The classic, genre-defining 1993 album from LULL - the pioneering, isolationist dark ambient project of MICK HARRIS of SCORN, FRET, ex-NAPALM DEATH - is a dark journey through the Stygian netherworlds of Hell.
The listener is left with the impression of a final escape into reality; a return upon waking, with only wispy trace memories and the heavy rush of blood-pumping fear as a keepsake.
With this album, we are plunged back into a dark pit of noise - all escape barred, all hope dashed. The nightmare continues, the journey through underworlds descends deeper. These are soundtracks for Nightmares. Despite there being just three tracks on the album, it lasts just shy of 75 minutes.
Originally released on Sentrax (the label of the late John Everall / Tactile), the CD suffered the 'disc rot' fate of many PDO pressings from 1988-1993, rendering most of that initial run unplayable.
Mixed by Justin K Broadrick (GODFLESH). Remastered by Martin Bowes (The Cage Studios) from the original recordings supplied by Mick Harris.

Released for the first time on any format, we proudly present the soundtrack to the 2020 sci-fi horror film 'Sputnik' (directed by Egor Abramenko).
The bleak and hauntingly atmospheric film is accompanied by an impressively heavy soundtrack from Oleg Karpachev, who uses bombastic percussion, stirring strings, and otherworldly synths to convey the horror unfolding on screen.
Set during Cold War Soviet Russia, the ominous film starring Oksana Akinshina (Bourne Supremacy), Fedor Bondarchuk, and Pyotr Fyodorov Jr follows the story of a cosmonaut returning from space with a mysterious extraterrestrial organism; essential viewing for those with a penchant for "Alien"-style body horror.

SONOLOGYST - 'Shortwave Spectrum'

The new Sonologyst "sonic documentary" delves into the secretive realm of shortwave transmissions; a chronicle of clandestine shortwave transmissions culled from a span of nearly four decades (1982-2021). These mysterious transmissions - repetitive voices, signals, sound pulses, short pieces of music - were collated and edited to compose the tracks of the main album.
Immersed in an isolating fog of dark ambient, deep drone music and cinematic sound art, it provides an auditory exploration of the ongoing Cold War. Originating from covert radio stations engaged in military and espionage endeavours, the tracks unveil a hidden sonic landscape of strategic communication.
The second disc, in its extensive presentation, provides a deeper immersion into these enigmatic broadcasts. Each recording remains unaltered, accompanied only by a ghostly drone. It offers an unfiltered glimpse into the world of clandestine communication, where words are transmitted beneath the radar and in the shadowy confines of the electromagnetic spectrum.

THE TELESCOPES - 'Experimental Health'

The latest chapter in The Telescopes' idiosyncratic exploration of sound combines hallucinatory ballads with transcendent melodies, clanging, and lo-fi buzzes, with a substantial amount of crushing and sound degradation. The result is an album radiating a dark and abrasive, yet ethereal energy.
Created entirely independently by Stephen Lawrie in a remote cottage in West Yorkshire between January to May 2022, the record was made with broken toys and cheap synths - mostly Pocket Operators and miniature synths, with no guitars present. The complexity of sound rests within the simplicity of the composition and musical arrangements.
The bonus remixes are two divergent interpretations by Black Market Karma and Mosaic Runes, both artists deploying their own respective skill sets and aura. The former with unfurling guitars and live drums, spreading a magnetic warmth and charm. The latter returning to the cryptic spectres haunting the record, drawing out the hidden spirit of broken equipment and infusing the tracks with their signature fractured ice.

This box also contains a new addition to the OUTLAND series - an album of dense, bass space drone by Bill Laswell, entitled "Blackland". A carefully curated selection of the crucial compilation tracks from Horror Electronics / Post-Industrial project BURIAL HEX, gathering and remastering them together, striving to create a resonance between disparate sources, forming an extraordinary new experience.
Many of the tracks were from cassettes, vinyl, or digital-only releases for labels such as Brave Mysteries, Aurora Borealis, Clan Destine, Small Doses, and Buh, appearing here on CD for the first time - or in the case of 'Pentitential March', never-before released. Clay Ruby has remixed each track, in some cases re-envisioning them specifically to live together coherently in this incarnation, making this collection more like a new studio album rather than another anthology compilation.

