B.E.F. (post-HUMAN LEAGUE / pre-HEAVEN 17) - 'Music For Stowaways'- out now!
LP Black £23 | CD £12 | LP Yellow SOLD OUT!

The first reissue of seminal early 1980's electronic recordings from the British Electric Foundation (B.E.F.), aka HEAVEN 17 / ex-THE HUMAN LEAGUE's Martyn Ware and Ian Craig Marsh, with Adi Newton (CLOCK DVA / THE FUTURE), and John Wilson (HEAVEN 17), originally a cassette-only release (1981).
• Ltd x 500 copies on 180g Yellow vinyl (Cold Spring only) SOLD OUT
• 180g Black vinyl
• CD in digipak
Following two groundbreaking albums ('Reproduction' and 'Travelogue'), the original line-up of Sheffield-based The Human League split in half in late 1980. The two primary musicians in the group, Martyn Ware and Ian Craig Marsh, formed a new production company - the British Electric Foundation (B.E.F.) - and signed a deal with Virgin Records to write and produce up to six albums a year. The artists they were to produce would include Heaven 17, their own new band formed with vocalist Glenn Gregory.
B.E.F. would also release their own material, commencing with the music on this collection, which was issued in various permutations in 1981-82. Its initial release in March 1981 was a limited edition numbered eight song cassette entitled 'Music for Stowaways', with 'Stowaways' being a reference to the original name for the then-new Sony portable cassette player - later renamed the Walkman - of which B.E.F. were great fans. 'Music for Stowaways' was intended to be listened to on such a device. The cassette was followed by a seven song LP, 'Music For Listening To', which had a slightly different tracklisting, while other B.E.F. music was utilised for B-sides of early singles by Heaven 17.
This music was among the first recorded by Martyn and Ian directly after their departure from The Human League. Some tracks had evolved from other recordings they were working on at the time, such as 'Groove Thang' - an instrumental version of the debut single by Heaven 17 - and 'The Old At Rest', which derived from a version of 'Wichita Lineman' by Jimmy Webb, their very first recording with Glenn that would subsequently appear on B.E.F.'s 'Music of Quality and Distinction, Volume One' covers album in 1982.
Supporting musicians on 'Music For Stowaways' included Adi Newton of Clock DVA (who had been a member of The Future with Martyn and Ian pre-Human League) on the track 'Uptown Apocalyse', with John Wilson (who provided incredible guitar and bass for Heaven 17) appearing on 'Groove Thang'.
The innovative sounds heard on 'Music For Stowaways' were an inspiration to many aspiring electronic artists. In 2015, Uncut magazine included it in a list of the '50 Greatest Lost Albums of All Time'.

SLEEP RESEARCH FACILITY / LLYN Y CWN - 'Sargo / Posidonia' - out now!
Ltd LP £20 | CD £11

The ultimate deep listening experience from two masters of dark ambient. A slow descent into the blackened watery abyss, where light cannot reach.
The first release from Sleep Research Facility since 2012's "Stealth" (Cold Spring) is inspired by the deep sea ocean floor. The Canadian-based composer explores notions of awareness and perception in the sub/unconscious listener. Focusing primarily on sound bereft of rhythm based energies, SRF provides an environments wherein the music adds texture to the silence. Using form without structure and concentrating on space as opposed to narrative, SRF entertains the idea that music can reside in the very fabric of sound itself. The brand new material here was created specifically for this split release.
Taking inspiration from the beautiful, but often harsh landscapes and environments of his home on Anglesey, North Wales, Llyn Y Cwn has built on the nautical theme of "Du Y Moroedd" (Cold Spring). These tracks are based on field recordings relating to the ocean, and could be seen as a companion piece to the album. 'Dale Dawn' features a recording of the dawn chorus made from the floating pontoon at Dale, Pembrokeshire. 'Pebble' includes the sound of waves crashing on a Dorset cobble beach, thousands of rocks colliding in chorus. 'Doppler Current Profiler' is based on the sound of an ADCP, an acoustic sonar instrument used to measure water currents - a 600Khz ping slowed to a heartbeat.
