Z'EV - 'Schönste Muziek'
CD £9 Adv - OUT 15th MAY

Early hallucinatory ritual percussion works from the much-missed rhythmajik master Z'EV, with his 1983 Berlin Atonal performance as a bonus track (first time on any format since the original split LP with Psychic TV).
This legendary album by Industrial pioneer Z'EV was originally released in 1986 (LP, Dossier), now finally available with the state-of-the-art remastering it deserves.
Also included is the bonus 20 minute track 'Titan Night', recorded at Berlin Atonal in December 1983, now available here for the first time on any format since the original 1984 split LP with Psychic TV (who performed their iconic set at the same event). Z'EV performed on all-steel, custom-made percussion instruments, designed to activate the acoustics of the space.
"Each track finds Z'EV creating moody and atmospheric percussion based compositions. If you're familiar with Z'EV's work you'd say these tracks are a bit more primal, stripped back, and unmanipulated. Each track takes in a set pattern of percussive elements, which he investigates over the tracks length, and these move from forceful battering onto more moody drifts, and in between the two... a worthy work from this most respected and unequalled artist" (Musique Machine).
• CD in matt digipak, with all artwork remaining true to Z'EV's original concepts. |
VA - 'Salò or The 120 Days Of Sodom' -
CD £11 - OUT NOW! | T-Shirt £18 - OUT NOW! | LP BROWN - 29th MAY

The first time on any format for Pier Paolo Pasolini's controversial 1975 vision of the Marquis De Sade's 120 Days Of Sodom, featuring beautiful and discordant classical compositions, in stark contrast to the shocking and cruel events unfolding onscreen.
Three weeks before the scandalous release of "Salò, or The 120 Days Of Sodom", Pasolini was brutally murdered in Ostia, Italy. In the wake of the tragedy, legendary composer Ennio Morricone wrote 'Addio a Pier Paolo Pasolini' (Goodbye to Pier Paolo Pasolini) for the late filmmaker, included in the final edit.
Following the narrative of one of Pasolini's defining cinematic moments, the soundtrack opens with Ennio Morricone's "Son Tanto Triste", descends into the melancholic minor chords of Bach, Chopin, Orff, Puccini, and Graziosi, incorporates sinister renditions by the cast, and includes Morricone's own sombre tribute to the director.
Disgusted by the flood of crass sexploitation movies which filled the space opened up by his "Trilogy Of Life", Pasolini turned to the most nihilistic thinker in European history for what became his final film. His version of De Sade's 120 Days Of Sodom, amplified with motifs from Dante's Inferno, confronts the ultimate implications of fascism in a series of sexual and moral atrocities. "The only true anarchy is power".
The CD was released on Friday 13th February 2026, exactly 249 years since the Marquis de Sade was arrested and imprisoned in the dungeon of the Vincennes fortress for charges of "debauchery and immoderate libertinage" that scandalised his contemporaries.

DEREK JARMAN - 'Through The Billboard Promised Land Without Ever Stopping'
LP £23 OUT NOW!

Written in 1971 and read here by the author himself "Through the Billboard Promised Land Without Ever Stopping" is Derek Jarman's only known work of narrative fiction.
Providing a prelude to some of the imagery Derek Jarman would use later in his career, particularly the alchemical dreamscapes in the film "Blue", it is a surreal, hallucinatory fairytale, signposted with elements of modernity, that has much of the mythic and archetypal about it.
With tantalising autobiographical details and a panoply of chromatic landscapes and psychosexual symbols, this richly poetic story details a journey with no destination or purpose across a mythical America, undertaken by the young blind King Amethyst and his valet John.
Previously only ever released on cassette (2022, Prototype Publishing, Ltd 80), this vinyl edition features facsimile images of the story's handwritten drafts from Jarman's archive and photos by the artist Michael Ginsborg, a close friend of Jarman's throughout the period of the story's writing.
• Ltd x 500 copies on heavyweight 180gm black vinyl in gloss sleeve. |
ONE LEG ONE EYE - '...And Take The Black Worm With Me'
CD £11.50 - OUT NOW!

