Ltd x 300 copies in a 6-panel spot-varnished digipak featuring Shoemaker's haunting photography, showcasing many dimensions of Solo: the chaotic beauty of the city, the wide open serenity of the coastal cliffs, the beguiling mystery of the forests and caves. |
MAX JULIAN EASTMAN - 'Zabriskie / Manor' 3" CD (Satatuhatta) - £8.50
"Zabriskie / Manor" is the follow up release to the excellent "Model Of Malehood" released last year on Tribe Tapes, a label run by artist himself. This material was originally recorded to C90 tape and only a handful of copies were passed around. Those familiar with music of Max Julian Eastman know the dream-like atmosphere that it holds within. It's like a mixture of an old beaten copy of an action movie VHS and the hazy setting of an 80's Playboy photo shoot; rumble and comfort combined. The material was revisited for this 3" CD resulting in a compact and a very unique release which maintains the properties of original medium. Scrap metal, turntables and cassette sources were probably harmed during the recording process. 3" CD in a blue plastic mini-CD snap case with insert.

MERZBOW - 'CATalysis' CD (Elevator Bath) - £12.50
"CATalysis" is the brand new album from Japanoise master Merzbow. Nearly 70 minutes of highly varied but uniformly pummeling noise from one of the Greatest Of All Time. This epic collection of entirely new material is one for the ages, comprising so much of what longtime listeners have come to admire about the living legend's utterly distinctive body of work: junk electronics, screaming feedback, random beeps and blasts, occasional jagged rhythms, and, above all, dense layers of ever-changing abstractions ranging from atmospheric passages to all-out audio assault. Ltd x 300 copies in a 6-panel spot-varnished digipak with photography of urban feral cats by Holly Doyel. |
NATALIA BEYLIS & EIMEAR REIDY - 'She Came Through the Window to Stand by the Door' LP Coloured (Nyahh Records) - £26
Following on from their critically acclaimed first release "Whose Woods These Are", the second album by cellist Eimear Reidy and keys player Natalia Beylis was recorded at St Georges Church, Carrick On Shannon, Leitrim on a cold early January with a William Telford Organ. Built in 1846, it is reputed to be the second oldest organ in Ireland.
'Pour Upon The Sky' is a story told by the two voices of cello and organ. Influenced by the rhetorical style of 18th century vocal music, the cello and organ are both intertwined and interdependent, playing the bass line and harmonies together and providing a foundation for the rest of the ensemble while soloists come in and out.
'The Whistling Dust' is a slow steady study of the microscopic flutters of the organs and the organ. The heart of the Telford rattles and breathes as the cello dances in and out. When Natalia and Eimear began working on these pieces in the cold January, the Telford, which seemed like it had been sitting quietly for quite some time, shook and trembled as its insides were awoken. 'The Whistling Dust' speaks to the moment when the instrument moved alive, every opened stop knob of the pipes bringing the feel of the microsounds of the machine closer and closer as the cello offers utterances of encouragement. Their incredibly beautiful interactions - eerie, droning, archaic - bring locations into being, pulling blustery, craggy, landscapes out of your subconscious. Pressed onto recycled vinyl chips, meaning all records are a different colour. |
ONE LEG ONE EYE - '...And Take The Black Worm With Me' CD (Nyahh Records) - £12
As a founding member of Dublin experimental folk group LANKUM, Ian Lynch explores submerged leylines of music and song. His new solo project One Leg One Eye sees him taking a fresh approach to musical arrangement culminating in a sound that is more rooted in the raw aesthetics of second wave black metal than contemporary folk.
