MARC AND THE MAMBAS - 'Three Black Nights Of Little Black Bites'
Ltd 2LP Black / Red Splatter (sold out) | Ltd Red 2LP £28 Adv | Black 2LP £25 Adv - OUT 8th AUG.
The complete recordings of the legendary Marc And The Mambas run of three live performances given at The Duke Of York's Theatre in London's West End in 1983. Restored from the original VHS tape recordings made by the late Peter 'Sleazy' Christopherson (Throbbing Gristle, Coil), these remain the only recordings that exist of Marc And The Mambas performing live.
Originally released in 2012 on Marc Almond's (Soft Cell) own Strike Force Entertainment label as a CD/DVD set (long sold out), this edition, presented on vinyl for the first time, contains the 17 tracks from the SFE CD release, expanded to include the two bonus DVD-only tracks: 'Près Des Ramparts De Séville' and 'Jacky'. Completely remastered for vinyl by Martin Bowes (The Cage Studios).
A combination of the chanson and torch songs which he still sings today, over piano, strings and woodwind-accompanied compositions. "It's quite a spectacle, especially when Almond hits his sweet spot of sinister lyrics, declared pompously over a droned string arrangement... Early signs of the full-on showtune and classical rearrangements that make up Almond's current albums are evident"(Record Collector).
Presented on heavyweight double vinyl in a deluxe glossy gatefold sleeve featuring the extensive reminiscence by Marc Almond himself from the 2012 release.
Also included is a reproduction of the 16-page programme printed for the three concerts in 1983. The stunning cover painting by Val Denham is exclusive to this release.

ANDREW OSTLER - 'The Blind Sublime'
CD £11.50 - OUT NOW!

Andrew Ostler continues his artistic evolution towards choral beauty, orchestral textures, ambient drones and low woodwind, into the realms of Jóhann Jóhannsson, Arvo Pärt or Stars Of The Lid.
Building on the string arrangements of his previous LP "Dots On A Disk Of Snow", and taking a heavy dose of sax drone from an earlier album still, this record also adds a full choir, taking the music to another level of spiritual intensity.
"This is music of transcendence, and perhaps transformation... A glimpse of something profound: not merely music, but a reflection of the sublime itself - blind, unknowable, and utterly captivating" (Chain D.L.K.).
On the first three compositions the drones are, for the most part, relatively gentle, while chant-like choral arrangements drift and weave around and above them. 'Affirmation' is quietly confident, with a surge of intensity around the midpoint; 'Confession' is perhaps more tentative, the shifting canon of the voices threatened by a distant storm of distorted synth shredding; 'Adoration' restores the straightforward choral beauty, building to an unashamed cadence.
The immense final track 'Meditation' is a quite different affair. Here the drones are more intense slabs, the choir is more demonstrative in its emotion, and the ultimate climax the more devastating for it. The journey is longer, but the rewards are greater for the committed.
Originally released on Andrew Ostler's own Expert Sleepers label on limited edition blue vinyl last year, Cold Spring are very proud to press this gem onto CD for the first time.

IGGOR CAVALERA / SHANE EMBURY - 'Neon Gods / Own Your Darkness'
CD £11 | LP BLACK SOLD OUT | LP White £24 - OUT NOW!
Two legendary titans of the extreme metal scene - IGGOR CAVALERA (Cavalera Conspiracy / Petbrick / founding member of Sepultura) and SHANE EMBURY (Napalm Death / Dark Sky Burial) - join forces for this unique split of brooding dark ambient, industrial strength noise, and heavy synth-laden electronics, creating what feels like the lost soundtrack to some dystopian fever dream.
Setting the tone for this double-headed behemoth with creeping, cinematic dark ambience, IGGOR CAVALERA's side-long 'Neon Gods' unfolds into a brutal sonic nightmare. Equal measures of dread and anguish come together with the occasional reprieve of slow, pulsating drones and almost meditative waves of static. The crescendo of harsh industrial noise with heavy Death Industrial vocalisation is nothing short of pummelling.
"Neon Gods is a bit of a sonic trip, with different layers of atmospheric vibrations, from darkness to light. It's an absolute pleasure to do this split release with Shane, I believe we share a lot of similar ideas when it comes to opening our mind to different styles of sounds" (IC).
SHANE EMBURY's 'Own Your Darkness' merges menacing, pitch-black dark ambient and hypnotic bass swells with celestial synth lines that subtly lurk around the peripheries. Rising and falling, ebbing and flowing - until finally the all-encompassing apocalyptic bleakness, the enveloping darkness, closes in around you.
"Iggor and I have been good friends for decades and this is a record very different for us both but amazing! A very interesting track to make, it was my first experiment with the Solar 42. An excellent synth for those eternal drones of despair and was assisted my long time colleague Russ Russell. As I journey ever onward in through my individuation it's imperative that I own my own darkness... hence the title. We all need to strive for balance and to kindle a light in the darkness of being" (SE).

MARTYN WARE (HEAVEN 17) & CHARLES STOOKE & GABRIEL WARE
CD £11.50 - OUT NOW!

An experimental dive into aquatic and industrial rhythms, this is the original soundscape to the highly-successful, immersive installation "It's Always Ourselves We Find In The Sea" (premiere at The Saatchi Gallery) composed for 3D ambisonic sound by: MARTYN WARE (HEAVEN 17, B.E.F., ex-THE HUMAN LEAGUE), CHARLES STOOKE, and GABRIEL WARE.
Produced by Illustrious (Martyn Ware and Vince Clark of Erasure), with environmental and immersive design by Oscar Blustin and Anna Söderblom, the installation invites visitors into a contemplative space; a quiet, peaceful temple to water, within which the soundscape exists. Listeners enter and explore the space in their own time, letting the sounds wash over them, experiencing the stories and musical motifs as they build and gather then subside like the tide.
Taking a cue both from UNESCO's Ocean Literacy initiative and the UN's Sustainable Development Goal 14 - Life Below Water - "It's Always Ourselves We Find In The Sea" offers visitors an opportunity to consider their relationship with water, and to step back out into the world with an altered perspective on its value and cultural significance.
The soundscape is a looping experience, divided into two parts:
Part One - A Call To Water: This section explores our human relationship with anthropomorphised Water - throughout the history of our species and all across the globe, humankind has petitioned the deities of the sky and the sea for the benediction of rain and for deliverance from natural disasters.
Part Two - The Water Circle: Water is crucial for all life on earth to exist and thrive. In this part, we witness the storm's deluge on the land, water cascading in streams, then rivers and finally to the sea. The beauty and mystery of the oceans culminates in the process of evaporation and the creation of clouds, which continue the eternal cycle of water.

