NEW COLD SPRING RELEASES

400 LONELY THINGS - 'Creature Comforts' + Why I Went To The Woods' - OUT 9th JAN 2026

400 Lonely Things present two beautiful, entwined releases - one, the soundtrack to a perceived isolated apocalypse filled with psychoactive melancholia and ugly lullabies, evoking an acute sense of horror, bewilderment and bereavement... and its twin, devouring hauntological dream worlds inspired by the fictional filmed landscapes of psychedelic folk and benignly sinister pagan nights in the wild forests...

"These albums are opposite sides of the same coin, which is why they are being released in tandem. The coin being, in this analogy, the 2024 National Election in the US and its place in the world's entropic trajectory, and my own emotions in the time since. Thematically different, they are both visceral reactions to these subsequent points in time in which they were made".

"CREATURE COMFORTS"

With the idea that this album would be lullabies for the end of a world, I started seeking out soothing vocal samples and hypnotic audio beds and simple melodies and set about roughing them up to form a soundtrack to my perceived isolated apocalypse. These songs would be ugly on the surface, sad and angry and defeated and more than a little unhinged but, like David's paintings, hopefully have a heart that would show through the scarring... [read the full story of the release here].

"WHY I WENT TO THE WOODS"

Inspired equally by both the fictional filmed landscapes of psychedelic folk - the bucolic British countryside of the 1960s and 1970s which, though I've never witnessed in real life, still fill me with an inexplicable melancholic yearning to return home - and the benignly sinister pagan nights of our young wild forests here in the States... Music that would be suitable for all woodland creatures and ethereal beings of the melancholy forest. [read the full story of the release here].

We mark a decade since we first released Coil's landmark album 'Backwards', with a special 10 year anniversary vinyl reissue. All editions come in a gatefold matt-laminate sleeve with silver detail.

ALL ORDERS DIRECT FROM THE COLD SPRING STORE / BANDCAMP INCLUDE: THE FIRST EVER RELEASE OF THE FULL 'BACKWARDS DEMOS' (10-track CD), POSTER AND ARTCARD.

After the ground-breaking release of 1990's "Love's Secret Domain" album, Coil were not dormant; the main project was "Backwards", which was started in 1992, updated considerably between 1993 and 1995, and transferred in 1996 to New Orleans, where it was finished in the magic of the Nothing studios of Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails). The album saw the fruition of Jhonn Balance's recent vocal coaching, producing haunting, passionate vocals, while reaching new heights.

23 years after its initiation, these tracks have been beautifully preserved by Danny Hyde and are finally available in highest quality audio. Differing substantially from the later, remixed incarnation, "The New Backwards" (2008), "Backwards" contains the original versions of Coil's much-loved tracks; 'A Cold Cell' and 'Fire Of The Mind', which have appeared on various compilations over the years, and are now presented as originally intended.

CHIMEHOURS - 'Underneath The Earth'
CD £11.50 / LP Black £20 | LP Ltd Earth Green £23 - OUT NOW!

 Bandcamp  Soundcloud  Soundcloud   YouTube

"Underneath The Earth" is the debut album from Chimehours; a hauntological music project for the dislocated present day. Taking inspiration from Max Porter's novel "Lanny", the album digs into themes of nature, myth and community, with an edge of folk-horror.

Drones, drums and gritty guitars are juxtaposed with woodwind, strings and ethereal song. Written and produced between Derbyshire, London and Margate, the album takes musical influence from the likes of Liz Fraser, Broadcast, Beth Gibbons, Bibio and Jóhann Jóhannsson, and atmospheric cues from The Wickerman, The Fog, and Enys Men.

Chimehours is a collaboration between Beck Goldsmith and Jon Dix. The pair have previously performed in bands together and composed music for award-winning film and television. They conjured up this foray into cinematic, horror-flecked contemporary-folk to explore their love of the supernatural and the other-than-human.

Chimehours raid the vaults of 70's British cinema and trad folk soundscapes to riff on contemporary anxieties and ecological yearning. They conjured up this foray into cinematic, horror-flecked contemporary-folk to explore their love of the supernatural and the other-than-human. The result is a collection of all things earthy, exquisite and grotesque.

LLYN Y CWN - 'Megaliths In Dub'
CD £11.50. OUT NOW!

  Bandcamp  Soundcloud  Download

A deep reworking of Llyn Y Cwn's "Megaliths" (2024). The original was a profound dark ambient exploration of the sacred resonance embedded within stone circles; "Megaliths In Dub" is the echo beneath the surface, the unheard rhythm that has always been there.

The megaliths stand - timeless, unyielding. Their histories stretch beyond recorded memory, their presence imbued with silent narratives of the land. "Megaliths" sought to channel this ancient energy into pure sound. Yet no history exists without its counterpart - no creation without its shadow.

On "Megaliths In Dub", suppressed tempos emerge, pulsing with the primal force of forgotten rites. Guitar invocations from the live rituals weave through the fabric of the album, distorting and reshaping the familiar, exquisite dark ambient Llyn Y Cwn has become renowned for.

