Although "Felicific Algorithm / Mushikeras" was created using the same field recordings / source material as the 2018 dual-speed vinyl "Felicific Algorithim", the tracks have been carefully reworked by CORRUPTED into a much darker sound. Corrupted is a mysterious Japanese doom metal band, formed in 1994. Immensely downtuned guitar and crushingly slow bass are shrouded under deep layers of feedback. They are rightly hailed as one of the heaviest and darkest doom metal bands of all time.
This is not a simple reissue of the 2018 multi-speed, vinyl-only release "Felicific Algorithim" (Cold Spring). Though the first two tracks were created using the same field recordings / source material captured in Amagasaki, Osaka, and Fukushima, the tracks have been carefully reworked into a much darker sound. The new track titles 'Felicific Algiorithm' and 'Felicific Aligorithm' reflect this; like a mind virus appearing the same at first glance.
The 27-minute track 'Mushikeras' was recorded 2022-23 as a four-piece line-up of Kaz Mike (howling guitar and bass), Rie Lambdoll (vocal and bass), Mark Y. (guitar and bass), and Chew (drum and high carbon steel). A self-released digital-only track in autumn '23, this is the first physical manifestation of this doom metal behemoth, full of loud sludge, funeral dirge, haunting whispers / howling harsh vocals, and atmospheric build-ups.

LULL - 'Journey Through Underworlds'

The classic, genre-defining 1993 album from LULL - the pioneering, isolationist dark ambient project of MICK HARRIS of SCORN, FRET, ex-NAPALM DEATH - is a dark journey through the Stygian netherworlds of Hell.
The listener is left with the impression of a final escape into reality; a return upon waking, with only wispy trace memories and the heavy rush of blood-pumping fear as a keepsake.
With this album, we are plunged back into a dark pit of noise - all escape barred, all hope dashed. The nightmare continues, the journey through underworlds descends deeper. These are soundtracks for Nightmares. Despite there being just three tracks on the album, it lasts just shy of 75 minutes.
Originally released on Sentrax (the label of the late John Everall / Tactile), the CD suffered the 'disc rot' fate of many PDO pressings from 1988-1993, rendering most of that initial run unplayable.
Mixed by Justin K Broadrick (GODFLESH). Remastered by Martin Bowes (The Cage Studios) from the original recordings supplied by Mick Harris.

The bleak and hauntingly atmospheric film is accompanied by an impressively heavy soundtrack from Oleg Karpachev, who uses bombastic percussion, stirring strings, and otherworldly synths to convey the horror unfolding on screen.
Set during Cold War Soviet Russia, the ominous film starring Oksana Akinshina (Bourne Supremacy), Fedor Bondarchuk, and Pyotr Fyodorov Jr follows the story of a cosmonaut returning from space with a mysterious extraterrestrial organism; essential viewing for those with a penchant for "Alien"-style body horror.

SONOLOGYST - 'Shortwave Spectrum'

The new Sonologyst "sonic documentary" delves into the secretive realm of shortwave transmissions; a chronicle of clandestine shortwave transmissions culled from a span of nearly four decades (1982-2021). These mysterious transmissions - repetitive voices, signals, sound pulses, short pieces of music - were collated and edited to compose the tracks of the main album.
Immersed in an isolating fog of dark ambient, deep drone music and cinematic sound art, it provides an auditory exploration of the ongoing Cold War. Originating from covert radio stations engaged in military and espionage endeavours, the tracks unveil a hidden sonic landscape of strategic communication.
The second disc, in its extensive presentation, provides a deeper immersion into these enigmatic broadcasts. Each recording remains unaltered, accompanied only by a ghostly drone. It offers an unfiltered glimpse into the world of clandestine communication, where words are transmitted beneath the radar and in the shadowy confines of the electromagnetic spectrum.

The latest chapter in The Telescopes' idiosyncratic exploration of sound combines hallucinatory ballads with transcendent melodies, clanging, and lo-fi buzzes, with a substantial amount of crushing and sound degradation. The result is an album radiating a dark and abrasive, yet ethereal energy.
Created entirely independently by Stephen Lawrie in a remote cottage in West Yorkshire January-May 2022, the record was made with broken toys and cheap synths - mostly Pocket Operators and miniature synths, with no guitars. The complexity of sound rests within the simplicity of the composition and musical arrangements.
Features bonus remixes by Black Market Karma and Mosaic Runes.