CD £10.50 |

|
SATØRI's mission to document the stupidity of our species continues with "Pillars of Salt" - a journey through grinding rhythms, dystopian soundscapes and a fascination into what lies beneath the surface.
"An aberrant signal. Data loss. Corrupted programming. Everything should be fine. But it isn't, is it? Everything is f**ked. Something has gotten into the system and is destroying it from within. This is humanity being consumed by the inability to think for itself. Ahead is the future. Just don't look back..."
Formed in the mid-80's, with releases on high-calibre labels such as Broken Flag, Cold Spring, and Tesco Org., SATØRI's sound comprises a mixture of harsh Industrial noise and power electronics with harder and heavy percussive beats. Their material provides a constant pervasive undercurrent of violence, the feeling of a planet on the verge of collapse and a reflection of the lack of humanity embedded in a culture based on greed and self-preservation.
Guest: Lorenzo Abattoir. Producer:Andy Swan (Khost, Final, Tactical Pagan).

The fifth album from industrial / esoteric electronic alchemist Colossloth is a concept album based on the writings of professor Ted Kaczynski AKA the Unabomber. It is not about his terror campaign against the industrial society and the rise of technology - but his manifesto "Industrial Society And Its Future" and in particular the elements of "The Power Process".
"With "The Harmony Knife", Colossloth is cutting through to the bone and sinew of Man's chronic, species-specific dissatisfaction, and the causes thereof. He is laying bare humankind's inability to solve its own, self-created problems, to meet its basic needs, and to achieve even those goals clearly within its reach.
With "The Harmony Knife", Colossloth seizes these ideas and sonically extrapolates the implications of humankind's failure to satisfy even our most rudimentary needs. He creates an auditory landscape examining our repeated inability to focus our efforts on fundamental goals to ensure even a measure of happiness or contentment. Humanity's inability to live rather than merely exist" (Jake Shell).

Available for the first time outside USSR, Soviet composers perform their works on the legendary ANS synthesizer.
Recorded in 1969, "Электронная Музыка АНС (ANS Electronic Music)' features 6 tracks of experiments on the unique machine by: Eduard Artemiev, Stanislav Kreitchi, Sándor Kallós, and Alexander Nemtin. A 'musical' machine unlike any other which has long fascinated cutting edge, modern electronic composers, notably COIL and TAGC / CLOCK DVA, that have both released recordings utilising the ANS.
Inside the ANS are five rotating glass discs with 144 tones printed (by hand) on each one. Light is projected through the discs and onto photovoltaic cellbank which converts the light into electricity and sends signals to the ANS's amplifiers and bandpass filters. ANS can generate 720 tones and, unlike a human musician, play them all at the same time.
Soviet music lovers will already know recordings made on ANS from Tarkovsky's films Solaris, The Mirror, and Stalker, Konchalovsky's film Siberiade, and others.

400 LONELY THINGS - 'Subdivisions' CD (Unexplained Sounds) - £12
What sets 400 Lonely Things apart is its ability to turn seemingly mundane or discarded sonic artifacts into evocative, almost cinematic experiences. The project's work resonates with fans of dark ambient, hauntology, and experimental sound design, offering a gateway into worlds where time has fractured and memories linger like spectral echoes. "Subdivisions", the latest album from 400 Lonely Things, marks a departure from the project's conceptual and thematic approaches of the past. For the first time, there is no overarching narrative, no predefined agenda, just music existing in its purest form. Each track functions like a memory of a memory, a fleeting impression untethered to any specific story or framework. These pieces are nebulous journal entries, capturing the essence of a time, a place, and a mood. 400 Lonely Things employs a variety of occasional instrumentation but primarily uses obscure sampling to weave mostly instrumental melodic collages of melancholic texture and psychedelic drone. These weathered, loop-based introspective forays border on hauntology, dark ambient, experimental, electronic, and plunderphonics. Ltd x 200 copies in a 6-panel matt digipak.

ACHERONTAS - 'NEKYIA - The Necromantic Patterns' CD (Zazen Sounds) - £12
Acherontas (boasting members of Shibalba, Akrabu, Crimson Moon, Devathorn) stands as one of the foremost torchbearers of the second wave of Greek Black Metal, deeply rooted in the traditions of the original Hellenic scene while channelling mysticism, magic, occult arts, and ritual. These are not mere influences but the very lifeblood of Acherontas, forming the essence of its image, the pulse of its sound, and the breath of its lyrical invocations. Beyond music, the Coven remains devoted to the path of esoteric philosophy, occult praxis, and spiritual transmutation. "NEKYIA - The Necromantic Patterns" marks a descent into the chthonic realms of transcendence, where the veils of mortality are torn asunder, revealing the hidden currents that weave existence. A ceremonial odyssey through the labyrinthine corridors of Death and Rebirth, this opus embodies the sacred rites of Dissolution and Ascension, invoking the wisdom of the ancients and the spectral echoes of forgotten aeons. Each hymn within this work serves as an invocation, a key to unlocking the forgotten pathways of Necromantic Revelation. A work of ritualistic resonance and spiritual upheaval, this album is a testament to the Ineffable Truth - one that lies beyond creeds, beyond dogma, beyond the illusion of structured reality. Truth is a pathless land, and "NEKYIA - The Necromantic Patterns" is the sigil that illuminates the way. 8-panel digisleeve.