It is a sonic metamorphosis - a spectral reflection of the megalithic presence. The stones have been disturbed.

Presented in a 6-panel digipak with breathtaking photography by the artist.

VARIOUS ARTISTS - 'Decoder'
CD £12 - OUT NOW!

  Bandcamp   YouTube

Released on standalone CD for the first time in 33 years, this now-complete edition of the ground-breaking, legendary soundtrack is finally here.

A cult classic of sci-fi dystopia, "Decoder" (1984) saw EINSTÜRZENDE NEUBAUTEN's members working alongside GENESIS P-ORRIDGE (THROBBING GRISTLE / PSYCHIC TV) and WILLIAM S. BURROUGHS. It's one of the strangest (and most prescient) films of the decade. The film was made in Hamburg and Berlin, and directed by Klaus Maeck 'Muscha' (who directed several punk films).

The lead roles are played by Christiane F and FM Einheit from Neubauten, who also contributed to the film's score. Genesis P-Orridge, the kingpin of the English industrial scene, also appears as a priest of the Black Noise faith. Author William S. Burroughs portrays an insurrectionist salesman of audio equipment (and contributes spoken word to the soundtrack), and American cult actor Bill Rice plays a detective.

SOFT CELL contributed their classic 'Seedy Films', while MATT JOHNSON from THE THE wrote a frenetic, deformed song for the film that is both fantastic and painful to listen to, and EINSTÜRZENDE NEUBAUTEN's 'Compressed Metal' is sublime. Dave Ball (SOFT CELL), Jon Caffery and Genesis P-Orridge composed the rest of the soundtrack.

A futuristic film, and a joyous application of William S. Burroughs' "The Electronic Revolution", which proposes a seditious and rather poetic method of subverting the masses and inciting them to rise up against the forces of order.

MUZAK IS MORE THAN MUSIC.

CD in matt-laminate digipak with 10-page foldout booklet.

AINE O'DWYER - 'Locusts' LP (Penultimate Press) - £19

"Locusts" follows up the highly acclaimed "Gegenschein" and "Music for Church Cleaner" releases from Irish artist Áine O'Dwyer. Whilst continuing to explore the church organ as the primary instrument, these two releases steer away from Church Cleaners in both sonic content and themes explored. Recorded and performed at St James's Church, Barrow-in-Furness, England and The First Unitarian Congregational Society Church, Brooklyn Heights, New York, "Locusts" presents itself as a celebration of the pipe organ's acoustical abilities of tapping into electronic pulses along with O'Dwyer's liturgical memories which are at times, pushed into horrorthon states.
BLEAK HAVEN - 'Oblivion' CD (Dark Odyssey Records) - £11.50

Kristof Bathory (Dawn Of Ashes) presents his new project, Bleak Haven - dark ambient with a Sci-Fi horror theme. The Icarus-9 mission was supposed to be humanity's triumph, a sterile laboratory orbiting in the endless dark. But when Dr. Elias Varn pushed his experimental reactor beyond its limit, something was birthed - a nightmare of twisted flesh and shifting form. It tore through the crew without mercy, rending bone from sinew, turning the pristine decks into a blood-soaked labyrinth. No weapon could kill it, no prayer could drive it away. By the time Elias realized his mistake, there was nothing left but screams lost in the vacuum - and the creature, nesting in the heart of his dying ship. An unsettling album of cinematic dark ambient, Sci-Fi horror soundscapes, and analogue synthesizers. Digipak.
DARK AWAKE - 'Archemoros' CD (Dark Odyssey Records) - £11.50

Greek act Dark Awake have been exploring the hidden, subterranean currents of esotericism, occult philosophy and ancient lore for two decades. Their latest album, "Archemoros", presents a ritualistic and mystical atmosphere; an abolition of matter under the banner of cosmic Dark Ambient music. Within the wider universe we do not live in relation to anyone, we are undefined in our being continuity. Death will truly have no power over art. The power of the will directs the destiny. And so, in the perpetual cycle of life and death that defines the tragic fate of the human, a gloomy epilogue can unexpectedly lead to an auspicious prologue... Glossy digipak.
EXTNDDNTWRK - 'Albus' 2 x LP (Fourth Dimension) - £25

EXTNDDNTWRK is the enduring solo project of Andrew Fearn (one half of SLEAFORD MODS). While akin to his role in his main group with respect to primarily working with electronic sounds, samples and rhythms, EXTNDDNTWRK is a far more mannered affair whose approach is concerned with atmospherics, occasional tempered beats perfect for a late night drive along a deserted motorway, near-ambient swerves into neo-minimalism, crisp melodies and moody sickness fever dreams. There's a strong soundtrack-ish angle to EXTNDDNTWRK's instrumentals that almost command cinematic accompaniment, but what is most striking is the sheer maturity and refinement to each of the nine songs that constitute "Albus". Together, they illustrate an artist clearly at the top of his game in a home studio setting as much as when he's working up a sweat on stage. Ltd x 500 copies on black vinyl, includes an insert featuring sleeve notes by Andrew Fearn.
INFINEXHUMA - 'Razbunare' CD (Dark Odyssey Records) - £11.50