As a founding member of Dublin experimental folk group LANKUM, Ian Lynch explores submerged leylines of music and song. His solo project ONE LEG ONE EYE sees him taking a fresh approach to musical arrangement culminating in a sound that is more rooted in the raw aesthetics of second wave black metal than contemporary folk.
Over the course of a year, Ian Lynch enjoyed the freedom of experimenting and exploring different paths of sound design without expectation or pressure. Seeking out interesting settings to record music and gather field recordings, the essence of which have seeped into the spirit of the music, Lynch explores rediscovered spaces in Dublin and familiar interior spaces. He frequently visited the abandoned warehouse where his father worked and sang with his shruti box, contented in his solitude.
The result is a distinct and sometimes harrowing drone-folk atmosphere conjured throughout the album's lengthy and enveloping compositions, with an eerily beautiful, immersive sadness resonating throughout.
"An immersive world of created sounds and raw, resonant singing... dazzling sounds... gorgeousness and menace... lyrics carrying oceans of sadness" (5/5, The Guardian)
Features Ian Lynch on hurdy gurdy, uilleann pipes, synth, vocals, shruti box, concertina, guitar, found sounds, and tape, with guests: Laurie Sue Shanaman (Ails, Ludicra) on vocals, and Ruth Clinton (Landless, Poor Creature) on church organ.
Only available on a one-time, long sold out CD pressing in Ireland (Nyahh Records, 2022), we now present this incredible album with an exclusive bonus track 'Sympathetic Invertebrate Ritual', recorded especially for this edition.
• CD in matt-laminate digipak with updated artwork. • EUROPEAN TOUR with Godspeed You! Black Emperor.

COIL - 'Backwards' - 2LP 'FIRE RED' + CD (SOLD OUT)
2LP 'COLD WHITE' + CD £30 | 2LP BLACK + CD £28 - OUT NOW!
We mark a decade since we first released Coil's landmark album 'Backwards', with a special 10 year anniversary vinyl reissue. All editions come in a gatefold matt-laminate sleeve with silver detail.
ALL ORDERS DIRECT FROM THE COLD SPRING STORE / BANDCAMP INCLUDE:
THE FIRST EVER RELEASE OF THE FULL 'BACKWARDS DEMOS' (10-track CD), POSTER AND ARTCARD.
After the ground-breaking release of 1990's "Love's Secret Domain" album, Coil were not dormant; the main project was "Backwards", which was started in 1992, updated considerably between 1993 and 1995, and transferred in 1996 to New Orleans, where it was finished in the magic of the Nothing studios of Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails). The album saw the fruition of Jhonn Balance's recent vocal coaching, producing haunting, passionate vocals, while reaching new heights.
23 years after its initiation, these tracks have been beautifully preserved by Danny Hyde and are finally available in highest quality audio. Differing substantially from the later, remixed incarnation, "The New Backwards" (2008), "Backwards" contains the original versions of Coil's much-loved tracks; 'A Cold Cell' and 'Fire Of The Mind', which have appeared on various compilations over the years, and are now presented as originally intended.