Limited Edition LP on audiophile black vinyl for best sound presentation. CD in mini-LP sleeve, replicating the vinyl design. The artwork features a separate front cover design with individual art for each side, making this a true split release.

400 LONELY THINGS - 'Mother Moon'- out now! £12

The new album from 400 LONELY THINGS, produced by WILLIAM BASINSKI, is a dark ambient, sample-based séance to the Banning Mill - a real-life decaying "mansion" and haven for artists, freaks and misfits in the backwoods of the American Deep South in the 1970s-1990s - and an extraordinary piece of art that lived there.
An archaeological excursion in found sound - wandering through the art and memory of a real place, "Mother Moon" is an origin story for 400 Lonely Things. In the 90's, Craig Varian was fortunate enough to frequent the Mill in the years before it closed. It was here that he was exposed to the artwork of Richard Scott Hill, whose artwork "Minotauress" graces the album cover. His work both captured and fed into the Mill's sinister yet playful undercurrents of mania and depression. This album, born out of that first visit to the Mill, is an imaginary soundtrack to the many years of solitude the Minotauress spent hanging in the musty, secret winding halls of Banning Mill.
Since the days of the Mill (and Varian's subsequent purchase of "Minotauress" shortly before the Mill closed), Craig Varian, along with best friend and late musical partner Jonathan McCall, found a thread of music they'd been consistently making yet had previously failed to notice - melancholic instrumentals with weathered sampling at its core - going back to their earliest recordings in the late 1980's. Eventually, this music was called 400 Lonely Things.
Presented in a 6-panel spot-varnished digipak.

The first new album in 14 years from LULL - the pioneering, isolationist dark ambient project of MICK HARRIS (SCORN, FRET, ex-NAPALM DEATH).
"I finally heard the way of recording, making profound sounds. Lull is purely something I can get lost in, as far as trying to create these imaginary spaces.
LULL is quite natural for me. It's an extension of me. Drifting. Just going to darkness. Into a space. LULL is drifting and droning, discovering more and more what can be done with sound. These soundscapes hugely appeal to me".
CD in a matt digipak with majestic artwork by Abby Helasdottir (Gydja).
COMBO: 'That Space Somewhere' CD + 'Moments' 2LP Brown £31

A history lesson, recorded in autumn 1989. Unavailable for over 20 years in any format, "Malfeitor" is the classic album from Swedish Black Industrial act Maschinenzimmer 412.
This is evil incarnate, staring into the abyss. With a more lyrical approach than the predecessor "Macht Durch Stimme", "Malfeitor" explores themes of death, with an unequivocal dystopian outlook.
Cavernous heavy industrial, primitive machine rhythms, and cold metallic loops created on old synths with very little post-production. Originally released on LP in 1989 (CMI) this monumental album is now available for the first time since 2001. Also available on digital for the first time ever!
Mastered from the original 4-track tapes.
Matt-laminate digipak with new artwork.

The third album from the Australian post-industrial outfit is a merciless and visceral assault on the senses. An uncompromising force of harsh post-industrial music created with a wide variety of metals, raw materials, metal grates, a rusted hoist, cement cylinders, field recordings, hammering of various decrepit objects, broken amplifiers, various synthesizers, and the infamous metal coil. Much of the creation and lyrical conceptualisation of the record has been stylised and presented using William S. Burroughs' cut-up method.
Mastering: James Plotkin. Art: Nullvoid (T. Ekelund | Trepaneringsritualen).
CD in 6-panel digipak || LP in reverse board sleeve and printed inner lyric sleeve.

The hugely sought-after debut album from DEAD VOICES ON AIR (Mark Spybey of DOWNLOAD / ex-ZOVIET FRANCE, REFORMED FACTION), featuring cEvin Key (SKINNY PUPPY / DOWNLOAD).
