A classic compilation that emanated out of Osaka, "Noise Forest" brings together a powerhouse of early 90's Japanese noise stalwarts: MERZBOW, C.C.C.C., SOLMANIA, DISLOCATION, MONDE BRUITS, MASONNA, VIOLENT ONSEN GEISHA, and INCAPACITANTS.

The ultimate Japanoise collection, originally released in 1992 on the cult Les Disques Du Soleil label / record store on CD-only, and now impossible to find. Remastered and presented here on deluxe 2LP in matt-laminate gatefold sleeve (first time on vinyl) and new CD edition, all with new artwork.

A forest isn't something normally associated with noise; it brings to mind silence and solitude. However, the ominous cover art here - and the artists within - bring to mind the notorious suicide forest Aokigahara. Despite all tracks falling into the Japanoise genre, the tracks are very diverse, yet every track is so distinct it could only be by that artist.

PITCHSHIFTER - Peel Sessions 1991-93

We proudly present the first ever release of PITCHSHIFTER's legendary BBC sessions for the late, great John Peel.

These ultra heavy industrial metal tracks were recorded over two sessions at the iconic Maida Vale studios: 28th April 1991 and 30th March 1993 and were sourced directly from the BBC Archives (with thanks), with careful remastering for CD and vinyl. The 1991 session was recorded during the same period as "Industrial" (Deaf Records / Peaceville), with the 1993 session recorded around the time of "Desensitized" (Earache), with the massive EP "Submit" in between.

Founded in Nottingham in 1989, PITCHSHIFTER's early style was heavy industrial metal, being cited as one of the originators of the genre along with Godflesh - a style which they termed "Death Industrial". These sessions and albums mark the end of that classic period, before a shift towards the more commercial, beat-driven Industrial style from the mid-90's onward that they are still known for.

BESTIA ASTRUM - 'Fury 161'

The debut album from Bestia Astrum (aka Abby Helasdottir / GYDJA) is a grim exploration of Fury 161, the prison planet from Alien³.

An industrial ambient travelogue of the spaces in the planet's dark and rusty facility, beginning on a wind-swept shore and ending in the eternal repose of stony sleep.

More than just an alternate soundtrack to a film, "Fury 161" takes cues from the long and troubled production of Alien³, incorporating themes from earlier concepts proposed during its development hell, including the treatment created by Vincent Ward, who imagined the movie's location as a wooden planet that was home to an order of space monks.

Motifs of eremitic religiosity permeate the album, as well as themes of Yeatsian apocalypticism, abject anatomy, and the intersection between the sacred and the profane, betwixt the beautiful and the grotesque.

THE SEA OF WIRES - 'The Sea Of Wires'

The Sea Of Wires were a very early '80s electronic duo hailing from the industrial wastelands of Coventry.

Followers of the German Electronic Scene of the time (Tangerine Dream, Ash Ra Tempel, Popol Vuh, Cluster etc), Chris Jones and Tony Murphy used elements of Kosmische Musik in their compositions, with a variety of warm synths, analogue effects, and layered experimentation.

This double-CD collects cassettes which appeared on their own Sea Of Wires label: "Individually Screened" (1980, then 1981 on the famous Flowmotion label); Chris Jones' "Diversions" (1981, featuring Murphy on synth); and "Beyond The Edge Of Tomorrow" (1982), representing the absolute peak of their sound.

These tracks appeared as a double LP on the illustrious Vinyl-on-Demand label back in 2014 as part of the massive 12LP boxset "80's Minimal Synth. Wave Vol.2", but are presented here on CD for the first time ever.

"A bubbly electronic miesterwerk from the electronic Dark Ages, those very early 1980s, just as synths started to get smaller and more affordable... They mostly relied on beat-free sequencer pulses with something of a Kraut influence, plus the occasional nod to the past glories of the Radiophonic Workshop... Full of classic warm synth settings, not unlike a solid state volcanic mud pool, pumping out bubbles of sweet sounding ear gases through the smooth hot mud" (Die Or DIY).

The 5th album from Birmingham-based industrial/doom metal band Khost sees the band forging new and at times nightmarish territories, alongside their signature walls of detuned guitar, corroded percussion and VHS atmospherics.

Inspiration for many of the tracks came from countless live shows and even soundcheck experiments in which extreme, harsh electronics evolved, as did punk/early industrial tempos, all of which were then fused into the DNA of "Many Things Afflict Us Few Things Console Us".