ACHERONTAS - 'Vamachara' CD (Zazen Sounds) - £12
Reissue of the third opus by the Drakonian Black Metal coven Acherontas (originally released by Agonia Records, 2011), featuring an unreleased hymn recorded in 2012. Acherontas Manifestation in this recording: VP. Adept - 6 strings of infernal devastation, chants & spells of Draconian sorcery, Kadmos - Spells & Hermetic philosophy, AKHKHAR - 5 strings, Nexion of Disharmony, PARFAXITAS 450 - Swords of Shin upon Martian Towers, C. DOCRE - Skulls & Bones. "Vamachara stretches back to the buried past, regressing to a time when the female archetype was worshipped through the Cult of Vama. The lunar waters shall possess the soul essence with the blood current of Immortality, pushing the Adept towards self-excellence through the imbibition of the nectar of Salvation, the Amrita, through the ordeals of Black Al-Khemy. The vultures on infertile desert grounds cry LA ILAHA ILA ANA, and you shall kneel to drink from the cup of the fornications of the Priestess - either dust or Fire. Enter the Womb of the Black Moon and be reborn. Let the feathers of Abraxas reflect the function of Samsara". 8-panel digipak with new artwork layout by Vision Black. BASS COMMUNION & MODELBAU - 'Analysis Reveals Nothing Of Substance' CD (Lumberton Trading Company) - £20
When invited to appear at a Fourth Dimension/LTCo label event at Cafe OTO in May 2024, Steven Wilson (Bass Communion, Porcupine Tree) agreed on the condition that his long-time friend and fellow traveller of music's furthest reaches Frans de Waard (Modelbau, Freiband) could join him. When the pair met in London at Steven's studio to prepare for this extremely rare and decidedly low-key Bass Communion appearance, they not only rehearsed for the live set, but also naturally fell into spontaneously recording new material together. Some might say this was destined to happen given their shared history.
Using a variety of sound sources and alien landscape electronics, these compositions represent a perfect meeting of minds. "Analysis Reveals Nothing Of Substance" feels like the result of two people completely attuned to each other as the music unfolds throughout its 70+ minute duration. There's something deeply alchemical afoot as the lo-fi field hisses and creaks, electronic gestures and opalescent patterns emulsify into new forms. From the garbled chatter of birds and lost space probe bleeps of 'Murder of Automatons', to the dishevelled ambient glare of 'Iridescent Caducary of Scars', or the eerie tones, death rattle pulses and metallic clanging of 'Crepuscular Cicatrix', everything is drizzled in an oppressive sense of 21st century disquiet.
An album for those who crave a sense of depth and sophistication from exploratory electronic music. Ltd x 600 copies in a mini-LP gatefold sleeve with 24-page booklet and obi-strip. Strictly one per customer only! |
GEMUNU DE SILVA X GNOSTIC FRONT - 'Industry Standard' COLOURED LP (Tracks Investigations) - £24
"Covert field recordings from within the animal industry, transformed into a dark industrial soundwork - where hidden suffering, machinery, and silence collide. These sounds emerge from hidden places, presenting work that refuses to look away" (Robin Rimbaud - Scanner). "Industry Standard" is an industrial ambient record built from sound gathered during undercover investigations into animal industries. Rooted in experimental and musique concrète practices, the album reworks covert field recordings into dark, immersive compositions. Sounds from hidden places are shaped, layered and transformed, forming a stark industrial soundwork that refuses to look away. Gemunu de Silva is a pioneering investigative filmmaker whose covert work has fuelled global animal protection campaigns for more than three decades. As founder of Tracks Investigations, he has exposed hidden abuses in over 50 countries, confronting the industries that exploit animals for food, fashion, research, and entertainment. Gnostic Front is an experimental musician, filmmaker, activist, and former animal industry investigator. Since 2009, GF has been putting out records, touring, composing soundtracks, doing sound installations, and more, primarily under the name Garbageface. "As musically inventive, startling and captivating as it is disturbing... what you hear could almost be soothing ambient music if it weren't so utterly hellish... We're reminded at times of Hafler Trio and German musique concrète experimenters P16 D4 and, not least, Coil" (Nightshift). Warning: comes with 8-page 12" full-colour booklet with disturbing photography exposing animal cruelty throughout - visit the links for full description of the field recordings used. Available on 3 different colourways: Dust / Cream / Blood, Sky Blue / Cloud White, or Graphite Eco Mix. |
PLAMEN VECNOSTI - 'The Utilization' CD (Zazen Sounds) - £12
Serbia's Plamen Vecnosti came into being in year 2013 through Sifr Shraddha (Svepna / Utvar). Forged in the Fires of the Underworld, Plamen Vecnosti (The Flame of Eternity) represents a dark transmitter, black medium and the entity of the Otherness.
In order to capture the vibrations of its abyssal birthplace, handmade instruments where designed, crafted and utilized. Rattles, skin drums, flutes, pipes, percussions, strings and other tools in various shapes and sizes successfully serve the purpose of the transmission.
