Step into the shadows of ancient mysticism as Llyn Y Cwn, the maestro of Welsh dark ambient, unveils the mesmerising odyssey that is "Megaliths".
A profound exploration of the sacred resonance embedded within stone circles, capturing years of field recordings from the silent and enigmatic monuments that stand as timeless witnesses to the ebb and flow of existence.
Ben Powell has crafted a sonic voyage that mirrors the sacred spaces marked by stoic pillars of rock, each track representing a specific site. Delving deep into the esoteric significance of stone circles, the album portrays these structures not merely as historical relics but as religious ceremonial sites where the veil between our world and the eternal realm becomes tantalisingly thin.
Extracting ambient soundscapes from burial chambers, Ben has utilised convolution reverbs to replicate the ominous ambiance of these ancient spaces. A veteran of stone circle exploration, Ben's decades-long journey has yielded field recordings that capture the haunting whispers of wind and the solemn caws of crows, enveloping the listener in a ghostly atmosphere that transcends the ordinary.
Guided by the wisdom found in Julian Cope's "The Modern Antiquarian" and Aurbrey Burl's "A Guide to the Stone Circles of Britain", Llyn Y Cwn embarks on a sonic pilgrimage across the country, exploring the remote bleakness of these sites. The album transitions from the cramped, gloomy chambers of tombs to the unroofed, wide rings - a journey from darkness to light, from the dead to the living, and from the grave to the sky.
"Megaliths" is a ritual, a sonic séance that beckons listeners to commune with the ancient energies that saturate these sacred circles - an atmospheric descent into the heart of mysterious realms, where the boundaries between the earthly and the spiritual blur into an indistinguishable, haunting atmosphere. "We may not speak the same language, but in the vortex of sound, there's a raw, primal understanding that transcends words. Noise can be art, a visual representation could maybe be Jackson Pollock's No 5, a plexus of chaos redefining what music can and could be. Pushing boundaries with Masami wasn't just a musical adventure, it was a masterclass in sonic anarchy" (Jack Dangers, January 2024).
"Extinct" sees the duo take listeners on a transcendental journey, focusing on the dismantling of beat and structure and recycling the result through layers of beautifully crafted noise and feedback loops, giving birth to new rhythms buried deep in the dirt.
The 20 minute opener '!FLAKKA¡' takes constantly evolving breakbeats which are gradually broken down over time, driven through a filter of harsh noise, destroying the old to give birth to the new. Raw and unforgiving, the track is a behemoth that blends mutant forms of broken beats and hints of dub, creating rhythmic noise of the highest calibre in the process.
'Burner' takes the record to its ultimate conclusion, the initial drum beat broken down so that it is barely recognisable. Pulsating distortion and high end audio fragments bleed into each other as the track lumbers forth and destroys everything in its path before slowly unravelling, degrading and falling apart.
A harrowing yet somewhat cathartic trip through walls of harsh industrial noise and audio degradation, "Extinct" is a masterful pairing of artists who have delivered something truly unique yet totally relevant. Don't sleep on this one! (Todd Robinson / Subunit)

CORRUPTED - 'Felicific Algorithm / Mushikeras'

Corrupted is a mysterious Japanese doom metal band, formed in 1994. Immensely downtuned guitar and crushingly slow bass are shrouded under deep layers of feedback. They are rightly hailed as one of the heaviest and darkest doom metal bands of all time.
This is not a simple reissue of the 2018 multi-speed, vinyl-only release "Felicific Algorithim" (Cold Spring). Though the first two tracks were created using the same field recordings / source material captured in Amagasaki, Osaka, and Fukushima, the tracks have been carefully reworked into a much darker sound. The new track titles 'Felicific Algiorithm' and 'Felicific Aligorithm' reflect this; like a mind virus appearing the same at first glance.
The 27-minute track 'Mushikeras' was recorded 2022-23 as a four-piece line-up of Kaz Mike (howling guitar and bass), Rie Lambdoll (vocal and bass), Mark Y. (guitar and bass), and Chew (drum and high carbon steel). A self-released digital-only track in autumn '23, this is the first physical manifestation of this doom metal behemoth, full of loud sludge, funeral dirge, haunting whispers / howling harsh vocals, and atmospheric build-ups.