A throb of field recordings of unknown origin lifts the veils on "Istantanee D'Ascolto" by Adriano Zanni, a first rank photographer and sound designer well-known to the third-ear sounds connoisseurs. The psychogenic imprint of his creative formula makes its way back with a sequence of free compositions that reflect yearnings close to the strategies of the most extreme and feral post-industrial verb, the unhealthy fruit of a dark 'terra incognita' undermined by cycles of alien radio frequencies and splashes of brutalizing noise. A work with inexplicable luciferous contours, there where anything can happen, not least the purpose to unleash highly devastating adrenaline rushes. The idea behind "Methexis" was to bring the jazz concept of interplay into an electronic environment and try to make different worlds (jazz, ambient, drone) collide. An album about the continuing interplay between the one and many: imagined and written by one person, given to six musicians to be played, returned to the one for electronic processing. The 'one' is Milan's drone-experimentalist Borda / Teo Ravelli; the musicians are the band Aether (Andrea Grumelli on electric bass, Andrea Ferrari on electric guitar, Andrea Serino on rhodes and Teo Ravelli on drums), plus Maria Torelli on double bass and Rosarita Crisafi on flute. Cade is a new project from Italian experimental sound artists Bruno Dorella (Sigillum S, OVO), and Giovanni Lami (Lemures). "We come from different backgrounds and training, but we found a common ground in our open view to different disciplines, and our curiosity towards unorthodox approaches to music. "Cade" is our first ever album to be released, part of a wide archive of sessions that we recorded in 2019-2020, with no kind of pressure. Dorella plays some traditional instruments such as guitar and percussion, while Lami processes them with different electronic instruments, including a reel-to-reel recorder and granular synthesizers".  ORGANUM ELECTRONICS - 'Darcknes' CD (Die Stadt) - £14.50
Organum Electronics is the ultra heavy Drone Noise project of British artist David Jackman. The difference from his main project, Organum, is that it literally uses electronics as a material for creating sounds. "Darcknes" is the sibling album of "Quietude". It is a similarly dense work, consisting of buzzing washes of electronic sounds, reminiscent of the very first Organum recordings. In common with other recent works, the piece uses a carefully chosen set of sound sources, overlaid and structured to form a tapestry of shifting textures.
UK-based composer and visual artist David Jackman began his career in the late 1960s in the experimental group Scratch Orchestra. He started recording solo work in the late 1970s, mostly on self-released cassettes in very small numbers. In the early 1980s he established his main project, Organum, which evolved into a new version under the name Organum Electronics in 2019. Recorded in 2021 and edited by Alan Jones at RMS Studios South London, the CD comes in a gatefold digisleeve with graphic artwork by Jonathan Coleclough. Ltd x 500 copies. |