"Abrader" blends processed sounds from primitive instruments and found objects into hypnotic loped rhythmic structures, with dark clusters of heavy ambient washes into Organic Panambience, or 'music for the eyes'.
Features previously-unreleased bonus tracks recorded 1994 - taking this masterwork up to 7 tracks and over 67 minutes of exceptional music. Matt-laminate digipak with art by Spybey.

The brand new album from the ritual / industrial / dark ambient act who create music at abandoned industrial locations.
"A portal to another world is located inside an abandoned Soviet-era swamp drain near a residential building in the Zakamsk suburb of Perm, Russia, 58.0122, 55.9623. A ritual was performed here, so now we are living in an inside-out world. This is one of the last recordings inside our Temple - the oil tanks are finally scrapped. Dedicated to the victims of totalitarian regimes".
A vision of a decaying post-industrial age. For fans of: Raison D'etre, Shibalba, Phurpa.
6-panel digipak.

AERIAL RUIN - 'Nameless Sun' LP (Caustic Records) - £20
Aerial Ruin, based in Portland, Oregon is the primarily acoustic solo project of Erik Moggridge (Epidemic, Old Grandad). He also serves as a regular guest vocalist/collaborator with Seattle's doom duo Bell Witch.
This work explores otherworldly terrain where loss and mourning give way to the vast distances of interstellar space while personal esoteric reflection is eclipsed by the violence of stellar nuclear fusion. Aerial Ruin's "richly evocative dark folk style makes for a head-in-hand listening experience. Yes it's dark and minimal, evoking solitude and loneliness but also magic and mesmerizing, soothing and restorative" (Invisible Oranges).
Its "soothing acoustic folk often sounds like a sun-dappled blend of Agalloch, Nechowen and Pink Floyd" (Kim Kelly, Noisey/Vice).
Ltd x 300 copies with inlay. |
BLADDER FLASK - 'One Day I Was So Sad That The Corners Of My Mouth Met & Everybody Thought I Was Whistling' CD (Sonoris) - £11.50
Founded by The New Blockaders' Rupenus brothers, Bladder Flask's debut (and in fact only) LP, originally issued by Orgel Fesper Music in 1981, is one of the most eclectic albums of the post-Industrial era. It is both challenging and perplexing... So, put down your puny instruments of normality and breathe in the frenzied fungal spores of Bladder Flask! The fact that Steven Stapleton of Nurse With Wound is a big fan of this album is testament to its greatness: "I love [the album]... what a great title, perhaps my favourite ever. I must have listened to the album so much in the '80s. I listened to it again recently and it was like welcoming an old friend". Personnel: Richard Rupenus, Philip Rupenus, Sean Breadin, John Mylotte, and Nigel Jacklin - variously members of The New Blockaders, Nihilist Assault Group, Masstishaddhu, Metgumbnerbone, Venereum Arvum, Sedayne, Sir Ashleigh Grove, Alien Brains and more. Audio Restoration & Mastering: Colin Potter (NWW, Ora, Monos). "Comparisons could be made to NWW's Merzbild Schwet: a mixture of Musique Concrete and instrumental collages, but more intense and compact than NWW" (Neumusik). Comes in a 6-panel digipak with three bonus CD-only tracks, one of which was intended to be released on United Dairies, while the other two were released as 7" by Anomalous Records. |
BLADDER FLASK - 'One Day I Was So Sad That The Corners Of My Mouth Met & Everybody Thought I Was Whistling' LP (Sonoris) - £20
Vinyl version of the above release with slightly different cover art. Includes insert. |
CORDE OBLIQUE - 'Mille Anni Che Sto Qui' 7" (Caustic Records) - £10
First time for Mediterranean Folk / Ethereal act Corde Oblique on vinyl, and first remix for the band! Two unreleased songs: "Itri" was only released in digital, but the Vinyl format gives the chance to listen to the song in the best way ever, featuring the band's main vocalist Annalisa Madonna.