Drones and noises gathered during field recordings conducted on various liminal places are combined with proper ritualistic chants, vocals, whispers and hypnotic rhythms forming the sonic manifestations of PV.
"The Utilization is the Fifth Pillar, characterized by a hiddenness that reveals itself only through the superposition linking and holding together the essence of all the Four Pillars that rose before it. To utilize is to set the course of this nature towards the Otherness - vaguely comprehended as a place that is not, in a time that is not... a dance of an apparition devoid of a dancer; an actor-less theatre play in an empty auditorium; a film in a cinema for the sake of an absent audience. The question of the beginning of the dance, the play, the film, demands the Utilization of the Weapon. Thus, the action-less action gives birth to the very rise of the Fifth Pillar, uncovering the true horror that lies within the inherent inability to comprehend the No Subject. It is the undoable apprehension of the Otherness - the absolution devoid of the sum and the totality of the Total Subject - that is the Utilization". Gatefold digisleeve. Already sold out from the label! |
RAPOON - 'Fallen Gods' 2 x LP (Abstrakce Records / B.F.E. Records) - £30
"Fallen Gods" is the third studio album by Rapoon aka Robin Storey, formerly of :zoviet*france:. Originally released in 1994, it emerged amid a prolific early period for the Rapoon project. Building on the haunting industrial ethers of the debut album "Dream Circle" (1992) and the esoteric, rhythmic drone of "Raising Earthly Spirits" (1993), "Fallen Gods" consolidates many of the sounds and disciplines that had shaped Storey's work up to this point, while indicating a newfound, concerted focus on classical Indian instrumentation. A deeply arresting body of work that is arguably considered one of Storey's finest, weaving together indeterminate, sonorous currents of ambient and experimental electronics with magnetic, sprawling passages of acoustic instrumentation, creating a profound work of entrancing, ritualistic minimalism. The results represent a synthesis of myriad ideas, rooted in the duality between modernity and mysticism. Organic elements are subjected to inventive technological processes; primitivism made mechanical - with Tabla-led percussion, the remote tones of what sounds like the Bulbul tarang (Indian banjo), and repeating locked instrumental cycles, vast, atmospheric shadows and echoes are unfurled. Remastered by Colin Potter (Nurse With Wound / Monos). Ltd x 500 copies in a beautiful matt sleeve with gold print. Already sold out from the label! |
RESTIVE PLAGGONA - 'Short Story' LP (B.F.E. Records) - £22
The new album by Restive Plaggona features eight tracks of industrial techno beats and raw atmospheres. Over the course of 40 minutes the album takes us through different territories and landscapes of immense bass weight sound, sometimes dark and raw, sometimes droning and minimal, always energic.
Restive Plaggona is the music project of the Corfu-based artist Dimitris Doukas, known for his heavy and deep industrial soundscapes with subtle traces of darker forms of techno music. Dimitris is a particularly productive musician, having released more than a dozen records including his own imprint Several Minor Promises.
FFO: Ancient Methods, Vatican Shadow, Orphx to some Coil-esque atmospheres and Muslimgauze.