Khost remark: "We hoped that the experience would be something like venturing into an off-limits wing of some gallery after-hours, with each turn more disorientating than where you just were".

Collaborators include AXEBREAKER (aka Terence Hannum of Locrian), acclaimed cellist JO QUAIL, and Berlin-based sound designer MANUEL LIEBESKIND.

The CD and the vinyl are different beasts. The CD is reinforced with 7 extra tracks including ADRIAN STAINBURNER's incredible remix of 'Yellow Light' featuring STEPHEN MALLINDER (Cabaret Voltaire, Wrangler) on vocals, and BERENECES adding his signature deep, dark D&B sound to the track 'Death Threat'. BAND OF PAIN - 'Uncle God's Pag Pag Banquet' 2 x CD + Etched (Unplayable!) LP (Dirter) - £26

Three years in the making, the stunning new album from UK experimental / dark ambient act Band Of Pain (aka Steve Pittis of Splintered). It features contributions from Steven Stapleton and Andrew Liles from NURSE WITH WOUND, and Jean-Hervé Peron and Jeanne-Marie Varain from FAUST, as well as the usual suspects. It is packaged in a beautiful high-gloss laminated 12" gatefold sleeve with artwork that is unique to this release by Steven Stapleton (Babs Santini). It also features calligraphy by Geoff Cox, who is known for his previous work for Current 93 / NWW and, of course, the book "England's Hidden Reverse". The format is a 2CD set, housed in die-cut pockets inside the sleeve - one CD for side one and one for side two. This keeps with the intended LP concept, but has CD fidelity for the best audio quality for this type of music. In the rear opening is a vinyl LP - an unplayable 12" record with exclusive Steven Stapleton etchings. A truly incredible audio / visual feast. FABIO ORSI - 'Appunti Sonori Su Infinite Sequenze' 2 x CD (13 / Silentes) - £15.50

If during the early years of his long and prolific artistic activity, Fabio Orsi made extensive use of acoustic and concrete sound sources in his music, often painting very 'earthly' environmental realms, more recently he has definitively 'taken off', abandoning the earth to search for scenarios made of a purely synthetic matrix, building a myriad of dense electronic textures and pulsations, projected into the infinite and unexplored spaces of the universe. This double CD collects a series of "sonic notes" in the form of electronic sequences, alternating dynamic and evocative cosmic excursions with various tapestries of a quieter and more ambient nature, yet always deeply imbued with his incredibly warm electronic vein, which is strong enough to lead, even beyond the intrinsic enthralling and superb sound quality. An astonishing new double album that gives us the best of what the multifaceted Italian artist has been able to put together in this long interstellar journey, aboard his spaceship with its perpetually flashing multicoloured control panel. 6-panel digisleeve.

FILER COLEMAN - 'Below/Light' CD (13 / Silentes) - £12

A selection of ambient works by Jim Filer Coleman (COP SHOOT COP). "Below/Light" represents an antidote, or perhaps a counterpart, to the more aggressive music that he may be more known for such as Cop Shoot Cop and Human Impact. These tracks were recorded over a span of a few years, slowly evolving and seeking definition. Electrocoustic in nature, the approach was always exploratory and playful, searching for balance and connection with the natural world. Jim Coleman was an instrumental member of Cop Shoot Cop, playing keyboards and creating samples. Afterwards he worked in other groups with more electronics - like Baby Zizanie along with J.G. Thirlwell, and Here with Teho Teardo - and recorded a solo album as Phylr. He also released an ambient album entitled "Trees" under his own name. Additionally, Coleman has scored a good number of indie films, like 'Exposed' by Beth B and 'Stay Then Go' by Shelli Ainsworth, and TV series. He has also worked with directors such as Todd Phillips, Hal Hartley, Richard Kern and Danny Leitner. Ltd x 200 copies in a 6-panel digisleeve.

FONOGRAFIE PRAGMA - 'Archive 1' CD (St.An.Da / Silentes) - £12

On these early Pragma works, sound artist Maurizio Martinucci (aka TeZ) channels a primal industrial and electronic spirit, blending cosmic and concrete sonic elements to guide the listener through alien, pagan landscapes marked by entropic rhythms and magical atmospheres. Originally released 2016-17 as three 10" lathe-cut discs and digitally-only EPs, TeZ invited three guests to participate: Italian artist Ibtaba (Giancarlo Cotticelli); Swedish techno producer Varg; and finally SUMUS (formerly Psychick Warriors Of Gaia) who contribute their masterfully fragmented collages of acoustic wonders, adding a unique dimension to the work. 6-panel digisleeve.