The other song "I Sassi di Matera" is an exclusive remix made by the producer Salvio Vassallo using fragments of recordings the original version's instruments, included in the album "I Maestri del Colore" and featuring the Denitza Seraphim, singer from IRFAN.
The songs are very evocative, inspired by two medieval towns of southern italy. The title "Mille anni che sto qui" (in English: "I have been living here for a thousand of years") is from a novel by Mariolina Venezia that has been a big inspiration for the composer Riccardo Prencipe, in his songs southern Italy is conceived like a wild-talented woman. |
DECOMMISSIONED FORESTS - 'Industry' CD (The Liquid Len Recording Company) - £9
"Like a punitive meditation mantra": London's Decommissioned Forests return with their second album, "Industry". Recorded 2019-2021 in the immediate wake of the band's debut "Forestry", this album marks the shift to a full three-piece line-up. Throughout the eight pieces on "Industry", Max Rael's lyrics deal with the ultimate existential despair, whilst Howard Gardner and Daniel Vincent deliver the intense electronics and Instrumental bombast. Much of the album makes extensive use of analogue synths, performed live in the studio to capture the knob twiddling and frequency wrangling in real-time, with tracks such as 'Drop Brick', 'A Comforting Uncertainty', and 'Spectral Kleptomania' showcasing the band's mastery of light and shade: glass, concrete, and steel. |
DER BLAUE REITER - 'Contaminated' 3 x CD Boxset (Caustic Records) - £32
On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the band's formation, Der Blaue Reiter presents this exclusive, luxurious collector's box that contains the band's first three albums.
In addition to everything mentioned previously, the edition has five additional tracks, with parts from old demos, as well as other songs never edited to date, making this edition a true gem for fans of the band. 30 minutes of exclusive extra material.
The first album "Le Paradise Funebre... L'envers de la Tristesse" has been sold out for years and is a desired collectors item. The later "Silencis" and "Nuclear Sun" are equally sold out, so this will be the last chance to have these first three works in physical format, presented in this new apocalyptic edition, which will surely mark the end of our days. Der Blaue Reiter plays apocalyptic and cinematic ambiences mixed with neoclassical passages and martial percussion. The early formation featured members of Ordo Funebris, Fragile, and Narsilion and is now joined by Cecilia Bjargo (Arcana). Ltd x 300 copies in clamshell boxset with each CD in its own sleeve, a booklet and a commemorative metallic pin with Der Blaue Reiter logo. |
ENS IMPERFECTISSIMUM - 'Illuminate E Aelimitate' CD (Zazen Sounds) - £12
"Illuminate E Aelimitate" is a guided journey from the stark voices of the abyss... A devotional and ritualistic work dedicated to the dead from different traditions, cults and religions. To achieve this connection and communication, it was recording during the days of the dead through Necroglossolalia. The sound accompaniment is made up of sounds of human bones, kanglins, and pre-Hispanic whistles of death, which fulfill the function of creating vibrations and frequencies that help the manifestation and contact with the dead. These ritualistic syncretisms are recommended for those who follow the path of necromancy. An opus dedicated to the devotees of the dead. To those who travel in the stark obelisk adorned with bones of the old aeon. To those who put candles to light the path of the emaciated. May the sound of the femurs and the drums of skulls in sheep's clothing be a constant rumble that connects us with those who once walked our paths. A blackened physical Ritual recording in the veins of Zero Kama, Phurpa, Lashtal, or Arktau Eos. Gatefold digisleeve. Already sold out from the label! |
HAR BELEX - 'Campo de Urnas' CD (Caustic Records) - £13
The second full-length of the dark folk act Har Belex, which gives continuity to the melancholic and decadent sounds that consolidated the band within the Dark-folk and Neofolk scene with its first album.
The band exposes in its new songs the relationship of Humanity with itself and its environment, going through multiple registers: some bright and cinematic, others dense and dark. Using both melancholic guitar arpeggios and martial percussion rolls and all this extolled with beautiful arrangements of violin, guitars and electronics.