Ltd x 150 hand-numbered copies with artwork by Alex Marco. |
S.E.T.I. - 'Believe Night Imagination' CD (Power & Steel / Loki Foundation) - £11.50
The final album from S.E.T.I. - the deep space sound project of Andrew Lagowski. A scientist sits with his head in his hands, still listening for signals that he hopes will rescue the inhabitants of Earth. Why should the other planet people care about us? "Over 30 years ago, I began using the acronym S.E.T.I. as an alternative outlet for my musical projects. Eventually moving into ambient territory with "Knowledge", "The Geometry Of Night" and "Sleep Environments For Interplanetary Travel", amongst numerous titles. Back in 1992 I was happy that it stood for the "Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence", however it has become clear that, from my point of view at least, it now represents the "Self Extermination Of Terrestrial Inhabitants". These tracks, which were to be performed at 33YLOKI in Berlin, represent an honest and open-hearted state of affairs as I see them. This performance, not without flaws, was captured live to digital stereo as a way to communicate my presence with you, my friends, despite not being physically with you all" (Andrew Lagowski). Ltd x 200 copies in a 6-panel digisleeve. |
SPHÄRE SECHS - 'Nebular Resonance' CD (Loki Foundation) - £11.50
With their new album, Sphäre Sechs opens a vast and weightless sonic landscape - a place where deep space meets tranquil nature, and time seems to dissolve into pure atmosphere. Built on expansive ambient textures, subtle harmonic movements, and carefully sculpted spatial sound design, the album unfolds like a slow orbit around distant stars. A vast expanse stretches into the infinite, pulsing with a Void Pulse, a silent rhythm threading through the vacuum like a hidden heartbeat. At its centre lies the Silent Core, a collapsed sun suspended in eternal stillness, radiating absence rather than light, a focal point of quiet energy. Surrounding it, the Null Field extends outward, a region where planets drift without orbits and time seems to fold upon itself. Fragmented megastructures float within this void, remnants of a Fading Structure, their forms slowly eroding under the gentle pressure of cosmic winds. Beyond, interstellar clouds shimmer with Nebular Resonance, luminous dust vibrating with the memory of long-extinct stars. Light bends and fractures across the scene in a Photonic Drift, scattering into arcs that seem alive, illuminating the space with ephemeral motion. Emerging from these arcs is a Cold Memory, a trace of civilizations that once charted the skies, now vanished without signal. At the edge of the scene lies a Hyperborean planet, pale and distant, encased in eternal ice, orbiting nothing, a quiet sentinel anchoring the vast composition in frozen serenity. The cosmos here exists in weightless drift, where absence and memory coexist, and time itself seems to hover in eternal reverie. With this release, Sphäre Sechs deepens its exploration of sonic sound waves and spatial awareness, crafting an album that offers refuge from noise and acceleration. It is not merely heard - it is inhabited. Ltd x 300 copies in a 6-panel digipak. |
THO-SO-AA - 'Epoch Part One' CD (Loki Foundation) - £11.50
Originally released in 1996 (Art Konkret), the debut album by THO-SO-AA returns as a monolithic statement of deep and stoic ambient music. Drones bloom slowly with geological patience, framed by distant echoes and a faint, tape-like patina that gives the music an archaic, almost fossilized quality. Where contemporaneous ambient often leaned toward glacial panoramas of wind and water, "Epoch" feels more subterranean: mineral, patiently stratified, and ritualistic in its insistence on gravity and duration. It keeps the listener underground and inward while the palette of sounds is darker, thicker and more concentrated - closer to an archaic purity than a landscape portrait. The album stands up unusually well across decades. Its focus on texture, space and strict restraint makes it feel neither dated nor derivative; instead it reads like a precise study - a short manual on using silence and low end to summon presence. Thirty years after release, "Epoch" still matches the standards of deep ambient because its craft is functional: every sound serves the whole. In that sense the record belongs with the lineage of late-90's ambient that traded novelty for depth, and it rewards repeated, contemplative returns. 6-panel digisleeve. |
TUNGU & TABATA - 'Paranormal Awakening' CD (Fourth Dimension) - £12
Ukrainian sound artist Tungu (Sergiy Senchuk) has been well known for over two decades in the metal and hardcore music. For over ten years now, however, he has been responsible for producing electronic music that draws from improvisation, abstract sound and electroacoustic composition. "Paranormal Awakening" catches him collaborating with a vital mainstay of the Japanese underground, Tabata Mitsuru, who has long forged a solo path with experimental psychedelia in addition to his work in groups such as 20 Guilders, Acid Mothers Temple, Zeni Geva, Green Flames etc, as well as being a founding member of Boredoms.