LULL - 'Journey Through Underworlds'

The classic, genre-defining 1993 album from LULL - the pioneering, isolationist dark ambient project of MICK HARRIS of SCORN, FRET, ex-NAPALM DEATH - is a dark journey through the Stygian netherworlds of Hell.
The listener is left with the impression of a final escape into reality; a return upon waking, with only wispy trace memories and the heavy rush of blood-pumping fear as a keepsake.
With this album, we are plunged back into a dark pit of noise - all escape barred, all hope dashed. The nightmare continues, the journey through underworlds descends deeper. These are soundtracks for Nightmares. Despite there being just three tracks on the album, it lasts just shy of 75 minutes.
Originally released on Sentrax (the label of the late John Everall / Tactile), the CD suffered the 'disc rot' fate of many PDO pressings from 1988-1993, rendering most of that initial run unplayable.
Mixed by Justin K Broadrick (GODFLESH). Remastered by Martin Bowes (The Cage Studios) from the original recordings supplied by Mick Harris.

Set during Cold War Soviet Russia, the ominous film starring Oksana Akinshina (Bourne Supremacy), Fedor Bondarchuk, and Pyotr Fyodorov Jr follows the story of a cosmonaut returning from space with a mysterious extraterrestrial organism; essential viewing for those with a penchant for "Alien"-style body horror.

The new Sonologyst "sonic documentary" delves into the secretive realm of shortwave transmissions; a chronicle of clandestine shortwave transmissions culled from a span of nearly four decades (1982-2021). These mysterious transmissions - repetitive voices, signals, sound pulses, short pieces of music - were collated and edited to compose the tracks of the main album.
Immersed in an isolating fog of dark ambient, deep drone music and cinematic sound art, originating from covert radio stations engaged in military and espionage endeavours, the tracks unveil a hidden sonic landscape of strategic communication.
The second disc, in its extensive presentation, provides a deeper immersion into these enigmatic broadcasts. Each recording remains unaltered, accompanied only by a ghostly drone. An unfiltered glimpse into the world of clandestine communication.

The latest chapter in The Telescopes' idiosyncratic exploration of sound combines hallucinatory ballads with transcendent melodies, clanging, and lo-fi buzzes, with a substantial amount of crushing and sound degradation. The result is an album radiating a dark and abrasive, yet ethereal energy.
Created entirely independently by Stephen Lawrie in a remote cottage in West Yorkshire January-May 2022, the record was made with broken toys and cheap synths - mostly Pocket Operators and miniature synths, with no guitars. The complexity of sound rests within the simplicity of the composition and musical arrangements.
Features bonus remixes by Black Market Karma and Mosaic Runes.