Over the course of a year, Lynch enjoyed the freedom of experimenting and exploring different paths of sound design without expectation or pressure. Seeking out interesting settings to record music and gather field recordings, the essence of which have seeped into the spirit of the music, Lynch explores rediscovered spaces in Dublin and familiar interior spaces. He frequently visited the abandoned warehouse where his father worked and sang with his shruti box, contented in his solitude. The result is a distinct and sometimes harrowing drone-folk atmosphere conjured throughout the album's five lengthy and enveloping compositions, with a beautiful, immersive sadness resonating throughout. Digipak. |
ONE LEG ONE EYE - '...And Take The Black Worm With Me' LP Coloured (Nyahh Records) - £26
Limited vinyl version of the above release. Pressed onto recycled vinyl chips, meaning all records are a different colour. |
PRIMITIVE WINGS - 'Morphosis' CD (Satatuhatta) - £11.50
The debut album of Primitive Wings, a new project by Jaakko Vanhala (also of Secret Apex, Zoät-Aon, I.Corax). "Morphosis" is a highly evocative noise album, bringing into mind vivid flashes of something primal, perhaps from the prehistoric past. At the same time it's very raw, but without being utterly harsh. Listening to the album, you can imagine insects digging their way through the forest floor, dragonflies propelling amongst the ferns in the twilight, reptiles roaming in the verdant undergrowth, and prehistoric roars rising amongst the tropical trees. But it's not a nature documentary; more like an atavistic memory, an intuitive transformation taking you inside an alien consciousness. Perhaps a vision of an event which happened under the same stars but billions of years ago. Something from the beginning, of growth, sentience and flesh, finding its expression in strange transformations. Features a collaborative track with Antti Litmanen (Arktau Eos). Digipak. |
RESIDUAL - 'The Forcing End' 3" CD Tin Boxset (Satatuhatta) - £11.50
This is the second release of Residual, nearly 1.5 years after their brilliant debut tape, "Retrograde Future" (also on Satatuhatta). During this time their sound has matured further with more attention to nuance. This 3" CD (20-mins) is bursting full of energy and has been filled with the highest caliber of electrifying junk-driven harsh noise. Recorded in Helsinki 2022. Mastered by Grant Richardson (Gnawed). Pro 3" CD (not CDR), presented in a double-height tin box with insert and silk screen-printed cloth patch. Because of Royal Mail size restrictions, this ships as 'Small Parcel', apologies to our overseas buyers - this is unfortunately out of our control. |
ROBERT TURMAN & TOM SMITH - 'Strip Ice Water To Listerine' CD (Nyahh Records) - £12
A collaboration by two of America's most legendary figures in the underground music scene, both active since the late 1970's. Tom Smith (To Live And Shave In L.A.) passed away in early 2022 due to a sudden illness, with these recordings being finished after his death. Robert Turman wanted to release them as a tribute to Tom.
"In March of 2020, early pandemic, Tom asked me "Wanna do a quick and dirty internet collab?". He had recently posted an extended track called 'Strip Ice Water To Listerine', and added "It's only six days old. A simple generative system. Why don't we rework it together? Tear it apart, add your bits, then I can sprinkle some magic dust atop the
rubble!" I said I'd see what I can do, but was in the middle of a big project, The Prevalence... Fast forward to January 2022, after receiving the sad news that Tom had died, I decided to go ahead with the project... By cutting up, looping, and sampling Tom's original track, I created a series of rhythmic backdrops for Tom's improvisations, an album's worth of material that I could not stop listening to, and this is the result. Unfortunately the rubble never got the magic dust but I think Tom would have liked it" (Robert Turman). 6-panel digisleeve with liner notes by Thurston Moore with art work by Karen Constance. |
SUSANA LÓPEZ - 'The Edge Of The Circle' CD (Elevator Bath) - £11.50
Susana López is an experimental composer, visual artist, and performer based in Murcia, Spain. She has a refined approach to audio exploration, predominantly utilising field recordings, electronically generated sounds, and layers of vocal harmonics. "The Edge Of The Circle" is an ominous affair, relying heavily on atmosphere in the creation of dense clouds of hypnotic, foreboding sound.
It portrays a kind of abstract narrative that comprises five concentric rings rather than chapters. The work suggests a tumultuous journey through an intense storm; a trek along a menacing footpath; a wilderness populated by wandering spirits; and finally, a majestic, enormous hall in which those spirits dwell.
A vividly expressive sound cycle redolent of mythic archetypes and rich symbolism, and a highly compelling piece of dark ambient artistry. Ltd x 200 copies in a 6-panel spot-varnished digipak featuring Susana López's mysterious artwork, inspired by a cosmological diagram of Ibn Arabi (1165-1240).