With these 10 new songs, Har Belex manages to turn everything dark that lives in them into beauty, emotion and passion.
As the intriguing cover suggests, up can be down and the sky can become a sea that floods the Urn Field. Ltd x 500 copies in an embossed 6-panel digipak with 12-page booklet. |
HAR BELEX - 'Campo de Urnas' LP Green (Caustic Records) - £22
Limited GREEN vinyl edition of the above release. Ltd x 100 copies on 180gm vinyl. VERY FEW IN STOCK - ACT FAST! |
HIMUKALT - 'Septic' CD (Old Europa Cafe) - £12
"Septic" was the second full length vinyl release from Himukalt, following 2018's "Knife Through The Spine" (CD version via Cold Spring), and was originally release on a limited LP by Malignant Records in 2020. The Himukalt aesthetic is immediately recognizable; deadening rhythmic pulsations, bristling oscillations, and a steady stream of crackling and frying circuitry, often infused with layers of filth, hostility, and sexuality. Primitive, old school industrial, with an obsessive, post-mortem feel. A unique and challenging take on heavy electronics for fans of Puce Mary, She Spread Sorrow, Atrax Morgue. This CD reissue includes 2 exclusive bonus tracks plus some minor changes on a couple of other tracks, plus a complete remastering by Grant Richardson (Gnawed). Ltd x 300 copies in a 6-panel digipak with 12-page booklet. |
MERZBOW - 'Pulse Demon' CD (Old Europa Cafe) - £13
"Pulse Demon" is probably the most iconic, most representative and best known album in the Japanoise scene and MERZBOW's discography. This is the edge of music and sound, here you enter a new dimension made of powerful noise, using the EMS synthesizer. Recorded in 1995 and first released in 1996 on the US label Relapse, and further reissued on different formats. However, this is first time in which album has been completely remastered by Masami Akita for the CD format, all from the original DAT tapes. An important addition here is an exclusive, *previously-unreleased* bonus track taken from the Pulse Demon recording session DATs. Comes in a 6-panel metallic digisleeve presenting the lavish original and very psychedelic holographic waves artwork. Needless to say, essential! |
O PARADIS - 'Mârs' CD (Caustic Records) - £13
The new album from the Apocalyptic Folk/Pop project Ô Paradis led by Demian Recio.
A trip through the dirtiest, most convinced and most beautiful Ô Paradis. "Mârs" seduces us with a work that is very self-aware.
All the songs have war and pandemic titles, perhaps to drop a stage behind the intimacy of their little stories, or perhaps because all the "guilds" use different "jargon" to hide the same miseries and it doesn't matter if they change places.
Musically, it is the most coherent album of the project. Old influences persist, but they do so as echoes of a memory, the intention to conquer new territories continues to exist, but respecting the will of the pieces and it is a fresh proposal despite, according to the author, having reconstructed the sound several times and discarded many topics until finding the sought expression.
This new album is probably the darkest, most visceral and most compact work by Ô Paradis in recent years. In it we can find acoustic and electric instruments, samples, strings, melancholy, passion, shadows, darkness and light.
Ô Paradis continue to amaze us with their unique and personal sound that combines experimental Pop with the darkest and most apocalyptic folk.