ANGLACHEL - 'Of Tuor, Idril And Their Departure From Gondolin - Deluxe Edition' CD (FYCR) - £12
Anglachel is a Dungeon Synth project by Admetos (Elegos, Faunus), drawing inspiration from the world of J.R.R. Tolkien. "Of Tuor, Idril And their Departure From Gondolin" is a musical journey to the First Age of Tolkien's legendarium. The dark story of the fall of Gondolin and the departure of Tuor and Idril through their secret way to safety, finally sailing to Valinor. Anglachel presents the second, powerful part of their story; darker, more epic and more mature. It blends atmospheric and medieval-inspired sounds to capture the the journey, with tales of loss, resilience, and the passage into the unknown, staying true to the themes of the original tale. "I wanted to capture the feeling of a world on the edge of ruin, using layered synth textures, dark melodies, and a sense of movement that mirrors the story's events... building an atmosphere that feels both ancient and cinematic". This is a reissue of their debut full-length album (2019), with an exclusive bonus track "In Solitude I Wander", solidifying its status as a classic album within the Dungeon Synth community. Ltd x 200 copies in a 6-panel digipack. The first 100 copies (this) come in a special Deluxe Edition with two stickers and a monogram patch.

BRANDKOMMANDO - 'Enslavement' CD (Zoharum) - £11.50
Karol Wachowski, who stands behind the Power Electronics project Brandkommando, does not lose his power of expression, revealing subsequent manifestos, asking difficult questions. He provokes listeners to redefine old messages, to reject established beliefs, and at the same time mercilessly criticizes all systems that limit personal freedom, this applies to issues from the world of politics, especially from the one dominated by totalitarian power, as well as by spiritual leaders of various denominations around the world. "Enslavement" is actually a grim vision of the enslavement of the human mind, subjected to constant indoctrination, using all possible techniques of manipulation and demotivation. Such an approach to the subject equals the status of religious organizations and the most cruel political regimes. However, it is not about the content itself, because apart from the layer of meaning, Karol attaches great importance to the compositions themselves, recording subsequent materials with equal attention to sound, detail, while maintaining enough space for the implementation of increasingly interesting ideas, letting in a little more light, as a counterpoint to more radical fragments. Nothing happens here by chance. Ltd x 300 copies in a 6-panel ecopak.

CALIGULA031 & TAETER - 'Escalation' CD (Cipher Productions) - £12
Collaborative album by two monsters of Italian Power Electronics / Noise: Caligula031 (aka Marco Deplano, also of Wertham) and Taeter (aka Nicola Vinciguerra of Tisbor / Fecalove). Seedy, disgusting Italian power electronics filled to the brim with diegeses of abuse, public humiliation, drugs, self deprecation, decay and spite. Road to ruin, total f*cking annihilation. Caligula031 and Taeter share vocals and sound duties. You'll want to wash yourself after this one. Ltd x 300 copies in a digipak with art by Nicola Vinciguerra.

CAPRICORNI PNEUMATICI - 'Witchcraft' CD (Eighth Tower Records / Unexplained Sounds) - £12
Mysterious and magmatic dark ambient from Italian duo Capricorni Pneumatici who started in 1987, taking their name from an Aleister Crowley book. The track Witchcraft was originally released by SSS Production on a C25 cassette in 1989. Eighth Tower Records brings to light, re-releasing on CD, this esoteric industrial gem by Capricorni Pneumatici, along with three entirely unreleased tracks. Witchcraft was largely inspired by reading the Compendium Maleficarum by Francesco Maria Guazzo from 1608, in a copy of the famous 1929 Rodker edition edited by Montague Summers. The track was created using the DX7 synth, tapes to manipulate field recordings sounds, and a soprano saxophone recorded in an underground environment "The Cave", where the recordings of CP1 and Al-Azif were made. Larger parts of the sax sessions recorded in the cave were later published in "Vala, or the Four Zoas" (Second Zoa) a few months later. A-Thele-ber-Seth and A-Ro-Go-Go-Ru were recorded around the end of 1987 and attached to the zine Zos-Kia, Vol.2. The first piece was inspired by Kabbalistic rituals (as per texts published in that issue of Zos-Kia), while the second refers to Voodoo cults. These two tracks were printed on a cassette exclusively attached to the zine Zos-Kia, sold in a run of 100 copies in an esoteric bookstore in the Porta Venezia area of Milan. Schmumm, on the other hand, was recorded a little more than a year after Witchcraft. The track makes extensive use of field recordings made in London and other locations. The recordings were then edited and processed in a studio in Winchester. The whole thing was then re-edited, reprocessed, and combined with recordings secretly made in the church of a medieval village in Calabria (Southern Italy), while local women chanted "spells". Ltd x 200 copies in a 6-panel matt digipak.

COMICIDE 24 - 'Chronic Transfusion' CD (Zoharum) - £11.50
Founded in the early 80's by Stephen Ah Burroughs (TUNNELS OF AH, FRAG) and Eric Jurenovskis, soon after expanding its line-up, transformed into HEAD OF DAVID, one of the most influential musical groups, combining punk energy with industrial grind. Today, they are often considered the progenitors of GODFLESH, because it was J.K. Broadrick's playing in their line-up that gave him the impetus to operate under this name. In their short life, COMICIDE played several concerts (including alongside CON-DOM). Brought back to life after almost three decades of silence, "Chronic Transfusion" is actually the project's full-length debut album. Six tracks with an industrial edge, built from electronic preparations, sonic manipulations, selected through experiment. A release full of emotional charge, with a large amplitude of intensity, from slightly brighter fragments, resounding in ambient melodies, through drones growing and pulsating, like electricity, to intensive, massive fragments, constituting a counterpoint and giving the right rhythm and narrative, at the same time defining the framework in which the publication is enclosed as a well-thought-out, coherent and full album of the project. The slightly lo-fi sound, breaking reverberation, noise and grinding, fully achieves the intended goal during the recording process. Ltd x 300 copies in a 6-panel digisleeve.