U.S. Dark Ambient unit Infinexhuma presents "Razbunare", an 8-track album featuring guests Apócrýphos (Cryo Chamber) and a remix by God Is War. Created using Modal Electronics Argon8 keyboard and the Moog Werkstatt, original samples and soundscapes. Recommended for fans of 70's horror electronics and industrial dark ambient. "As the excavation progresses within the being, the gap between the host and the spirit narrows, bridging the space between truth and limbo. A retrospective investigation has uncovered the origin of a black hole that demanded closure. The exploration has been taxing on the explorer, and the closing will require multiple events. The first of these is Razbunare, with the assistance of beings crossed on the astral trajectory, serves not only to seal the portal but also to retrieve the redeeming factor at the end and to provide rejuvenation and recovery for the explorer. Reunion is imminent". Recorded 2023 (and presented in a black bag with incense, razors and blood painted patches), this edition has been completely remastered and features updated artwork in a digipak.
JEROME NOETINGER & ANTHONY PATERAS - '15 Coruscations' CD (Penultimate Press) - £11.50

"15 Coruscations" weaves frequencies and stirs data into an agitated series of deft psychoacoustic miniatures. Employing electronics as a deformed mirror reflecting joyous lacerations and interweavings, it borrows from both brut and skilled musical practises, emerging from the current despair to blister light across the moribund horizontalities of post-surveillance musical product. Both highly-respected composers / performers, Jérôme Noetinger (France) & Anthony Pateras (Australia) began their working relationship in 2009 in the Thymolphthalein quintet (Editions Mego, 2011). "15 Coruscations" is their latest testament to their quest for the unheard, deploying tape, computer, samplers, garbage, environmental recordings, lo-fi electronics, hi-fi circuitry and a deep love of all things concrète. Ltd x 300 copies in a digipak.
KLEISTWAHR - 'The Battlefield Is Everywhere' CD (Fourth Dimension) - £11.50

On "The Battlefield Is Everywhere" (a perfect title for what's going on around us these days), in addition to the searing psychedelic churn Gary Mundy (Ramleh / Broken Flag boss) is a deft hand at delivering, there's the slow-burn volcanic rock assault of 'Let's Be Strangers' and the electronic bleep-addled mass of howls, demolition ball rhythm and cascading textures of 'Yet Still the Birds Sing' to contend with besides many other delights that pull the album in several directions. While it could be contended this music would be ideal for the aftermath of your next toxic 'shroom stew-serving dinner party, there's still room enough for some violent twitches towards an appetising dessert. Threaded throughout are signature features comprising organ groans, despairing vocals reaching from a scorched canyon, black hole guitars, abrasive textures and occasional rhythmic pulses. As always, this album sees Gary pushing Kleistwahr into new spaces only he has the tools to carve. Mastered by Sion Orgon. Ltd x 300 copies in a gatefold mini-LP style sleeve, based on the Broken Flag design featuring paintings by Michael Boul.
KRISTOFFER OUSTAD - 'Magnor' CD (Zoharum) - £11.50

Kristoffer Oustad returns with "Magnor", a deep exploration of dark electronic music; a bold, cinematic soundscape rooted in classic industrial and dark ambient traditions. With a very personal and forward thinking approach, at its core lies the theme of spiritual belonging. "Magnor”"represents a place, a direction and a state; let this soundtrack be a compass, and there will be countless treasures hidden along the way. A decade after his first solo album ("Filth Haven", Malignant Records), "Magnor" was composed and matured over several years, crafted using analogue and modular synthesizers, minimal post-production, with a strong focus on structure, dynamics, and atmosphere. The music is performed rather than programmed, lending it a sense of presence and authenticity, forming a crucial part of the album's character. Norway's Kristoffer Oustad also records as Stromstad, Plague Machinery, V:28, V:O:I:D, and has collaborated with Industrial heavyweights such as MZ.412, Murderous Vision, Stromstad, and Megaptera. Guest vocals by Jonathan Grieve (Contrastate). Mastered by Nordvargr. Ltd x 300 copies in a 6-panel digipak.
LUIGI TURRA / ELIO MARTUSCIELLO - 'Liminale' LP (Die Schachtel) - £23

On their debut collaboration, Luigi Turra and Elio Martusciello weave microscopic textures, fleeting vocalizations, and minimal instrumental gestures into a soundscape that explores the thresholds between memory, space, and perception. An aural bridge between two distinct generations of Italian experimental musicians, "Liminale", as its title eludes, is an exploration of the liminal through sonic means: "places that exist on the threshold, transitional spaces suspended between a before and an after, between the real and the evanescent" conceiving the soundscape as a liminal place. Slow-paced guitar tones and harmonics, delicately populated by tiny sounds, vocal utterances, intoxicating piano tones, metallic pulses, minimal vibrations, guitar harmonics, and deconstructed piano melodies, and drifting gauzy hazes create an imagistic and immersive landscape. Intimate, fragile, and achingly beautiful, "Liminale" is a masterstroke in soundcraft and composition, revealing the potency of meaning locked within transitional spaces and the undefined, and imbuing silence with monumental gravity and weight. Mastered for vinyl by Giuseppe Ielas. Ltd x 200 copies on 180g heavyweight vinyl, housed in a silkscreened cover and outer PVC sleeve, designed by Bruno Stucchi.
MATHS BALANCE VOLUMES - 'Cycles Of Tonite' LP (Penultimate Press) - £19