THE NEW BOYFRIENDS - '1 & 2' 2 x CD (Satatuhatta) - £15
The New Boyfriends is a collaboration of 'very harsh noise' between two well respected Finnish artists: Mogao and Aprapat. This is a 2CD reissue of the first two The New Boyfriends cassettes recorded during live sessions in Oulu and released in 2020 in tiny editions of 50 and 100 copies respectively. Harsh junk abuse and hot steam! "Unrelentingly clangy, crunchy, gritty. Very raw and harsh. Like being stuck inside a gearbox" (Ryan Daley). Double Mastered by Jaakko Vanhala. CD in a 6-panel digisleeve. |
TYHJÄ PÄÄ - 'Prolonged Troubles In Concentration And Memory' CD (Satatuhatta) - £11.50
Tyhjä Pää is noise artist from Northern Finland and is known for fierce live shows, a handful of tape and split releases from recent years, and also from being a long time organiser in the Oulu noise underground. "Prolonged Troubles In Concentration And Memory" is the first full length album by Tyhjä Pää and sets the standard of what Finnish noise is in 2023. The album is masterfully crafted, razor sharp and detailed cut-up junk noise, like a constant barrage of flying shrapnel, built up with a vision that reveals new layers after every bombardment. So crank up the volume and take cover. Digipak. |
VINCENT DALLAS & MOOZZHEAD - 'Controlled Chaos & Sound' CD & Cassette Boxset (Satatuhatta) - £15
Everyone who has been following noise scene in the past few years, are probably familiar with the names Vincent Dallas and Moozzhead, as well as their prolific output of high quality harsh noise. So, what do you get when you combine these two artists on the top of their game? MORE HARSH NOISE of course!
This is a collaboration, recorded live over few sessions in Belgium. Total harsh noise worship for lovers of full throttle sound havoc. 70 minutes of controlled chaos, split onto CD and C24 chrome tape. Ltd x 200 copies in a silkscreen-printed cardboard box, with two sided insert and two stickers. |
VIOLENT SHOGUN - 'Breath And Steam' CD (Satatuhatta) - £11.50
"Breath And Steam" is the latest CD album by Rémi Dazet, the mastermind behind Violent Shogun and other noisy experimental projects like Hattifnattar and Mold. Those projects stand on their own feet but Violent Shogun can be seen as his main project, and it's always exciting to see in which direction the sound progresses to next. Though the sound palette on "Breath And Steam" falls within the genres of harsh noise or industrial, the overall atmosphere is quite unique. Rémi has developed his tools further and uses them skillfully, scanning the depths of his own sonic ocean. This album is very focused - minimal and breathtaking at the same time and not least of all, it carries a strong message. Silkscreenprinted cardboard digisleeve with two sided insert. |
VARIOUS ARTISTS - 'Mixed Noise Soup Vol. 1' Cassette & Art Zine (Satatuhatta) - £13
An excellent new zine coming out of the Satatuhatta camp, with all tracks new and made specifically for this release. There are both old and new names in this compilation, highlighting the current state of Finnish noise. Scrap Furnace, Corral Shut and The New Boyfriends are in charge of handling scrap metal and various moving objects, while Moozzhead and Mogao bring the joyful approach of harsh pedal noise in the mix. Amek-Maj rumbles heavily with his textural lock picking and Tyhjä Pää dives head straight into realms of violent cut-up junkdrome. H.Ö.H. kneads the dough with his tangible tape loops and Umpio shows the noise skills that are matched by very few in this world. There are also two new projects with debut tracks to present. Slowly churning industrial haze by Resting Place and fast paced prehistoric reptile chase happening in the verdant undergrowth by Primitive Wings (Jaakko Vanhala). The C47 chrome cassette-only compilation comes with a 16-page A5 sized art zine, accompanied by track-by-track visual art made by artists involved. Already sold out from the label! |

MASAMI AKITA - 'Wattle' Picture Disc LP (Elevator Bath) - £20
A top-notch release from the great Masami Akita aka Merzbow. "Wattle" is a two-part composition featuring Akita's traditional fusion of unidentifiable metallic clanging, crushing feedback, jagged white noise, and various effects. It does not disappoint. There are no drums, no guitars, no vocals; just scorching electronic mayhem of the highest quality. The colourful images here are based on photographs shot and subtly manipulated by Masami Akita himself, who sends the following message: "Turkey is beautiful animal and do not eat them". Ltd x 270 copies on full colour picture disc, in a heavy PVC sleeve. ACT FAST! |