Demian is a composer who cannot escape from himself and who, accompanied by cellist Sara Guri, who also adds female voices, a viola da gamba and even an erhu, turns his obsessions into virtues and his dark music into hope. Ltd x 400 copies in a digipak with 8-page booklet. |
SLF (NORDVARGR) - 'Vi Ska Resa Ett Eldens Tempel I Bromölla' CD (Old Europa Cafe) - £12
SLF (Svenska Likbrännings Föreningen) is NORDVARGR (MZ.412 / Pouppée Fabrikk / Folkstorm etc) and LINDELL. An (un)healthy dose of post-mortem industrial music, made in the traditional way. Mix equal parts bombastic orchestral mayhem, droning dark ambience and the sounds we all will hear at the end of our lives, and you have a tasty treat for all fans of the classic 90's Swedish Industrial sound. Bleak, cold and slow sonic landscapes fuelled by the mystery of the inevitable end. All cremation oven gas nozzles and door locks, freezer ambience, human bone vibrations, dissecting table acoustics and musical instruments by the duo. This CD version also contains a 26-minute bonus track made from the rotting remains of the debut tape (Cloister 2021). Ltd x 300 copies in a 6-panel digipak. |
THE RITA / CALIGULA031 - 'Self Shop' CD (Old Europa Cafe) - £12
"Self Shop" from THE RITA (aka Sam McKinlay of Black To Comm, Vice Wears Black Hose) and Caligula031 (aka Marco Deplano of Wertham) was first released in 2013 as a split tape on Nil By Mouth, in an edition of 180 copies. 2023 marks the 10th anniversary of this album and presented here is a deluxe CD reissue including a third, 20-minute long collaborative track. You know what to expect from those monsters of the Noise-Industrial & HNW scene: sharp and uncompromising harsh noise wall, sounds cutting like a razor inside your brain while you are dreaming about stockings... Ltd x 300 copies in a 6-panel digipak with new artwork. |

ELDAR - 'Amaterasu Shiroi' CD (Caustic Records) - £11
After the great debut album from ELDAR released through Cold Meat Industry comes the reissue of two early releases of this band from Barcelona. First released over two volumes called "Ama Terasu" and "Solve Et Coagula" in 2007/2008. This album is based on the relation of philosophy and society. Humanity in their continuing struggle to manage their destination uses the philosophy to guide their society, unlike animals that only use force to impose its collective. Other times it is used for personal purposes and lead the masses. A divine spirit behind the philosophy, but this is used for diabolical purposes. This work is dedicated to all those who have fought and still fighting for that philosophy is a social ideal and the only way for humanity to evolve. We pray to the deity Amaterasu to make this possible. All the tracks been re-recorded and re-mastered from the original recordings, including almost all the instruments and voices. Various features and sounds/samples of songs, including inedit songs have been added. The result is an album completely new and different from the first recordings of those years. A must for fans of Triarii, Toroidh, A Challenge of Honour, Stahlwerk 9. 6-panel digisleeve. |

CHRISTOPH HEEMAN - 'End Of An Era' LP (Ferns Recordings) - £22
"Heemann has quite a remarkable catalogue of works to his name. First as a member of HNAS, Germany's answer to Nurse With Wound, then with a solo career, incorporating drones and field recordings, but also with his excellent duo with Andrew Chalk as Mirror, and Timo van Luijk, as In Camera... On the first side 'Time and Again... and Again' is not your typical Heemann piece... In this piece, Heemann puts emphasis on the use of drums, a loop that goes on and on, in the first half of the piece, with sounds going in and out of the mix. Think a bit of krautrock mixed with a bit of dub, but then not sounding like any. In the second half of the piece, it all leans on synthesizers, and the music is eerie and sparse but never becomes a traditional piece of mood music. That side of Heemann is reserved for the other side, 'Time is the Simplest Thing', in which field recordings are heavily obscured by sound effects so that none of the original sounds is easily recognized. In Heemann's well-known style, the music goes through various moods and textures, never stays too long in the same place, yet still has that fine ambient industrial quality. On the cover, he mentions receiving raw sound material from Achim Wollscheid, Asmus Tietchens and Ralf Wehowsky, all peers of Heemann, with Tietchens being the eminence grise of the quartet, which is a fine group of gentlemen" (Vital Weekly). Ltd x 300 copies on clear vinyl. |