FRANCESCO GIANNICO / ANACLETO VITOLO - 'There Is No Longer Any Turning Back' CD (13 / Silentes) - £12

Beguilingly ethereal, this is a collaborative ambient / experimental work from Francesco Giannico on piano and Anacleto Vitolo (aka AV-K, K.lust, X(i)NEON) on electronics and objects. "There Is No Longer Any Turning Back" is an excerpt from "The Aphorisms Of Zürau", a posthumous work by Franz Kafka. The work represents a path without obstacles, a descending abyss toward ourselves, toward the roughness of our deepest selves that we cannot explain and probably cannot confess. The individual track titles make up another excerpt by David Foster Wallace from an interview with David Lipsky: "The part of me that thought I was different or smarter or whatever almost killed me". 6-panel digisleeve with photography by Francesco Giannico.

GIANCARLO TONIUTTI / DEISON / MASSIMO TONIUTTI - 'Due Scritti Imperfetti' CD (13 / Silentes) - £12

A meticulous work by Italian electroacoustic artists Giancarlo Toniutti, Deison and Massimo Toniutti, recorded over two years in Udine. The music that emerged during this period represents different versions of ongoing experiments, a whole construction focused on details in a myriad of sound elements. Pâte de verres, invisible spikes and wires scrape, the blend grows and gets together tapping strings, with ribs and stretchers and blowing on the borders, oh excited foils, bows and hairs are skipping, slats and staves rebounds, self-built air streams, gliding tiny machines, buzz and dives, fast, faster in the space like tape and knot, stripes and stitches, and fine-tuning timbres, using chisel and timbre and detail and hundreds more modes and means, alloys and montgolfiers, groups or clusters slide away to the boundaries and details tell tales. GIGI MASIN & GIUSEPPE CAPRIOLI - 'Moltitudine In Labirinto' LP BLACK (13 / Silentes) - £23

The vinyl reissue of an historic four-handed work by Gigi Masin and Giuseppe Caprioli, originally released 2003 (Ants label). The concept of multitude, combined with the figure / symbol of the labyrinth, suggests orders of thought pertaining to the multiple states of being that inhabit the dark labyrinths of the soul and the hidden regions of the human psyche. Everything on "Moltitudine in labirinto" pushes towards a search for the key to understanding the ultimate meaning of an ordeal as enigmatic as it is powerful. A congerie of paramusical phenomena constantly evolving, which are the expression of an inner feeling strongly focused on itself, dissimulated in the plastic flow of sound events that disclose on the gravitational maps of low-frequency drones, changing waveforms and elliptical-circular loops warped with scientific skill in the electronic workshop employed for this purpose. A cinematic symphony in nine movements that direct the listener towards the frontiers of unexplored parallel worlds, ready to recreate the infinite maze of aural multitudes that materialise, dissolve and regenerate, impulse after impulse, throughout the work. QORAKITOBCHI - 'Out / In' LP (Green Lakes Records) - £23

Qorakitobchi is the experimental "Ethnoise" project of Anvar Kalandarov, one of the founders of the new Uzbek experimental scene. Based in the heart of Tashkent, Qorakitobchi started making noise back in the early 2000's, at the time of the birth of the musical underground. Sparking contemplation and inspiration, his music is not just about the sounds; it is a journey through time, transporting listeners to the world of Uzbekistan's occult and spiritual heritage, enriched with innovation. Kalandarov takes traditional Uzbek folk as the basis for his compositions, often recorded on a dictaphone while travelling around the country. Overheard sighs of dutar and gidzhak interspersed with the hum of dozens of voices at bazaars and festivities create a unique sound ornament to which Anvar gives an emotional noise colouring through frequency overloads, crackle and murmur of electronic devices. However, Qorakitobchi's music is not only about noise, it also features somnambulistic drones and desolate, hissing ambient, referring to the dialectics of the unconscious. SANNA / BONALDO / SCARIOT - 'Punti D'Incontro' CD (13 / Silentes) - £12

On "Punti d'Incontro" the sound is fragmented and broken up, just like splinters or bits of broken glass, into infinite pieces. Through the stages of duets and trios, Eugenio Sanna (Gamra), Lucio Bonaldo (L'imbroglio) and Michele Scariot (Nodolby) give life to buzzing, high-pitched sounds, like pinheads looking at and observing each other with caution, forming strange, gelatinous agglomerates; bewildered melodies that are swallowed up through a visionary plot and enter, swallowed up, into the gaps of an infinite space, in a relentless and pressing pace of great expressive power. 6-panel digisleeve with photography by Stefano Gentile.