DAVID JACKMAN - 'Steadfast' 2 x CD (Die Stadt) - £15
Even though David Jackman gets the credit in the title, the music itself is pure Organum electronics - dense and noisy. Emerging as a meditative gesture within the long and enigmatic arc of Jackman's output, "Steadfast" stands as both a summation and a deepening of concerns that have occupied him for decades. The release captures Jackman at a moment of stark clarity and quiet force. His legacy, shaped through collaborations with figures like David Tibet and Steven Stapleton, has always occupied a space between austerity and intensity, drawing on minimalism, drone, and ritualised abstraction to forge a language uniquely his own. On "Steadfast" we find a music that is neither strictly acoustic nor electronic, but something in between; an environment, a slow unfolding. Analogue synthesizers swell and recede like distant weather systems; field recordings and incidental sounds rise with spectral insistence before dissolving again into silence. There is a patience here, a sense of refusal, of staying with the sound long after others might have let go. Moments verge on the imperceptible, only to bloom suddenly into passages of engulfing texture. Rather than a document of change, "Steadfast" feels like a portrait of duration, of persistence in listening and making. For those familiar with the ceremonial gravity of Organum or the liminal poetics of Nurse With Wound, this work may feel at once familiar and startlingly new - a quiet epiphany from one of the most singular voices in experimental sound. Ltd x 500 copies in a gatefold digisleeve.
|
DRIFT - 'Diazepam' CD (Eighth Tower Records / Unexplained Sounds) - £12
Drift, the ambient music project led by Gabriele Giuliani, originally active from 1995 1999 and recently revived after a lengthy hiatus, has become a significant name in the realm of isolationist ambient music. Drift's compositions are often described as stark and minimalist, while the project's albums have been lauded for their ultra-bleak soundscapes, characterized by extended, immersive tracks that evoke a sense of desolation, cementing Drift's status as a cult figure in the genre. The album "Diazepam", originally released in 1996 on a C60 cassette by SSSM label, has now been reissued and remastered, and also includes a newly composed, previously unpublished 17-minute track from 2024. Gabriele Giuliani also records as Dead Body Love and Discordance. Ltd x 200 copies in a 6-panel matt digipak.

HANZO HASASHI - 'The Ceremony' CD (Cipher Productions) - £12
The quality of Hanzo Hasashi's discography is evident to all those who have waded into it. Constructed with care and a unique sense of auditory space, "The Ceremony" churns fragments of snatched sound and treated noise molecules into uncomfortable, and unstable and disrupted loops - to then weave and layer those lines into the project's typically dynamic compositions. A study of beauty in disruption, of stability in impermanence. Mastered by Grant Richardson (Gnawed). Ltd x 100 copies (CD proper) in a jewelcase, with art by Hasashi.

KOKUM - 'Obscured Instinct And The Pale Folklore' CD (Eighth Tower Records / Unexplained Sounds) - £12
An evocative sonic journey crafted by the Hungarian musician, Kokum. This album traverses the shadowy corridors of dark folk music and the pulsating rhythms of new wave post-industrial soundscapes, creating an otherworldly and mesmerizing experience. Kokum, a visionary artist who utilizes only his voice, field recordings, and the sounds of everyday objects, manipulates these elements with a myriad of electronic effects, blending organic and synthetic sounds into a seamless, immersive narrative. The album's atmosphere evokes the rituals of an ancient, unidentified tribe whose origins remain shrouded in mystery, possibly from a forgotten corner of Earth, or perhaps from an entirely different planet hinting at a fusion of primordial wisdom and futuristic knowledge. "Obscured Instinct and the Pale Folklore" is a compelling exploration of primordial and timeless instincts where the past converges with cults of the future. "KOKUM take us into the realm of dark ambient, leading to caverns lined with bones of unknown origin, as if pulled straight from an ancient pagan horror tale" (Electronic Beats). Ltd x 200 copies in a 6-panel matt digipak.

METGUMBNERBONE - 'The Morden Tower Conjurations' Cassette (Infinite Fog Productions) - £18
Rare archive recording of Metgumbnerbone - the cult ritual industrial formation founded by John Mylotte and a rotating group of performers including Richard Rupenus (The New Blockaders), Philip Rupenus, Sean Breadin (Sedayne), and Mike Watson. "The Morden Tower Conjurations" has, until now, only been available as an unofficial release, mistakenly credited to Citipati. This is the first official release of this collection of tracks, culled from a session at Morden Tower in 1983. These conjurations took place with a view to, perhaps, becoming the first Metgumbnerbone LP. Soon after, further summonings were undertaken in an abandoned railway tunnel and the band thought they would make a better first album. Not long after that the celebrants enacted their duplicitous mummery once again within the ruins of industry which, of course, did become their first LP "Ligeliahorn". The tunnel summonings formed the backbone of "Druen", and "The Morden Tower Conjurations" were all but forgotten about. Now, let us journey forth in time some forty English years and we get to wondering about whatever happened to those early recordings. An initial inspection of THE METGUMBNERVAULTS proved unfruitful. Richard Rupenus had made the original recordings but, unfortunately, didn't know what had become of them. However, he did remember that he had made a copy of said recordings at the time for someone who had been there. Bone-coloured cassette shell, with j-card sleeve. Very few copies in stock!