Over the course of these tracks, serrated electronics spiral alongside decidedly old school synth churn, otherworldly sonic dimensions collapsing inwardly, angular jabs, melodic fragments pulled into new shapes and those all-consuming yet atmospheric blankets of sound perfect for bathing the outermost reaches of the mind in. Ltd x 200 copies in a digipak. |

BATANG FRISCO - 'Batang Frisco' LP (B.F.E. Records) - £22
Founded by Bill DiMichele, the lifespan of San Francisco based project Batang Frisco ('San Francisco Kids' in the Filipino dialect Tagalog) is inimitably distilled on this solitary self-titled record - an outlandish private press pearl of homespun minimal synth / New Wave music. Recorded over the course of 1985/6 and self-released in 1986, the one and only Batang Frisco LP was the product of an inconspicuous DIY existence spent in the margins of the Bay Area scene in the '80s. A miraculous curio of haywire electronics, crude drum machines, raucous 80s riffage, glistening soundscapes, irreverent, surrealistic lyricism and doctored samples, "Batang Frisco" has since gained well-merited cult recognition. A bizarre harmony of raw experimentation, bristling, sequenced rhythms, scuffed synth pop, dystopic industrial, austere synthesis, granulated cut-ups, and serene ambient. Remastered from the original analogue tapes. Ltd x 500 copies with booklet with liner notes, reviews, and photos. |
CIRCULAR - 'Float' CD (Loki Foundation) - £11.50
The music on Circular's album "Float" is marked by its meticulous attention to detail and a keen sense of restraint. It embraces a slow-paced and meditative approach to Dark (and Light) Ambient, allowing the listener to sink into the music and experience a sense of timelessness. The compositions often have a sense of fluidity, with sounds seamlessly blending and evolving, creating a sense of movement and transformation. The ability of Johannes Riedel to evoke emotions through the subtle manipulation of sound is a testament to his artistry, making this release a captivating and memorable addition to the sound cosmos of Circular. Ltd x 200 hand-numbered copies in a gatefold digisleeve. |
INADE - 'Aldebaran Revisited 2016' CD (Loki Foundation) - £11.50
This release is based on the Aldebaran 20th anniversary concert in Paris (9th September 2016). Recorded during the Autumn Equinox 2016, using the backing tapes of this event, this is a beautiful deep space soundtrack transferring the original theme into a live recording environment. The blackened Dark Ambient masterpiece "Aldebaran" was originally released on Cold Spring (CSR13CD) in 1996 and was Inade's debut album. This is a fresh adaptation of one of the greatest Dark Ambient albums of all time! 6-panel digisleeve. |
INADE - 'The Incarnation Of The Solar Architects' CD (Loki Foundation) - £11.50
Out of print for over a decade, Dark Ambient masters Inade present a brand new reissue of their 2009 album. There is a world that shadows our world; a world of mysterious design and unspoken secrets; of space that breathes and infinite echoes that never cease to cry. Mirrors that refract images into dark pools of cosmic nothingness. Inade explore these worlds on their latest masterpiece, in which sound is utilised in a transformative manner, not only to focus on that which lies beyond and that which has never been seen, but to embrace the Darkness and let it wash over one's soul. The mythology that Inade has created touches that place beyond forever, yet now, through the insistence of that which lurks in the margins, a metamorphosis has transpired, in which the cosmos of self has awakened. Inade provide the soundtrack... the frisson of unease is abundant, a churning, seething dread that veers into awe. It's up to the individual listener to listen intently, behind shuttered eyelids... to see and experience the true labyrinthine hierarchy of black splendor that awaits. 6-panel matt-laminate digisleeve with slightly modified artwork.