SPHERIC - 'Poem Of The Atoms' CD (St.An.Da / Silentes) - £12

"Not only are the galaxies spinning, but also the stars within the galaxies, and the Earth is spinning, and the Earth around the sun and the moon around the Earth. Pretty much the whole universe is spinning". This statement by the astrophysicist Noam Libeskind together with the aphorism, attributed to Heraclitus, "Panta Rei" (everything flows) and especially the "Poem Of The Atoms" by the Sufi poet Rumi were the sources of inspiration for Spheric's new album. Jalal al-Din Rumi was also the founder in the 12th Century of the brotherhood of the "Whirling Dervishes" (Mevlevi). In their performances they rotate their bodies clockwise and anticlockwise in a repetitive manner, simulating the movement of the planets around the sun. But Rumi saw this movement everywhere and therefore also cast a poetic glance to the microcosm. In "Poem Of The Atoms" he speaks of dancing atoms. The idea that everything moves, that everything changes and rotates, in the macrocosm as well as in the microcosm, is the basis of this work. It fits perfectly with the music, built on superimpositions of harmonic, rhythmic and melodic patterns that rotate in time. Giving a continuity to Spheric's previous work "Music for Laboratories", this is a meeting point between science, philosophy and mysticism. 6-panel digisleeve with photography by Stefano Gentile.

Up To 23 is an electronic music duo formed by Marco Buffetti (Citrus Citrus) and Francesco Fincato. The "Hydor LP" is a sonic journey diving into the ever-changing nature of water. From vast seascapes to the depths of the underwater world, the album aims to capture the power and tranquility of this elemental force, shifting between dark tones, ethereal visions and cinematic moods. The last two tracks feature a collaboration with Enrico Coniglio (Aqua Dorsa, Lemures, Open To The Sea), whose guitar parts lay a foundation for fluid and hypnotic soundscapes. WUORNOSAILEEN BANDE - 'Do Not Expect Too Much From The End Of The World' CD (St.An.Da / Silentes) - £12

A ferocious and provocative work, merging industrial, power electronics and experimental sounds in a corrosive mixture that leaves little room for tranquility. The title, inspired by the film by Radu Jude, announces an extreme sonic journey, dominated by a persistent tension and social criticism, embodied by abrasive frequencies and noise distortions... a brutal and corrosive album, in which Wuornosaileen Bande push the limits of industrial and noise sound to extreme territories. The work challenges the listener with harsh and disturbing sounds, while addressing issues of violence, collective anxiety and social criticism. BAD SECTOR - 'CMASA' CD (Power & Steel / Loki Foundation) - £11.50

In 2005 Massimo Magrini (Olhon) was invited to provide a soundtrack for the M3M art exhibition in Pisa, Italy. The exhibition was based around images of the seaside and river estuary of Pisana area with CMASA airplane factory built there in it's centre. The marvelous seaside scenery mixed with vintage industrial locations, created an unexpected but amazing, nostalgic mood. To sculpture a soundtrack of this scenery Magrini also added treated piano, snippets of acoustic guitars, water sounds and metal samples. This may sound unusual for a BAD SECTOR release but all those new elements are perfectly blended into massive and ambient soundwaves, making CMASA probably the most emotional album of Massimo Magrini to date. All initial exhibition sounds where regenerated, remastered and re-assembled during 2007-2009. Digipak.

HOROLOGIUM - 'Du Grand Desir' CD (Ur Muzik) - £11

Recorded in 2011 and 2012 "Du Grand Désir" comes as no surprise to those who have experienced the intensity of Polish act Horologium's "Tellurian Anthems" album. This new full-length CD delivers eight tracks ranging from ritual ambient to martial anthems and ethnic dances. This solemn and yet strangely uplifting release, where the Orient meets the Occident, is perhaps one of the most varied works to date for Horologium. With additional help from the Chilean artist Der Arbeiter on two tracks, and beautiful artwork by Stefan Alt (Ant-Zen), this release is a must-have for all fans of the genre. INADE - 'Samadhi State' CD (Loki Foundation) - £11.50

This album from Dark Ambient titans Inade was originally released in a limited edition (888 copies) to accompany Inade's first performance in Japan, at the Spring Equinox concert in Tokyo 2006, and is now available outside of Japan for the first time. Collected studio works 2000-02, recorded during several sessions and rehearsals at the Light Channel. Remixed, re-constructed and re-edited in 2005-6. Second jewel case edition with laminated cover and revised artwork with deep red Japanese elements.

