Step into the shadows of ancient mysticism as Llyn Y Cwn, the maestro of Welsh dark ambient, unveils the mesmerising odyssey that is "Megaliths".
A profound exploration of the sacred resonance embedded within stone circles, capturing years of field recordings from the silent and enigmatic monuments that stand as timeless witnesses to the ebb and flow of existence.
Ben Powell has crafted a sonic voyage that mirrors the sacred spaces marked by stoic pillars of rock, each track representing a specific site. Delving deep into the esoteric significance of stone circles, the album portrays these structures not merely as historical relics but as religious ceremonial sites where the veil between our world and the eternal realm becomes tantalisingly thin.
Extracting ambient soundscapes from burial chambers, Ben has utilised convolution reverbs to replicate the ominous ambiance of these ancient spaces. A veteran of stone circle exploration, Ben's decades-long journey has yielded field recordings that capture the haunting whispers of wind and the solemn caws of crows, enveloping the listener in a ghostly atmosphere that transcends the ordinary.
Guided by the wisdom found in Julian Cope's "The Modern Antiquarian" and Aurbrey Burl's "A Guide to the Stone Circles of Britain", Llyn Y Cwn embarks on a sonic pilgrimage across the country, exploring the remote bleakness of these sites. The album transitions from the cramped, gloomy chambers of tombs to the unroofed, wide rings - a journey from darkness to light, from the dead to the living, and from the grave to the sky.
"Megaliths" is a ritual, a sonic séance that beckons listeners to commune with the ancient energies that saturate these sacred circles - an atmospheric descent into the heart of mysterious realms, where the boundaries between the earthly and the spiritual blur into an indistinguishable, haunting atmosphere. "We may not speak the same language, but in the vortex of sound, there's a raw, primal understanding that transcends words. Noise can be art, a visual representation could maybe be Jackson Pollock's No 5, a plexus of chaos redefining what music can and could be. Pushing boundaries with Masami wasn't just a musical adventure, it was a masterclass in sonic anarchy" (Jack Dangers, January 2024).
"Extinct" sees the duo take listeners on a transcendental journey, focusing on the dismantling of beat and structure and recycling the result through layers of beautifully crafted noise and feedback loops, giving birth to new rhythms buried deep in the dirt.
The 20 minute opener '!FLAKKA¡' takes constantly evolving breakbeats which are gradually broken down over time, driven through a filter of harsh noise, destroying the old to give birth to the new. Raw and unforgiving, the track is a behemoth that blends mutant forms of broken beats and hints of dub, creating rhythmic noise of the highest calibre in the process.
'Burner' takes the record to its ultimate conclusion, the initial drum beat broken down so that it is barely recognisable. Pulsating distortion and high end audio fragments bleed into each other as the track lumbers forth and destroys everything in its path before slowly unravelling, degrading and falling apart.

CORRUPTED - 'Felicific Algorithm / Mushikeras'

Corrupted is a mysterious Japanese doom metal band, formed in 1994. Immensely downtuned guitar and crushingly slow bass are shrouded under deep layers of feedback. They are rightly hailed as one of the heaviest and darkest doom metal bands of all time.
This is not a simple reissue of the 2018 multi-speed, vinyl-only release "Felicific Algorithim" (Cold Spring). Though the first two tracks were created using the same field recordings / source material captured in Amagasaki, Osaka, and Fukushima, the tracks have been carefully reworked into a much darker sound. The new track titles 'Felicific Algiorithm' and 'Felicific Aligorithm' reflect this; like a mind virus appearing the same at first glance.
The 27-minute track 'Mushikeras' was recorded 2022-23 as a four-piece line-up of Kaz Mike (howling guitar and bass), Rie Lambdoll (vocal and bass), Mark Y. (guitar and bass), and Chew (drum and high carbon steel). A self-released digital-only track in autumn '23, this is the first physical manifestation of this doom metal behemoth, full of loud sludge, funeral dirge, haunting whispers / howling harsh vocals, and atmospheric build-ups.

LULL - 'Journey Through Underworlds'

The classic, genre-defining 1993 album from LULL - the pioneering, isolationist dark ambient project of MICK HARRIS of SCORN, FRET, ex-NAPALM DEATH - is a dark journey through the Stygian netherworlds of Hell.