S.E.T.I. - 'Final Trajectory' CD (Power & Steel / Loki Foundation) - £11.50
Andrew Lagowski's S.E.T.I. begins this album as a colossal sound wall; like a massive electrical transformer, out of which analogue and digital synthesizer sounds and samples emerge, condense, and crossfade into a deep ambient symphony. The recordings and textures produced over 30 years from 1983-2013 converge in "Final Trajectory" to produce a collection of monolithic sounds. Invoking a sense of immensity with warm and dark atmospheric loops sounding distant and abandoned in a vast wilderness, battling against galactic winds. S.E.T.I. sets the listener down in this wilderness as an isolated observer; a witness to long intertwining drones, shattered dialogue and broken transmissions, with superior effects chains and a gentle rising dramaturgy forcing the complete album to an astonishing pure data vortex. Released in 6-panel digisleeve. |
S.E.T.I. - 'The Geometry Of Night' 2 x CD (Power & Steel / Loki Foundation) - £14
First released in 1996, "The Geometry of Night" is the second album of Andrew Lagowski's deep space sound project, which marked a reference point to his works under the name Lagowski. A classic album with laid back percussion, finely-tuned electronics, dark atmospheric synth waves and soundscapes. The album perfectly describes themes of night sky surveys, surveillance operations and radio telescope disinformation with the advice to keep a wary eye on the dark side of human nature. This is a remedy for the lonely nights staring at your social interface, the melancholy for lost opportunities and a hope for what lies beyond the nearest nebula. This newly re-mastered edition includes the sister album "Companion", with more than 60 minutes of new material. The concept involves companions, bound together by molecular chains, enveloped in dark matter and history, swirling endlessly within infinite illuminating spirals. Their BrEAUTalitY - answerable only to the laws of universal physics and spiritual cosmology. Moving extra terrestrial sound research to its deepest core! 6-panel digisleeve. |

ZOS KIA / COIL - 'Silence And Secrecy' CD (All Horned Animals) - £16
This compilation is a tribute to the work of John Gosling and to the earliest recordings by Coil.
Zos Kia's music is an essential insight and archival piece into the early work of the industrial scene and particularly of Coil in their formative stages. Their recordings are even darker and more industrial-rooted than much of the Coil material that followed. The music is primal, brutal and reveals the interests that surrounded Coil/Zos Kia and the early years of Thee Temple ov Psychic Youth (TOPY) / Psychic TV. JAPANESE IMPORT. ROD MODELL - 'Grotto Of The Sun' LP BLACK (13 / Silentes) - £24
ROD MODELL - 'Grotto Of The Sun' LP CLEAR (13 / Silentes) - £27
Winding through cavernous and dark meanders, amid gurgling water, rustling sounds, low and deep pulsations, incisive and impactful sound masses, floating waves, crystalline drips, sudden rays of light, electronic spirals, and unexpected openings onto almost soothing soundscapes and quiet environmental stasis, Rod Modell paints musical textures that are apparently abstract and contemplative, but in reality charged with pathos and drama, taking advantage of a spectacular, enveloping and surprising sound quality, in which every nuance and every small detail makes the listening experience even more intense and engaging. A new exciting masterpiece by the ambient maestro. "The presence of water is a constant companion here, the reassuring weighty and swaying textures of a warm current swirling over you - elsewhere the sounds of small spouts trickling down stone walls. Utter hypnotic bliss" (The Moon Hangs). CD in 6-panel digisleeve / Black vinyl in full-colour sleeve / Clear vinyl in full-colour sleeve with hand-numbered insert. VARIOUS ARTISTS - 'The Alien Territory Archives: A Collection Of Radical, Experimental, & Irrelevant Music From 1970s San Diego' 4 x CD Boxset (Nyahh Records) - £35