Maths Balance Volumes follow up their acclaimed release "A Year Closer" with a further and sturdier bucket of songs scraped from the dust of being. Haunted, fragile and beautiful, this is music that explores the ghostly zones of its own creation. The loneliness and vulnerability that unfolds with the opening cut 'Stay' lays the way for exploration of sound and song with simple melodic guitar and organ whilst the subsequent 'Janet's Song' weaves mirror elements alongside the sound of pebbles on water. This is evocative, music made thoroughly by humans with the most basic of tools. Dusty, scratchy heartbreakers. Comes with a beautifully-printed A4 vellum insert. Ltd x 300 copies.
MERZBOW - 'Animal Magnetism' 2 x LP (Urashima) - £32

A touchstone release from Merzbow's digital era! Originally released on CD in 2003 (Alien8, JP), "Animal Magnetism" now receives a long-overdue vinyl reissue (with bonus track). This is a work that remains firmly rooted in Merzbow's signature approach - dense layers of distortion, intense feedback, and electronic debris... but it also stands out for its sense of structure and variation, and the fact it's not impenetrable. A complex of textures, subtle melodic patterns and rhythmic shifts sit beneath the surface of majestic Japanoise. Experimentism and heaviness, speed and inertia, chaos and control - this is not chaos for chaos's sake, but a carefully controlled burn. The deluxe double LP edition has been meticulously remastered by Lasse Marhaug and includes a previously unreleased bonus track, 'Quiet Comfort #2', which serves as both a continuation and a reflection, extending the album's themes. "Animal Magnetism" is a reminder that noise can be complex, emotional, and even, beautiful. Ltd x 299 copies, housed in a gatefold sleeve, the reissue replicates the original artwork, including Masami Akita's own photographs.
MOLJEBKA PVLSE - 'An Expression Of A Poetry That Was Lost' CD (Zoharum) - £11.50

Once again, the Swedish-German project invites their listeners into its musical world, intricately woven from subtle melodies, warm, delicate drone structures, and the sounds of exotic instruments, over which hangs an aura of the extraordinary, shimmering with particles of light, bathed in summer sunlight, evoking fragrances from the farthest corners of the globe. "An Expression Of A Poetry..." comprises two longer compositions where, alongside electronics, we hear live instruments and dark ambient moments give way to exotic sounds, reflective melodies, and a fleeting aura of mystery. This is another release showing that this band still has much to say. MOLJEBKA PVLSE recorded the material with a four-member lineup: founder Mathias Josefson (who also records as Skare, on electronics, production and mastering), with Kris Kuldkepp (bass guitar), Hara Alonso (piano), and Isabel Fogelklou (harp). 45 mins. Ltd x 300 copies in a 6-panel digipak.
MOLJEBKA PVLSE - 'An Expression Of A Poetry That Was Lost' LP (Zoharum) - £20

Limited black vinyl edition of the above release, pressed on 180g heavyweight vinyl. Ltd x 200 copies in a reverseboard sleeve, includes download card.
ONASANDER - 'Under Unknown Stars' CD (Dark Odyssey Records) - £11.50

Known for excellent albums on Winter Light (plus collaborations with Alphaxone, Empusae, Gydja, Kloob, Ajna, and may more), Onasander takes us on a journey into space ambience and deep atmospherics. "The explorers' spacecraft touched down on the mysterious planet, bathed in the alien glow of its unfamiliar star system. Eager anticipation mixed with trepidation as they stepped onto the uncharted terrain. They were surrounded by mutant alien plants that seemed to pulsate with otherworldly energy. The flora exhibited bizarre shapes and hues, adapting to the unique conditions of this extraterrestrial world. As the team delved deeper into the terrain, they stumbled upon foreboding caves, their entrances adorned with luminescent fungi. Unbeknownst to them, these caves concealed dangerous inhabitants, evolved over eons to survive in the subterranean darkness. As the explorers pressed forward, the eerie silence was shattered by unexpected movements within the shadows, revealing the planet's secrets and the perilous challenges that awaited them in the depths of the unknown". Gatefold digisleeve.
PANCRACE - 'Papotier' 2 x LP (Penultimate Press) - £26