PAOLO L. BANDERA - 'Riconnessione Iconoclastica Sacrale' CD (Unexplained Sounds) - £12
Italy's Paolo L. Bandera has been propagating unconventional sounds and deviated cultural streams for decades with SIGILLUM S, together with Eraldo Bernocchi and other various acolytes. On top of this, he has been generating noise textures in solo configuration as SSHE RETINA STIMULANTS, and participating in many mutant projects by friends (THE SODALITY, IUGULA-THOR, ENSEMBLE SACRE GARCONS, SIDRA and more). "[The album] discusses the reconnection (Riconnessione) with divine urges obscured by iconoclastic power, in erotic-mystical ecstasy, and a longing that screams from nostalgia to wish fulfilment, feminine in the 'Church of the Virgin' and radically environmentally conscious. Accompanied by archetypal animal symbols, mental coordinates, key emotions, and multisensory performances - like his own. It seeks to reform the light inside and outside, through a gravitational bending of electromagnetic waves by massive bodies, a subject of present and future catastrophes that become super dense and act as lenses. With droning glissando curves, dystopian impressions, through iron-like percussive sounds, a roaring, "breathing", abyssal groaning or singing wave. From resignation to sacred Risorgimento. With whistling and roaring wooshes, a slow, donging heartbeat, an organ-like sustained tone. Nietzsche's The World Is Deep comes to mind... But from this deep dream, it has not yet awakened, trapped in nightmarish loops, disturbed by alarms" (Bad Alchemy). Ltd x 200 copies in a 6-panel matt digipak.

SHIBALBA - 'Nekrologie Sinistrae (Orchestra Noise Opus II)' CD (Zazen Sounds) - £12
The second chapter of the "Nekrologie Sinistrae - Orchestra Noise Opus II" (the first chapter was released 2022). As the eternal Suns of Ma'at blaze through the inner sanctums of Self, Nekrologie Sinistrae guides the listener through the initiatic spiral - where torment, silence, and divine ecstasy converge. This is not merely an album; it is a sacred odyssey, an offering that stares into the abyss of Thanatos and pierces it with the rose spear of Life Eternal. In a vortex of esoteric vibrations and ceremonial soundscapes, Shibalba performs an act of sonic alchemy - dissolving the veil between life and death, merging the metaphysical opposites of the Therion and the Knight. Here, Death and Life embrace as lovers, dancing beneath the gaze of the One King who reigns over both Moon and Sun. This is music for the sacred rites of Becoming and Over-Becoming. A breath and a cry. A mirror of the agonizing beauty that lies within transcendent transformation. 6-panel digisleeve. Already sold out from the label!

VÄÄRISTYMÄ - '2014-2024' CD (Unexplained Sounds) - £12
Finnish artists Janne Liimatainen and Jarko Hedenius began to experiment with computers in 1992. They later transitioned to analogue synthesizers, which they eventually abandoned to focus on building their own synthesizers and sequencers. This collection explores VÄäristymä's productions over the last decade, most of which had been scattered in non-formats, including four live tracks. The collection includes 'Tulppaveto', minimalistic and subtly sinister, with a shadowy tone, and 'Hullunarkku', resonant and dreamily spatial. The majority of the material comes from the previous decade, such as 'Radiopurkaus', icy yet hallucinatory, and 'Ennen Muuta', with a distancing rhythmic component that seems unhesitant in taking up the mantle of Pan Sonic. Similarly, 'Valvoo' features occasional melodic fragments that emerge with extended sporadicity; 'Äyriäissumu' offers a rubbery texture with glitch distortions and a remote mechanical backdrop. Noteworthy is 'Kvanttiteleportaatio', which opens up to an emotional depth unmatched elsewhere in the compilation, while 'Epäluulo' presents a disjointed abstraction accompanied by a material loop. "VÄäristymä's music ought to cause the radars of those much attuned to the sounds of the Revenant Sea to start tweaking incessantly, for somewhere out there this darkly shrouded leviathanic colossus stirs from the shadows, its echoing opines as old as time, its call sign chill dipped in brooding desolation, its space without end, containment or boundary. Here a mournful majesty unfurls amid the spectral detail of the sparsely set aching arcs, haunting yet hymnal in resonance and very much nodding to the work of Bebe and Louis Baron" (Mark Barton). Ltd x 200 copies in a 6-panel matt digipak.

VARIOUS ARTISTS - '10th Annual Report - The Anniversary Edition' CD (Unexplained Sounds) - £12
Unexplained Sound turns 10! Ten years of aural disorientation and exploration in the field of the most experimental and adventurous music from the international panorama, involving hundreds of projects from over 70 countries across the globe. A journey marked by passion and dedication, enthusiasm and effort, cultural exchange, and intellectual challenges. This 10th-anniversary CD release consists of 75 minutes, including some artists who have appeared on previous Unexplained Sounds Group releases in addition to newcomers, exploring new sounds and sonic structures that do not adhere to traditional notions of composition or performance. "In times of peace, the warlike man attacks himself. This is the root of all our problems... our confusion, our anger, our fear of things we do not understand". This reflection on the sentiments that undergird societal unrest is particularly relevant today. The album's thematic focus can be seen as a response to Nietzsche's observation if not a reappropriation thereof. Using music permeated with tension, it proceeds through a journey of introspection and discovery - a pathway to enlightenment by coming to terms with and embracing the novel and unknown. Drone / Noise / Cinematic Ambient / Experimental sounds from: Mario Lino Stancati, SITKA, MoCM & Schema Musicalis, Kate Bosworth & Hendekagon, Robin Parmar, Trampelfâd, Susan Campos Fonseca, Irving Paul Pereira, Loo(p)cy, Michael Grunditz, TRSv2, Scientia And Tenebrae, and Paulo Motta. VARIOUS ARTISTS - 'Drone Islands - Borealis' CD (Eighth Tower Records / Unexplained Sounds) - £12
Fourth volume in the Drone Islands series, after "Stellar" (2021), "Land Rising" (2019) and "The Lost Maps" (2020). Deep explorations into the realm of droning music. While the Aurora Borealis, or Northern Lights, is largely celebrated as a breathtaking natural wonder, it also has a more eerie, unexplained, and sinister side that has perplexed and unsettled observers for centuries. The strange, flickering lights have long been steeped in mystique, inspiring tales of supernatural forces, spirits, and even foreboding omens. In the quiet of the Arctic night, where the lights can seem to pulse with an almost otherworldly energy, it's easy to understand why ancient peoples feared these glowing veils in the sky. But even in modern times, one of the most eerie characteristics of the Aurora Borealis is the occasional sounds that accompany it. There have been numerous reports, particularly from indigenous Arctic communities and polar explorers, of mysterious noises - like faint crackling, hissing, or even whispers - heard during intense auroral displays. For centuries, these sounds were dismissed as folklore or the product of imagination, given that the aurora occurs at altitudes far above where sound could reasonably be produced or heard. However, in recent years, scientists have begun to investigate this acoustic anomaly. Some researchers suggest that certain atmospheric conditions might allow for faint electrical discharges at lower altitudes, producing these sounds in sync with the lights. Despite these theories, no definitive explanation has been found, leaving this eerie auditory element of the Northern Lights shrouded in mystery. Ominous Dark Ambient, windswept Drones, slow-moving synths, and strange soundscapes from: Kloob, Mario Lino Stancati, Michael Bonaventure, Nerthus, Yousef Kawar, Rauðvik, [ówt krì], Sílení, and Vacuum Within. Ltd x 200 copies in a 6-panel matt digipak.