NATURALE - 'Meditation Over Mørket' LP (Yoshiwara Collective / Virkelighedsfjern) - £18
Primarily recorded in an old, abandoned house close to Strömstad, Sweden, that eerie ambience pervades the creaking backdrop to this solo album. Written as a lyrical stream of consciousness, it explores humanity's relationship to nature, darkness and the absence of light by tapping into folk, drone and psychedelia. It's an intriguing and somewhat haunting experience quite unlike what you might expect from our Danish protagonist Kristian Andersen, who has proffered hypnotic drift and explosive sounds via his tenure in GAIA, LUCID GRAVE and MÅNESKJOLD. Simply leave behind any preconceptions you might be carrying as you step across this particular threshold. Ltd x 200 copies in reverse-board sleeve. |
THE NEW BLOCKADERS - 'Simphonie In X Major' CD (Menstrualrecordings) - £12
Reissue of noise classic "Simphonie in X Major" (1989) plus "Simphonie In O Minor" (1991), both originally issued by Hypnagogia. "Simphonie In X Major's two movements push the boundaries of TNB's debut, Changez Les Blockeurs to its logical limit... The two movements contain all that is good in the world of TNB and by extension the Noise world at large, an aural delight that takes in massive amounts of junk-scrape, buckets of nails, cutlery wars, medieval catapults being drawn taught, all of it harnessed into a framework of surround sound tumult" (Idwal Fisher). "Simphonie In X Major uses a sarcastic Dadaist title to conceal an LP of sheer genius filth-noise concoction. A full panoply of sounds: junkyard percussion, revving-engines and industrial power-tools, all providing a sense of unstoppable forward motion. This simphonie is a continual charge forward into the very maw of death" (The Sound Projector). "Simphonie In O Minor is, depending on your point of view, the sound of tape-hiss, an unheard scream in the dark, or the entire history of Noise put through a shredder and reversed back into oblivion" (Idwal Fisher). TNB advocates maximum volume and an inflated equalization of the low and high frequencies for optimum listening. Ltd x 300 copies in a digipak. |
SLEEPWALKER - 'Monument From The Void' CD (Ksenza Records) - £11.50
Enigmatic guitar soundscapes and ambient drone walls from Russia's Sleepwalker, with themes ranging from the mysteries of space to Eastern philosophy, using shamanic and analogue instruments, sound effects and custom pedals for guitar and synths. "Landing squarely between dark ambient and post-rock, Sleepwalker's guitar and percussion soundscapes are both haunting and majestic. The album's four tracks begin with the self-titled opener, featuring cosmic layered guitar drones. The second track, Le Cercle Rouge, couples undistorted guitar melodies with harmonies made up of long-held notes, as well as semi-martial percussion. The percussion becomes more involved, almost tribal, on Dream Cycle, as the guitars produce waves of textures. All of this culminates in Neverending Journey Through the Void, a 29-minute excursion with slow but heavy chording and stark synth melodies. Quieter passages are introspective and reminiscent of dark ambient, while aggressive percussion and guitar, as well as a hint of chanted vocals, drive the more assertive movements to crescendo" (Avant Music News). Features a joint track with Liholesie. Digipak. |
BELL - 'Enigma Calling' LP (Cyclopean Eye Productions) - £20
Nearly 4 years after its groundbreaking debut full length "Secrets From A Distant Star", the mysterious Power Electronics entity Bell returns with a new mini-CD aptly titled "Enigma Calling". Weighing in heavily on its early Berlin electronics influences, Bell's current material dwells on the ruins and embers of post WWII Germany, the Enigma Machine, missile technology and the emergence of bizarre religious cults. Rhythmic, pulsating, trance inducing, "Enigma Calling" builds layer upon layer of humming distortion, arpeggiators and sequencers with subdued percussion in a manner that only Bell can. This is a tribute to early 1970's electronica inspired by a dark end of an era. FFO: Tangerine Dream, Kraftwerk, Klaus Schulze. Ltd x 100 copies only in a high-gloss sleeve with full-size insert. |
