The 5th album from Birmingham-based industrial/doom metal band Khost sees the band forging new and at times nightmarish territories, alongside their signature walls of detuned guitar, corroded percussion and VHS atmospherics.

Inspiration for many of the tracks came from countless live shows and even soundcheck experiments in which extreme, harsh electronics evolved, as did punk/early industrial tempos, all of which were then fused into the DNA of "Many Things Afflict Us Few Things Console Us".

Khost remark: "We hoped that the experience would be something like venturing into an off-limits wing of some gallery after-hours, with each turn more disorientating than where you just were".

Collaborators include AXEBREAKER (aka Terence Hannum of Locrian), acclaimed cellist JO QUAIL, and Berlin-based sound designer MANUEL LIEBESKIND.

The CD and the vinyl are different beasts. The CD is reinforced with 7 extra tracks including ADRIAN STAINBURNER's incredible remix of 'Yellow Light' featuring STEPHEN MALLINDER (Cabaret Voltaire, Wrangler) on vocals, and BERENECES adding his signature deep, dark D&B sound to the track 'Death Threat'. The LP editions feature a different mix by Khost especially for vinyl.

Tumble back into the nebulous and murky psychedelic haze of 70's-80's VHS horror!

Explore grimy palimpsests from the film studio to the grindhouse with 400 Lonely Things in "The New Twilight": eleven creepy yet sublime analogue microdoses of vintage genre and exploitation audio sampled and filtered through the darkly ambient, melodically droning, melancholic nerd soul.

It's been said by many over the years that Horror is the most flexible genre. So many ideas, themes, and styles flow through it. Craig Varian of 400 Lonely Things has spent a half-century on earth exploring almost all of it, and finds a particular sweet spot in the glut of films released in the VHS boom of the 80's.

Varian developed a fascination for the worlds of sound revealed by audio sampling after first encountering an Ensoniq Mirage in the 1980s. While he found sampling music interesting and often surprising, it was the overlooked moments in the audio environments of horror films in particular that seemed to provide the most fertile wealth of inexplicably sublime material. More often than not, samples from these sources seemed eager to twist themselves into moments of smeary, effusive beauty and when looped and treated, often veered directly into mysterious assemblies of warm melancholia - meditative poetics that were never implied in their lurid lo-fi grindhouse presentations. And, of course, sometimes they were just creepy.

While a couple previous releases by 400 Lonely Things in this realm have focused on specific film-titles (2008's "Tonight Of The Living Dead" and 2022's "Nigths And Profecy") with similar results, their 17th album "The New Twilight" is the first 400 Lonely Things release to take a slight step back to widen that perspective a bit, to focus on the overall genre itself. With the exception of one single track, each song (and song title) is sourced from a single film.

To further this theme, the chronologically ordered booklet included in the physical packaging (and digital booklet included with Bandcamp purchases) uses the same techniques to extract a hazy and dreamlike visual reference from the murky celluloid sources.

"Broken Allures", the fifth LP from trio Jac Berrocal, David Fenech, and Vincent Epplay (following releases on Blackest Ever Black, Akuphone, KlangGalerie), furthers their unique recording style with a musique concrète approach to mixing, characterized by the distinctive sound and technique of musicians and producers. Fenech and Epplay have paired with legendary French musician Berrocal, renowned for his collaborations with Nurse With Wound, Vince Taylor, Jaki Liebezeit, Pascal Comelade, Sunny Murray etc. "Broken Allures" is arguably their most coherent and fully accomplished album to date.

For this album, the trio has invited two fantastic musicians to compose with them: COSEY FANNI TUTTI and JAH WOBBLE.

COSEY FANNI TUTTI (Throbbing Gristle, Chris & Cosey, COUM Transmissions) contributes vocals, cornet, and electric guitar in her unique style. She has also written lyrics for two tracks on the album and brings a radical touch to the instrumental track 'Viva la Hacienda', which, in her own words, recalls her time recording with Throbbing Gristle.