 DODGE JONES RAGE - 'West Coast Power Outage V' CD (Absurd Exposition) - £11.50
The Dodge Jones Rage power-trio was started in late 2021 as a pandemic-driven experimental-noise-audio collaboration by three long-time grizzled noise veterans. With previous releases on Absurd Exposition, Charnel Music, Phage Tapes, and !MONDO ANTHEM!, this fifth "West Coast Power Outage" release is another chapter in their widely-varying noise saga. There are deconstructed distorto-rumbles, fragmenting cracks in the noise, blasted peeks into alternate universes of broken-down machinery overlords and curious exo-alien tourists on expired visas listening to 80's Moroccan mix tapes with dying AA batteries. You'll also find wall-of-noise covered with ivy-like tendrils of squeals, punches, and cinematic waves of sound. Sometimes there are comparatively calm glacier-like slabs of atmospherics made of punishing layers of ooze. Perhaps most often, confusing, mind-melting caverns of bliss, psychedelic collections of puzzling, rumbling, hissing sounds as if from inside the multiversal computer as it finally breaks down and comes to a halt.  FILIVS MACROCOSMI & CHARADRIIFORM - 'Form And Void' Cassette (OMS Records) - £12
The Emptiness finally took form. Collaborative Dark Ambient / Drone isolationism from two Ukrainian projects: Filivs Macrocosmi (the late Sergey Svistelnik, ex-In Meditarium), and Charadriiform (c2h4n), with Nikolay Oorzhak (Republic of Tuva) as guest. This album was some of the very last material from Sergey, released just 2 weeks before his passing. Four longform tracks (18:20 per side). "Most of the compositions are based on samples from Nikolai Oorzhak (throat singing, tambourines, etc.). But this does not turn music into another superficial treatment of the ritual songs of the peoples of Siberia. Instead, all these shamanic things are organically "woven" into classic dark-ambient backings, which gives birth to rather unique material. Everything is perceived very meditatively, although the music is fundamentally different from "meditative" creations in the traditional sense" (UA Drone). "H2T" is surprisingly the first Knurl album recorded in a professional studio (Hotel2 Tango, run by Godspeed You! Black Emperor). It features unreleased material from 2001, with the sounds produced using a car spring, fan blade, and a handfile. "Like a Freight Train crashing blistered frequencies through my house against rip-roaring distortion tearing apart the air and house tumbling down feedback rumble drone attack as the train just keeps plowing through. F**k yeah, Train!! Lots of movement, never static, but not fast, giving time for really absorbing and enjoying the destruction of sounds. Bonus points for an awesome cover" (Happiness, Forever). Knurl's harsh noise is formulated by the give-and-take of restraint and control. With his alter-ego as Pholde, Canada's Alan Bloor uses these same techniques to create ambient soundscapes of metallic timbres, rich with the tactility of their found metal sources. "Imagine sticking your head inside a gigantic, 50 meter-wide cymbal as giants and dwarves run their hands around its surfaces, extracting every sound it can produce. CD reissue of the 2019 LP from Vancouver's RUSALKA.
Kate Rissiek has been a mainstay of the west coast Canadian harsh noise scene since 200, with a formidable body of work; from solo releases on stalwart labels such as New Forces, to splits with the likes of MK9, The Rita, and Primitive Isolation Tactics, and a compilation appearance on heavy electronics powerhouse Tesco Organisation. "Base Waters" showcases an artist dedicated to their craft and at the top of their game. This is a much-deserved reissue from one of the most consistent and ever-improving noise acts of our time. IIIrd Gatekeeper served up a skulldozing dose of post-industrial dirge rock that sat comfortably next to Godflesh, Swans, and Ramleh in terms of dark, druggy, hypnotic lumbering heaviness. Using a theremin as a centerpiece, Rusalka leads us straight into a harsh noise odyssey of oceanic depths - but something is lurking beneath the waves. It's dark. Fog horns sound.  SKULLFLOWER - 'IIIrd Gatekeeper' 2 x LP (Dirter) - £29
An exclusive double vinyl reissue of Skullflower's epochal "IIrd Gatekeeper" album. Originally released on Justin Broadrick's (GODFLESH) hEADdIRt Recordings label in 1992, this is the first time that the record has been available on vinyl for 30 years. This definitive and expanded edition includes extra and unreleased tracks taken from the original recording sessions. For the first time all the tracks from this period can be heard together giving unprecedented access to material previously only available in the band's archives. ecorded in London in 1991, "IIIrd Gatekeeper" had its roots deep in the UK noise and Power Electronics scene. Graduates of the Broken Flag school of British noise-making, Skullflower's third album featured the line-up of: Matthew Bower (Total, Black Sun Roof!, The Hototogisu, Voltigeurs etc), Anthony Di Franco (Ramleh, JFK, Novatron, AX etc), and Stuart Dennison (Ramleh). This is Skullflower at their heaviest, grinding out slow, sludgy riffs and crushing, almost industrial rhythms amid a tempest of psychedelic guitar noise and dense sheets of feedback - easily the most crushing, rock-based music that Skullflower ever produced. A new outlet by Asmus Tietchens for musical endeavors that are more formula or genre based. The four long-form tracks of "Diskretion" explore ambient music in the broadest sense of the term. Dense layers, slow dynamic progression, with moody atmospheres. Here Tietchens articulated his musical interests clearly: everyday noises were treated and at times deformed beyond recognition and placed into new contexts. Until now German artist Asmus Tietchens has released more than 80 albums on international labels where he continues to explore the possibilities presented to him by specific sound sources (ranging from water sounds to pure sine wave tones). His work is rooted in a deeply sceptic gesture, marked by frequent quotes from the works of philosopher E.M. Cioran on his album covers. Ltd x 300 copies in a digipak designed by Tietchens. |