"Quietude" is another intense aural experience from David Jackman (Organum/Electronics). A dense work, consisting of buzzing washes of electronic sounds, reminiscent of the very first Organum recordings. In common with other recent works, the piece uses a carefully chosen set of sound sources, overlaid and structured to form a tapestry of shifting textures. "In 'Darckness', some field recordings pop up, church bells, among the dense mass of electronic sound, whereas 'Quietude' seems all electronic throughout. Both seem to have been cut from more extensive work, ending quite abruptly. The overall sound design is quite similar in both pieces, and they share a general grimness about these works, as with many of his works. Think of this as being locked up in a factory, with sounds buzzing everywhere, and reminding me of the early harshness of Organum, sans electronics: dense, minimal and dark... another excellent work" (Vital Weekly).  SCHRÖTTERSBURG - 'Kosmogonia' CD (Zoharum) - £11.50
The sixth studio album by Polish group Schröttersburg is filled with atonal, psychedelic tribal Industrial based on Noise and dark New Wave textures. The trance, the rhythm of the falling city, begins a transfer ritual to the core of the Earth - the place of creation and birth of everything. Arranged and recorded by a four-piece band with which the musicians have been performing for a long time has resulted in a new, slightly different sound than before. "Kosmogonia" is the heaviest material in the output of Schröttersburg, along with a natural change resulting from constant musical exploration, begun where the last sounds of "Om Shanti Om" left off, dispersing into new, previously unexplored directions.  TONE GENERATOR & THE BODY WITHOUT ORGANS - 'Control Live' CD (Ultra-Mail Prods.) - £16
This disc features Tone Generator & The Body Without Organs live at Smith's Alternative, Canberra 27/8/2022. Features an intro by Jack Sargeant. Tone Generator (here with Scott Barnes) is Dominic Guerin - a somewhat infamous key contributor to the early classic industrial / noise era of SPK (late 1970’s/early 1980’s), and founding of industrial group Last Dominion Lost (with the late John Murphy). "The liner notes imply that the artistic approach continues from where SPK left off, addressing the 'body without organs' concept of Gilles Deleuze and artificial intelligence and information overload in dark ramblings. The recordings bring an ongoing dark rumble of sound, staying well this side of a wall of noise but beyond audible instruments. It is well-balanced, enjoyable to hear, and very reminiscent of tapes collected in the 1980s. Voice bites, a little old screaming, and some tone-generator sounds can be heard" (Vital Weekly).  WE BE ECHO - 'Facets' 3 x CD (Ultra-Mail Prods.) - £32
Occupying a halfway point between Throbbing Gristle and Cabaret Voltaire without ever quite sounding like either, We Be Echo is Kevin Thorne. "Facets" is a multi-decade collection of songs from W.B.E - encompassing their earliest recordings from 1981 to their latest in 2023. Included is their first vinyl release, "Alleycat", originally found on The Elephant Table Album issued in 1983. It also includes their song from Cause For Concern's EP "Stuff The Neighbours, Play It Loud!". Other sought after songs include two versions of 'The Witches Burn', and an unreleased single, 'Shake Shake Go!' (also released on Frux's "Let The Pigeons In" album). The second and third CD in this set are new songs that didn't fit onto the album being recorded at the time - they range from the sombre 'As Seasons Change' to the surprisingly upbeat 'Sugar'. "Facets" is aptly named as it does, indeed, show off the many facets of We Be Echo - there is a lot of music here that will challenge and 'entertain'. Kevin Thorne's first foray into music came after a chance meeting with Throbbing Gristle on Tottenham Court Road in 1979. A few months later he met Raye Calouri at the legendary Throbbing Gristle / Cabaret Voltaire / Rema Rema gig at Central YMCA, London. Soon after, the duo formed the short-lived Third Door From The Left. After the demise of TDFTL, Thorne formed We Be Echo. Originally released in 2016 on CDR, now available on CD-proper for the first time. "Beat!" documents poetry recordings from the second "Festival Internazionale de Poeti Roma" 28th July 1980 by the likes of: William Burroughs, Allen Ginsberg, John Giorno, Anne Waldman, Michael McClure, Joanna McClure, Antler (Brad Burdick), Gregory Corso, and Peter Orlowsky. The recordings are taken from quite well kept audience cassette tapes. Includes written contributions in Italian by Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Fernanda Pivano and Gabriele Roveda, edited by a/rivista anarchica. Presented in a 60-page 8x8" booklet published on 100% recycled paper, containing the CD in plastic sleeve, with several card inserts. The re-release of two tracks available on a very limited 10" lathe-cut vinyl, released for Contrastate's first live appearance in Italy, at OEC's historic Congresso Post Industriale festival, October 2019. Also features 4 brand new and unreleased tracks. A sonic soundtrack to an apocalyptic world that is hypnotic, yet still full of dynamic sounds and shifts. Their sound insinuates itself somewhere inside the dark ritual ambience of the electronic avant-garde shot through with a vein of experimental noise and sarcophetic vocals strewn amongst industrial surrealism.  RUDOLF EB.ER - 'Om Kult : Ritual Practice Of Conscious Dying - Vol. III' CD (Om Kult) - £13
Volume III of the Om Kult 3-CD triptych, recorded and processed at Om Kult Osaka between 2016 and 2018. Evolving from his extended "Brainnectar" studies on psycho-spiritual cleansing rituals derived from various shamanic and yogatantric traditions - and his examinations of aural hallucinations and paranormal perceptions - Rudolf Eb.er (Runzelstirn & Gurgelstøck, Schimpfluch-Gruppe) focuses now on the occult knowledge and techniques for the transition from life to death, on the ejecting mind as well as on the decomposing human body. Field recordings of Japanese forests, creeks and waterfalls, haystacks and dirt piles, maggots and flies feeding on carcasses, monks chanting and obscured voices from occult activities meet complex structures of seemingly minimalist sine wave and noise compounds, moldy tape hiss, rattling and drumming at absurd covens, digging in dirt and scraping on wood, decaying drones, abrupt bewildering noises and blackmetalesque grunts.