This is the story of a sleepy Navy town that became the unlikely gathering point for some of the most innovative, unclassifiable American artists of their time. The late '60s arrival of Harry Partch - hobo composer, iconoclast and inventor of instruments such as the Harmonic Canon and Quadrangularis Reversum - jump started a revolution that was as much social as it was musical, drawing on the occult, self-realization and radical political movements of '70s Southern California. The 2023 book, "Alien Territory: Radical, Experimental and Irrelevant Music in 1970s San Diego" (Bill Perrine), presents the story; in this collection are the sounds. Sonic Meditations, compositional linguistics, microtonality, invented instruments, cutting edge electronics, underwater synthesizers, Tibetan throat singing, environmental sound and pure noise were their tools. In an attempt to slightly smooth out the listener experience and add some structure on to a decade of far-reaching experimentation, each disc is devoted to a particular musical style, strategy or genre. These are useful but admittedly porous distinctions that the artists themselves may or may not recognise. All tracks (apart from 3) in this set are previously unreleased. Features: Diamanda Galás, Warren Burt With Pauline Oliveros + Reinhard Berg, Robert Turman, Harry Partch, David Dunn, Warren Burt, Ernie Morgan, Allen Strange, Citizen's Band, Joseph Julian, KIVA, Dary John Mizelle, Joji Yuasa, Alexina Louie, Kenneth Gaburo, Peter Gordon feat Kathy Acker, and Dary John Mizelle + David Gamper + Robert MacDougall + Frank McCarty. Comes in a clamshell boxset with each disc in its own card sleeve, and a booklet of photos and essays. |
WERTHAM / STROM.EC / JOSH LAY - 'St. Valentine's Day' LP (Cipher Productions) - £28
'St Valentine's Day' is a historical lodestar of unhinged and inexplicable violence, an artistic expression of the Prohibition-era streets of Chicago. Each artist was carefully selected with a view to intersecting their own stylistic and thematic interests with the subject matter of the release, harnessing the uniqueness of each while linking a shared stylistic energy. Threads of religious penance, unapologetic bloodshed, conspiratorial intrigue and political collapse all leech from the given theme, and each act delivers a harrowing set of power electronics compositions rich in detail, compositional depth, potency and crimson.
Mastered by Grant Richardson (Gnawed). Ltd x 200 copies with cover artwork by Scott Candey (Crionic Mind), and an individual insert for each artist: Italy's Wertham (Marco Deplano, also of Foresta Di Ferro, Caligula031, New Processean Order), Finland's STROM.ec (Jasse Tuukki of Cloama / Stromstad + Toni Myöhäne of Stromstad), and Josh Lay (of Glass Coffin, Hellwulv, Cadaver In Drag). Australian import. |
DEATHPILE / DISCORDANCE - '120 Days Of Sodom' CD (Old Europa Cafe) - £12
Reissue of the cult Industrial-Noise / Power-Electronic split album originally released in 1997 (OEC), now presented on CD for the first time. DEATHPILE is Jonathan Canady's most harsh project - cult US Power Electronics from the first era. DISCORDANCE is a side project of Gabriele Giuliani (the mind behind DEAD BODY LOVE) - best Italian Noise-Industrial. "120 Days of Sodom" is accompanied by the only previously-unreleased Deathpile track, which was recorded in 2000 during the Wh*rebutcher split CDR sessions. The "weak" middle section has been replaced with a recent analogue synth recording. Gabriele / Discordance has also contributed two excellent unreleased early Discordance compositions to round out this powerful and wide-ranging CD release. Meticulously remastered by Grant Richardson (Gnawed). Ltd x 300 copies in a digipak with new artwork. |

This CD encompasses tracks from the ultra-limited cassettes "Total Scum Materials", "Braybrook", "Pixie's Parasol", and a split with Y35.3. Mastered by Grant Richardson (Gnawed). Gatefold digisleeve. |
PRIMITIVE MOTION - 'Lost Frequencies' 2 x CD (Discreet Music) - £16
Primitive Motion is the duo of Australian musicians and visual artists Sandra Selig (Threads) & Leighton Craig (The Lost Domain). Their work builds through ambience and subtle electronics, highlighting relationships between natural and human-made forces through nuanced spatial-sonic interventions. The massive "Lost Frequencies" (130+ minutes) spans almost four years collected from the duo's ongoing improvisatory meetings at Selig's studio in Ferny Hills.
"Lost Frequencies" moves at its own pace - taken in its full breadth, it's like one long exhale. Within this, there's also a curious intimacy, a feeling that as listeners, we're eavesdropping on a process unfolding. It's a reminder that blueprints for buildings are often more evocative than the constructions themselves.
Through "Lost Frequencies", Primitive Motion uncover something that's simultaneously deeply archaic and vitally modern... the hum of reed organ and melodica in conjunction with Selig's levitating voice, are audio madeleines with both devotion to craft, and surety of focus. Ltd x 500 copies in a 6-panel double digipak with booklet. |