All 12 tracks, including the remastering of "Mistress", used in the legendary "Enoshima Beach Flexi Burning Live" (which they said they would release, but changed their minds after pressing and decided to burn it). Constructed over a period of two years via mail, this is a great and forceful collaboration between two artists that each have made a name for themselves with their unique approach to making sound. KK NULL is a master of feedback studies, working with looped scenarios to create dense and vital sound units. He has a long history as an experimental musician and is also the leading force behind proto-metal-group Zeni Geva and the dark-industrial project Absolut Null Punkt. John Wiese is known for collabs with such acts as Wolf Eyes and Sunn O))), but also as a graphic designer in high demand and founder of noise groups Sissy Spacek, LHD, and Smegma. Usually he creates fragile but very erruptive lo-fi noise rumblings with an almost poetic touch. Both artists here combine the best of both their worlds in this crunching release! Now, for the first time on double CD (84 mins), the entire recording is released on two discs as a completely new and final form of sound image.  VARIOUS ARTISTS - 'Epitaph For John' CD (Korm Plastics) - £11
A tribute compilation to the late experimental / industrial sound artist John Watermann, with Asmus Tietchens, Ralf Wehowsky, Merzbow, Freiband, with source material from Watermann himself. Over the course of his life John Watermann worked with almost every conceivable artistic medium. In many ways, he was the epitome of the 'total artist'; almost every element of his life being in some way his own artistic project, influencing many prominent sonic alchemists. As a young man in his native Germany he worked as a photographer and documentary filmmaker, also etching, painting and writing. After relocating to Australia, he worked as a jeweller, continuing to write, paint, and sculpt, finally settling in Brisbane where he began to produce his music. John Watermann died in April 2002, leaving vast plans for future projects, including a collaboration with Frans de Waard, who gathered artists who had worked with John to create the resulting material here. Packaged in a pair of 6"x6" printed cardboard covers with six paper inserts. |

Recorded on a portable four-track in 1987, "Crematorius" captures a raw and unfiltered glimpse into the early creative explorations of one of the genre's most influential figures. This project predates even the formation of the iconic black industrial group MZ.412, offering a unique perspective on Nordvargr's artistic evolution, hinting at the industrial mastery that he would later achieve. As one of the earliest industrial-oriented projects in his repertoire, the album showcases the young artist's experimental spirit. A mosaic of raw and unrefined sonic experimentation - primitive industrial textures, elements of distortion, manipulated samples, and unconventional rhythms. The sonic imperfections add to the authenticity, taking you back to a time when artists sculpted sound with limited resources and limitless creativity. The remastering process by Lasse Marhaug elevates these tracks to new heights.  INADE - 'Antimimon Pneumatos' CD (Loki Foundation) - £11.50
Originally released in 2011 as limited edition boxset with t-shirt (Ltd 300) from Germany's Dark Ambient masters Inade, "Antimimon Pneumatos" collects some of the most powerful moments in their live performance history. Well-known tracks in expanded live versions and unreleased material were recorded on multi-track and mastered by Andreas Wahnmann at Secretlab to match the extraordinary standards of the studio recordings. The material for "Antimimon Pneumatos" was recorded during 2009-2010 in Paris, Moscow, Wuppertal, Turku and Leipzig. Presented for the first time in a 'regular' edition, in a 6-panel digisleeve with rejuvenated artwork. Highly recommended! |
 MAURIZIO BIANCHI - 'Absurdum' CD (St.An.Da. / Silentes) - £12
Long-awaited reissue of an extremely limited 3LP set from 2016 (just 17 copies!). "Absurdum" began as a series of writings by Italian Industrial / Noise legend Maurizio BIanchi entitled "Dissections". These 16 texts are now featured inside the poster cover that includes the CD of the entire work. Six lengthy works of various approaches such as noise, cold and heavy continuous sound emissions, digital noise with strange intonations that rolls around. This album was previously released in 2023 as an 'Art Edition' which came with a fake 7". This 2024 edition is limited to 111 copies in a 6" package containing the CD in poster cover (A3 size). |