JAH WOBBLE (founding member of Public Image Limited, and collaborator with African Head Charge, Brian Eno, Björk, Holger Czukay, Jaki Liebezeit, Bill Laswell, Primal Scream, Evan Parker, Sinéad O'Connor etc) plays a deep bass line on one track. He adds his signature industrial dub sound, with deep sub-bass frequencies.

The Totality Of Death compiles 20 songs from past limited-edition releases, digital compilations, and the most obscure recesses of the T × R × P archive. The material - reworked and remastered in 2024 e.v. - is spread over two separate compact discs, transmitted by ᚦᛟᚦ ᚷᛁᚷ and ᚾᛟᚺ ⩝⚭⩝ respectively.

The CDs feature different, intricately-designed artwork throughout, and are beautifully presented in reverseboard, flood-printed, 6-panel digipaks, each coming with an exclusive artcard when bought direct from Cold Spring or the artist.

The t-shirts, which come in red and army green mirroring the CD artwork, feature two-colour screenprinted designs on Gildan SoftStyle.

CAROLINE K - 'Now Wait For Last Year' LP + Poster (Old Captain / 4iB Records / Narcolepsia) - £26

Extremely limited vinyl reissue of a much-requested and sought-after title! Caroline K was a co-founder of the legendary UK Industrial groups The Pump and Nocturnal Emissions. She played on albums like "Tissue Of Lies", "Befehlsnotstand" and "Shake Those Chains Rattle Those Cages". She was also responsible for the legendary Sterile Records label alongside Nigel Ayers, releasing Lustmord, SPK, MB and Konstruktivists. Caroline sadly passed away in July 2008. Her only solo album, the title of which was taken from a Philip K. Dick novel, was released on LP by Earthly Delights in 1987. "Now Wait For Last Year" is a classic of beautiful ambient recordings; the majority of the music is haunting and melancholic. Beautifully remastered. "Concealed, In The Silence" is Karnnos' 7th full length record; a contemplative and oniric search for the cosmic mother, into the chasm of time. Ambiental, folkish, eerie songs and soundscapes illustrate the journey through the Great Mother mysteries of death, transformation and rebirth. The current line-up of bass, guitar, accordion and synth was joined by the violin, hurdy gurdy, psaltery and mandolin, bringing a renewed sonority to Karnnos' sound palette. Karnnos' music has always been a nostalgic journey through the remains of old; a stream of sensations, images and symbols coming from the deepest forests, coming from the echoes of our ancestors, coming from the bound with the unseen, the mysterious and the untamable. THE ORACLE & REIGN A.D. - 'The Mountain Peaks Of Prophecy' LP (Repose Records) - £21

A dualistic tale of Heaven and Hell. Hailing from Massachusetts, The Oracle marries the hypnotic allure of ritual electronics with a raw intensity reminiscent of Nine Inch Nails, Tangerine Dream or Vangelis all wrapped in an atmospheric shroud of dark ambient - as enigmatic as it is haunting. Inspired by "The Last Temptation Of Christ", these tracks imagine a hypothetical scenario where Jesus questions his messianic role, delving into the emotional and spiritual turmoil he might have faced during the three days spent in his tomb before his resurrection. On the flipside, London-based black metal project Reign A.D. opt for a more progressive sound with lots of modulation, dynamics and a focus on layering new tonalities with their signature intense black metal style, akin to the likes of Opeth and Deathspell Omega. New elements in the form of Hammond organ, synthesisers, trumpets, brass bells and even clean vocals for the first time (alongside the harsh), add a fresh layer of depth and intrigue to their sonic tapestry. Offering access to the keys of both heaven and hell, each track represents an encounter with one of four demon kings - Amaymon, Urieus, Paimon, and Egyn. SHRINE & MYTRIP - 'Descent' 7" (Corvus Records / Amek) - £8

A two-track collaboration between two key Bulgarian ambient acts: Shrine and Mytrip. Sharing a passion for loud and textural ambient sounds, they delved deeper into organic sounds and looping tonal layers, which are intertwined with sparse industrial soundscapes. This brief musical offering successfully showcases both artists' signature takes on ambient. The heavyweight sound production, courtesy of Shrine, makes "Descent" a memorable experience, certainly worthy of the vinyl treatment. Ltd x 250 copies in a gatefold sleeve.