 ALTERNATIVE TV - 'Direct Action' LP (Fourth Dimension) - £20
"Direct Action", Alternative TV's first studio album since "Opposing Forces" (2015), presents six lengthy instrumental tracks which steadily rip apart all expectations as they shed all allusions to rock music in favour of the kind of sonic mutilations that once helped 1979's classic (and Nurse With Wound list endorsed) "Vibing Up the Senile Man (Part One)" stumble into weird and wonderful shapes. "Direct Action" marries guttural electronics to experimental sounds, and through Perry's long perfected mastery of pulling together disparate strands to create something entirely alchemical and invigorating delivers a unique stamp to the ATV story. With the help of collaborators Dave Morgan, Gareth Matthews, Ruth Tidmarsh and Cos Chapman, abstract patterns of dishevelled sound rub alongside occasional percussion, disembodied plasma guitar strums and an oboe groaning in a murky corner. Everything adds up to a whole that's demanding yet completely rewarding as every listen prises open the dark scab of contemporary malaise to reveal something fresh. Easy listening this isn't.  ARUM LILIES - 'Subsurface Aquifers' CD (Death Continues Records) - £12
The rather obscure second album of Arum Lilies, a brainchild of Mark Groves (Dead Boomers, Von Einem etc.), provides vaguely unsettling, eerily obscure experimental electronics. Harrowing, subtle atmospherics clash with moments of eardrum shattering industrial noise; warbling pseudomelodies are offset by crackling static and piercing feedback; ominous vocal samples are layered on passages of tightly controlled minimalism. The music on "Subsurface Aquifers" migrates between poles; from an almost ambient sparsity of expression to exuberant bursts of chaos. This is not an album of shallow industrial nihilism or typical power electronics misanthropy. It does not allow itself to be defined so easily. The beginning perils of a chapter in the Sinisterly-Numinous saga,"Death Ambient, Death Cult..." was composed entirely by Necuratul in 2019. This chapter involves itself in the invocation of death manifesting in a physical form; The Wanderer. The Wanderer is the saga's avatar as a representation of endless ideas and forms. This harrowing and ominous release carries themes of death invocations and vengeful curses being delivered to its intended targets, as a means to tear and eviscerate the flesh into the spirit itself, hence, becoming carrion. A death ambient form that permanently remains in your spirit and your mind, influencing your very physical movement. The material herein paints a portrait of sincere self-honesty and reflection in its most revealing essence. It does what it is intended; to force the subject or individual to confront the Magian Distortion in an esoteric manner. A saga to be told in the most vicious and sincere aspect. Hunting Lodge was one of the earliest DIY electronic industrial bands in the American underground, formed in 1982, disbanding in '89. Formed in Michigan by Lon C. Diehl, Richard Skott and Karl Nordstrom (who left in '83), "8-Ball" was the first album in their "third wave", after adding new drummer / lyricist / engineer to the band: Helmut Robison. Reissue of this fantastic 1984 12" by the French answer to D.A.F.! Formed in Nancy in 1982 by Farid Dahlab and Pascal Hubert (and later joined by François Rousseau), legendary Coldwave band OTO evolved in the same path as the illustrious inspirations of the time. A spiky New Wave pop with a darker Gothic edge. Torn between the synth-pop of OMD and the Coldwave of Kas Product models, the duo gave birth to ten pieces soaked with electronic urgency, a fever to dance and the synthetic rage to live before throwing in the sponge in the general indifference, five years later. Dark Ambient maestro RNGMNN joins with contemporary composer, singer and experimental musician, Karina Dorin for the first physical manifestation of their collaborative passion for music. Dorin handled the haunting / ethereal vocal parts, using her numerous effect pedals, while RNGMNN created the dark atmospheres around them. After exchanging recordings back and forth between 2020-2021, the duo have since performed live. "Our most unsettling fears are only a dream away. Never sleep again". RNGMNN (Ronny Engmann) is an artist within the dark ambient scene who has been on the rise in recent years, following releases on labels such as Winter-Light, Cryo Chamber, Reverse Alignment, and Noctivant. With a formal background in classical music and jazz, Karina Dorin is a singer, contemporary composer and experimental musician based in Berlin. In recent years, she has delved into experimental electronic composition techniques, especially vocal sampling-based methods, incorporating the human voice into an electronic musical environment, manipulating it live, and even using it as a trigger for external visual elements.  VARIOUS ARTISTS - 'Decoder - The Soundtrack' LP (Replica Nova) - £20
A cult classic of sci-fi dystopia, "Decoder" (1984) saw EINSTÜRZENDE NEUBAUTEN's members working alongside GENESIS P-ORRIDGE (THROBBING GRISTLE / PSYCHIC TV) and WILLIAM S. BURROUGHS. It's one of the strangest (and most prescient) films of the decade. The film was made in Hamburg and Berlin, and directed by Muscha (who directed several punk films). The lead roles are played by Christiane F and FM Einheit from Neubauten, who also contributed to the film's score. Genesis P-Orridge, the kingpin of the English industrial scene, also appears as a priest of the Black Noise faith. Author William S. Burroughs portrays an insurrectionist salesman of audio equipment, and American cult actor Bill Rice plays a detective. MATT JOHNSON from THE THE wrote a frenetic, deformed song for the film that is both fantastic and painful to listen to, but DAVE BALL (SOFT CELL) and Genesis P-Orridge composed the rest of the soundtrack. A futuristic film, and a joyous application of William S. Burroughs' "The Electronic Revolution", which proposes a seditious and rather poetic method of subverting the masses and inciting them to rise up against the forces of order. Ball and P-Orridge shrewdly hijack elevator music for their own ends: alongside loops taken from actual muzak records are synths that pump out slow, almost funky grooves, a few jazzy spirals of piano notes intertwined with bleeps, samples, grinding sounds, reverb and whispers that could be either sensual or menacing. "Decoder" rejoices in its dialectic between "muzak" and "black noise" in various ways, looking to take as many liberties and make as many exaggerations as it can get away with. |