Finnish harsh noise artist Rotat returns to Freak Animal with a brand new studio album after multiple great CDs released on international labels such as Rural Isolation, OFR, and Dunkelheit Prods. An album's worth of straight forward harsh noise, very much for fans of their previous FA release, "Grease District". Rotat started off in 2015 doing obscure hand assembled tapes. His early works were influenced by names like Taint and Smell & Quim, mixing utmost vile perversion with demented humour. Recent works have seen Rotat evolve with well-crafted razor-sharp harsh noise, walls of filth and ripping feedback, and blocks of brutish sound. Comes in a 6-panel digisleeve. |

New CD edition of the very limited (100 copies) 2023 LP. Nearly 4 years after its groundbreaking debut full length "Secrets From A Distant Star", the mysterious Power Electronics entity Bell returns with a new mini-CD aptly titled "Enigma Calling". Weighing in heavily on its early Berlin electronics influences, Bell's current material dwells on the ruins and embers of post WWII Germany, the Enigma Machine, missile technology and the emergence of bizarre religious cults. Rhythmic, pulsating, trance inducing, "Enigma Calling" builds layer upon layer of humming distortion, arpeggiators and sequencers with subdued percussion in a manner that only Bell can. Serpents is a journey into otherworldly, strange, and uncomfortable places. Pulsating, ritualistic, clairvoyant, and dark. Karyn Crisis and Luciano Lamanna have coiled together to form Serpents, their new ritual dark ambient / experimental electronics project.
Karyn Crisis, a pioneer vocalist in the field of metal music since 1993, is known for her far-reaching vocal range; from demon growls to angelic croons and most everything in between. In Serpents, she explores the hypnotic and repetitive nature of charged words and a stripped-down melodic vocal expression, weaving sonic spells that are no less weird than her vocals for her former band of 13 years Crisis, guest vocals for Italy's Ephel Duath, and her current band Gospel Of The Witches. Luciano Lamanna is a sound engineer, DJ producer and remixer, adding his touch on collaborations such as ADSR SPQR, Balance, Der Noir and Creta. His strength thus lies in the puzzle of sounds which is the fruit of the most desperate of experiences from techno, industrial, wave and electronic - all of which are knowledgeably tessellated through the art of improvisation.  FALLEN SUN - 'Beyond The Flat Earth' CD (Fourth Dimension) - £11.50
Debut album from Fallen Sun, the noise/industrial moniker of Reverse Image from Malaysia, who approaches the creation of noise music through the layering of sonic textures aligned with a sense of space and movement. Using HNW as distant inspiration, she takes the seed of an idea and expands and contracts it, before further compressing and then twisting it, layer upon layer, until the idea has morphed into itself. The tracks explore this perpetual movement of noise, each with its own spine, the total auditory fabric of the music presents a gothic beauty to submerse oneself. The sounds deployed are often frazzled, abstract, complex and restless, akin to a full-on blazing attack that displays just enough restraint and occasional rhythmic prowess to avoid reaching a Merzbow-type meltdown. A great exploration of the nuanced power of intensity in several forms, focusing more on sonic arrangements than anything overtly primal. Ltd x 300 copies in a digipak. |

On their fifth album, Finnish harsh noisers The New Boyfriends explore the universal phenomenon of sound. Everything started with a big bang, which still echoes and vibrates through eternity, creating the most crucial thing in existence called Noise. It was recorded in various locations, from rural countryside to the deepest forests and freshest streams.  SAVERIO ROSI & TEZ - 'Rote Um Format' CD (Backwards) - £11.50
A fortunate and successful meeting "between the romantic and the analytical, the sentimental and the Pragmatic". This double soul lives inside the ambient-electronics contained in "Rote Um", the debut album by the artistic partnership between TeZ (Maurizio Martinucci, member of Clock DVA since 2010) and Saverio Rosi (aka Leastupperbound and member of the band Open To The Sea with Enrico Coniglio and Matteo UIggeri). Both Italian composers based in Amsterdam, TeZ and Rosi top a ten-year friendship by exchanging their musical skin to generate eight gems of great intensity, divided between icy dronic expanses and warm electroacoustic embraces. The main feature of "Rote Um" is its complementarity: Rosi's analogue experiments, imbued with low-fi and field-recording, are nestled in the endless digital landscapes, with cold hues and full of hypnagogic sensations, painted by TeZ. All this gives birth to a synesthetic and touching experience, halfway between the moody ambient by Labradford and the nocturnal abstractionism by Mirt. Mastered by Giuseppe Ielasi.