VARIOUS ARTISTS - 'Solaris. Music Inspired By Andrei Tarkowsky's Movie' CD (Eighth Tower Records / Unexplained Sounds) - £12
Few films in the history of cinema have achieved the haunting, meditative power of Andrei Tarkovsky's Solaris (1972). This masterpiece of science fiction transcends the genre's typical preoccupation with technology and speculative futures, reaching instead into the depths of human consciousness, memory, and the aching poetry of the unknown. Solaris unfolds slowly, its deliberate pacing inviting viewers to sink into the vast silences and lingering imagery that define Tarkovsky's cinematic language. Long tracking shots through rain-soaked landscapes and the dim corridors of the space station evoke a sense of isolation and introspection. The film's visual and aural textures work in harmony, crafting an atmosphere where memory feels as palpable as the physical environment. This immersive quality is heightened by the sparse yet evocative electronic score by Eduard Artemyev, whose droning soundscapes and abstract compositions mirror the psychological disorientation experienced by the characters. This compilation is a tribute to Tarkovsky's vision, an attempt to translate the enigmatic beauty of Solaris into a sonic experience. Each track, like the planet's ocean, reflects fragments of memory and imagination, evoking both wonder and melancholy. The music contained here draws from the textures of ambient, drone, and experimental electronics, mirroring the film's hypnotic pacing and its exploration of the liminal spaces between waking and dreaming. In these compositions, you may hear the echoes of Kelvin's (the main character) sorrow, the undulating mystery of Solaris, and the endless dance between presence and absence. To immerse oneself in Solaris is to embark on a journey without easy answers. Likewise, this collection of music invites you to drift into the unknown, to embrace the mysteries that lie beneath the surface of sound, and to discover, perhaps, something of your own subconscious reflected back at you. Features: Psychophysicist (Adi Newton of Clock DVA / TAGC), 400 Lonely Things, Kloob. Mario Lino Stancati, Michael Bonaventure, Phoanøgramma, Yousef Kawar, Rauðvik, Sílení, Solaris, Mark Hjorthoy, and Zzoneman. Ltd x 200 copies in a 6-panel matt digipak.

VARIOUS ARTISTS - 'The Neuromancers. Music Inspired By William Gibson's Universe' CD (Unexplained Sounds) - £12
As the father of cyberpunk, William Gibson imagined a world where technology and society collide, blurring the boundaries between human and machine, individual and system. His novels, particularly Neuromancer, painted a dystopian future where sprawling megacities pulse with neon, corporations rule from the shadows, and cyberspace serves as both playground and battlefield, with technology is a tool of empowerment and control, a paradox that resonates deeply in our contemporary world. The term cyberspace, which he coined, feels more real than ever in today's internet-driven world. We live in a time where virtual spaces are as important as physical ones, where our identities shift between digital avatars and flesh-and-blood selves. The rapid rise of AI, neural interfaces, and virtual reality feels like a prophecy fulfilled as though we've stepped into the pages of a Gibson novel. Much like Gibson's writing, the music in this compilation embraces technology not only as a tool but as a medium of expression. It's no coincidence that many of the artists featured here draw from electronic, industrial, and experimental music scenes genres that have consistently pushed the boundaries of sound and technology: Adi Newton (Clock DVA / TAGC), Dead Voices On Air, Sigillum S, Mario Lino Stancati, Joel Gilardini, Oubys, NYORAI, Tescon Pol, Phoanøgramma, Richard Bégin, Andre Úhl, and Wahn. These tracks serve as a sonic exploration of Gibson's vision, translating the technological, dystopian landscapes of his novels into sound. Just as Gibson envisioned a future where humanity and machines converge, the artists in this compilation fuse organic and synthetic sounds, analogue and digital techniques, to evoke the tensions of the world he foretold. Ltd x 200 copies in a 6-panel matt digipak.