"...one of the more disturbing, unsettling releases we have heard in a while... uncomfortable, minimalist noise, very deep drones, death industrial atmospheres and sounds that mimic marginally tuning antique radios and half-effective LP players with old, crackling records. We don't listen to this music because it's beautiful. We do so because there is a comfort in discomfort, because sometimes we are attracted to that which evokes images that are often on at the dark horizon of our imagination. ElectronicDeathBlackDogs present the stark and desolate album 'Hinterland' - an audio air-brushed soundscape depicting a bleak, craggy landscape, sparsely inhabited, wind-swept and boulder strewn. Ancient fingers of granite scrabble from out of the bowels of the Earth, pointing accusingly at the blackened skies above. Dark ambient dreams from out of The Borderlands of Scotland, created by Roddy Graham. Palais Ideal's high-energy songs are constructed from fragments of post-punk and new wave. The band uses vintage synths, guitars and equipment to create an authentic, early 80's sound. Influenced by The Cure, New Order, The Sound and Ultravox, this music should appeal to fans of contemporary bands à la She Past Away, Lebanon Hanover and Editors. Old post-punk and synth-pop-era music for nostalgic ears. Their style is characterised by a strong fusion of cold / minimal wave elements with melancholic dark vocals, organic sounds and distinctive vocals. Phallus Dei - one of the most important German industrial / darkwave projects of the 90's - celebrate their 25th anniversary with the album "Black Dawn". Combining industrial guitar drones with minimal music, Phallus Dei's signature elements melt together creating a repetitive, orchestral wall of sound on what is definitely their heaviest, deepest album ever. Featuring guest performances by Peter Brötzmann and Jacqueline Hamelink. This CD edition features the exclusive 20-minute track 'Stigmata' (not present on the LP edition), featuring electronics by MERZBOW and bass clarinet by Niels Van Hoorn. Comes in a 6-panel ecopak. |
 SEPPUKU PARADIGM - 'Martyrs O.S.T.' LP (The Omega Productions Records) - £25
The final edition of the soundtrack of the film Martyrs (2008) on physical format for the first time. Composed by the French duo Seppuku Paradigm (Alex and Willie Cortés). Directed in 2008 by Pascal Laugier, Martyrs is undoubtedly one of the most controversial French horror films ever made. Beyond the symbolism of its purpose or the hyperrealism of its special effects, the footage is only the representation of a love between two friends, within an increasingly dehumanized society. The music composed by the Cortés brothers results from the vision of its director; sometimes cold and austere, sometimes organic and even melancholy. Thought more by its creators as a concept album rather than a simple sound illustration, the soundtrack ends with the famous title 'Your Witness', with pop-Floydian accents. The song 'My Neighborhood' by composer Goldmund is also present for the first time. Resulting from a close collaboration for over a year between brothers Cortés, Goldmund and The Omega Productions Records, this edition contains the entire score on vinyl 150gr, a minimalist design created by Grégory Lê and internal notes returning to the process of creating the album by Willie Cortés. The gatefold sleeve contains a mark in real chrome derived from the cold aesthetic imagined by Pascal Laugier. Collector's edition strictly limited to 1000 copies, with chrome foilblock finish. |