Pancrace is an ensemble comprising French, British and Austrian performers, with a phenomenological approach that involves experiencing the limits of sound objects. Following "The Fluid Hammer", the ensemble return to church and repent, confronting a Silbermann 18th century baroque organ (famous for its "human voice" stop) with their custom made modular midi pipe organ: the "Organous". A papotier is a mask or to be very specific a grotesque face carved in wood, initially rigged to the lower part of the organ casing. After months of lockdown, having a papotier as an amulet was somewhat liberating, relearning how to breathe, listening to the human membrane, questioning the nature of air all within the confined space of a 14th century church. Essentially understanding what a mouth is to us to the point where, when all the pipes are blowing, they make a hell of a noise.
Music for spatialized midi controlled pipe organ "Organous", Silbermann pipe organ (1778), voices, bird calls, baroque violin, rattles, ventilators, whistles, uilleann pipes, gaida, sheng, rhombus, pouet-pouet, Pi synth, Kastle synth and AM radio, presented in a gatefold sleeve.
RALF WEHOSWKY - 'C.D.' 2 x CD (Penultimate Press) - £15

Ralf Wehowsky (aka RLW) is one of the most respected practitioners of radical music of our day, and a founding member of the seminal German group P16.D4. The "C.D." project uses, on the one hand, a series of documentary recordings of contemporary witnesses (considerably sound-modified), and on the other, a set of melodic improvisations (MIDI files), improvised in the spirit of the impressions of terror, tension, claustrophobia and fear associated with the Colonia Dignidad - a German evangelical sect, which fled to Pinochet's Chile in 1961. CD 2 (Knochenstückchen) directly reflects this atmosphere. CD 1 (Reue?) on the other hand, is characterised by the contradictory breadth of the statements found after the dissolution of the sect: denial of atrocities to glorification of the C.D. by leaders. The MIDI files were played back with a variety of virtual instruments (piano, guitar, sax, turntable, lung machine, barrel organ, synths, etc.) in a multitude of modifications, so that the pieces from both discs each represent a closely interwoven overall composition. 6 panel digipak with suitably unsettling artwork.
ROBERT C. KOZLETSKY - 'Pulsed In A Dull Glass Bell' CD (Dark Odyssey Records) - £11.50

A reissue of "Pulsed In A Dull Glass Bell", the haunting and atmospheric album from Robert Kozletsky, now featuring newly mastered audio and evocative new artwork by Pär Boström. Originally released on cassette through Danvers State Recording (Ltd 50 copies, 2016), the album takes deep inspiration from The Road, a novel by Cormac McCarthy. Translating its stark landscapes and quiet despair into immersive soundscapes that drift between isolation and fragile hope. With previous releases on Malignant Records, Cryo Chamber, and Cyclic Law, Kozletsky (who also records under the aliases Apócrýphos and Shock Frontier) has established himself as a master of dark cinematic sound design. This definitive edition breathes new life into "Pulsed In A Dull Glass Bell", refining its sonic textures while preserving the desolate beauty that made it a standout in his discography. Prepare to descend into a world of faded echoes and distant light. Gatefold gloss digisleeve.
SÁNDOR VÁLY - 'Prayer' LP (BlindBlindBlind) - £22

A beautifully deep and meditative choral / organ journey from Hungary's Sándor Vály, featuring Sheik Abdullah Al Zaili and Júlia Heéger. Egon Wellesz (1885-1974), the Austro-British musicologist, could well provide the motto for "Prayer". "Arabic music knows no concept of time. A single song or piece of music can last for hours. The listener is not actively involved in the performance, not concerned with the formal structure of the work, but is magically connected to the music, allowing it to take him or her away". The track 'O Vis Aeternitatis' was created with soprano Júlia Heéger, based on the responsory of the great western mystic Hildegard von Bingen, originally presented as a sound installation in the Church of St. Francis Trevi, Italy. The vocal tracks are transformed into a chorus with 10 second delays, doubling the layers at each round. The same doubling method was applied to 'Adhan', the Islamic call to prayer, which was performed by Sheikh Abdullah al Zaili, following the tradition of Arabic recitation. For both pieces, the result is a sustained sound mass, which could be interpreted as their essence. The two tracks (44min), which feature Vály on sampler, organ, and wind instruments, have now found their place on this limited edition record, merging like palms in one.
SERGIO ARMAROLI / DAVID TOOP - 'And I Entered Into Sleep' LP (Die Schachtel) - £23

David Toop is a pioneer in British experimental and improvised music: a sonic voyager who has continuously challenged the sources and materiality of sound through rigorously thoughtful performances, a vast catalogue of recordings, and a steady flow of highly influential texts. His first outing with Italy's radical composer, percussionist, vibraphonist, and multidisciplinary artist Sergio Armaroli has a sprawling sense of beauty and intimacy. Featuring Armaroli on vibraphone and prepared vibraphone and Toop on electronics, "And I Entered Into Sleep" is a sonic journey into the unconscious between electronic and acoustic sounds. The pair weave a striking interior world of immersive psychological depth. Feeling almost subaquatic at times, like captured glimpses of rumbling, shadowy ecosystems lost within murky ambiences, before washing ashore in a series of pointillistic, highly detailed alien landscapes of the mind, each artist's markedly different sound-sources, and treatment of the subsequent material elements, dance in abstract grace, incorporating subtle nods to minimalism, free jazz, and musique concrète within its seamless total form of sparse texture and tone. Ltd x 200 copies on 180g heavyweight vinyl, housed in a silkscreened cover and outer PVC sleeve, designed by Bruno Stucchi.
THE STARGAZER'S ASSISTANT - 'Modular Fields. Volume One' LP (Zoharum) - £20