VARIOUS ARTISTS - 'Ubikuitous - Music Inspired By Philip K. Dick's Dystopias' CD (Unexplained Sounds) - £12
Philip K. Dick's narratives are a cornerstone of dystopian literature, delving into complex and unsettling visions of the future where the boundaries of reality blur, personal autonomy is undermined, and humanity is redefined. His worlds are characterized by an intricate exploration of societal control, the fragility of identity, the consequences of drug use, and the implications of virtual reality. Dick's personal experiences with drug use inform much of his work and play an important role in examining the previous themes, lending authenticity to his depictions of altered states of consciousness and their societal implications. Philip K. Dick's work - in particular A Scanner Darkly (1977), Minority Report (1956), Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? (1968), Ubik (1969), and We Can Remember It For You Wholesale (1966), adapted into the film Total Recall - remains a cautionary beacon, warning of the perils of unchecked technological and societal evolution while affirming the enduring complexity and resilience of the human spirit. In this compilation of disorienting aural landscapes, Unexplained Sounds Group and the contributing musicians pay a heartfelt tribute to the dystopian visions of the great American writer. A guiding light for current and future generations of artists, his work challenges all who seek to uncover the hidden layers beneath the surface of apparent reality. Drone / Dark Ambient / Experimental and Acousmatic music from: Adi Newton (Clock DVA / TAGC), :Dead Voices On Air:Dadu:, Mario Lino Stancati, Bruno Dorella (OVO), Lars Bröndum, Oubys, Borda, VÄäristymä, Drift, Mark Hjorthoy, Phoan + Luca Ferro, Tescon Pol, Richard Bégin, and Tri:.obyte. ORGANUM / Z'EV - 'Temporal' CD (Die Stadt) - £13.50
"Temporal" is the third collaborative work from Organum and Z'EV, following "Tinnitus VU" on Touch and "Tocsin" on Die Stadt. Z'EV began reworking basic sound material from the Organum archive back in 2006, which resulted in a collaborative mixing of the material until early 2008. The finishing touches were then left to David Jackman between March and June 2008. The overall tone on "Temporal" is comparable to the 'classic' Organum sound; a multi-layered and intense listening experience. Ltd x 600 copies in a digisleeve.
|
ORGANUM / Z'EV - 'Tocsin -6 Thru +2' CD (Die Stadt) - £13.50
Following "Tinnitus Vu" (Touch, 2004), "Tocsin" is the first full length album by these two renowned sound artists. Whereas Z'EV simply reworked already existing work by David Jackman for "Tinnitus Vu", this time the artists agreed to both meet in the studio for "Tocsin". They created and recorded sounds from a piano and a stainless steel piece built by Z'EV circa 1989, over the course of several hours, took the recordings home, and after a period of each one mixing these sounds by themselves came up with what can be heard on this CD. Two distinctively different works by both artists which form a multi-layered and fascinating album. Design by Jonathan Coleclough. Ltd x 600 copies a digisleeve.

MASONNA Vs BANANAMARA - 'Shinsen Na Cl*toris' CD (Old Europa Cafe) - £12
Masonna is one of the early pioneers of Japanoise. This CD is the combined re-release of two classic first-era albums: "Masonna Vs. Bananamara" - the very first vinyl release originally produced by Vanilla Records, Japan in 1989... and "Shinsen Na Cl*toris"- the very first CD release originally produced by Vanilla Records in 1990. Masonna's sound is true harsh Japanese Noise but always inspired by psychedelic music and mainly performed using distorted vocals in a unique way. Masonna is also well known for his wild live performances which usually consist in damaging his equipment while jumping around and screaming, with concerts often last only few seconds... Ltd x 300 copies in a digipak with special psychoerotic artwork by Pontrad Studios based on the idea of mixing the two original album covers (explicit). |
TONE GENERATOR (SPK) & THE BODY WITHOUT ORGANS - 'Machine Learning' CD (4iB Records) - £12.50
Tone Generator (here with Scott Barnes) is Dominic Guerin - a somewhat infamous key contributor to the early classic industrial / noise era of SPK (late 1970's /early 1980's), and founding of industrial group Last Dominion Lost (with the late John Murphy). The artistic approach continues from where SPK left off, addressing the 'body without organs' concept of Gilles Deleuze. Their latest album deals with the Posthuman Future: "...accelerating towards developing technologies geared towards replacing flesh with biomechanical material, or downloading the digitised contents of human consciousness to a computerised neural network. What constitutes human life and consciousness is reduced to patterns of information that, with the aid of ever more sophisticated technology, can be manipulated into virtually limitless configurations. The human brain has effectively been reserve engineered , scanned and transferred into machine analogues and biohybrid robots... In the race to transcend our depraved all-to-human existence, into a glorious post-humanity that exceeds all limits, we repeat and perpetuate the age old dualism that rejects and denigrates the materiality of existence in favour of an incorporeal life as information. If there is more to humanity than immaterial, disembodied mind, then our dreams of transcendence may well come crashing back down to Earth. An Earth even more polluted and degraded by the excesses of the advanced technological civilisations desperate to escape it". Ltd x 300 copies in an 8-panel digipak with 4pp booklet. |

Recorded as a trio, the album features an impressive array of voices and folk / classical instruments. "...it demonstrates once more that Sangre de Muérdago still possess their inimitable ability to convey deep emotion through gorgeous music.
With O Vento Que Lambe As Minas Feridas, they've delivered another album rooted in a particular sense of place, while also managing to hint at the universal appeal of its themes.
Excellent" (Sputnik Music). Ltd x 400 copies on grey / black / white marbled vinyl with 24-page custom booklet and obi strip.