 TUNNELS OF AH - 'The Smeared Cloth (2012-2018 Unearthed)' 2 x Cassette (Cruel Nature Records) - £15
"The Smeared Cloth" is a double tape compilation containing TUNNELS OF AH recordings from 2012-2018, which have not yet been published on any medium. The first tape is filled with compositions from the period before the debut album "Lost Corridors" on Cold Spring and outtakes from the sessions for "Thus Avici", the next album for the British label. The second tape contains tracks recorded during and between the sessions for "Surgical Fires" and "Charnel Transmissions". Although they were created as loose compositions, out of the concepts clearly outlined on each of the aforementioned albums, they sound incredibly coherent, giving impression of being part of a concept release. This makes them a pleasure to listen to; especially when we get carried away in the world created by Stephen Ah Burroughs (Head Of David) with the sounds characteristic of his work. Sometimes they evoke associations with ancient rituals, intensifying the impression of Egyptian darkness, the feeling of coldness and emptiness coming as if from a deep dungeon, and with them an echo. A vinyl-only release in early 2023 by House Of Mythology, "Fire Worshipper" is the group's fourth full-length album, presented here on CD for the first time. The core of The Stargazer's Assistant consists of three musicians: David J. Smith (Guapo, The Amal Gamal Ensemble), Michael J. York (COIL, The Utopia Strong, Urthona), and David J. Knight (UnicaZürn, Shock Headed Peters), who were accompanied during the recording session for this album by Antti Uusimaki, a long-time friend, producer, musician and recording engineer. "Fire Worshipper" is the result of the band's natural development in the direction chosen by its members a long time ago. The music seems to arise from the similar sensitivity of these three personalities. What undoubtedly influenced numerous projects within their parent groups, is here realised in the form of a dialogue, based on their specific harmonies, sounds and an atmosphere resembling something like a sound meditation, enriched with acoustic decorations. This musical phenomenon can be simply defined as esoteric ambient, stylistically fitting somewhere between the albums of Cyclobe, UnicaZurn, Coil from the last period of activity and all kinds of lunar publications. The long awaited reissue of this beautiful 2001 album of intimate fragile folk, chamber jazz, delicate prog/psych, and rich orchestral arrangements. Finnish band Kuusumin Profeetta grew out of (and initially partially co-existed with) the band Moon Fog Prophet (a direct translation of the new Finnish name). At the more minimalistic end of the spectrum, and beginning with Finnish language texts, the album deals with the sense of alienation among other topics, in a distinctively poetic but touching and identifiable manner. The group created songs that were much smaller in scale than before and combined hues of folk, jazz and other flavours into a unique blend. The new soundscape of the band was on the one hand intimate and fragile, on the other hand imaginative and rich. The record got an overwhelmingly ecstatic response especially in the Finnish alternative music circuit, and many now consider the first album under Kuusumun Profeetta name a timeless classic. Comes with the bonus track "Kaunis Iltapäivä Laskeutuu".