MEGAPTERA - 'Disease' CD (Ur Muzik) - £11

Megaptera have been a Death Industrial benchmark since their first recordings back in the early 1990s. The Swedish monster, led by mastermind Peter Nyström (Negru Voda), embodies the most disturbing and gruesome art there is. Alongside other legends, such as Archon Satani, In Slaughter Natives, or Atrax Morgue, the project has haunted our sheltered lives with their highly oppressive sound ever since. The album "Disease", originally released in 1996 by Art Konkret, is no exception to the rule. It is Death Industrial at its best - grim, terrifying and ghastly. The album is built like a psychological horror soundtrack, not as harsh as its predecessor - "Beyond The Shadow", but it is darker and will definitely crawl under the listener's skin. This is not a mere reissue, as it is completed with a brand new 10-minute-long track, which includes additional sound by John Stillings (Steel Hook Prostheses). Mastered by Henrik Nordvargr Björkk (MZ.412). Presented in a 6-panel digipak with artwork by Kellerman Design.

NEGRU PVLSE - 'Fervere' CD (Ur Muzik) - £11

An album that was long in the making. The creative minds of Mathias Josefson (Moljebka Pvlse) and Peter Nyström (Negru Voda, ex-Megaptera) join forces again to return 13 years after their first album "Madeira" (2002, Old Europa Cafe). "Fervere" in Latin stands for 'boil' or 'seethe' and these expressions accurately capture the one hour content of Negru Pvlse's sophomore release: dark, dense and often rhythmic soundwaves that Megaptera's mastermind is known for and the unique and more dreamy ambient parts by Mathias Josefson. The whole, however, presents itself as a distinct and independent work of a fully developed band, and not as a mere collaboration. "Fervere" is a complex yet highly addictive work. S.E.T.I. - 'Final Trajectory' CD (Power & Steel / Loki Foundation) - £11.50

Andrew Lagowski's S.E.T.I. begins this album as a colossal sound wall; like a massive electrical transformer, out of which analogue and digital synthesizer sounds and samples emerge, condense, and crossfade into a deep ambient symphony. The recordings and textures produced over 30 years from 1983-2013 converge in "Final Trajectory" to produce a collection of monolithic sounds. "Down But Defiant Yet" collects four lengthy cuts which catch Gary Mundy (Ramleh, Breathless, Broken Flag Records) furrowing his distinct and recognisable take on contemporary psychedelia with dystopian leanings. Each piece nods towards the fug generated by certain krautrock groups whilst retaining threads of those uncompromising power-noise surges he built his reputation on, this is music guaranteed to take you to new spaces before forcing you to nervously look over your shoulder. "Acceptance Is Not Respect" collects two lengthy pieces themselves broken down into seven parts often tempered to the point restraint assumes new, often disturbed (and disturbing) psychedelic or even filmic, properties, this music arrives like a spitting and foaming scream into the insanity of the void and the myriad challenges and questions it inexorably keeps hurling at us. This is uneasy listening sometimes rendered virtually elegiac by dint of a prowess rarely found in such realms. In Search Of Death continues their unusual countdown, travelling backwards in time through the project's recordings. First was "III" (Death Continues, 2015) with material from 2003, then "II" (Steinklang, 2022) with material from 2001-2, now followed by "I", which features early recordings from 1999-2000. In Search Of Death is all about old school industrial, here even more so. This isn't dark ambient, death industrial, noise or power electronics, though there are elements from all; this is Industrial! Powerful percussive elements, metallic clangs, subterranean rumblings, weird loops, ominous choirs, sweeping synthesizers, plenty of samples. N (115) / BU.D.D.A. - 'Ohne Titel' LP (Auf Abwegen) - £15

Side-long floating improvisations of drone guitars, weird freak out electronics and mysterious voices. Helmut Neidhardt (N), Chris Sigdell (b°tong), and Sascha Stadlmeier (Emerge) first met in 2020. They decided to record together and booked a studio in Dortmund. The recording session was spontaneous and somewhat chaotic. Thus it turned out, that only Helmut's tracks were really usable. Using some sections as a basis, Chris completely re-recorded his guitar, added a little bit of vocal here and there, and then sent a rough mix to Sascha, who in turn added violin and musique concrete. The final assembly was edited and mixed by Chris Sigdell. N and Bu.d.d.A. (Bund Des Dritten Auges) have since toured together, and at three dates even performed as a trio.