Founded by The New Blockaders' Rupenus brothers, Bladder Flask's debut (and in fact only) LP, originally issued by Orgel Fesper Music in 1981, is one of the most eclectic albums of the post-Industrial era. It is both challenging and perplexing... So, put down your puny instruments of normality and breathe in the frenzied fungal spores of Bladder Flask! The fact that Steven Stapleton of Nurse With Wound is a big fan of this album is testament to its greatness: "I love [the album]... what a great title, perhaps my favourite ever. I must have listened to the album so much in the '80s. I listened to it again recently and it was like welcoming an old friend". Personnel: Richard Rupenus, Philip Rupenus, Sean Breadin, John Mylotte, and Nigel Jacklin - variously members of The New Blockaders, Nihilist Assault Group, Masstishaddhu, Metgumbnerbone, Venereum Arvum, Sedayne, Sir Ashleigh Grove, Alien Brains and more. Audio Restoration & Mastering: Colin Potter (NWW, Ora, Monos). "Comparisons could be made to NWW's Merzbild Schwet: a mixture of Musique Concrete and instrumental collages, but more intense and compact than NWW" (Neumusik). Comes in a 6-panel digipak with three bonus CD-only tracks, one of which was intended to be released on United Dairies, while the other two were released as 7" by Anomalous Records / LP with slightly different cover art and insert. |
BJ NILSEN - 'Distant Brilliance' 10" (13 / Silentes) - £22
The very first 10" vinyl record from Swedish sound artist BJ Nilsen (Morthound, Hazard, Tape Decay) in a career spanning more than 20 years. "Distant Brilliance" contains two new 10-minute long musique concrete / ambient tracks, namely 'The Question' (with breathing by Sigtryggur Berg Sigmarsson of Stilluppsteypa), and 'The Answer', both composed especially for this release. Recorded at Odd Phasing and Echoes, Amsterdam, Netherlands. Ltd x 100 copies in a deluxe gatefold sleeve with images created by Stefano Gentile - the layers of abstraction and decay in the artwork were the catalyst for the music. Comes with hand-numbered printed vellum obi strip. |
SLF (NORDVARGR) - 'Vi Ska Resa Ett Eldens Tempel I Bromölla' CD (Old Europa Cafe) - £12
SLF (Svenska Likbrännings Föreningen) is NORDVARGR (MZ.412 / Pouppée Fabrikk / Folkstorm etc) and LINDELL. An (un)healthy dose of post-mortem industrial music, made in the traditional way. Mix equal parts bombastic orchestral mayhem, droning dark ambience and the sounds we all will hear at the end of our lives, and you have a tasty treat for all fans of the classic 90's Swedish Industrial sound. Bleak, cold and slow sonic landscapes fuelled by the mystery of the inevitable end. All cremation oven gas nozzles and door locks, freezer ambience, human bone vibrations, dissecting table acoustics and musical instruments by the duo. This CD version also contains a 26-minute bonus track made from the rotting remains of the debut tape (Cloister 2021). Ltd x 300 copies in a 6-panel digipak. |
HAR BELEX - 'Campo de Urnas' CD (Caustic Records) - £13
HAR BELEX - 'Campo de Urnas' LP Green (Caustic Records) - £22
The second full-length of the dark folk act Har Belex, which gives continuity to the melancholic and decadent sounds that consolidated the band within the Dark-folk and Neofolk scene with its first album.
The band exposes in its new songs the relationship of Humanity with itself and its environment, going through multiple registers: some bright and cinematic, others dense and dark. Using both melancholic guitar arpeggios and martial percussion rolls and all this extolled with beautiful arrangements of violin, guitars and electronics.
With these 10 new songs, Har Belex manages to turn everything dark that lives in them into beauty, emotion and passion.
As the intriguing cover suggests, up can be down and the sky can become a sea that floods the Urn Field. CD Ltd x 500 copies in an embossed 6-panel digipak with 12-page booklet / LP Ltd x 100 copies on 180gm green vinyl. |
THE DADAROTATOR - 'What Is Dadarotator' CD (Menstrualrecordings) - £11.50
Reissue of the one and only album from The Dadarotator (Paul Hurst). Lo-fi industrial noise / power electronics. Tracks 1 & 2 were originally published on tape in 1983 by Produktion, UK.