 FRANCISCO LÓPEZ - 'Dynamo' CD (Unexplained Sounds) - £12
Dynamo is a large-scale suspended artwork specifically developed for the atrium of the Spanish Pavilion at Expo Dubai 2020. Created by Daniel Canogar in collaboration with composer / audio-artist Francisco López, the artwork is composed of sculptural screens that form three interlaced loops. A large-scale, multi-channel sound system arranged in a ring of 16 concealed speakers is built into the walls that project sound into the space, in ever-changing sonic combinations triggered by the visual patterns from the screens. Surrounding the artwork is a spiralling ramp with interactive sensors under the handrail, translating touch into animated sparks on the screens. The more the public activates the sensors, the more vibrant Dynamo's visual and sonic content becomes. Mimicking the workings of an electromagnetic dynamo, the artwork eventually collects enough energy to generate a thundering experience that resonates through the atrium. The ecstatic discharge is followed by a quieter mode, which gives way to a new cycle of gradual build-up. Dynamo is a meditation on the circulatory nature of energy and the synchronization of biological and technological systems. It is also an invitation for us to imagine and participate in the dynamos that will energize our future. "There is a slightly industrial feeling here, like walking along a conveyer belt in a big industrial building. Machines buzz and hum, and there is a strong, energetic flow to the sounds. Sometimes the sound of water sets events in motion, like a good old waterwheel but with a more electric feeling... Rumour said there would be no more albums and that the Stratvm Terror project was dead.. but no, they had just gone underground. Returning after 15 years with their new assault, the album is filled with seven oppressive and depressive weird obscurities to ease or cause you pain, depending on your inclinations. Massive layers of corrosive death industrial darkness with occasional injections of ominous noise sounds and claustrophobic vocals makes this an utterly end-of-life experience. The Swedish duo consisting of doom metal guru Tobias Larsson (Ocean Chief) and dark ambient master Peter Andersson (Raison D'être) began in 1993 and released a great number of albums in the late 90's / early 00's, taking a long break around 2008. With "Love Me Tender Or I Will Cause Pain", the project celebrates their 30-year anniversary with no happiness, only sweet pain. Mastering and layout by Peter Andersson. Does Abdul Alhazred's cursed Necronomicon, the best known of the "forbidden books", really exist? Is it really part of the so-called "pseudobiblia" (books that do not exist) or did H.P. Lovecraft base the Mythos of Cthulhu and all the vast, incredible Pantheon that pervades his fascinating and disturbing literary adventures on it? In 1937 Lovecraft wrote, "The term Necronomicon came to my mind during a dream, including the etymology". Despite this, the belief that the Necronomicon - an occult text containing knowledge from beyond the Earth - is a real book persists. Legend has it that Lovecraft's grandfather was an occultist who had a vast library of occult books (including the Necronomicon) that young Howard used to engulf himself in, reading all of them with fervour and becoming a black magician. In this collection of music pieces and soundscapes, eleven dark ambient / drone / esoteric musicians give homage to the Necronomicon and expand the enigmatic mythology with the same passion for the subject as all the other "Mythos" creator: Nam-Khar, Mario Lino Stancati, Infinexhuma, Nubiferous, The Khronos Deathcult, Iron Chthulhu Apocalypse, Mombi Yuleman, Adonai Atrophia,Cal Glover-Wessel,Occult Odyssey, and Plamen Vecnosti.  BRUNO DE ANGELIS - 'Fluidics 21' CD (ADN) - £12
Bruno De Angelis will be known to many as a member of the groups Influenza Prods., Mana ERG, Flu, and most recently LHAM (with Giuseppe Verticchio), but he has also released a handful of solo works under this given name and Bruno Due. Originally a digital-only self-release under the title "Fluidics" (2012), "Fluidics 21" consists of 14 tracks of experimental electronic music with unusual rhythms, crackly dissonances, linear trajectories, intricate knots and obscure atmospheres. An interesting blend of contemporary electronic music and illuminated ambient music with some hints of his past Wave experiences. Digipak.