The listener is left with the impression of a final escape into reality; a return upon waking, with only wispy trace memories and the heavy rush of blood-pumping fear as a keepsake.
With this album, we are plunged back into a dark pit of noise - all escape barred, all hope dashed. The nightmare continues, the journey through underworlds descends deeper. These are soundtracks for Nightmares. Despite there being just three tracks on the album, it lasts just shy of 75 minutes.
Originally released on Sentrax (the label of the late John Everall / Tactile), the CD suffered the 'disc rot' fate of many PDO pressings from 1988-1993, rendering most of that initial run unplayable.
Mixed by Justin K Broadrick (GODFLESH). Remastered by Martin Bowes (The Cage Studios) from the original recordings supplied by Mick Harris.

The new Sonologyst "sonic documentary" delves into the secretive realm of shortwave transmissions; a chronicle of clandestine shortwave transmissions culled from a span of nearly four decades (1982-2021). These mysterious transmissions - repetitive voices, signals, sound pulses, short pieces of music - were collated and edited to compose the tracks of the main album.
Immersed in an isolating fog of dark ambient, deep drone music and cinematic sound art, originating from covert radio stations engaged in military and espionage endeavours, the tracks unveil a hidden sonic landscape of strategic communication.
The second disc, in its extensive presentation, provides a deeper immersion into these enigmatic broadcasts. Each recording remains unaltered, accompanied only by a ghostly drone. An unfiltered glimpse into the world of clandestine communication.

The latest chapter in The Telescopes' idiosyncratic exploration of sound combines hallucinatory ballads with transcendent melodies, clanging, and lo-fi buzzes, with a substantial amount of crushing and sound degradation. The result is an album radiating a dark and abrasive, yet ethereal energy.
Created entirely independently by Stephen Lawrie in a remote cottage in West Yorkshire January-May 2022, the record was made with broken toys and cheap synths - mostly Pocket Operators and miniature synths, with no guitars. The complexity of sound rests within the simplicity of the composition and musical arrangements.
Features bonus remixes by Black Market Karma and Mosaic Runes.

Brandkommando (Karol Wachowski's project), in its characteristic way, contests totalitarianism, this time referring to the turbulent history of the rise of the communist regime of J. Tito, which ruled undivided for many years, using terror against the community living in the then Yugoslavia. The musician uses a means of expression typical of industrial style, close to the aesthetics of Power Electronics / Noise. Numerous quotations and samples from which the thematic outline emerges are subjected to numerous modifications and deconstructions, thus exposing the falsehood of the political manifestos and stripping the pathos and seriousness of these false and devalued ideas, which only serve to implement the tasks of the then authorities.  CRANIOCLAST - 'A Con Cristal / Rats Can Coil - Cats Can Roil / Accidental Encounter Of Rats And Cats On A Turntable' CD (13 / Silentes) - £12
"A Con Cristal", the third Cranioclast album or rather EP from 1987, and "Rats Can Coil - Cats Can Roil" from 1990, have been digitised for the first time and are now brought together on one CD. This disc also offers three new tracks (30 mins in total) based on "Rats - Cats" under the name "Accidental Encounter Of Rats And Cats On A Turntable". "A Con Cristal" deals with bunkers, especially along the European coasts, mainly not in their original function during WWII, but in their post-functional appearance as bizzare sculptures or relics of long-dead cultures, architecture of aggression and more. "Rats Can Coil - Cats Can Roil" already sounds like rock 'n' roll in the words and is it or isn't it or is it or not? But the rats and cats are dancing. Accidental encounter of rats and cats on a turntable transforms Rats - Cats into Metal. Into Drone Metal of course or doesn't or does or... But the dogs like that, as was to be expected. This is perhaps the Cranioclast album with the most guest musicians and the greatest blending of acoustic or 'conventional' instruments, electronics and field recordings, sometimes with echoes of ancient music. Words about music and sounds are like words about wine and, in this case, old wine. So there should only be few words (on music) - as always with Cranioclast. Factor X is Shaun Robert - a veteran of the tape scene since the mid-80's. As well as releasing a plethora of solo cassettes, he has also collaborated with many luminaries of the time including Sudden Infant, Suzuki Shunya, Telepherique, and Runzelstirn & Gurgelstøck. Shaun also records as Mutant Beatniks. This 24-minute CD is a re-release of a very limited cassette put out by English Yoni in 1991. It is an approximate interpretation of the J.G.  HANDFUL OF SNOWDROPS - 'Land Of The Damned (35th Anniversary Edition)' CD (Twilight Records) - £12