 VARIOUS ARTISTS - 'Decoder - The Soundtrack' LP (Replica Nova) - £20
A cult classic of sci-fi dystopia, "Decoder" (1984) saw EINSTÜRZENDE NEUBAUTEN's members working alongside GENESIS P-ORRIDGE (THROBBING GRISTLE / PSYCHIC TV) and WILLIAM S. BURROUGHS. It's one of the strangest (and most prescient) films of the decade. The film was made in Hamburg and Berlin, and directed by Muscha (who directed several punk films). The lead roles are played by Christiane F and FM Einheit from Neubauten, who also contributed to the film's score. Genesis P-Orridge, the kingpin of the English industrial scene, also appears as a priest of the Black Noise faith. Author William S. Burroughs portrays an insurrectionist salesman of audio equipment, and American cult actor Bill Rice plays a detective. MATT JOHNSON from THE THE wrote a frenetic, deformed song for the film that is both fantastic and painful to listen to, but DAVE BALL (SOFT CELL) and Genesis P-Orridge composed the rest of the soundtrack. A futuristic film, and a joyous application of William S. Burroughs' "The Electronic Revolution", which proposes a seditious and rather poetic method of subverting the masses and inciting them to rise up against the forces of order. Ball and P-Orridge shrewdly hijack elevator music for their own ends: alongside loops taken from actual muzak records are synths that pump out slow, almost funky grooves, a few jazzy spirals of piano notes intertwined with bleeps, samples, grinding sounds, reverb and whispers that could be either sensual or menacing. "Decoder" rejoices in its dialectic between "muzak" and "black noise" in various ways, looking to take as many liberties and make as many exaggerations as it can get away with. |
 ALTERNATIVE TV - 'Direct Action' LP (Fourth Dimension) - £20
"Direct Action", Alternative TV's first studio album since "Opposing Forces" (2015), presents six lengthy instrumental tracks which steadily rip apart all expectations as they shed all allusions to rock music in favour of the kind of sonic mutilations that once helped 1979's classic (and Nurse With Wound list endorsed) "Vibing Up the Senile Man (Part One)" stumble into weird and wonderful shapes. "Direct Action" marries guttural electronics to experimental sounds, and through Perry's long perfected mastery of pulling together disparate strands to create something entirely alchemical and invigorating delivers a unique stamp to the ATV story. With the help of collaborators Dave Morgan, Gareth Matthews, Ruth Tidmarsh and Cos Chapman, abstract patterns of dishevelled sound rub alongside occasional percussion, disembodied plasma guitar strums and an oboe groaning in a murky corner. Everything adds up to a whole that's demanding yet completely rewarding as every listen prises open the dark scab of contemporary malaise to reveal something fresh. Easy listening this isn't.  GITANE DEMONE & PAUL ROESSLER - 'The New Young Kings Of Midnight' CD (Dark Vinyl) - £12
A new album by Gitane Demone (Christian Death, Rozz Williams) in collaboration with Paul Roessler (45Grave, Gitane Demone Quartet, The Screamers, Nervous Gender, Nina Hagen...). A melancholic, classically-inspired album about death, mourning, transience and farewells, with oppressive classical chamber / avant-garde music by Roessler, over which Demone layered her unworldly and visceral vocal poetry. This orchestral song cycle from two veterans of L.A.'s punk rock scene offers nothing short of a symphonic articulation of the lives and careers of the distinctive artists as they explore the heights, the euphoria, the vulnerability and heartbreak of their respective experiences. Dark Ambient maestro RNGMNN joins with contemporary composer, singer and experimental musician, Karina Dorin for the first physical manifestation of their collaborative passion for music. Dorin handled the haunting / ethereal vocal parts, using her numerous effect pedals, while RNGMNN created the dark atmospheres around them. After exchanging recordings back and forth between 2020-2021, the duo have since performed live. "Our most unsettling fears are only a dream away. Never sleep again". RNGMNN (Ronny Engmann) is an artist within the dark ambient scene who has been on the rise in recent years, following releases on labels such as Winter-Light, Cryo Chamber, Reverse Alignment, and Noctivant. With a formal background in classical music and jazz, Karina Dorin is a singer, contemporary composer and experimental musician based in Berlin. In recent years, she has delved into experimental electronic composition techniques, especially vocal sampling-based methods, incorporating the human voice into an electronic musical environment, manipulating it live, and even using it as a trigger for external visual elements. The rather obscure second album of Arum Lilies, a brainchild of Mark Groves (Dead Boomers, Von Einem etc.), provides vaguely unsettling, eerily obscure experimental electronics. Harrowing, subtle atmospherics clash with moments of eardrum shattering industrial noise; warbling pseudomelodies are offset by crackling static and piercing feedback; ominous vocal samples are layered on passages of tightly controlled minimalism. The music on "Subsurface Aquifers" migrates between poles; from an almost ambient sparsity of expression to exuberant bursts of chaos. This is not an album of shallow industrial nihilism or typical power electronics misanthropy. It does not allow itself to be defined so easily. This chapter involves itself in the invocation of death manifesting in a physical form; The Wanderer. The Wanderer is the saga's avatar as a representation of endless ideas and forms. This harrowing and ominous release carries themes of death invocations and vengeful curses being delivered to its intended targets, as a means to tear and eviscerate the flesh into the spirit itself, hence, becoming carrion. A death ambient form that permanently remains in your spirit and your mind, influencing your very physical movement. The material herein paints a portrait of sincere self-honesty and reflection in its most revealing essence. It does what it is intended; to force the subject or individual to confront the Magian Distortion in an esoteric manner. A saga to be told in the most vicious and sincere aspect.