TROUM - 'Symbiosis' LP VIOLET (Auf Abwegen) - £23.50

The original "Symbiosis" MCD was released in January 2003 as a limited edition in a handmade 3D pyramid-box (200 copies) on Troum's own Transgredient Records, with an additional standard edition in a stickered and handcoloured cardboard cover with obi strip. The five original tracks were recorded from May 2000 - August 2002 and consisted of guitar-only solo pieces by both members. Forming a unity out of singularities, merging the contradictions, this first reissue has an additional unreleased bonus track; a 2023 reworking of older material recorded with the same approach. Troum ("dream") is a duo located in Bremen, established in early 1997. The two members Glit[S]ch and Baraka[H] were active before in the influential ambient industrial group Maeror Tri (1988-1996). The dream seen as a central manifestation of the unconscious symbolizes the aim of Troum to lead the listener into a hypnotizing dream-state of mind, a pre-verbal and primal consciousness sphere. INCAPACITANTS - 'Default Standard' 2 x LP (Urashima) - £32

Originally released in 1999 on CD (Alchemy Records), "Default Standard" is a testament to Incapacitants' relentless pursuit of pure noise. A sonic landscape marked by tumultuous chaos, the album incorporates feedback, distortion, electronic manipulations, dissonant tones, unconventional time signatures, and unpredictable arrangements. The goal of Incapacitants (Toshiji Mikawa of Hijokaidan, and former C.C.C.C. member Fumio Kosakai) is to elicit emotional and visceral responses from the listener, challenging preconceived notions of what music can be. This meticulously curated double-vinyl reissue is an immersive journey through an archive of captivating visuals and insightful texts. Ltd x 199 copies including a large poster, inserts featuring unpublished photos by Yuichi Jibiki, a four-page A3 folded insert with previously unpublished photos and extensive notes from Toshiji Mikawa and Lasse Marhaug (who was also in charge of remastering), alongside a 1999 interview translated into English, from Japanese music magazine EATER.

SCUM - 'Exploitation Des Machines A Habiter' LP CLEAR PINK + CD (Cipher Productions) - £26

The first full-length LP from Sou Inomoto's Scum is a career highlight; a focused and highly detailed work of extreme electronics tension and layered dynamic uncomfortability. "Exploitation Des Machines A Habiter" features two lengthy tracks: the first a tunnelled exorcism of straining drones and sympathetic textures which peaks into noise saturation; the second a longer catharsis of high energy cut-up, loops and vortexed fragments taking form from divergent base elements. The initial master was considered too harrowing for the cutting engineer, so a new vinyl master was prepared - with the original CD master included here as an additional CD proper in PVC sleeve. Ltd x 180 copies on clear pink vinyl with inspired artwork from Francoise Duvivier and liner notes from Eric Wood (Bastard Noise).

MORTHOND - 'Death Time' LP (Urashima) - £24

A passage through the creative psyche of BJ Nilsen and the birth of Morthond, a project that took shape during the winter of 1990. Rooted in the wintry landscapes of its inception, Morthond captures the stark beauty and chilling isolation of his native Sweden. The debut album was originally released by Cold Meat Industry's cassette sub-label Sound Source in 1991 and is a portal to the project's formative years. "Death Time" was recorded in a pre-software era on minimal equipment, but treated to maximum effect. A bed of fragile drones lines a set of outerworldly rattling, crashing and scraping Industrial sounds, with alluring melodies, echoing whispers, and spoken word samples among all the bleakness. "Death Time" remains a testament to the enduring power of BJ Nilsen, who went on to create the lauded ambient project Hazard. This reissue isn't a mere resurrection; it's an invitation to rediscover the essence of Morthond. Remastered by BJ Nilsen. Ltd x 199 copies.