To celebrate its 35th anniversary, Handful Of Snowdrops' seminal first album, 'Land Of The Damned' is available on CD for the first time in nearly 15 years. Handful Of Snowdrops are a pioneer band in the Canadian Electronic New Wave / Coldwave scene and its debut has reached near mythical status. This reissue features 6 additional tracks, including 2 never-before-released on CD demos from 1985 - 'Face To Face' and 'The Keep' - in addition to the original 8 tracks. In 1986, the third lineup of the band consisting of Michel Mercier, Jean-Pierre, Christian Lefebvre, and Michel Plamondon, recorded a four-track demo containing what would to become their most famous song, 'Gabrielle'. These four tracks would become the basis for their first album, 1988's 'Land Of The Damned', the first and only release on the short-lived Montreal independent label Lisp. Their editor would later take this recording to New York City, where he met with Woodrow Dumas of Louisiana's C'est La Mort Records (Controlled Bleeding, Area), who offered to release "Land of the Damned" in the U.S. two years later. The rest, as they say, is history. Digipak. |
 JUNKYARD SHAMAN - 'Silence, Then Pause' CD (Kohina Records) - £12
A noirish album of dark jazz / ambient from electric wastelands, junkyards and abandoned cities; a mental junkyard of evaporating dreams, disintegrating memories and fading recollections. Junkyard Shaman is the solo project of Finnish artist Jere Kilpinen who resides in Osaka, Japan. This particular album was composed after Twin Peaks season 3 was aired. Jere took lots of inspiration from this and composed a dark jazz / ambient noir album. While differing from the usual Junkyard Shaman sound, this album also differs from other records of that particular genre in that it also features Jere's self-built instruments. Dark, unique, and chilling. Digipak.

 MARCO BERTONI - 'My Easy Piano Pieces (A Ridiculous Legacy)' CD (13 / Silentes) - £12
Marco Bertoni is a musician, composer and producer from Bologna, and protagonist of the Italian new wave of '77. This is a collection of pieces of music that he has written since he was 15 years old. Over time they have been kept locked in a drawer but never forgotten. Some of them have been used for songs by the Confusional Quartet, or published on his first solo album "18/8/81" (1999, Elica), or on the compilation "Mission Is Terminated / Nice Tracks" with Throbbing Gristle (1983, Nice Label), or in the more recent release "Wrong Ninna Nanna" created with Franco Bifo Berardi, Lydia Lunch and Bobby Gillespie (2020, 42 Records). Each song is accompanied by a video by Filippo Janez Bertoni and poetic fragments by Franco Bifo Berardi. The graphics are by Stefano Gentile. The pieces were recorded at the Bologna Conservatory in 2023. Ltd x 250 copies in a 20-page, 15x15cm art and lyric booklet. |
 MODUS - 'Domus' CD (13 / Silentes) - £12
Modus is an intricate experiment of a five-headed Cerberus; a psychic liaison where each of the components has joined in with its own individual heritage and abilities. A simple empathetic trigger was all that was needed, and the paths of Giulio Aldinucci, Emanuele Errante, Luigi Ferrara, Maurizio Martinucci (TeZ), and Fabio Orsi combined in an absolutely natural way to come together in the abstract "Domus", ideally built by this combo. The composers, all veterans of the electronic scene born at the beginning of the millennium can boast decades-long experience in the field and in this way today they contemplate the demise of post-digital culture. The ensemble adopted a compositional method specifically designed in such a way that everyone could influence the collective and be permeated by it in turn, and thus the particles were mixed into a molecular cloud, a rational and unpredictable sound object, an amalgam that is both organic and complex at the same time. "Domus" is like a river fed by five tributaries that flows fluidly through forty minutes of pure, multifaceted and dynamic electronic sound expressed in two long cinematic suites that alternate between dilation, dense textures and the physics of rhythm. The new release from Paranoia Inducta is a concept album filled with magic, mysticism and esotericism, rooted in both the virtual and real worlds. Over 50 minutes of mystery: this is addictive and terrifying dark ambient / hypnotic death industrial / ritual drone music bringing to mind dusty distant planets, ritualistic temples and apocalyptic death cults. The album is a little unusual and different from the usual Paranoia Inducta style. "The pre-Socratic Greek philosopher Parmenides taught that the only things that are real are things which never change...