This is the 5th album from British band The Stargazer's Assistant. The first part of the diptych "Modular Fields" is comprised of two long, ambient compositions with a slightly esoteric flavour. Like the previous release, "Fire Worshipper", the album was recorded with the following lineup: David J. Smith (Guapo, The Amal Gamal Ensemble, The Holy Family), Michael J. York (COIL, The Utopia Strong, Urthona), and David J. Knight (UnicaZürn, Shock Headed Peters), and Antti J. Uusimaki (UZU NOIR). This musical phenomenon can be simply defined as esoteric ambient, stylistically fitting somewhere between the albums of Cyclobe, UnicaZurn, Coil from the last period of activity and all kinds of lunar publications. Ltd x 200 copies in a matte-laminate sleeve, pressed on 180g heavyweight vinyl. Includes download card.
UGASANIE - 'Heart Of The Swamp' CD (Dark Odyssey Records) - £11.50

With dark ambient and textural drones, Ugasanie leads us through the dark forest into the heart of the swamp. Belarus is a land of captivating contrasts, where sprawling lakes, vast swamps, and dense forests create a landscape both enchanting and mysterious. As if veiled in a cloak of ancient lore, this country's terrain whispers tales of bygone eras, especially those from the period of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. Here, amidst the tranquil waters of its expansive lakes and the eerie tranquility of its endless swamps, the legends of old find their home. But it is in the heart of the dark forests where the most intriguing stories unfold, where ancient myths come to life. Among these, the legend of Tsmok, the dragon of Polish Belarusian mythology, reigns supreme. Embark on a journey through Belarus, and you'll find yourself immersed in a world where the lines between reality and myth blur, where the echoes of the past resonate through every rustle of leaves and ripple of water. Gatefold digisleeve.
WEREWOLF JERUSALEM - 'Black Chapel' CD (Urashima) - £11.50

Werewolf Jerusalem is one of Richard Ramirez's most known, respected and prolific projects (alongside Black Leather Jesus). With around 200 releases since its inception in 2001, Werewolf Jerusalem's sound is based around atmospheric static studies, brutal drone matter, crackling textures and mood setting HNW. Initially influenced by the work of Chop Shop, thematically the project often focuses in on sci-fi, Giallo or old horror movies, and "Black Chapel" takes inspiration from the last of these. The two tracks here (just shy of 20mins each) show Ramirez in a mixture of tense and dark HNW construction, jagged and dense static texturing. "Black Chapel" was the first vinyl release by Urashima in February 2009, and defined the aesthetics of the label for more than a decade. This is bound to be a revelation for anyone that missed it the first time around! Ltd x 199 copies in a digipak featuring the original artwork.

AINE O'DWYER - 'Gegenschein' LP (Penultimate Press) - £19

Many will know Irish artist Áine O'Dwyer for her acclaimed debut release "Music For Church Cleaners", and instrumentalist / vocalist with United Bible Studies. Whilst continuing to explore the church organ as the primary instrument, this release steers away from Church Cleaners in both sonic content and themes explored. "Gegenschein" was recorded at the Franciscan Friary in Limerick city. Áine gained access to the Friary in 2012 and explored both pipe organ and space in its disused state. What becomes of a sacred space after the dispersion of the spirit, after the light has been switched off, after the deconsecration? "Gegenschein is notable for the both prominent presence of her vocals on 12/12/12 and the length of its pieces, consisting of 25 minute and 15 minute works, respectively, which are both broader than anything on her acclaimed Music For Church Cleaners album or Locusts; documenting the multi-instrumentalist docked at the organ seat and rendering two billowing scapes painted in thick, lustrous waves of physical sonic pressure, and resulting a genuinely astonishing spectrum of coruscating, complex overtones" (Boomkat).

CONTROLLED DEATH (MASONNA) - 'Ritualistic Mutilation In The Bloody Darkness' 2 x LP (Urashima) - £28

Controlled Death is the dark project by the Japanese noise legend Maso Yamazaki (a.k.a. MASONNA). The activities of Controlled Death are like an archaic revival to the music experience before Masonna. We can also find the pathology image of the early industrial period and the shadows of Vienna activism such as Hermann Nitsch as well as loose bits of seminal black metal. Wild and amazing, this one is absolutely essential for any fan of synth and dark ambient music. Cracked minimal electronic sounds of Korg MS-20, unclear and disturbing voices with the influence of primitive black metal and dark ritual. The smell of death is soaked in every groove produced by the four vinyl sides. Comes in a deluxe gatefold sleeve with impressive photography (of a cave church with the remains of the people who were massacred by the Saracens in 999 A.D. during the invasion of southern Italy) by Aldo Volpe. Ltd x 299 copies.