SENESTRA - 'Stanford' CD (Fourth Dimension) - £11.50
Debut collaboration between Puppy38 (Hiroshimabend) and Alan Rider (Adventures in Reality, Stress, Dance Naked, Attrition, etc.). This album brings together incredible electronic / synthesizer works designed to recreate the sound experience of the notorious Stanford Prison Experiment. A dash of John Carpenter, whispers of early Cabaret Voltaire and a portion of gingerbread stuffed with darkness... "Rider plays the Roland Juno 106, Arturia mini brute, Korg MS20, Korg Mono Poly, Wasp, Boss DR55 and the guitar, while Puppy38 plays Korg Radias, Ensoniq ASR-X, atmospherics and noises... In the Standord experiment, volunteers were used [as] prison guards, and during the experiment, these volunteers became very violent against the prisoners, who were also volunteers, arrested by real police. They were not informed when they would be arrested. The idea was to see how people would exercise given authority of others. It was shut down after six days. The experiment became known as one of the most unethical psychological experiments ever... The music has that dark 80's feeling and sounds like a time machine, bringing back the music of Stress, Attrition, Bushido, Konstruktivists, and We Be Echo, but with no doubt, better equipment these days. Let's call it the sound of British electronic music in the early 80s, progressing from traditional industrial music and moving away from proper harsh noise. The music gets dark and darker, it seems, as days follow... In many ways, all of this, music, idea and packaging, sounds like a re-issue of an ancient cassette... a subtle reminder of the days of musical discovery" (Vital Weekly). |
SMALL CRUEL PARTY - 'Do You Believe In A Pencil' CD (Ferns Recordings) - £13
Originally published on his own label in 1991, this is the first reissue of the rare first CD release from SCP: "Do You Believe In A Pencil". It is a work with a half-drone-like structure in which metallic sounds that rub against each other intermingle with low-fidelity environmental sounds. A strong intonation style that is different from Jeph Jerman of the same lineage. The original was composed of two parts, (beginning) and (ending), but it has been newly edited into a single 73-minute track. Small Cruel Party is a project started in the late 80's by the solitary French artist William Key Ransone. Comes with brand new different artwork by Abo (Mark Schomburg / Petry Supply). Ltd x 200 copies in a die-cut gatefold sleeve with each copy featuring uniquely printed and pasted art, making each copy one-of-a-kind. |
MLEHST - 'Pedantic / Pessimistic' CD (Analogue Masters) - £11
Reissue of an ultra-rare lathe cut from the UK experimental / noise perversions project, founded in 1991 by All Brentnall. Mlehst presents 40 minutes of cut-up noise experiments, with piercing noise, avant-garde / jarring interludes, and metallic drones. A challenging listen. "Pedantic / Pessimistic" was originally produced as a clear vinyl lathe cut in 1998 by the legendary Peter King (and released on Mlehst's own Bandaged Hand Produce), in a tiny edition of 20 copies. King works out of a rural location in Ashburton, New Zealand, carving clear polycarbonate discs into records on a series of lathe-cutting devices. Mastered from original chrome cassette tape (one of the few Mlehst master tapes that still exist) from the original 1998 recordings. Ltd x 300 copies in a digipak. |
GARDEN OF WORM - 'Endless Garden' CD (Pariah Child) - £10
It has been seven barren years since the "Idle Stones" by Finnish Doom metallers Garden Of Worm was revealed. But the wait was not in vain. This third full-length album, "Endless Garden", witnesses the trio in full bloom. The sound is both organic and punchy, the songs brimming with life. Collectively, they feel like a breezy spring day with proggy folk hues shimmering in the sunlight and a gentle fragrance of melancholy lingering in the air. Distilled in old oak barrels, they have fermented long beyond humble doomed beginnings yet retained that unmistakably personal cherished character. An album that stands tall, feet firmly in the muddy earth and hands reaching towards the sky, this is a culmination of their craft. Drink deep the heady ambience. It will intoxicate again and again. Ltd x 300 copies in a 6-panel digisleeve with 8-page booklet. |