and the pre-Socratic Greek philosopher Heraclitus taught that everything changes. If you superimpose their two views, you get this result: Nothing is real" (Philip K. Dick). Uton is an experimental music and noise project by Finnish artist Jani Hirvonen, best known recently for his harsh noise project Yksi. Active since 2001, Uton has released just shy of 100 albums, among which are collaborations with the likes of Anla Courtis, Campbell Kneale, Valerio Cosi, Creation VI, Bardo Todol, Yoshihiro Kikuchi, Head Boggle, and Clay Figure. On this new album Uton dives into the psychedelic and experimental electronic sea, with improvised acoustic and electric instruments, and "studio trick" additions. 57 minutes of slow and colourful soundreams to the other realm within.  WHITE STAINS - 'Dreams Shall Flesh (Redux)' CD (Zoharum) - £11.50
"Dreams Shall Flesh" was the second studio album in White Stains' discography, originally released in 1991 (Psychick Release PCP). This "Redux" edition has been enriched with bonus recordings, found in Carl Abrahamsson's (Cotton Ferox) private archive, which have never been published before. We are still dealing here with Darkwave music with elements of Goth Rock. However, a new direction is increasingly felt here, which would be fully developed over the following albums. In these songs with a 'typical' song structure, there is more space for a slightly atmospheric, slightly psychedelic aura, which is reflected in the final sound that the band achieved on this material. This is especially noticeable on the additional songs, which perfectly complement this new version. The material has been remastered again and has a new graphic design. We don't listen to this music because it's beautiful. Edley ODowd has collaborated and performed with many musical luminaries such as Genesis P-Orridge, Deborah Harry, Lene Lovich, Tony Conrad, and Shilpa Ray, as well as being a member of Toilet Boys, Psychic TV, Kylesa and Scorpion Tea. "I wanted to create something of nightmares and bliss" ODowd says of the combination of visuals and sound presented on his latest solo release; an hour-long trance-inducing trip through industrial / noise, dark ambient and experimental soundscapes. Initially an ultra-limited cassette release via Flesh Prison/DeathBed Tapes, "F(OUR) WARD" is now presented in an extended, complete version featuring three bonus tracks and expanded artwork. Talking about the unity of two inseparable components of his creativity: "the video clips that accompany these songs are designed to be trance-induced launch pads for the audio and vice-versa... The sixth studio album by Polish group Schröttersburg is filled with atonal, psychedelic tribal Industrial based on Noise and dark New Wave textures. The trance, the rhythm of the falling city, begins a transfer ritual to the core of the Earth - the place of creation and birth of everything. Arranged and recorded by a four-piece band with which the musicians have been performing for a long time has resulted in a new, slightly different sound than before. "Kosmogonia" is the heaviest material in the output of Schröttersburg, along with a natural change resulting from constant musical exploration, begun where the last sounds of "Om Shanti Om" left off, dispersing into new, previously unexplored directions. Schröttersburg is well known to post-punk fans due to three well received albums and a no nonsense demo. What makes them different from other bands is their ability to incorporate other musical genres while maintaining the new wave core. Here post-punk meets kraut / space / psychedelic or even noise rock and shoegaze. Those broad interests pushed the band towards experiments where they invited friends who reinterpreted the songs from the "Melancholia" album, resulting in "Melancholia • Dekonstrukcje": TZII, MIRT, 1997EV, GAAP KVLT, PIOTR DABROWSI (Warsaw Improvisers Orchestra), VILKDUJA (Oorchach), AME DE BOUE, and FLEUVE. The new versions of songs range from trip hop, through traces of electro, industrial, experimental (think of shogaze black metal) psychedelia and mesmerising, trance inducing sounds. The material here from Schröttersburg was created in a very short time compared to the previous album "Dalet". Unable to participate in concerts during lockdown, the musicians hid in their rehearsal room and began experimenting, using various instruments that hadn't been used before - including sheet metal, kalimba, oil barrels, djembe, karatala, Aztec whistle death. They have thus enriched their existing sound, opening