MASONNA - 'Maso+Onna=Masonna' LP (Urashima) - £24

Japanese noise legend Masonna (Mademoiselle Anne Sanglante Ou Notre Nymphomanie Auréolé) is the brainchild of Maso Yamazaki, a name known for epitomising the extreme end of the noise spectrum. Originally released on cassette by the Coquette label in 1989, "maso+onna=masonna" is a landmark recording which has long been the subject of underground lore for its intense, almost mythical presence in the Japanese Noise world. Capturing Masonna at one of his most pivotal moments, the first side-length track delves into extreme distortion, vocal manipulations, and screeching feedback, with the ferocious intensity for which he is famed. The frantic bursts of static, relentless noise, screeches, and hallucinating screams jolt us unexpectedly into the (controlled?) chaos on the flipside. A demented broken guitar intro drags us into a chaotic noise onslaught, punctuated with fleeting stabs of near silence, exploding back into intense noise, demented screaming / wretching vocals and some of the most unhinged experiments ever put to vinyl. The extreme outer boundaries of 'music'. Ltd x 199 copies with textured A5 insert.

MAURIZIO BIANCHI - 'Regel' LP (Oblio / Die Schachtel) - £22

One of the great cornerstones of early 80's Italian experimentalism and Industrial music, fully-remastered for the first time. Comprising two, untitled, side-long compositions, "Regel" stands among the best illuminations of the tangible links between the early electronic avant-garde and certain music that blossomed from the cultural revolution of punk. The first piece draws upon manipulated sound sources, threaded with synthesizer or theremin, which collectively gather an almost post-apocalyptic sensibility. Using a similar sound palette, the album's second side delves toward a more markedly tonal realm, utilising deconstructed melodic elements, striking harmonic collisions and pulses, placed within a cavernous sense of space and texture that achieves thrilling seductiveness. "Regel" remains as fresh, engrossing, and exciting as the day it first appeared in 1982. Remastered by Andrea Marutti and issued in collaboration with the artist in a very limited edition of 280 copies on black vinyl, the album is housed in a sleeve that fully replicates the original, and contains two inserts and a sticker.
SPACE MACHINE (MASONNA) - 'Complete Space Tuning Box' 4 x CD Wooden Boxset (Urashima) - £45

Conceived as a vehicle to explore electronic synthesis around the turn of the new millennium, Space Machine is the analogue electronic cosmic sound project of Takushi "Maso" Yamazaki - Masonna. Combining elements of psychedelia, drone, and experimental music, Space Machine crafts a sonic tapestry with layers of space ring, hypnotic rhythms, and ethereal synthesizers, creating a rich and textured soundscape. A transcendent musical journey drawing on the artists deep and long-standing love of early electronic music from the '50s and '60s, utilising his collection of analogue synthesizers (EMS VSC3, Roland System 100 & 100M, PAIA 4700 Modular, Doepfer Modular) and vintage electronic equipment. The music of Space Machine has an otherworldly quality, evoking visions of distant galaxies and cosmic landscapes. It is an immersive and transformative journey that expands the boundaries of what is possible in music. Guests: Kawabata Makoto (Acid Mothers Temple), Nakaya Koichi (Nasca Car), Hasegawa Hiroshi (Astro, ex-C.C.C.C.). Between 2001-2005, Maso released three full lengths and four EPs, all the products of his daily, tripped out inner explorations of music at his Space Machine Systems Studio. "Complete Space Tuning Box" gathers all these works, the project's debut "Cosmos From Diode Ladder Filter", the beautiful albums "2" and "3", and the entirety of those EPs. Ltd x 300 copies in a wooden box with three 7" inserts, a square pin badge and the four CDs that include the complete discography.

ISOMER - 'Proclamation' CD (Zazen Sounds) - £12

The new full-length album from Australia's dark ambient and heavy electronics bastion, Isomer. "Proclamation" is a study in overcoming and transformation through colonialism and conquest; through sacrifice and trial; through blood and scorching soil. "Proclamation" is a nod to the cosmic ambience of Isomer's roots, offset with combative statements of analogue belligerence, field recordings and acid squelch. For this campaign, Isomer is supported by strikes and broadsides from fellow Antipodean settler, No Guard. Cinematic Dark Ambient in the vein of Desiderii Marginis). "Is that my blood that dyes the dirt Is that my blood That dyes it red?". Gatefold digisleeve. Already sold out from the label!
CONCEPCIÓN HUERTA - 'Serenade' LP (Elevator Bath) - £20