Track 3 was originally published on a rare 1983 cassette compilation on Aquilifer Sodality, Italy. Originally from Tasmania (Cannon) and Australia (Glover and Hurst), the trio formed Produktion when they moved to London in 1978. In London they opened Produktion Hair hairdress salon where they cut "supercuts" while playing Industrial Music all day. Produktion also made super 8 films, animations, fanzines and tapes.
Some of their obscure tapes saw them collaborating with artists such as John Duncan, Merzbow, Club Moral, Toshiji Mikawa (Incapacitants) and Nurse With Wound. All Produktion tapes are nowadays very hard to come by and sought after. Remastered from the original tape. Second edition. Ltd x 100 copies (pro-CD) in a card slip with paste-on art. Sold out from the label! |
ENS IMPERFECTISSIMUM - 'Illuminate E Aelimitate' CD (Zazen Sounds) - £12
"Illuminate E Aelimitate" is a guided journey from the stark voices of the abyss... A devotional and ritualistic work dedicated to the dead from different traditions, cults and religions. To achieve this connection and communication, it was recording during the days of the dead through Necroglossolalia. The sound accompaniment is made up of sounds of human bones, kanglins, and pre-Hispanic whistles of death, which fulfill the function of creating vibrations and frequencies that help the manifestation and contact with the dead. These ritualistic syncretisms are recommended for those who follow the path of necromancy. An opus dedicated to the devotees of the dead. To those who travel in the stark obelisk adorned with bones of the old aeon. To those who put candles to light the path of the emaciated. May the sound of the femurs and the drums of skulls in sheep's clothing be a constant rumble that connects us with those who once walked our paths. A blackened physical Ritual recording in the veins of Zero Kama, Phurpa, Lashtal, or Arktau Eos. Gatefold digisleeve. Already sold out from the label! |
KIYOSHI MIZUTANI - 'Inferior's Betrayal' 2 x LP (Ferns Recordings) - £28
Reissue of the self-produced cassette (Ltd 100) from 1994 on Kiyoshi Mizutani's own Ulcer House label. The album includes five long compositions based on textured noises, metallic percussion, feedback and electronics. Mizutani was a member of Merzbow in the '80s, and has made solo works since 1990. "With Merzbow, Mizutani was the guitarist, and I always assumed (but am not sure of) this is also his preferred instrument in solo work, next to sound effects. But, somehow, I also believe he uses field recordings or objects and contact microphones. The first piece, 'A Calm', is such a piece that sounds to me as if he's scraping contact microphones over rusty shovels and feeding that a bunch of sound effects. Interestingly enough, in none of the five pieces, Mizutani sounds like Merzbow, save perhaps for the feedback orgy of 'Parasite'. ... Mizutani's music sounds like an exploration of acoustic sounds drifting into an electronic world. One could say that this is electroacoustic music, but Mizutani adds an element of improvisation" (Vital Weekly). Ltd x 200 copies. |
ELFFOR - 'Frostbitten Pain' CD (Ksenza Records) - £12.50
Reissue of the acclaimed 2010 album from Basque Country dungeon synth / atmospheric black metal act Elffor. "Call it solemnity, call it supreme mastery in the art of ambient "extreme" music, but this is it - Elffor reinventing itself once again... Keyboards set the pace for exquisite atmospheric sounds, martial drums and pure black environmental sounds, with voice of Eöl maintaining an uncorrupted solemnity... Close your eyes and imagine walking through a dark snowy forest... an awesome work of Elffor's pure essence" (Metal Archives)). File next to Summoning, Mortiis etc. Features a bonus 15- minute track. Ltd x 120 copies in a digipak with booklet. Very few copies in stock - act fast! |
DECOMMISSIONED FORESTS - 'Industry' CD (The Liquid Len Recording Company) - £9
"Like a punitive meditation mantra": London's Decommissioned Forests return with their second album, "Industry". Recorded 2019-2021 in the immediate wake of the band's debut "Forestry", this album marks the shift to a full three-piece line-up. Throughout the eight pieces on "Industry", Max Rael's lyrics deal with the ultimate existential despair, whilst Howard Gardner and Daniel Vincent deliver the intense electronics and Instrumental bombast. Much of the album makes extensive use of analogue synths, performed live in the studio to capture the knob twiddling and frequency wrangling in real-time, with tracks such as 'Drop Brick', 'A Comforting Uncertainty', and 'Spectral Kleptomania' showcasing the band's mastery of light and shade: glass, concrete, and steel. |