them up to even bolder explorations of new sonic regions, sometimes significantly different from their main previous style. Using New Wave as a starting point the band start their escape to other regions / genres, leaving a lot of space for the musical traditions of India or the Middle East. The marriage of their music with psychedelic post-rock and Krautrock is even more clearly felt, building strong compositions in the spirit of industrial aesthetics. "Om Shanti Om" it is also a journey inside the band themselves; their spirituality and extrasensory states. The idea behind the creation of this material was to create a specific mantra cleansing the mind and body from bad energy. Music to think of an unknown continent, to look for the lost alchemical formula, to eventually discover Talos the robot hurling rocks at the Argonauts. Music that requires to do nothing but listen, a task that nowadays appears almost impossible. The message is conveyed in an imagined language from a terra incognita, the lingua ignota. Two miraculous NG takes of the popular "first song on B-side" are also released here for the first time. All 12 tracks, including the remastering of "Mistress", used in the legendary "Enoshima Beach Flexi Burning Live" (which they said they would release, but changed their minds after pressing and decided to burn it). An exclusive double vinyl reissue of Skullflower's epochal "IIrd Gatekeeper" album. Originally released on Justin Broadrick's (GODFLESH) hEADdIRt Recordings label in 1992, this is the first time that the record has been available on vinyl for 30 years. This definitive and expanded edition includes extra and unreleased tracks taken from the original recording sessions. For the first time all the tracks from this period can be heard together giving unprecedented access to material previously only available in the band's archives. ecorded in London in 1991, "IIIrd Gatekeeper" had its roots deep in the UK noise and Power Electronics scene. Graduates of the Broken Flag school of British noise-making, Skullflower's third album featured the line-up of: Matthew Bower (Total, Black Sun Roof!, The Hototogisu, Voltigeurs etc), Anthony Di Franco (Ramleh, JFK, Novatron, AX etc), and Stuart Dennison (Ramleh). This is Skullflower at their heaviest, grinding out slow, sludgy riffs and crushing, almost industrial rhythms amid a tempest of psychedelic guitar noise and dense sheets of feedback - easily the most crushing, rock-based music that Skullflower ever produced. Corbelli drew inspiration from a diverse tapestry that spans the eerie ambience of Cold Meat Industry's early releases, the unsettling surrealism of Gothic literature, ritualistic mysticism, until to the cinematic visions of directors Ken Russell and Amando De Ossorio Through dissonant soundscapes, Corbelli intricately wove together influences that evoked discomfort, morbid fascination, introspection, and a mesmerising sense of dread.
Employing innovative techniques and meticulous aural manipulations, Kranivm unfurls an atmosphere teeming with unease. This release honours an artist who courageously delved into darkness, shaping the trajectory of dark ambient and experimental death music's evolution. Remastered by Andrea Marutti. Here Tietchens articulated his musical interests clearly: everyday noises were treated and at times deformed beyond recognition and placed into new contexts. Until now German artist Asmus Tietchens has released more than 80 albums on international labels where he continues to explore the possibilities presented to him by specific sound sources (ranging from water sounds to pure sine wave tones). The Emptiness finally took form. Collaborative Dark Ambient / Drone isolationism from two Ukrainian projects: Filivs Macrocosmi (the late Sergey Svistelnik, ex-In Meditarium), and Charadriiform (c2h4n), with Nikolay Oorzhak (Republic of Tuva) as guest. This album was some of the very last material from Sergey, released just 2 weeks before his passing. Four longform tracks (18:20 per side). "Most of the compositions are based on samples from Nikolai Oorzhak (throat singing, tambourines, etc.). But this does not turn music into another superficial treatment of the ritual songs of the peoples of Siberia. Instead, all these shamanic things are organically "woven" into classic dark-ambient backings, which gives birth to rather unique material. Everything is perceived very meditatively, although the music is fundamentally different from "meditative" creations in the traditional sense" (UA Drone).