The first solo vinyl LP from Concepción Huerta (Huerta Ensamble), an artist from Mexico who employs tapes to manipulate recordings of everyday objects and electronic instruments. The fruit of these experimental methods is an intense, heavy take on dark ambient and noise music; a densely atmospheric exploration of sound driven by narrative. "The Earth Has Memory" was recorded while in residence at Elektronmusikstudion (EMS), Stockholm and fine tuned at UNAM with Olivia Block. Instruments used were primarily the Buchla and the Nord, which were then processed via magnetic tape, lending a tactile, organic quality to the work - appropriate as the album tells of a descent to the centre of the earth. Abstract resonances, high-pitched tones, low frequencies, with lurching drones replicate geological movements larger than humanity.
"Just via synths and tape treatments, she conjures the depth of the ocean, the solidity of the earth, and the remnants of the Big Bang" (Brainwashed). Mastered by James Plotkin. Ltd x 200 copies in a reverseboard sleeve with spot-varnish print. Includes insert and download code.
GERSTEIN - 'Sucker (Expanded & Remastered)' CD (Heretiche Elettriche Divisioni) - £11.50

Originally released on the cult label Misty Circles (LP Ltd 300 copies, 1993), this expanded edition of Gerstein's classic album is released for the first time after 32 years - and as a celebration of 40 years of the band. "A prism of stylistic eclecticism that adds new narrative ideas to the already dense soundscape created at the time by the author. Avantgarde rock, artwave, darkwave, neofolk and pianistic breath are the main aesthetic dictates that connote the dreamy maps of the work, alternating moods and psychological tears dissimulated in the texts. Music and words that paint the chiaroscuro of life and renew questions about the fragility of the human condition" (Rockerilla). Gerstein here was: Maurizio Pustianaz. All the tracks have been cleaned, remixed and remastered from the original 4 tracks tape masters. The same process was carried out for the 10 bonus tracks. Among these, you can also find some unreleased versions of a few tracks from that album and an unreleased track from the period. Ltd x 500 copies in a gatefold digisleeve.
GENETIC TRANSMISSION - 'My Inspiration Is You' CD (Zoharum) - £11.50

This is the 12th chapter in the GENETIC TRANSMISSION Archive series, titled "My Inspiration Is You". The material was originally released in 2004 on a CDR in a strictly limited edition, in a special bandage packaging, made by Tomasz Twardawa. The effect was so interesting that one of the copies ended up on display at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Barcelona. "My Inspiration Is You" is an intense, massive album, created (as the musician himself wrote about it) from fury, pain and hatred. Industrial / Electroacoustic / Noise compositions with samples from David Lynch's Eraserhead. Ltd x 200 copies in a gatefold ecopak, with art based on photos by Maciej Mutwil (Dead Factory).
SÁNDOR VÁLY - 'Early Works 1988-1992' CD (Unexplained Sounds) - £12

A raw sonic document of exile, trauma, and transformation, this CD collects early works by Hungarian artist Sándor Vály, recorded between 1988 and 1992. Created using homemade instruments, rudimentary electronics, and cassette gear in Budapest and Helsinki, these tracks trace a turbulent path through desertion, psychiatric confinement, political escape, and cultural rebirth. Inspired by the Tibetan Book of the Dead and personal upheaval, 'Bardo Tödol I-II', 'SoulDrum', and other recordings evoke a haunting inner journey between life, death, and renewal. "A collection of vintage tracks which oscillate between grainy electronic harshness and ecstatic droning mantras. The result admits mesmeric moments with efficient psycho-acoustic effects and darkened sound ritualism" (Igloo Magazine). Ltd x 100 copies (CD proper) in a 6-panel matt-laminate digipak.
P.T.A.O. / SEDEM MINÚT STRACHU - 'Let's Twist With...' MCD (Abhorrent Creation Tapes) - £10

Czech Noisecore legends P.T.A.O. (Pár Tecek A Otazník... or "...?") have been destroying speakers and giving people headaches since the 90s. Here, they pair up for a second time with Sedem Minút Strachu, contenders for the new noisiest band in Europe, delivering hundreds of tuneless grind / noisecore tracks, probably, in less than 11 minutes. Sometimes structured, but always free of melody, you can expect nothing less (or more) than pulverizing noisecore insanity. P.T.A.O.'s releases are pretty sporadic, bizarre and sought after, so get on this. Ltd x 500 copies.
MAGIC OHM - 'The Sukajan' LP (ADN) - £18

This work has been created by Jerome Genin (alias Magic Aum Gigi alias Diza Star). The music goes back to the golden Krautrock years and is dedicated to early Popol Vuh and Faust. The record thus shows two complementary sides, conceptually and musically different. The first side, called Attraction side, is fully electronic, thematically "attractive", with a subversive magnetisation. The first track includes an unpredictable variation on the Faust song 'J'ai mal aux dents'. The second track of this side can be seen as a kind of bridge between the two other tracks; somewhere in the same way as in his legendary album "Inventions For Electric Guitar", Manuel Göttsching placed in the middle the track 'Quasarsphere' (which also sounds totally different than the two others). This short track was not conceived with Göttsching in mind but with Richard H. Kirk of Cabaret Voltaire. The second side, called Bell side, is undoubtedly the result of a strange mechanical and symbiotic alchemy with a long improvisation of 20 minutes of a celestial nature coming from a Popol Vuh sample, which is also a tribute to Florian Fricke. In the end, a contemplative, dualistic album, originated from the emanations of Krautrock, experimental music, and the cosmic underground. Ltd x 300 copies.