PATIENT K (KEVIN TOMKINS) - 'Slingshot' 2 x CD (4iB Records) - £16
Kevin Tomkins (Sutcliffe Jugend / Sutcliffe No More / ex-Whitehouse) returns with his third release as PATIENT K. CD1, 'Slingshot', is a song cycle featuring Tomkins's trademark lyrics and vocals. It's the final part of a trilogy that started with "Piss Artist", and followed up by "A Butterfly Drowned In Oil". This single 54-min track consists of songs and instrumentals linked into one long piece of music. CD2, 'Until The Last Breath Leaves The Body', is another longer piece, but very different to the title track. This consists of instrumentals flowing into each other, enveloped by drones, sounds and rhythms that overlap each other over the 50-min duration of the track. "Slingshot" is an essential release for fans of Tomkins's SJ / SNM work. Ltd x 200 copies in a 6-panel digisleeve with 4-page booklet, beautifully presented with paintings supplied by Patient K |
ROBERT HAIGH - 'Tempus Fugit: Rare and Unreleased' CD (Siren Records) - £14.50
The tracks on Robert Haigh's trilogy of piano solo albums ('Notes And Crossings', 'Anonymous Lights', and 'Strange And Secret Things') and 'The Silence Of Ghosts' (2015) were carefully selected with consideration for the flow and development of the project. Inevitably some tracks did not fit a particular album and they have remained unreleased regardless of their high quality. The original plan for the 'Tempus Fugit' release was, as the subtitle suggests, to collect and assemble rare and unreleased tracks into an album. In the process, Robert noticed that the project was developing into an album that had a flow and narrative of its own. Considering the structure and progression of the album, he carefully curated ten pieces from his recording archives (including three unreleased tracks from the 'Unseen Worlds' period) and arranged them into a unique album with its own sense of flow. "Tempus Fugit" will be a parting gift to those who have followed his works while at the same time, a useful selection as "a young person's guide to Robert Haigh" to those who have yet to open the door of his music. Distant and plaintive piano melody evolves, ghostly harmonies, reverb soaked landscapes, fragile descending chords; a slow-moving ambient trip across a misty and shadowy terrain, slowly fading to silence. And the silence is significant as Robert is insistent that there will be no more releases after this. Mastered by Denis Blackham (Skye Mastering). Ltd x 300 copies (one-time pressing) in a digipak with sleeve artwork by Robert Haigh and additional design by Saul Haigh. |
JARL - 'Synapse Variation Report CD (Zoharum) - £11.50
"Synapse Variation Report" contains five tracks with different variation or five reports with different names. The album has a connection to the two previous Jarl albums "Neurotransmitters Sphere Music" and recent album "Receptor Radiation"; in fact all three albums can be seen as a trilogy since they are similar both in theme and sound. In the nervous system, a synapse is a structure that allows a neuron (or nerve cell) to pass an electrical or chemical signal to another neuron or a target. As with the recent albums from Jarl (Eric Jarl of IRM, ex-Skin Area), the sound on the album is hypnotic quasi-rhythms, psychedelic, melodic, sequencer based ambient drone, pulsating, both repetitive and restrained which means intense sounds with different colour cords. Be prepared for around 60 minutes of Synapse Variation. Mastered by Peter Andersson (Raison D'Etre), Ltd x 300 copies in a 6-panel 'velvet' digipak with artwork by Karolina Urbaniak. |
EDGE OF DECAY - 'Polttomerkki' CD (999 Cuts) - £12
Edge Of Decay is the brainchild of Olli Tanskanen (Vigilantism).
"Polttomerkki" ('brand' or 'stigma' in English) is filled with heavy, mangled electronics.
Demented screeches, obscure electronics and sounds that pierce through your skull.
Real Harsh Noise chaos from the well-respected Finnish artist known for releases on Aussaat, Freak Animal, Phage Tapes, 4iB Records, and Nil By Mouth. "In 40 minutes, you will get stigmatized by Olli... a messed up mind of all kinds of intrusive noises. It's not the harsh noise with cutups and sudden movements; the music is more organised. When there is a certain movement, Olli provides time for that sound to evolve, interact with other sounds, and become part of a larger thing. Hidden layers, manipulated vocals, a massive FX pedal board? Sometimes like the origin of stigmas, they remain a mystery" (Vital Weekly). 6-panel digisleeve with original artwork by Mikko Polus (Cursed Tapes). |
DAWN & DUSK ENTWINED - 'Let Fall What Must Fall' CD (Dark Vinyl) - £12
The new studio album from Dawn & Dusk Entwined. Since their 1999 debut on World Serpent, the French act headed by David S. (also recording as Godwin Point) have become something of heroes for fans of dark folk and darkwave sounds After a break of several years, releasing "Crossed Paths" (2020) and "When I Die Burn Me In The Clothes Of My Youth" (2023), the third and final chapter of what has finally become a trilogy comes to a close. "Let Fall What Must Fall" once again mixes rhythmic, electronic and melodic coldwave tracks with more ambient pieces and touches of darkwave / minimal music, forming a veritable soundtrack for troubled times.
Guest vocals: Hélène Carpentier. Ltd x 400 copies in a 6 panel ecopak.

APEX PARASITE - 'Everybody Should Be Punished' CD (Dunkelheit Produktionen) - £11.50
The hammer of heavy Industrial PE returns! After a truly promising debut, Apex Parasite serves up another full-length offering in form of "Everybody Should Be Punished".
It is clear that the artist has made significant progress since his first audial torment onslaught. The atmosphere is rough and heavy; dark spheres haunt barren wastelands as swirls of feedback and synthlines melt into blackest vitriol. Samples and strong vocals narrate the distorted cacophony that always reeks of spite and dominance.
Although Apex Parasite is clearly old school Industrial Power Electronics, there is a fresh and innovative touch to the material. Vile PE in its truest form. Ltd x 200 hand-numbered copies in a jewelcase with booklet.
|
TZESNE - 'Receptores' CD (Sym / Drone Records) - £11.50
A TRIBUTE TO WHAT SHOULD NOT BE HEARD - the always inspiring Basque artist, a master of 'transconscious' drone music (linking the unknown with our minds), explores the mysteries of shortwave capturings, low fi hiss eruptions, unrecognizable noises of all kinds, a true "ether-therapy"! In the words of the author: "Receptores explores what remains hidden in static, white noise, and interference, using them as the core of its sonic approach. Drawing from lost signals and out-of-range transmission residues, the album reveals the subtle sonic textures that emerge as waves fade away. More than just an experiment, Receptores reclaims noise as the main subject, shaping an erratic and unpredictable soundscape. A work designed for those seeking textures beyond the conventional". Ltd x 250 copies in a 6-panel digisleeve.
